I have been a lifelong fan of Mr Clapton. For what it’s worth I am 66. The first time I saw him I was 16. I hadn’t heard this song. It made me cry. When I read he wrote this song it blew me away. Clapton wrote this beautiful song after Richard Manuel sadly passed away. Richard was a beloved member of The Band. My late brother used to help setup concerts downtown in Atlanta. Encountered most of the well known artists but he and his crew liked Pavarotti the best. He always took the crew out to dinner and treated them very well indeed.
I am a 70 years old hard hearted Scotsman but this duet is so spiritual and I am in tears thinking of my mother who was so loving despite all hardships she suffered. I wish I could reach out to her in heaven. Godbless all who are touched by this song.
@@kendavies945 I don’t know why you and Patsy Tate (who gave your comment a 👍 a month ago) think the lyrics are such ‘crap’?! I, and many others, think they are beautiful, as well as the performance! I believe (and hope others agree with me) that you are the minority of listeners with YOUR crappy viewpoint, and I can only say you don’t deserve to even listen or comment on it!
@@kendavies945 I wrote a comment about yours about 1 1/2 weeks ago, but I want to add one more. It doesn’t matter what religion you are - you could be an atheist or agnostic for that matter. The lyrics are beautiful, and just bc it’s called and makes reference to the ‘Holy Mother’, shouldn’t cause you to be biased - their meaning has such depth. What kind of person are you and the others who share your thoughts about this song’s words make you feel like you do? Have you no belief in anything?! If that’s the case, I don’t feel sorry for you - instead I pity you for being so shallow.
It might sound unusual to some, but I’ve shed a few tears listening to this song and thinking about the Holy Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ at my death bed, praying for me and preparing me to meet my merciful Judge, her divine Son Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of the Father.
Timely. He speaks of when his hands can no longer play…after his jab-induced injury, it has greatly affected his ability to play guitar. May Holy Mother hold him in his trials.
I came to listen to this song because of your yesterday’s podcast about Pope Francis insults Cardinal Burke and now I’m hooked to this song. Lyrics are very powerful and relatable to this current situation, and I found myself have tears in my eyes. Thanks DTM for this recommendation and you truly have a tasteful music sense. Holy Mother, ora pro nobis🙏🏻
Woke to this beautiful song to Blessed Mother on my birthday a few days ago...Our Lord and Blessed Mother letting me know my beloved son is with me. JMJ+++
I am an almost “50” year old Jewish woman and this is by far one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard by two of the most incredible, talented artists that have blessed us by joining one another on stage. No matter what religion you are, this song comes down to us all believing in something. And that something = LOVE ♥️♥️♥️
The power of the universal spiritual mother's heart, and intelligence ... is an earthly gift from God to all of is! .... This song is poignant, beautiful, and sure delivers that message! 💓💕👍
@@patricemarie2960 Patrice, I’m not sure why my pointing out Mary’s Jewish roots to a Jewish woman who is inspired by this song to Mary caused you to share this with me. Did my comment offend you in some way? It was Mary’s obedience, not her roots (although the genealogy of Jesus is very important as he is of the Davidic line ) that has caused every generation to call her blessed. Mary is daughter to Father, spouse to the Spirit and mother to the son, and she is of God’s Chosen people. Adam & Eve, Israel, and God the Son are very important to salvation history. Judaism and Christianity share a rich history
Pavarotti's face at 5:14 quite literally says it all. This wasn't just an experience for the crowd. This was an experience for the artists as well. Beautiful!!
@@peterkereszturi246 I respect and appreciate your opinion. I have no reason to criticize it. Music and musical talent strike everyone differently. That's what makes it so wonderful. While Pavarotti and Clapton are from two different worlds musically, and while their voices are certainly incomparable, this was still an amazing collaboration. In that moment, Pavarotti's voice and Clapton's guitar brought together different cultures from around the world, who may not have otherwise united over their common love for music. To me, that is a beautiful thing, but that's just my own personal opinion.
I’m not Catholic but just Christian. But…wow! Eric Clapton played unto God on a level that was other worldly! Just see the expression on Luciano’s face. That was amazing!

My son died in August of 2015 at age 28. I miss him everyday but in the beginning it was intense the pain was unbearable. I grew up catholic so we were comfortable talking to Mary because she knew a mother's heart & gave her son to us. When my died there was a few songs that I listened to for comfort, this is one. Miss you JJP love u forever! Thanks Eric for the song
I'm a 65 year old woman. I've seen Clapton 2xs, freaking amazing. I grew up w him. This is just beautiful, he always, with a guest, plays in the background, never needs to be center of attention. But his playing, is just beautiful & mesmerizing. The choir, all of it together, just beautiful!!
I recently lost my dear wife to complications due to cancer. A friend sent this to me, as a priest we both loved and respected, loved this song, and this particular rendition. Father Mark just died in a auto accident this week. To know that he and my wife are in Mary's arm's, and most importantly, in the perpetual Light of Jesus' face is comforting me where no comfort was found before.

I don't know if you could see it, but Mr. Pavarotti was grinning like a schoolboy when the 3 of you (EC, him, and your choir) were singing together towards the end. Well done. 👏 👏 👏
Hej igen. Ďet er udmærket musik bestående af. Opera sanger og. Clapton. Der mangler nogle styrer musikere med blandt andet med. Violin og. Sjelle så musikken bliver mere fyldige litteraturhenvisninger.
Clapton gives tribute to the Holy Mother for beating his addictions, His Guitar is blue cause every time our Virgin Mary shows up for us , there is a light blue color around her .
I just heard it for the first time today and thought, "is that Clapton and Pavarotti? This is amazing!" I then came to UA-cam to find it. What a magnificent song and performance. I'm a Clapton fan, but I've never heard of this song. Why isn't this played more often?!
My Dad was a big Eric Clapton fan, and he was also a Catholic. He played Eric Clapton a lot during my time growing up, and so much of my Dad's taste in music has rubbed off on me as well. Sometimes my Dad would play this song while he cleaned his room, blasting it on his stereo. It was times like that I'd come in his doorway to talk to him and he'd have some truly wise words about life and God and Mary and such. This song has always given me goosebumps. Eric Clapton displays such raw powerful emotion in his songs, and he's a tremendous storyteller. Sadly, my Dad passed away this past July from kidney failure at 62, after a long bravely hard-fought few months of being in the hospital and rehab. He left this world exactly eight years and a day after we lost my Mom to pancreatic cancer. My Dad said to us, "If something happens to me, know that I'm looking for your Mom." Playing this song today has the deepest meaning and flowing of memories with my Dad than it ever has before for me, and it's songs like these that will help to carry me through this surreal, dark time in my life. Thank you Dad, for everything. I love you so much and miss you everyday, but at least you're free now from everything and reunited with our wonderful family and friends who have gone before you. Rest easy in peace in Heaven, Dad. ❤
That look of Joy Pavarotti gives while he loses himself in Eric's guitar solo and then getting stern with himself to focus on his own part was absolutely priceless. If only the world gave each other the respect for being different that Pavarotti gave his fellow artists there would be no wars anymore.
Sometimes people reach beyond themselves in a way that neither they nor ourselves understand.God's hand is often never seen but often felt. This was one of those times. What a great experience for those lovely kids in the choir.
And on this day, absolute musical perfection was achieved. The finest voice in the world combined with the finest guitarist in the world backed by a powerful gospel choir and orchestra!
Can't agree Steve. There are certain singers for certain types of songs , material, genres etc. Someone I know opined on social media that Karen Carpenter was the greatest ever female singer. I suggested in response that she would not have sounded right if she had sung 'Nutbush City Limits' to name but one example. Karen Carpenter was good in her field but she was not a rock singer. Susan Boyle sounds absurd singing 'Wild Horses'. I could go on and on...For me, Pavorroti does not sound right on 'Holy Mother'. Perhaps I'm prejudiced by Eric's original version. Eric was more than a competent vocalist on most material he tackled. Would Eric have sung 'Time To Say Goodbye' as well as Pavorriti would have done? Of course not. Pavorriti was an opera singer not a particularly good crooner of MOR ballads. It's subjective of course but that's my opinion.
@@anthonyquinn6009 you do not hear what we hear.....I thought it was amazing, some would say a female vocal )as did my daughter) but Pavarottie and Clacton did it brilliantly!
@@jacquelinebell7749 People never hear the same things. I never heard what you hear obviously and you never heard what I hear. As I stated it is subjective. It's a lovely song but Eric did it better on record and in several live performances that can be viewed on youtube without Pavarottie. I just don't think his operatic style is right for the song. That is only my opinion of course.

I just love reading kind, supportive, appreciative, loving comments on the songs that also make me cry if not the comments🥰 Love to all of you and to all everywhere.
As a parent who has lost a child, this song make me cry every time.😢
So very sorry for your loss...💜
First time seeing this. Two men , from totally different walks of life , coming together and producing such beautiful music. Only Eric could pull this off , playing an electric guitar in a world class orchestra. Luciano is so powerful and stirs the emotions this song bears. I Love and Miss you MOM!!

I love this song 💞💞💞💞
My late brother used to help setup concerts downtown in Atlanta. Encountered most of the well known artists but he and his crew liked Pavarotti the best. He always took the crew out to dinner and treated them very well indeed.
That is very special A class act
Love the huge smile on Pavorotti's face the end of the song.
Me too
This has brought me to tears. Holy Mother, hear our prayer.
Our Lady of Mental Peace, pray for us!
I am a 70 years old hard hearted Scotsman but this duet is so spiritual and I am in tears thinking of my mother who was so loving despite all hardships she suffered. I wish I could reach out to her in heaven. Godbless all who are touched by this song.

@@constancelena Thank you for your comment annieph. God bless you too. From David Moynagh
Never thought I would see Pavorotti and Clapton on stage together. This is an amazing and powerful performance.
Agreed, shame the lyrics are such crap. They should have chosen a better song. That would have been so easy.

I agree 👍
Not unusual at all. 😊
Timely. He speaks of when his hands can no longer play…after his jab-induced injury, it has greatly affected his ability to play guitar. May Holy Mother hold him in his trials.
I am not Catholic but this brings me to my knees 🙏
I came to listen to this song because of your yesterday’s podcast about Pope Francis insults Cardinal Burke and now I’m hooked to this song. Lyrics are very powerful and relatable to this current situation, and I found myself have tears in my eyes. Thanks DTM for this recommendation and you truly have a tasteful music sense. Holy Mother, ora pro nobis🙏🏻
The greatness of music. I always determined that’s who this song was about.
I love it when genres blend. And I love it when artists take risks. Beautiful!
Such a good prayer. My heart breaks for Eric's loss. Holy Mother, she knows sorrow too.

Coming back to this song over and over again while living in COVID isolation... Holy Mother, help us all persevere...

Motherhood is from God.
The power of the universal spiritual mother's heart, and intelligence ... is an earthly gift from God to all of is! .... This song is poignant, beautiful, and sure delivers that message! 💓💕👍
Mary is a Jewish mother
@@LC-iv8lf 😀💌
Beautiful!!

Pavarotti is an artist with beautiful voice. The other has no voice

Eric would not have played his solo like that during a rehearsal session - so it would have been the first time for Luciano to hear it.
Even Pavarotti had to smile at the presence of Clapton's stark genius there at the end. This is truly one of the greatest Clapton solos of all time.
It wasn't a solo and all glory to GOD.
It was grand and changed my life

Yes. Blessed Mother hears our pleas. Bless you.❤

Indeed

Dear Mary, Mother of Mercy, please ask your Son to forgive all those in the West who have forgotten and mock Him.

I just heard it for the first time today and thought, "is that Clapton and Pavarotti? This is amazing!" I then came to UA-cam to find it. What a magnificent song and performance. I'm a Clapton fan, but I've never heard of this song. Why isn't this played more often?!

Moving, meaningful and beautiful ! 😮
70 years young I listen to this song a hundred times when I was in need . Thank you for the lifetime we have shared

And on this day, absolute musical perfection was achieved. The finest voice in the world combined with the finest guitarist in the world backed by a powerful gospel choir and orchestra!
Well said Steve. Amazing
@@anthonyquinn6009 Might have helped if Clapton's microphone was adjusted for his height, at least.
