I have not been drunk in more than 20 years. I have not smoked cigarettes for 10 years. I have not been homeless for 20 years. Lately I've wished I could end my life. But I know I will try to continue to proceed and enjoy my family. I am feeling blessed by Leonard Cohen's song Anthem

Reading all the comments i realise that there are so many people longing for this truth and peace. Its just that there will only be ONE Leonard Cohen who can fill us with this perfection. Thats why I treasure all of this.

Listening to this while trying to get through crisis after crisis in my life and yet again Leonard is helping me find courage to go on. I'm drinking my morning tea out of a mug with his portrait and the words "I don't need therapy, I just need to listen to Leonard Cohen" and wearing my black windcheater with the same picture and slogan. I have another difficult day ahead but I'm now feeling I can get through it if I listen to Leonard enough! The two occasions when I saw him perform live in Australia are in my list of top treasured memories. I discovered his poetry before his music and neither will ever die.

I suppose the last thing LC needs is another comment - but I'm an old man now and his poetry and music has been the "light that gets in" through my many faults and cracks since the early '70s when we were both a lot younger and members of the League of Canadian Poets back in Canada. This is, I believe, the most profound and characteristic off all his works - I last heard him sing it here in Phoenix AZ over a decade ago, and I have had its wonderful, humbling chorus tattooed on my right bicep for a long, long time. Every morning I see it reflected twice in my bathroom mirrors, and I read it and know that this is all I need to know to get me through whatever the day may bring. What an empty world he has left us with.

Yes my Miracle Tocayo, your tears, ESPECIALLY tears unbidden, are the most appropriate response possible.
Just listen to the words again, with or without the video's lovely images. So much to be mourned in every line, practically in every word, but the tone of HOPE and the gutsy declaration of defiance that "I can't run with that lawless crowd. The killers in their fancy clothes and 'respectable' surroundings...It IS an ANTHEM!

When I was diagnosed with mental illness at 18 years of age, I was devastated. It's been a hard road--I won't lie. But my parents were always huge Leonard Cohen fans, and one day my mom read me the famous four lines from Anthem ("Ring the bells....There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in"). She said everyone has cracks and flaws, but if you look at some of the most brilliant people in history, they certainly weren't perfect.
Cracks allow us to feel deeply, both pain AND love, and who wants to be perfect anyway? Bo-ring. It really helped, and she had the four lines engraved for me on a silver pendant (which I still have, despite the fact it has been many years). I feel grateful to my parents, obviously, but also to this brilliant artist whose lyrics make me feel a little less different and broken. RIP Leonard Cohen.

You could see our world way before we humans could understand it. You could see our sufferings in life. This video is so beautiful. It says it all. Messages for us to learn. Appreciate Nature and all of God's creatures. I love it. The music is beautiful and harmonious. Just perfect for the video. Thank you God for giving us Leonard Cohen. Li Lise Yes, but not sentimental, romantic "love." It's the love that sees others as our brothers and sisters and recognizes our deep connection and the fact that we all have a LOT more in common than the superficial differences often make us think.
It's the love that sees that all those people who look different and have different religions are really the same as us.

I come from Montreal too and can remember Lenny sitting at some cafe writing his poetry, because that is what he firstly was - a divine poet. Such a kind but trouble man, so sad. RIP Lenny, love you still, we all do.

Last night I descovered this vídeo and from the first second I was moved. As it went on, my soul merged with the overwhelming beauty of Leonard´s voice, lirics, musique, and the exquisite images that unfold in mooving armony......my heart exploded and I burst into tears, then; a heavy crying followed and I was one with it, flying with the birds, immersed in the infinite beauty of the whole, feeling touching gratitude towards Leonard, his exintence and unique way. All my life, since my youth, Leonard is been thear, and he will be with me forever. Thanks to all the people involved in this job, and thanks for sharing. I love you Leonard, God bless you!. I hope we´ll meet in the next realm.

Profound ,prophetic truly a legend in our lifetime . We are so fortunate to have lived on this planet with the genius known as Leonard Cohen and what makes it so amazing is the humility to which he lived his life never ever accepting the talent he had as exceptional but of course it truly was exceptional . RIP dear Leonard

Many moons ago, on my classroom wall there was a composer's portrait and a quote along those lines "If everything that happens in one's soul could be described by words, there would not have been music". A profound truth. But then a man came along. He wanted to compose. However he could not quite decide what to use - notes or words. So the man lived with his doubts and composed with both. Then people who heard his compositions were wondering what they liked more - the melody of the music or the melody of the words. They, too, like the man, could not quite decide, but soon they forgot and all they felt, while listening, was an awe. Pure and simple. And then some have tried to explain that it must have been something divine, God himself must have been close. Others referred to magic or mystery.....Yet, some others just said it was Leonard Cohen....And they all were quite right .....

More you listen to this song, Ring the bells that still can ring, forget the perfect offerings, there is a crack, a crack in everything, that's how the lights gets in, you get all energy into your body and mind, automatically calming down, and the whole body is effortlessly sailing along with the waves of the song.!. This is the most beautiful song, the power of voice is pulling you towards the journey in the direction of light, the knowledge to attain the wisdom. ! Love to Leonard Cohen, the greatest singer, composer and poet. ! Worth listening for infinite time...Cohen's music and songs will be in the circulations for over a centuries. ! It was, it is and and it will be...
