End-of-road facilities! Yes! I mentioned that to LTA at one of their focus group discussions. If people cycle to work in Singapore, they are bound to need a shower at the end before hitting their desk.
The challenge of cycling on Rail Corridor is to balance your bike at 10km/h!
It's crazy, right? I tried cycling at 10km/h and it's crazily slow. For those non regular cyclist context, imagine constantly finding gold on the road while still cycling. I would say, a relaxing leisure cycling speed is around 15-18km/h. Above 18, you're cycling as a sport/exercing. Limiting cycling speed below 10km/h doesn't make sense
Thank you for sharing your good tips on cycle-commuting to work, especially the point to scout out one's best route from home to workplace. Many Singaporeans miss this point and simply hantam any old way to the office, guided by his daily walk, train or bus, walk route and find that it's unsafe, even dangerous during peak hours.
U need 5o have access to shower facilities at your working place for this to be viable! Shower facilities at a parking area for bikes is not enough as it can be a distance away from your office building.
In going carlite and green, perhaps URA can consider a new green mark initiative for new developments especially office & commercial buildings to include bicycle parks and shower rooms, reduce car parking lots and in exchange allow additional bonus GFA and/or rebates on development charge. Also existing office & commercial be encouraged to convert car parking lots to bicycle lots and convert common areas to shower rooms in exchange for Property tax rebates etc.
The PCN was never created to be a cycle-commute network. It was meant to increase the recreational space in a linear way by connecting neighbourhood residences, 'hood parks, and playgrounds to other parks especially the major regional parks, and that's why these linkages are termed 'park connectors'. A very short while later, the PCN had its objective expanded to make it 'more useful' by including linkage to the nearby transport hubs like bus terminus and train stations. This gave rise to illegal locking of bike to everything (bad outcome), and then later the entry of shared rental bikes (good outcome). The PCN was never meant to be a cycle-commute network of routes to work places, especially from the suburban towns to the city centre.
@keeyanho What does it matter?
As long as its meant for walking, jogging, cycling and such... What does it matter if ANYONE uses the PCN to commute to work?
@@jsp001 It doesn't matter. I just want to make clear to many who think that it's to assist commuting. What is your point???
@@keeyanho So what if the PCNs "assist commuting" for some people?
My point is that your comment is superfluous... very unnecessarily extra.

Let's push to be a Car Lite Hub of the world.
1. More Bicycle Road only, Bicycle Path Only and Bicycle Lane with proper barrier and crossing and even fine to respect cyclists path. All over Singapore. In every heartland, regional center and downtown.
2.More Bus Only Lane in every roads to reclaimed 1 road for bus only road whole over Singapore with every stop light equip with bus priority signaling and even physical barrier. In every town, regional center and the downtown core
3. More pedestrianised roads to claim one more lane from our Roads with More Tree Planting and shrubs to enhance nature further. More than million tree planting movement. and not mix with bicycle path to further enhance mobility in Singapore
4. 1 lane less in every road for cars to further discourage people in owning a car.
Singapore should aim a Bicycle Lane, Bus Lane, Pedestrian and Car Lane. This mode of transport to be respected and uplifted as a norm in Singapore living in Harmony like our Racial Harmony. We need Mobility Harmony and Respect and unity with PROPER INFRASTRUCTURED. Look at Denmark as an example. Thank you.
Thank you
This guy is 1,000% local. Amazing.
The Railway corridor is beautiful, but it is quite narrow. We have to share it's narrow space with walker/runners, and therefore the speed limit of 10kph. If this is used for riding to work, it is a long tour.
Rail corridor is limited to 10km/h. Office 20km away, 1 hour to reach. Ownself pawn ownself. Waiting for NPark/LTA come chit chat only
If the office is 20km away and you stick to the speed limit, then t would take you 2 h.
Mobility Harmony in Singapore should be achieve only when LTA and Government prioritize in every road
1. Fully dedicated Bicycle Road or Lane or Path.with Dedicated Bicycle Stop lights and crossing. Both Sides of Road Direction. Possible take 1 lane from cars.
2. Fully dedicated Bus Lane only. Take out 1 lane from cars with priority stop lights for buses only. Both sides of roads direction
3. Fully dedicated Pedestrian Lane seperated from Bike on both sides of the road.with continuos path with More trees and shrubs and flowers planted
4. Only 2 or at most 1 lane for car thus discourage people from owning cars and becoming more car lite society .
This 4 should be applied whole over Singapore. In every towns, heartlands, Regional centers, town centers and downtown core like Marina Bay, Orchard, Little India, Arab Street, ChinAtown, little Korea Tanjong Pagar and Kampong glam
To make car lite, it's important to reduce the amount of parking lots drastically(at least more than 70% reduction). With very limited parking lots, only then people will rethink whether they need a car or want a car. And to increase way lots of cycling parking(replace 90% of parallel parking to bicycle parking, replace the one level of carpark in every shopping malls to bicycle parking)
The only way for more people to want to cycle is when there are a lot lesser or no traffic lights and very minimal to no slopes on bicycle roads. Rail corridor is the pilot project and good example of ease of cycling for everyday usage. Plus, there must be hefty fines and jail term for pedestrians walking on bicycle roads dedicated to cyclists
I was caught riding at 18km/hr during a downslope and fine for $300. I tried to appeal since I was only 8km/h above the limit, but was rejected by national park and warned to pay immediately or result in $2000 fine. From the video, I can tell you are above the speed limit on certain part of the rail corridor, please be careful. Since last year I never go back to the corridor and warned all my friends.
I commuted riding on the road. PCN and shared paths are hinderance. I only use shared paths only if it gives me a shortcut to get to another road for example will be the aptly named "Dildo ramp" 🤣 to get across AYE.
Strange, most PMDs riding ron the road at about 40 - 60km/hr and yet no fine.
That is absurd. 18 km/h is well below my average riding speed and I'm no superman on a bike. It looks like the authorities enforcing your road rules have too much time on their hands.
You're really really unlucky. I've cycled for almost a decade and never once seen such enforcement as you've described. Sometimes I ride at night after 11pm and go 35-45 on PCN
how did they manage to indentify you?
Be careful of reckless driver when cycle around Singapore. Take care n stay safe. God bless to both of u😊🙏🙏🙏😇
We cyclists really need LTA and NPark to build more and better connected network of cyclist path, PCN and covered link ways, the shelter would help fight the intense heat during the day. More can also be done to encourage a large base of cyclist to be built up in Singapore, eg. besides PCN and cyclist path, cyclist-friendly destinations facilities like lockers, secured, CCTV covered bike park and free shower etc. can be a plus points.
The government can reward building owners with some sort of incentives for instance, for those who provide these facilities FOC to cyclists in their buildings; new buildings as well as older buildings that factor these cyclist-friendly destinations-facilities into their upgrading programme can look to the government for some sort of grant or assistance. This kind of policy would go a long way in helping to reducing motor vehicles on the road, don’t just think of increasing the taxes for road users and COE etc these are not effective strategy. When cycling becomes one of Singaporeans’ favorite lifestyle choices, then office workers will also be healthier due to the frequent cycling to and from work. 😊

Happy day
Beautiful, but I just hope commuters who want to cycle don't cycle on the roads and slow down those who choose to take the bus , drive or ride a motorcycle.. lol
No choice, cycling on the road is way faster.
@@predatorhelios8633 there is always a choice
@@awakenedservant If not I have to use the pavement, which is further, narrow and inconvenient.
Don't forget singaporeans whole life forever can only afford to take bus and mrt but not buy car, the pap party fault
Not true. Maybe you speak for yourself. If you cannot afford it, work harder and save more. Don't keep crying in social media.
Can buy car la but must sacrifice a lot like having less kids, less overseas trips, less eating in restaurants cant have too many luxury things and under 1k a month you will be able to buy car. If the gov make it too easy to buy car everywhere will jam even sbs buses will jam with them no thanks lol
You won't look forward to cycling to work once you get hit and run over by a car one day while doing so. It's not a matter of if. It's just a matter of when only.
You seem to have a terribly pessimistic view about "cycling to work"... or are you just wishing it??
Death comes to ALL of us, including you AND your loved ones... its not a matter of if....its a matter of WHEN.
Everyone is at risk, not just cyclist.
