I feel like I can go to bed tonight saying there are people of faith that would understand me because I understand them. I was hoping today I could meet someone like that. And here you, we are. I have said for a long time "I believe, help my unbelief." But when I tell "certain" people that, I know they think I might not believe like them the "right way" because I sound doubtful. But I explain , we believe the same I just have a lot of questions that I ask myself, God, and don't have answers so that I can go preach to everyone with certainty. I feel like a liar when I do because I am not sure about myself, let alone sure of everthing I understand about what God says. I always feel there's more to be said about any truth that I don't know ,haven't heard, or experienced. I say I am a Christian. Recently I have told God "I can't take it anymore." But, "Who have I in heaven but thee, and who on earth?" A couple days ago I told my friend who is a strong fundamentalist; I have a hard time with Gods love; for me the feelings tjat I think I should have. The last time I really knew it was when I was a child. That is when I was innocent, naive, and felt like a butterfly. At 75 I don't pray in public because I talk to God like a child. That's embarrasing compared to the orderd and sometimes beautiful prayers I hear people emote. I wonder why we pray for parking places and get them and trafficked children cry with the purest of hearts and aren't rescued? I believe Gods' ways are past finding out. And someday we'll understand. In the meantime I think I have just discovered I am a "fallibilist." I have a hard time pronouncing that let alone knowing how to spell it escapes me. Thank you for this conservation tonight. I now feel I might be able to understand what CS. Lewis knew when he said something about the myth becoming reality. It lives inside me too. Whether the old, old, story is part of other cultures too or not. I don't know. But the gospel of Christs redeeming grace for me is the only story that makes any sense on this earth.❤ As far as hell is concerned I haven't been able to fathom or imagine how to believe in it as a place after this world. I hope the latest Bible scholar I heard is right. It was given as a warning to stay on the high road while we are here. So as to not come near the likes of the rotten, burning dump outside the city walls of Jerusalem that we are so easily distracted into falling in. That's what I hope it means. I can live with that. I guess I can believe that the good God of my childhood is still the same and doesn't change too. ❤ I usually have a hard time putting myself out there. But God knows. This is how I think.

Looking forward to this, Matt! Your last interview, the one with Breanne Demarco, is an all time favorite interview, like your Jimmy Akin one!
I've been praying to Jesus for people in my life through the intercession of St. Mark Ji Tianxiang (a saint who struggled with drug addiction); St. Mary of Egypt (a sex addict turned saint); and St. Jude for help from our Lord Jesus for those struggling with addiction.
Praying for help from our Lord Jesus daily in my Rosary!
I believe we got the Bible, which has the historically reliable documents The Gospels, from the Church, and the Church precedes the New Testament, and through the history of the popes, the Catholic Church can be traced back to Jesus establishing it as His Church, and even before that, when God raised up the people of Israel, that was the community. The Bible was not read in isolation. They would read the Bible with and through the community. And just like as Christians for 2,000 years, we read the Bible with and through the Church, the lens of the interpretation of the Magisterium which is the teaching office of the Church and the motherly role of the Church. And something like praying the Rosary is not something the Magisterium created, it was something people voluntarily started to do, and it eventually put its blessing on it.
I believe Jesus is the one mediator, and everything flows through Him. He is the center of all things, and in Him, all things came to be. There is instrumental causality that God loves to use amongst His created universe. The power of intercessory prayer, and the power of the intercession of the saints is about that.
Hebrew 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.
James 5:16-17 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. Elijah was a human being like us; yet he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain upon the land.
Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the earth produced its fruit.
Jesus Christ is the mediator, and I believe our Blessed Mother Mary can lead us to Him. She prays for us on our way to Him. When I refer to Mary as my mother, please know I am not taking away respect due to my one and only God, Lord Jesus Christ. I believe loving people Jesus loves helps us love Him more, so the more I love Mary, the more I love God, and Jesus gave Mary to us as our mother on the Cross.
John 19: 26-27 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
Mother Mary, the first Christian with her choice to say "yes" to my one and only God's will, I believe she is the number 1 model for sainthood for both men and women. She did God's will perfectly in every respect from the moment of her conception, listening to every single one of His commands. Her choice to say "yes"
Luke 1:38 Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
to God's will ushered in salvation for the world, and she did so knowing the sacrifices and sufferings that would result from her decision, but, humbly, accepted the privilege of containing the God of the Universe her womb, and then becoming Jesus' most intimate friend, companion, and greatest consolation while on Earth. She was the devil's ultimate humiliation! I believe God is the King of the universe, having all power of the universe, but God chose Our Lady, a humble lowly woman the privilege of crushing the head of the devil.
She is not God. She is a saint, but being that she is with Jesus in Heaven, I ask for her intercession to our Lord (and for sake of brevity, I'll say I "pray to Mary"), similar to how I'd ask people pray for me (please do! I'm a broken sinner in need of many prayers), but I trust she is a saint in Heaven so I believe it is helpful to ask for her help, especially being so close to her Son. There is only one God. He is the source of all good. He is Goodness. He is Love!
I'm praying for anyone struggling with addiction! Hope you have a blessed Memorial day, Matt!

If you want to define the common sense man as not a fool, then I define the man with an argument as not a fool. "If God actually existed, would he appreciate you choosing to believe even if the evidence is 50/50?"
Yes, He would. This is what we mean by, "ascent of the will" which is the foundation of faith. Knowledge is NOT the core of faith, and neither is evidence. If you have 99% evidence against God's existence, but choose to believe in God, this is GREATER faith than those who hold great amounts of evidence/knowledge.
The problem with many atheists who "just can't bring themselves to believe in God" is that they refuse the ascent of the will.

Luke 24:45 “then HE opened their mind so that they could understand the scriptures” For those who know that Christianity is true and that Father, Son and HOLY SPIRIT exist, He has already opened their minds. Perhaps those who struggle need to pray that their minds might be opened, otherwise you will just be spinning your wheels. Childlike faith is what we are called to. It becomes crystal clear when the Spirit has done His work

Every single astrophysics concept, EVERY ONE OF THEM, relies on a myriad of measurements all taken solely using light. Light, a thing that we cannot even measure the one way speed of (we can only measure the two way speed). We don't know for a fact that 1 lightyear from one direction is the same distance as 1 lightyear from another direction. We don't know if light takes 4 minutes to get to mars and 4 minutes to get back or 8 minutes to get to mars and instantly comes back (or something in between). No one in over 1000 years has been able to figure out a way to determine that.
We base our entire scientific understanding of the universe, dark matter, black holes, the mass of earth, the mass of the sun, etc, all on numbers that are measured with something we know we do not have 100% certain understanding of. It's not even a "well we're pretty sure". We KNOW for a fact that we do not understand it.
Yet scientists claim they are certain of things like black holes and the mass of the sun and dark matter/energy, the age of the universe. Then a lot of those scientists turn around and say God isn't real because you cannot be certain.

If under naturalism, "all of our moral beliefs are false" and it strikes you, that they are simply true that all of our moral beliefs are not false. Then maybe your basic premise is wrong. It is NOT the case that naturalism provides no justification for moral beliefs. What is does is demand you be as humble about them as you have been this entire time about "knowing" anything.
Evolutionary theory is bedrock for understanding us as social beings. It best explains why we do good and why we "sin". Our pro social behavior would make no sense for an intelligent race of spiders. This does make it a fantasy or endlessly relative, merely more certain than you claim naturalism can justify and far less certain than any given society's fixed social mores.

The problem of evil is a separate problem or question within the orbit of Gods existence. The fact that we’re dealing with a definite morality in the problem of evil seems like it would point to an absolute or ultimate authority. I really think the problem of evil can be explained through christianiy pretty much just by reading the book of Job and understanding redemptive suffering. The greatest thing God did for us was suffer in the cross and simetimes God allows this suffering as an opportunity for us to grow closer to him. I understand it is a hard teaching for the atheist but i dont think its anomalous. Does anyone disagree? I genuinly do not see the problem with this view.

    • @stephencotter538
      @stephencotter538 6 місяців тому +1

I don't necessarily disagree. I think the problem is the varying levels of suffering. And also the suffering most often isn't a choice. If you told me, "you are going to experience the most excruciating, agonizing, horrifying torture at the hands of a serial killer, but don't worry you'll be rewarded in the afterlife." I honestly don't think I'd have the courage to accept that, even if I was 100% certain of said reward. And also the problem of why do innocent people suffer? because God made a bet with Satan to test our fidelity? The problem of suffering is a tough one, I just try to believe it's a mystery that we aren't capable of understanding, but it doesn't disprove God's existence.

You can easily know that it’s not true if you just read the Old Testament very closely and it’s clear as context and apply. The prophecies of Jesus is life. You’ll see that they don’t apply and then Jesus doesn’t fulfill what the Messiah was supposed to do and that the Jews were right the entire time you can easily know that.

You can prove God exist by providing the Devil is real, n the greatest lie the devil ever told was telling the world he didn’t exist
God is all natural n pure, another way to find him is realize he gave ur soul that body, he’s a guide to finding your Christ soul or bussom of Abraham so you can find Allah “the one true

Critical thinking and logic is what you need to filter the crap,

  • @jkellyid
    @jkellyid 6 місяців тому +3

I think aetheism has too many simple logical fallacies. It pretty immediately becomes materialist determinism, rejects the ability of the individual to know anything... How we can know that we can't know is itself paradoxical and its all downhill from their failing at really most rules of logic. It can't really refute theism because it can't allow any substantive value judgments to challenge theism with. The great challenge to christianity is the problem of evil. But aetheism and material determinism don't think evil exists so it can't even combat it with that...
The great truth of christianity is the bible and jeudeo/christian tradition clearly lay out all the frame works of false belief so completely. No other religion describes so perfectly in terms of both practice and philosophy other religions beyond itself. Aetheism can't rationally interact with theism, or christianity for that matter. But Christianity can clearly account for all pagan beliefs and "progressive" philosphies. It can perfectly predict their form and fuction. Islam for example has no idea what christians believe or jews for that matter, or pagans, but makes false claims about them, and threatens you with death if you disagree openly. False hood always requires violence to enforce, while truth is incorruptable.

You are mischaracterizing atheism a great deal. It doesn't entail material determinism, and it also doesn't entail we can't know things, at least in the sense that we can't be reasonably certain.

Well can you address their points, or just insult them? Your answer tells us whether the idea of religion _should_ be criticized, yeah? I mean I can't speak to the quality of the average atheist commenter here (I haven't noticed many yet), but certainly the key issue is always *our lack of strong, logical evidence of a god.* Without that, we don't know a god exists, and therefore (if we value truth), we shouldn't believe.

4:08 typical theist forming beliefs based on feelings ("I don't like it") instead of truth. If theism were known to be true, you'd see theists constantly steering conversation _away from criticism of atheism._ Why? Because what's the strongest possible way to show that non-belief in Idea A is unreasonable? *Evidence proving Idea A is truth.* So you'd constantly see theists steer conversation towards the evidence of a god if atheism was genuinely irrational, yet instead we see the opposite: theists are extremely fond of distracting off topic (away from defending their belief with evidence _towards_ criticizing other ideas).
Additionally consequences don't determine truth. So if we charitably pretend Nietzsche was a perfect atheist framework (and it isn't, though it gets some things right), who cares!? Either you care about truth or not. If you care about truth, then being disappointed that "children die" is a consequence of child cancer existing _isn't a reason to disbelieve in child cancer!_ The consequences (death) and how we feel about them have no bearing on whether the idea (child cancer) is true or not.
(And seriously, "what would our calendar be like?" Did this guy actually ask that as though it was a meaningful question?)
5:04 Gage admits how things are actually valuable. (They're given value.)
5:12 Gage claims there's no criteria for valuing things. (After literally just stating the criteria: they're given value by us.) It's like his memory is shorter than the 8 seconds between his two statements here!
5:19 Why would anyone be horrified by having freedom? What a frightening slave mindset to want someone to tell him what to do at all times.

This gentleman's disparaging attitude toward those who may be skeptical of coronavirus, vaccinations, and even heliocentrism, is sickening. His craven anxieties of the orthodox Catholic laity having critical opinions of the demonic institutions which threaten the Church are utterly pitiful. Did God use evolution to create humanity? Were Og and Anak giants? Did fallen angels breed with humans? With each booster shot do you feel evermore positively about the enlightenment?
