Before and After: The Blue Ridge/Sheraton Hotel became Apartments and they did THIS to the elevators

- (December 2019. June 2024) This property has since been converted to apartments and they put in DESTINATION DISPATCH! Yes even on the HYDRAULIC elevators here! Normally I don't like these vintage elevators getting modernized however these are cool! Overkill for an apartment building, yes. Awesome YES!

Can't believe Thyssenkrupp Impulse is an era that is a model that is starting to get replaced with modernizations. Where has time gone? Lol! Thyssenkrupp did an excellent job with the modernizations for both sets of elevators. That is super cool seeing a destination dispatch set up for the hydraulic elevators despite it being overkill. I like how Thyssenkrupp fixed the awkward setup on the bottom floor and made it into a setup that differentiates where you end up at. And of course, only one dispatch panel calls the elevator closest to it (minus the upper floors). The wheelchair lift was definitely needed. Lol. This is really cool! I like the button sound on the dispatch panels for the hydraulic elevators too.
Time definitely flies!
I feel old knowing they’re modernizing ThyssenKrupp Auroras
Destination Dispatch is a bit overkill for these former Hydraulic Dovers, but notheless, still cool.
Just for this building a whole. As apartments One elevator in each tower would have been sufficient. They definitely went all out on this mod!
@@DieselDucy epic
i mean i feel that destination dispatch was necessary for the hydros just for the reason of LL and L being on different floors; you wouldn't want to have to get off the other elevator just to go up to L or vice versa, which is probably the only reason why they did destination dispatch in that bay to reduce travel time
Yes. For the accessibility was needed
Yeah i agree, certainly overkill for what this is. On the plus side, they fixed the issue with the half floor on the mod by putting them as separate floors, and adding wheelchair lift.
yes. The way they did it works well.
RIP Dover Impulse! I would’ve loved to see those before they were modded but I gotta admit TKE did a good job on the mod and that epic Motor too!
This is actually a very good mod. Overkill yes. Awesome YES!
nominating this for "mod of the year"
It really is an awesome mod!
@@DieselDucyhi
Wow I remember those elevators at that hotel it’s been a long time since I seen it, but I heard it’s now an apartment building
It is
@@DieselDucy I have seen your videos on those by the way feeling bad that they changed it into an apartment now I don’t think I’m gonna be possible going there 😢😢
It is a pretty nice looking apartment complex, and those Are pretty nice looking Elevators.
very nice but like almost all apartments WAY over priced.
I stayed here many years ago before i started filming, this is a shame the hotel closed, but at least you got these videos for memories! 👍
I don't know why the hotel closed. It was a prime location. The apartments seem to be pretty full as it was difficult to find parking.
@@DieselDucySame. I remember the hotel was pretty nice and up and coming.
Cool video. I love tnose high hydraulic elevators. Epic motor, and the beeper sounds way way better than the ones in the traction elevators.
I agree!
The original Dovers will be missed but I’m happy that they are still here in a new form! At the same time I’m happy they saved this building for a new purpose. The big issue I have with this is still the situation on the ground floor where the hydros are on different levels, so if you need to access the floor without the stairs, you’re going to have to play with the system. Still a great mod, and this is definitely the first time I saw Destination Dispatch hydros.
It was epic
With the Hydros, TK better had to have had a DAMN GOOD REASON to NOT use Dry Power, considering the height
I know exactly what power unit the hydros use I've seen a machine with the same motor. Weird how they didn't go with dry Powered considering they still make them.
Hot take:The hydraulics needed destination dispatch because of the layout on the lobby. These are Roanoke’s first destination dispatch elevators if I’m not mistaken
Wells fargo was first. For compliance, Destination dispatch was the only way to go with the strange layout of the lobby.
Nice Modernization Elevators!
Ok
Nice
Thanks!
I find destination dispatch interesting because only if you have fire service activated you could open the inside cabinet and select a floor from there
Correct
Nice elevators! R.I.P Dover Impulse!
They had epic motors.
@@DieselDucy
they should've just added the wheelchair elevator a long time ago!
And why not move the first elevator door and door frame down to the elevator next to it
That would make a lot more sense!
In my opinion!
8:43 amazing startup and motor too
It is!
Wow still nice elevators. i wish they keep the old cab
yeah but they were very 1980s looking and this place is trying to be one of those "trendy new places"
i miss the dover impulse, but they made this much better with the new building mesh and the new elevator mesh. Now, these elevators are dispatchable.
These are great.
@@DieselDucyyes
To see these as destination dispatch feels unreal for some reason.
I was like "WHY"?
@@DieselDucy Yeah; you'll need even more floors to have destination dispatch.
I remember this place closed a few years ago when did they change it to apartments
It recently opened, maybe a year or so ago?
the modernized hydros do have a very nice motor
They do.
9:56 the destination dispatch fixed one tiny issue the dovers had, other than that, it’s a little more than I would’ve expected
Yes. Exactly. Now people coming down if handicapped can get the elevator that reaches the ground floor without having to play the game of "get the right elevator"
Did they convert the tractions from overhead to MRL? They kind of sound like they’re MRL
I am not sure. Would have to get in the motor room
How did you get access to this area as this is an apartment building now?
You either have to know somebody in the building (one of my former co workers lives here) or you have to sneak in.
We’re going to definitely miss the Dover impulse elevators! At the same time, they were aging which makes sense why they chose to modernize them!
Yes it’s sad that vintage elevators do have to go. Imagine if they kept the original dry power motors!
Glad it’s hydro, wouldn’t that be such a waste if they completely replaced the motor from hydro to traction!? (Referring to the Dover Impulse elevators) That’s more money + taxes down the drain right there that didn’t have to necessarily be spent in my opinion.
It was a crazy mod
The layout of the two hydraulic elevators has had me puzzled for years. Why is the one up the steps?
Somebody in the 1980s had a very bright idea. Obviously before the ADA.
@@DieselDucy That makes sense.
@DieselDucy
that's still weird and just doesn't make sense how someone in the 1980s came up with that idea!
The Hydraulics are talking now, but not the Dover Tractions!
yep. a good mod though.
Yes, I also think why they didn't put a voice on the Dover Traction ones, this comment is from Aadya's friends, but just typign in her account as we are all seeign this video together! Just saw the video!
Ok
@@DieselDucy Did you see my friends comment what it was about?
I didn’t know that the elevators are getting modded!!!!
Yep. Apartments now
Although they did get modernized with destination dispatch, TKE still did a great job.
This is a GREAT mod!
Hydraulic and destination dispatch! That is no something you see in the same sentence!
Really cool but they should have redone the staircase of the hydro one's lobby as they still are very uneven.
This was definitely something awesome to see!
We must really be to a point where Destination Dispatch is comparatively priced to a conventional system. I wonder what system this is.
Edit oh, it's ThyssenKrupp. I wonder if the beep in the first elevators is new, and they're discontinuing the 'grocery store beep'.
The signal components on this mod were very glitchy. I am sure they paid top dollar for this elevator so they can say they have smart elevators and charge way too much rent to pay for them.
What happened to the old wheelchair lift?
Gone
yk what, tke impulse is not bad and tke mods on dover traditional aren't bad either, mainly because on the impulses all they do is change dover sticker to tke and keep original cop. and traditional same thing. ALSO I LOVE THOSE AGILE
These were a great mod
I Just Love The New One Better :)
I like the destination dispatch.
Was it necessary for this place to get a destination dispatch system? Not really….
Is it still amazing though? Yes!
Would I like to live in this apartment complex? With a rate of $1400 a MONTH, I’ll give it a hard pass, and find a much cheaper place!
Yes. It is a CRAZY but AWESOME mod.
So true Jay!
It’s unfortunate to see the cursed dovers gone
yeah those hydros were epic.
@@DieselDucy absolutely, and impulses aren’t as boring as modern generic
There’s a few hotels that have become apartments as well in my area 😢
It happens alot lately.
Before mod
Camera: SONY HDR-PJ760V
Mic: Built in
Yep. Maybe
I personally think these didn't need to be modernized. They were in mint condition for their age. Please tell me that you got the parts.
I did not. I can see why they got modded though. They TOTALLY Gutted these buildings when they converted them into apartment houses though.
I honestly thought this place was gonna perminently close but why would they, They put so much money into making it look nice and it would be ashame if that was gonna be the case
It is apartments now
I think it's Dover Mod By ThyssenKrupp Elevator
Yes
Is that a LED Fire alarm
Not sure
These got modernized. No wonder no more Dover impulse they were the greatest fixtures ever. I do r like how they are made now the older ones were much better. At least they where a great ride and a retake
This was a great mod.
a.k.a. the TJ Elevator Fan dedicated elevators. Now all gone.
He rode them.
@@DieselDucy don't forget the plaque which said "This elevator is dedicated to TJ Elevator Fan"
Hi Dieselducy I don’t know if you remember me or not but I am a huge fan of your channel. I’ve been watching you for a long time ever since 2015 when I was a kid I would love to meet up with you one day or maybe just talk to you privately is there anyway I could contact you like through email phone call or text? Whatever is fine with me, but you are huge inspiration for me.
Sure you can send me an email or message me on my dieselducy facebook profile. My email is on my website.
The former Dover Impulse elevators were so cool, and that video from 2009 was one of the first elevator videos I ever watched. What a waste of money to install destination dispatch for only 7 floors, particularly the 2 Dover Impulses. What if you cannot climb the stairs on ground floor and the system keeps calling the left elevator? And then you waste 10 min climbing up with that useless wheelchair lift. I guess most people won’t think about pressing that tiny handicap button.
That split level ground floor has designations L and LL. As DieselDucy stated in the video, pressing L on the call station calls the left elevator, and pressing LL calls the right elevator. This would be a reason to have destination dispatch on low rise elevators, since you can have both elevators on the same controller. The controller can be programmed to send a specific elevator if certain floor calls are registered at the call station.
The DD actually solved that problem. The split lobby has L and LL for the elevators
Oh I didn’t notice that, maybe I should have watched the video till the end 🤦♂️
That’s indeed a smart idea to separate the lobby into L and LL levels.
They really had to go the expensive path, did they?
They totally did lol.
Maybe you can do handicap mode😊
I did
Ocean Enclave vibes...
Awesome!
before after
Yep
Yeah this is former blue ridge hotel
Correct :) Now it is apartments. One of my former co workers lives here.
@@DieselDucy oh cool
At least they converted it instead of demolishing it
The old Dover elevators will always be in our memories
7:51: this handicap mode is louder than the wheelchair elevator
me: it can't be that bad...
7:57: *pREss bUTtoN WHen yOu hEAr deSIReD FloOR*
It was LOUD
❤❤❤❤
They are cool!
DD is definitely overkill for the hydros
Totally but it fixes the ADA issue as well as the wheelchair elevator.
Looks like they got rid of the basement.
it is key access behind the panel
@@DieselDucyhow do you get in the basement plus what’s down there now and why destination dispatch won’t let you go to the basement
Thyssenkrupp elevator no Dover buzz indicator works modded by destination dispatch door close doesn’t work 2nd set of elevator elevator talks door close doesn’t work
Ok
This is insane‼️ I’ve NEVER seen a hydraulic destination dispatch system before‼️ Very sick stuff‼️ This is a great mod, and actually the first time I’ve seen TK use innovation prestige on a mod before. I filmed one of these last year in Atlanta, but with the Atoll lineup that was an install instead of a mod. Video is right here: ua-cam.com/video/cpcnfEOMnNY/v-deo.htmlsi=oy3QR_AV4Ad6C3OM
It was cool
@@DieselDucy yes. It surely was.
Uh oh since Elevatours is all about being healthy we have to walk the steps here we never walked the steps here
This was an apartment building. My goal. Get in, get the video, get the heck out.
I mean, I love destination dispatch, but why put it if there are multiple elevators with only 8 floors? First look of the new Hydraulic elevators just tells me there is gonna be a lot of problems on the first floor
It was a crazy mod.
I think is TKE mod
It is definitely TKE.
@@DieselDucy is defintely TKE mod
@@bsvenadam it looks like the cathedral of learning elevator mod those are otis the beep is generic
@@user-sn1qx1tm4l yep it looks the cathedral of learning
8:49 i told you is TKE mod
Thyssenkrupp
Yep
I don't like these new elevators with no buttons inside. Why does everything have to be on a screen now? Seems over engineered. The old dovers were better. The only thing i like is the hydraulic motors.
This is a good mod. Overkill for this building but still really good.
@@DieselDucy It's just not me.
Such a downgrade
For people that love vintage elevators, yes.
I am saddened by it as well. The cabs are not that pretty, and that beeping buzzer as it hits the floors sunds like cheap junk. It has a tinny echoing sound. The high hydraulic elevators are way way much better. Thumbs up for those.
