Before-During-After Modernization: 1983 Dover Hydraulic Elevator at Sugar Land Medical Building

- This is my VERY FIRST time I had ever done this! A before-during-after modernization video. Anyways, here is this classic Dover Traditional elevator in a local medical building in my area that I had so many memories riding ever since I was a very little kid when I used to come here for doctor's appointment. I grew up riding this beauty! I want to say a HUGE THANKS to Oracle Elevator for saving me the parts!!!! :D With that said, I hope you enjoy this video! :D

I feel you Jim. The ones that we have as architects are really kids rather than real ones that grew up in the era when we had truly reliable elevators. When I was a kid, the vintage gated Rotary Dover in Kirkwood was what I rode, and the building at 777 South New Ballas Road had Long elevators with white buttons. I wish I was a lead elevator tech that would travel the country. Then if I had that job, I would be traveling the country showing these people how to modernize these elevators right.
This makes me want to cry :-(
Looks like MAD had a little fun with these.
Those hall lanterns are very rare! Glad you saved them!
That is so sad to see them modernize these cool Dover elevators. Makes me want to cry.
That's the sound when the elevators in my school! I love Dovers, Schindler, and mostly KONE, not forgetting hydraulic elevators.
ElevatorFan1939 Meiying Longoria Jo Go Go Media Markt they have Beatiful hydraulics
Almost 100 views! I love your knowledge on elevators! Thanks for being my inspiration!
They done elevator 1981 Washington look clean and fan wow elevator they are fix 1983
well at least you got the dover parts that will help you remember this elevator
Its a good place for DieselDucy's elevator museum.
RIP 1981 Westinghouse and 1983 Dover
:( Your childhood elevator is now ruined. R.I.P Dover hydraulic elevator at Sugar Land Medical Building 1983 - 2018
Did they modernize them for a reason?
Watching this nearly 2 years later so bring a tear to my eye. On the brightside, I kinda like the new mod, especially how the arrow on the hallway lantern changes color.
UP = Green
DN = Red
Im watching 3 years after (in 2021)
@@mantinecraft7055 me 6 years
This was uploaded on my birthday.
It was premiered on your birthday
My childhood elevator was the great Montgomery kone glass elevator in galleria mall in Ft Lauderdale
Sadly they modernized it to an MEI in January 2019. also that makes me want to cry why did they have to modernize that beautiful old dover elevator
before it was an beatiful elevator..
So sad. I love the Dover buttons. It will never be missed. RIP.
Farewell Dover 1980s, you will be remembered by people who lived with you.
Goodbye 😢😢😢😢
I love the old dover
21:45
Memco Panachrome on the other one. They should put it on the other one. Epic motor as well.
So Sad Because The Elevator Is Now Gone
FYI at 5:09 the elevator did a big jolt like that when it was a westinghouse
Yeah, but the modernized one jolted a lot harder than the original.
I Had A Childhood Elevator I’d Ride All The Time. It Was The Westinghouse Elevators At Hawthorn Mall In Vernon Hills IL. Sadly They Got Modernized By Schindler HXPRESS In 2020
Wow this elevator is legend
Nice.
I like the SmartRise buttons :D
The buttons are DMG BS third party buttons
COOL 😎
Its 1 year ago still not 1k likes what a shame
These were modded almost 2 years ago now.
Sad Because That Elevator Is Been Gone
10:47 this further proves my point that old stuff is better and more reliable
i found one with orginal fixtures
lord and Taylor had an EPIC Westinghouse but got modernized with kone kss 500 0r kss 570
R.I.P 1983 Dover
Cool
Nice
An elevator in our hotel is being modernized! I hope it dosen't turn out as bad as this! That classic 1983 Dover elevator was better with the original COP (circuit operating board) and the original fixtures.
A Final Farewell Ride On The 1983 Dover Elevator
Wow. The smart rice made even more noise then the dover when it was installed.
RIP 1983 Dover elevator
One time I was riding in a 1989 elevator at my job. That waiter was very very fast and every time it stopped a floor it would do a jerk which I call it a bit of annoying
My old elevator replaced from June 19 to September 24
Those new buttons look like ThyssenKrupp elevator buttons
Say goodbye to the Dover elevator
But I got the parts thankfully.
In Singapore, some Fujitech lifts broke down, some of it crashed, some of it's indicator broke.
The Dover’s nice leveling and fast going down speed will be missed, as well as the traditional fixtures.
I like the Spider Box airplane for sale
There's an elevator under modernization right now in my town and I hope it doesn't turn out as bad as this!
What new fixtures will it have?
That hole in the wall that you see with black duct tape the wires right behind in the junction box behind I don't think those wires are live though I doubt they're even live if they were alive they would actually caught a fire by now.
They should have kept the old ones until they died
for new modernisations those have good motors
ZZ9 Productions yea they do I like the the good motors
5:12 what happened to the door?
I like the old fixtures, indicator and lanterns better! This modded elevator is already running terribly, the jolting is hard, and it broke down twice?! This is why I also hate modernization. Same to you!
I like them better when they were original. I hope the elevator mod isn't as bad as this!
I'm so sad the 1983 Dover is gone in heaven #goodbye1983Dover
I wish it would say
I like new mod very much than the old one
The old one worked perfectly fine as well also.
5:02 Why you shouldn't mod elevators
And 5:59,
AND 7:28
Big doors!!
Why was i hearing beeping in the background
I think the alarm panel in the lobby is not reset and probably in trouble mode I believe.
#R.I.P Dover
R.I.P 1983 Dover and 1981 Westinghouse elevators
I did some updates video of the former 1987 Dover Impulses at the City of Wilmington 305 Chestnut Street in Wilmington NC just like you.
are theese ptl buttons
To be very honest, mods like these can be very disappointing. But here’s something cool to think about - Imagine this newly modded elevator a couple decades (or even over 60 years) into the future (if the elevator is still in service)! I’d always wonder how that would be. Modern day elevators, 50-60 years into the future.
Sadly, I imagine most of them aren't built to last quite like the older elevators are. Most will not likely last 50-60 years.
Sadly either this elevator will be modernized again by then given typical low reliability trends of modern parts and company trends and interests. Perhaps by then though they'll plan to demolish the building itself
It makes me sad how such awesome elevators have to be modded. I was very upset when an epic Schindler M Series got modded by a Otis Gen2.
Wow brand new elevator 1983 is clean they've done it
What would be nice is if the original COP was kept original and they only put new stainless over the brass. Same with the doors and lanterns. THEY COULD HAVE DONE WHAT I MENTIONED OR EVEN HAVE JUST DONE A PARTIAL MODERNIZATION.
Sad And I Hate To See These Elevators Go
same a youtube user called BENO told me that modernisation does not make an elevator better. They should just keep things original.
Yes... only but if you use companies like Mitsubishi’s
In some cases a modernization is needed to make the elevator more ADA compliant or if the elevator is a piece of junk.
The one where a Schindler M Series got modernized by leister controls?
May I ask, what is Sugarland? I don’t live in America.
Sugar Land is a suburb of Houston located southwest.
SmartRise is by OTIS
Really? I didn’t know that. I thought SmartRise and Otis both are separate elevator company brands.
JimLiElevators According to Dan & Mark from OTIS, They said SmartRises are on OTIS Hydros. Not HydroFits & MRL's tho
5:02/5:59/7:28 BOUNCY ELEVATOR
Maybe you can do a 2022 take
only america has a vending machine in a medical centre
Why did they modernize that?
No idea.
These were truly beautiful lifts and not only they look good, their motors also sounded great.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I don’t like smartrise
Why would they scrap a working elevator?
No clue, but at least the mod on the Dover was working fine when it was put into service unlike the mod on the Westinghouse where it already starts with a big jolt going up and when it comes to a complete stop going down.
I Like modded elevator
Typical Oracle being slow at the process!
That Dover elevator will be missed😭
wait did you ask him to take the new part out of the machine room?
No, because they needed to have those to put them in the existing spot for installations.
@@JimLiElevators I am referring to the new lantern you were showing
Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to. They let me look at it for photographing purposes as long as I don’t take them out and return it back after I’m done.
Modernized Westinghouse elevator that door it does not open all the way
Traditional Dover with a *BUZZ* ???
It made the buzz (or hiss sound) because both the SmartRise and Dover were run by hydraulic. It makes 2 noises when the elevator goes up, and 1 noise when it goes down. Cable elevators happen to make a silent noice.
i Like modded elevator
The mod may be upsetting, but the motor should be a win.
0:32 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
After the mod on the Dover, why did the Westinghouse go back out of service?
It’s because they were replacing the cab walls so they had to deactivate the former Westinghouse elevator for a bit.
It’s not good that it’s going to be a rest in peace
This is just sad. These DID NOT need to be modernized!
Well that just sucks!
I thought it was Montgomery SmartRise but it’s Otis SmartRise
No, the actual brand is definitely SmartRise; I promise. Otis did NOT make SmartRise products.
Ok I just got confused for a min
If it is tell me if they make mid rise elevators
I feel bad to Jim elevators because he really liked this old 1983 Dover RIP Dover 1983-2018😢
Well don’t feel bad now because parts have already been saved!
You are so great Jim elevators 😊
I also like the indicator and the door opening but I did not like the bump
Sad that it got modernized
R.I.P
Noooooooo! 😢
I’m so sick of generic indicators and generic garbage in general
Me too!
Generic elevators could have some great motors though. joevator 3219 did a hydro motor complication and it included some generics with great motors
Same here! I'm so sick of this elevator having this generic garbage, being have to be modded, and the jolting is so hard!!
@@JimLiElevators Same to me! I hate these basic, plain and generic garbage mods!!
IMO, the mod on the Dover is better.
Ive seen those newer fixtures on a Marcato elevator in NYC, i really wanna know what they are.! I know the LED ring is too big and button is too round to be MAD BS
These are actually some sort of PTL.
@@JimLiElevators really.!? Wow.!
Nice video I work at Nashville International Airport they modified a Dover elevator replaced the call buttons and indicator and the buttons inside it Kone modified it and it stays broken all the time. Then they installed a brand new Kone elevator beside it. And that elevator has stayed broken too. I’m afraid to ride them. Cause of this
OMG Kone is terrible. I have heard numerous rumors that Kone elevators are known for breaking down, and THEY RIGHTFULLY DO!
And that’s who services all our elevators at the airport is Kone
@@JimLiElevators That's funny to hear, because I have a hypermarket (not a mall, it is only 2 stories) that is having one Kone elevator, which has poor maintenance. But it is really efficient!
As disappointed as you may be, you have to remember that everything ages through gradual wear-and-tear. When a machine begins to show its age (e.g. constant breakdowns or creaking) it’s more justifiable in the long run to replace it because maintenance costs will rise significantly. They did this for a reason
You do have a point though. I have also heard that parts are also harder to find which is another reason why elevators get modernized on a regular basis.
SmartRise? Such an UNPOPULAR generic brand. I've never been hearing that brand ever…
Here in Indonesia, the same goes for us in Jakarta. Many old elevators especially the ones in The Sultan Hotel in Jakarta got a semi-generic Korean modernization. From American Otis turned into Samil. Many of our old elevators got modernized into crap, terrible, and unsafe generic elevators.
No mentioning about Pillar Elevator?
I also hear time of my life
Fun fact: Dover is also a city in the United Kingdom.
Ha! Even the camera hates the mod
No idea why it did that.
