This is the EXACT information I was searching for. So many of these LS7s end up with full heads/cam/intake packages when they go in for this fix (and I obviously see why), but I was looking for the cost if I wanted to simply remedy the issue with good components and not go for an all out 600 RWHP build. Additionally, Speed Inc is the most local to my state, so this video knocked it out of the park for me. Thank you so much!
07 Z06 bought it with 17000 miles back in 2009. Has been driven hard every day, I have broken transmission, torque tube, and differential and had several oil leaks and overheating. And at 70,000 miles later, I installed the edelbrock eforce supercharger, headers, and gears.. 122000 miles now, I have no valve issues yet. Same heads and cam. But every time i high rpm the z, the valve problem is in my mind. I hope Im not jinxing myself right now. I give thank my Lord for protecting my LS7 engine.
i wonder why they replaced those plug wires and msd thing? I would not jack with that. The reason is because I had a 97 LT1 camaro way back in 2005 and I am not sure which event happened first, but I had an optispark replaced and I also installed new plug wires that were Low impedance... You know so maybe I could get a bigger bang and more power right? Well, that assumption is not founded on MATH.. I just did it like everyone else does. Well, it turned out to be a huge mistake. I kept blowing the ignition coil and I could never figure out why. Well, later I pulled the diagrams for the ignition system and actually it is pretty straight forward. I remember thinking that it does not appear to be very complex. (I have an EE degree if that matters).. BUT, my guess is that, since I know a little bit about loading up a circuit and calculating resistance and all that. I figured that when I dropped the impedance of the wires by installing low impedance wires, that it cause a bigger voltage drop over the igntion coil and that little controller mounted on the coil (I forgot what it is called now) So, my point is.. Unless you have done the math, then I would not jack with the ignition system! That stuff is likely balanced and if you change anything, you could be causing problems. The same is true for Honda interior lighting and cabin control systems. where changing out light bulbs for LED's can pop a circuit! Been there doen that. It is because the circuit is balanced, restance wise. For the same reason some cars will rapid flash when you change out an exterior turn signal bulb for an LED. It throws off the resistance and it does weird things. So if I were you, I would put all the electronics back the way it came. After all, you were only suppose to fix the mechanical problem...Why did they change out the wires and that MSD? Maybe GM still had crap ignition systems? Funny I now how a 2005 Acura TL with 135k miles and I NEVER have a problem with the ignition system. I only replaced 1 injector once in 17 years! Honda has good electronics.
Great video! Ten years ago without much info about valve drop. My 2008 Z06 Ls7 engine block was cracked due to valve drop. GM did nothing to fix this problem. I loved my Zee but lost $30,000 dollars. This had a dramatic change on my life long love of motorsports. To this very day at 4000 rpm I can still hear my engine grinding itself into scrap, A total replacement car would not change my disappointment. I put up with a lot of crap working to earn that money but more important I lost my love of being a car guy.

I've had my 2007 Z06 for over 11 years and have studied the situation on line for nearly that long my favorite comment I ever read was "mine has 145,000 Mi on it I guess better check my clearances"
I used to believe it was a shop tactic to make money until my friend’s 07 Z06 with 20,000 miles dropped a valve and blew its LS7 while wide open at 140mph. GM techs verified the speed, but still warrantied the motor. It was just over $22,000 in parts and labor.
If you have ever so much as entertained the thought "should I go ahead and do a cam?" - the answer is 100%, yes, do it. It's worth doing while it's already apart... Even if it is only a slightly different from stock spec'd cam, it's the time to do it. (Remember: you don't have to go for a huge, choppy cam) Doing an aftermarket camshaft affords a good chance to upgrade to a more robust timing chain/sprocket set, as well, for extra "insurance"...or even to just replace yours with a 0 miles oem timing set, which is not much of an added expense, especially for how important of a component it is! So yeah, unless you're CERTAIN that you'll only want a factory ls7 cam - like...forever - then definitely take this opportunity to go ahead and do an aftermarket camshaft while you do the valve guide stuff. 👍🏻
I believe that the problem is real...i am just finishing my heads, cam, cai and exhaust on my 4500 mile 2012 Z06...i did the work and the package of parts cost 6200.00 so i feel for me that i intend to keep this car and tune it myself.
I've had my 2007 Z06 for over 11 years now I bought it as second owner...my total for the head repair to fix the dreaded valve issue and all other repair total have been $0.00

I know no engine is bulletproof, however, does doing the “bare minimum” fix the head/ valve issue for good? Looking at Z06’s but am leaning towards a grand sport since of the head issues.
They're really just bringing the heads back into spec, putting better exhaust valves in, usually a longer guide to better seat the valve and reduce play, and use material that create less friction.
Hello there. I realize this video is over a year old. I just recently stumbled upon it and I am a new sub. With that said, I too purchased an 09 Z06. Has 12K miles on it completely stock. I am shopping around in my area for the head fix. I am getting prices of doing it all (head fix, cam and exhaust headers. I was wondering how have things been since you did this to your car and did you ever end up getting a cam and/or exhaust? thanks!
Thanks for this video and content. I have a 2013 with 5300 miles. Bought it used and don’t know if mine was previously done or not. Does anyone know if they had straightened it out by the 2013 model year? If doing it, would most of you mod it while in there anyway? I would prefer to leave it stock, myself. Thanks in advance.
How does the car change once you install headers? I mean a cam is something that does really change the way your car drives, but never heard of headers making a diffrence exept for sound and power.
Never heard of headers making a difference except for power... Interesting statement. Anyway, yes, headers - in conjunction with an intake and a tune - can give significant gains in the neighborhood of 70 rwhp. If you ONLY bolt on some headers, it won't make much difference as it takes a tune to make the difference and it needs to be able to breathe with an intake
My 74k miles 07 Z06 just got all the full bolt on upgrade with bigger injectors, trunnion upgrade, new heads and cam...no issues with the valves or heads when they took off the old ones. Clutch is being upgraded to Stage 2 kevlar rated at 600 ftlb torque and getting new torque tube assembly....around 25k now total with all the parts and labor.
You were blessed. I’m scheduled to have basically the same thing done in the Baton Rouge area and my cost is $6,034 dollars. Car was sent to Lingenfelter 8 months after it was purchased new and they installed super charger, cam, headers and full exhaust. I can not phantom why they didn’t address the valve issue while this work was being done. My cost is a little higher because the supper charger has to be R&Rd. I hate to spend that much but If the engine were to get ruined I couldn’t afford to spend 20k plus right now to repair the engine. Great video.
How did it go, I’m afraid to drive mine until I get it fixed. Thing is I don’t know much about the engine parts so should I just take it to a shop and tell them I want the heads fixed ?
@@TexasFoldEm- I should be getting the car back in a week or two. I just dropped it off two days ago. Yes, for the bronze guides I would for sure find a reputable shop to do it properly. I was in the same boat, I didn't want to drive the car until this gets taken care of.
@@YuLost2X thanks for your reply. Are you getting aftermarket cylinder heads or are they just gonna send the GM heads to a machine shop and work them there. Also what were you quoted at for everything if I may ask ?
@@TexasFoldEm- just redoing the GM ones and yes, they send it to a machine shop and then re assemble etc. I initially got quoted 2500 but then because I already had a dual spring kit on they said if they can re use it will be right around 2100. Their prices are pretty fair I would.
Thank you for your video. I am currently looking at getting a C6 Z06 sometime next year, at first I was excited then heard everyone saying that they have very expensive problems. So I started thinking twice about it but after seeing your video then that's not bad at all. How are they holding up and what kind of warranty did you get with it?
Damn $750 for labor?? I can't find a shop here that'll do it for a penny under $2400 and that's on the low end. Where do you live cuz I'm about to drive there and get mine done!
Thank you for sharing. Ironically I have an 09 Atomic orange Z06 with about 24000 km on it. I don't drive it anymore, as I'm trying to find a shop in Western Canada I can trust to do a competent job, like yours. I'm also looking to keep mine stock. I truly appreciate it ehhh 🇨🇦 Have fun in your Z :-)

@@thorandmoljnir Imagine that!!!!. I just did :-) An old friend has a C6 Z06 that he races now, and has had plenty of engine work. But even better, one of their lead techs has same also, races it, while driving across US. He's met the developer of the LS7 at SEMA. Call Davenport Motorsports in Calgary and ask for Namala. He estimates they've done about 50 cars with now returns. Namala answered all my valve/guide ect questions in full confidence. It can happen at anytime really.. low middle or high mileage I went heads/cam for the power but mainly so I can drive the car without being scared of it blowing up but I made it to 70k miles without it breaking. If you’re scared of them dropping you gotta get it done as soon as you get the car then. I’ve done heads and cam in my garage on an LS before but I’d rather not do it again. I’m about 5.5 hours away from Schaumburg, I may consider getting the car to them somehow.
Seems like a solid shop, like I said a lot of local guys recommend them. Also from the research I’ve done online, $2200 seems more than fair comparatively. I wish I can tell you the quality of labor, but we shall see in due time. Let me know if you decide to take it there!
Just got an 18' Genesis G90 5.0 Ultimate (RWD) ... with a lot of persuasion from many Genesis reviews and testimonials, including yours, and I've only got one depressing question for you... does your Genesis feel slow and boring now that you are used to the Corvette? I was on the fence about buying something sportier than the G90 but I guess it's too late now. Haha... don't get me wrong. The Genesis is plenty fast. I'm just already growing accustomed to it. If you had it all to do over again, would you have gotten the Vette first? (Keep up the awesome content!)
Everything there is a reasonable cost. All you save is the shop labor of $750 Idk why they used copper plugs? They dont last al long as platinum. 25k miles for std copper. Really Gm should pay to have these heads fixed, but i guess like ford with 5.4L 3 valve engine they won't cover their own upgraded parts.
Hi, we plan on taking our 2013 LS7 Corvette to Speedinc for valve guide correction. After taking your car to Speedinc, were you happy with the service and results of the work? We saw your video regarding the LS7 valve issue and we would like your feedback. Thank you.
I think it was a good idea not doing all mods at once. I've learned from my tuner on my car to do mods one at a time because if something goes wrong, you only have to troubleshoot one thing and you know exactly what it is.
Your tuner is telling you that to keep milking your pockets. All mods at once. Is a one time fee. He keeps you come back as a steady income. A serious speed shop will fix it right the first time.
that is insanely cheap. I'm in Seattle and wouldn't be able to get any where near that price for labor. ended up pulling the heads myself and sending them down to AHP. would have pounced on$750 labor if the option existed where I live.
You’re welcome! But we have two more giveaways to do, both higher in value than the first. One of which is actually live right now! Ends October 31st, 2021.
Thanks for the video man, I just bought a 07 z with 32,000 miles so this is a video I’ve been looking for. We are from the same area lol so maybe we’ll run into each other some day
Personally I think it's totally ridiculous if you want to donate your money give it to some charity the only way I would do that my C6 Z06 is if I put ported heads and a slightly modified cam then fine not to just fix the problem that never existed in the first place because of a few people that had recalls
Truly expensive hobby, but it doesn’t make any sense to go through all of that labor and not upgrade to a better set of heads and cam, headers, and exhaust at least do the upgraded heads and camshaft. You could do the headers and exhaust yourself, but it is a very expensive hobby. and you missed a great opportunity at the end of the video to show the car laying down a patch.

Great video.
i'm dropping my Z off to them in three weeks for the same procedure. hopefully have a good experience as well
How did it go, I’m afraid to drive mine until I get it fixed.
Where’s this shop located?
Thank you for your video. I am currently looking at getting a C6 Z06 sometime next year, at first I was excited then heard everyone saying that they have very expensive problems. So I started thinking twice about it but after seeing your video then that's not bad at all.
How are they holding up and what kind of warranty did you get with it?
Hey I have a c6 z06 for sale if your in az
Does every c6 zo6 have these valve issues
Damn $750 for labor?? I can't find a shop here that'll do it for a penny under $2400 and that's on the low end. Where do you live cuz I'm about to drive there and get mine done!
$2250 is very low here similar work would cost $4000+
Thank you for sharing. Ironically I have an 09 Atomic orange Z06 with about 24000 km on it. I don't drive it anymore, as I'm trying to find a shop in Western Canada I can trust to do a competent job, like yours. I'm also looking to keep mine stock. I know our dollar is worth less than yours, but that seems super affordable and huge relief for potential engine failure and overhanging dread. Thank you for the breakdown of parts needed. I truly appreciate it ehhh 🇨🇦 Have fun in your Z :-)
Hey man I’m from Canada too how much did it cost you to fix the head?
@@60thirty22 Hello my fellow Canuck. Haven't found a shop yet I trust to do it yet. Might pull myself with a bud, and ship to Cali. ?
I have an 06 with 34000kms and I would like to find a good shop too. You find one? I'm in Vancouver and would like to know if you found a reputable place.
Mine Z06 is booked for end of April :-) P.S. my buds cars has plenty of hard track days with about 700 rear horse, and no issues. I'm looking for stock reliability, and feel confident this is THE fix. Best of luck Thor

Sometimes I actually love the internet!
I appreciate the information. I'll definitely have to check them out. Thanks so much for letting me know!
I am strongly considering getting a c6 zo6 but I am too afraid of the exhaust valves dropping, if anyone has some advice feel free to let me know, thanks!
It can happen at anytime really.. low middle or high mileage I went heads/cam for the power but mainly so I can drive the car without being scared of it blowing up but I made it to 70k miles without it breaking. If you’re scared of them dropping you gotta get it done as soon as you get the car then. If you don’t wanna pay for that (cuz it IS expensive asf) then just don’t get one I still think my 2013 5oh was the best car I’ve ever owned, there’s a bunch of other great options
@@jgood5048 How must wear was found and how did look when removed?
@@jgood5048you said yours made it to 70k without breaking. What broke at 70k?
Great video, very informative. I can’t thank you enough for the name of the shop because I’ve been having a hard time finding a good shop locally for me and they’re only about two hours away so that’s awesome. I have a 23,000 mile 07 Z06 and I’ve been afraid to push it. I would like this peace of mind as well so I plan on doing this in the spring.
Beautiful Car! MGW is a must and for me I installed curb alert and backup camera...Oh, and Catch Can...
Corvette content especially C6 will bring you views!
Omg just get new heads
My oil is getting consumed and burnt which leaves my back bumper black with exhaust residue after 4 ripps around the neighborhood ...does that make my car one of these bad head cars?
@@jamesw.6931 I did the wiggle test on the valves and they are moving.. could you please text me everything I need to supply the machine shop with to fix the heads..I would appreciate it and the cost of these parts you list for me that I need...thnx again
@@jamesw.6931 I Heard that if you submit your Bill for the repair to GM that they would pay you back..or was that b.s.?.. bastards would have recalled these vetts in a minute if it was a safety issue.thanx for your help brother
The labor $750 for all of that?
33k on my Z, I’ve never had it above 6000 for this reason. Bought with 32k and no knowledge of anything being done. Living in a small town, I don’t have anyone to take it to.
Will the RPM act inhibit people to be able to get this fix in the future?
Gooood question 🤷♂️ hopefully someone can chime in? I’m interested as well
The spark plugs were cheap because they were copper plugs. They wear faster so Id consider changing them after 20k miles. Iridium plugs last longer.
Duly noted thanks for the tip!
You got a cheap deal on the msd wires. I just bought a set and it was 130 bucks.
Getting a 2007 Z06 today 30,000 miles i need this done too. Anyone know a reputable shop near me Allentown PA?
Rspec 5.0 ???
Thank you very much for input on this highly debated issue.
Two completely different cars, but no the Genesis doesn’t feel boring now, slower yes for sure no debating. The Genesis is still my favorite 😬😬
That's the cost of getting into big horsepower I guess. Thanks for prepping me so I don't have a heart attack at a shop
Everything there is a reasonable cost. All you save is the shop labor of $750
Idk why they used copper plugs? They dont last al long as platinum. 25k miles for std copper.
Really Gm should pay to have these heads fixed, but i guess like ford with 5.4L 3 valve engine they won't cover their own upgraded parts.
Labor ain't cheap..but with what the shop did and replaced, a good price and insurance policy on many miles of happy driving!
Small price to pay to just enjoy and not worry!
Wanna get my heads done for sure, but at 62k with no issues. Fingers always crossed lmfao.
Great info!!! Think I'll get my heads done too!
🤣🤣🤪 silly goose. I’m sure the Kona heads are fine.
a year later and there is still not enough LS7 content and information
Hi, we plan on taking our 2013 LS7 Corvette to Speedinc for valve guide correction. After taking your car to Speedinc, were you happy with the service and results of the work? We saw your video regarding the LS7 valve issue and we would like your feedback. Thank you.
Have you encountered any issues since the repair work?
I think it was a good idea not doing all mods at once. I've learned from my tuner on my car to do mods one at a time because if something goes wrong, you only have to troubleshoot one thing and you know exactly what it is.
Your tuner is telling you that to keep milking your pockets. All mods at once. Is a one time fee. He keeps you come back as a steady income. A serious speed shop will fix it right the first time.
Yea thats a pretty deceiving shop. I would not go to him lol
So keep paying him a retune
Great video very to the facts and where I have a LS7 it’s where I’m heading next spring
Definitely worth it for the peace of mind!
Thanks for the tips man , def something ive been considering once I find the right c6 z06
Good luck with your search friend! The car market right now is absurd but I’m sure you’ll find a good one given some patience!
that is insanely cheap. I'm in Seattle and wouldn't be able to get any where near that price for labor. ended up pulling the heads myself and sending them down to AHP. would have pounced on$750 labor if the option existed where I live.
Tom wong at wongs performance in vancouver wa is your best bet. He has done many
Damn your z06 only has 15k miles!
Yessirrr
Heads Cam E85 Aux FP NW103
LT X Monster Clutch & tires
Just do it.
FYI 2011 to 2013 C6 Z06 dont have the head issues..
False. You have done 0 research. Z28s have head issues too.
Thank you for this. Missed out on that giveaway but I needed this information thank you
You’re welcome! But we have two more giveaways to do, both higher in value than the first. One of which is actually live right now! Ends October 31st, 2021.
Thanks for the video man, I just bought a 07 z with 32,000 miles so this is a video I’ve been looking for. We are from the same area lol so maybe we’ll run into each other some day
I'm a chicken also I have a removed LS-7 and I'm terribly worried about hurting it. I want to place it into my 57 Chevrolet truck. Today.
Salamat
Great price!! Peterbilt ask me 2800 to install chicken lights on my 2022 Peterbilt. Lol
Definitely a good price and for the peace of mind, worth it!
Agreed!
Get a grandsport ls3 and mod it, way to many z06s blow up, if your rich and dont care go for it if , you want a realiable corvett dont get a ls7
boy this guy can talk whewwww.
Super Cheap! Hope it runs well now.....
What shop did you use? Can you provide contact info?
Personally I think it's totally ridiculous if you want to donate your money give it to some charity the only way I would do that my C6 Z06 is if I put ported heads and a slightly modified cam then fine not to just fix the problem that never existed in the first place because of a few people that had recalls
If denial works for you, run with it!
You got a awesome deal 👌 😎
not bad at all
Love the vids
Better get them copper core plugs out of that car and get some iridium plugs.
Cheap insurance
never get it at price again
sweet
🤘🤘
Ouch
Wow this is cheap. I am paying almost $4k for mine.
didnt have to do that with the genny
That’s cheap shop here quote me $5k🥺
It shouldn’t ever cost more than $2k-$3k
Truly expensive hobby, but it doesn’t make any sense to go through all of that labor and not upgrade to a better set of heads and cam, headers, and exhaust at least do the upgraded heads and camshaft. You could do the headers and exhaust yourself, but it is a very expensive hobby. and you missed a great opportunity at the end of the video to show the car laying down a patch.
