Killzone 2 is the best. I love the way the weapons feel in that game. I wish they had kept with that in Killzone 3. The less said about Killzone Shadow Fall the better imo
Game is awesome yeah - Digital Foundry has a great retrospective on it. Excellent game and the clear best in the series imo at least (other than the input delay that is).

I never played shadow fall but I loved the first three games. I remember in Iraq we played the death match type game against bots cause it was kind of like online with no internet. I have nothing bad to say about the first three games I get what this guy is saying but this game is from 2004 and it wasn’t that bad in my opinion
I havent played this game in 15 years and I remember all of the sound effects and even the inaccurate guns. That being said, I still really liked this game and I have fond memories of playing the multiplayer with my stepbrother. I cant even imagine playing it today though itd probably ruin my nostalgia

My most played game on ps2 , mostly spent on botzone;) i realy hope that secret fps project by guerilla is a killzone reboot, the franchise deserves a proper return to glory. a mix sf/kz2
it does ! it's such a good franchise, i think i have over 200 hours on this game like played the campaign about 8 times and the botzone had really cool maps. Deathmatch was the best mode i played .
Aah the joy of discovering you can shoot all 3 barrels at once with Helghast rpg. Shotgun could shoot 3 or more shells at once in big bursts. It was so fun to wreck bots since online wasn't possible for me at the time of PS2. I enjoyed story too. It was a nice touch to have different routes for different character you pick.
Oh no buddy . there are many of us out there believe me. Among all of the Killzone games released, my favourite is still the first . i played it the most back in the days and i also loved the story of the 4 characters in the game. i just wished that Hacka and Luger got a role in the sequels as well . Guerilla just deleted them after Killzone 1 .
I remember Killzone 2 when it's came out, i know by that time Gears of War was really big thing, and Halo 3 already too, but Killzone had his own way, more reallistic, it was incredible, with the limit of hardware that had PS3 of course
This was the first fps i ever played in my life and i was blown away by the graphics at the time. By the time killzone 2 came out i was 13 years old and the graphics of that game blew me away even further, it looket almost life like at times (that’s how i remember it, it’s probably not so good looking nowadays) nonetheless the killzone series was an awesome thing if you didn’t have access to halo

I had the original Killzone at launch and thought the PS2 wasn't able to handle it. Got the Trilogy on PS3, and was really surprised that it felt pretty much the exact same as the PS2 version. You said it perfectly when you said all the guns felt heavy. I used to go back to this a lot when I didn't have anyone to play Halo multiplayer with because it was really fun (for me) playing the multiplayer on this with bots. Never beat the campaign to this day.
Halfway through this video I paused it to watch the 2006 Australian film "Candy". At one point there's a scene where someone is playing this game. Weird coincidence.
I really loved it back when it was released. I'd even say the lack of music added to the atmosphere. I especially remember the wide variety of levels, it felt like it had everything.

Yes, please look at Killzone 2. I hated the first, loved the 2nd. For me, the series never reached the heights of 2 again. It's still got one of the toughest, most intense final sequences of any shooter I've played.
Killzone 2 is worth checking out, it's almost unrecognizable from the first game and is much more coherent. The third and fourth game feel more/less the same. The best parts of these games were the multiplayer as they had some fun game modes that created some intense and memorable moments. Unfortunately the game lobbies are dead for these games, but maybe someday there could be a game that recaptures the feeling.

I think it was just overhyped, and people had unrealistic expectations of what could be achieved on the PS2.

My favorite FPS of all time. I spent thousands of hours over years playing the online multiplayer. Sure the gameplay was clunky but the community and the competitive nature of everyone made it worth playing. Wish they recreated the online version in the remastered version. Killzone 2 review would definitely be worth watching.
I have to admit i was a little bummed out with this one. Killzone was one of my all time favorite games period. I didn't have an xbox til around the time halo 2 was booming, so i never really got into the whole craze of it. I always thought Killzone was unique from Halo or even most shooters as a whole. It wasn't a high octane super soldier arcade shoot em up. It was more grounded and had weight and momentum. It was more tense and visceral because you were slower and more vulnerable. It had some authenticity. But what i loved the most was how they did the 1st person perspective. How the perception would shift when reloading and how it would tunnel when firing and how it reacted to different weapons. That's what i always thought made it unique from Halo. But i do agree with you on a few things. The squad AI was missed potential being kind of pointless the way it was. They weren't pushovers, they would definitely hold there own but they served no real purpose other than bullet magnets and they did tend to get in the way alot and even bitch at you when you accidentally hit them because they stepped right into your line of fire. The voice acting was not the best either. It came off cartoony and animated and the story was pretty vague and dry. It's age definitely shows. But it's still a cult classic in my eyes and i still hold a fondness for it. I hope you review the rest of the series because like many game series' the first one is more of a prototype. The others have some pretty significant improvements.
You did a review about a PCSX2 game and not about a PS2 game. You can do an accurate review on a emulator. Specially PCSX2 which is emulator made with performance in focus and not accuracy. That means textures are different, sound is different, input lag, effects like lights, smokes, fires are all different from real hardware. Plus the performance is very different, killzone runs at like 15fps on real hardware. Is a completely different experience. Is this a good trade off only to get a better image ? Obviously it isn't. I mean why you can't even use a inexpensive upscaler with component cables like Retrotink2X or OSSC ? Will look just as good as an emulator.
Question, are you a strictly post 90s 3D graphics games channel? Cause I'd love to see you review classic RPG games if you wouldn't mind it. I feel like you'd enjoy exploring the development history and audience reception of games like Daggerfall.
I think your missing the thing that made killzone great Gamebattles.com Clans like GODZ T1 TOONZ really ran the leader boards. I remember scheduling matches and blocking out a whole day just doing clan battles.
I played a ton PSP. It was the most fun game. I loved going through the levels with different guns you could equip at the beginning of each mission. Too bad I couldn’t find such other great game like that.
I actually don't remember having the sniper aiming issues, did they get rid of that in the PS3 re-release? That's the only version I played. And in general I found weapons to be acceptably accurate for a PS2 era FPS, so I wonder if they fixed that in the PS3 version as well.
Interesting review. Played all but Mercenary (looking for it physical though) and yeah the heavy feel can be awkward especially in 1 compared to 2&3. I didn't think much of 1 and got all other entries before it (2, then 3, Shadowfall, Liberation then 1 and obviously looking for Mercenary physical), while Liberation being Isometric and fitting the PSP well it feels very different compared to the rest of the series, but it feels rewarding in any of the games even with how tough they can be. I never got into the lore though I should but I find myself going back to Killzone more than Halo these days. Heads up for Killzone Liberation on PSP, get the Chapter 5 DLC from Guerilla's website as it fills in the story gap between that and Killzone 2 (with Riko) that chapter 4 of the game doesn't and its an extra 4 levels to enjoy for free. They can be hard on high difficulties but was interesting to experience either way.
Honestly, if there is any game in the PlayStation library that resembles Halo somewhat, it has got to be The Resistance series made by Insomniac. You might want to look into that franchise, if you haven't already or if you feel like doing so.

It wasn't all that bad to be honest, remember the multiplayer was fun and split screen was fun too. Plus unlike halo this is actually a modern fps game with modern graphics but on a console that couldn't handle it.
I think it is an OK game, gameplay wise. You can have some fun, but dying is frustrating, it didn't age well. I really like the story and the background tho.
I tried this game at a mate's once, he loved it, but I, for reasons I don't recall especially since I'm not a Sniper, found myself wielding the Sniper Rifle and it put me off, feeling too... odd! And I have played Timesplitters, so... make of that what you will!

The PS3 Hardware was powerful, but a limit number of developers could make work at it's maximium performance.

I tried this game at a mate's once, he loved it, but I, for reasons I don't recall especially since I'm not a Sniper, found myself wielding the Sniper Rifle and it put me off, feeling too... odd! And I have played Timesplitters, so... make of that what you will!
I have the PS Vita Game. I liked it. So I might have to play this one. My ps 2 is already hooked up.
