You NEED to see the series Mark Rober did on trying to squirrel proof his bird feeders... by turning them into Ninja Warrior courses! Totally hilarious and very inventive.
Also really made me love and admire squirrels.. especially the cute one that was pregnant and originally he thought she was just chubby.. so innovative and cool
This was such a funny comedy routine. The translated instruction 😅and the ding dong app Too funny. You guys approach things with so much humor! It is kind kewl, I might just have to get one
Yall crack me up!! I am following Gods signs and have a working interview with Tigers of Tomorrow in Alabama. Back to working with animals and my heart is happy. Yall created my new passion for birds, cant wait to see where it takes me❤
Cornell has a bird ID app called Merlin. You can ID birds by sound, photo or description (and area you are at). US only. It also helps record data of migratory birds for scientists/conservationists when you identify a bird in your app and you hit the button to report your find. Though, I love this bird feeder idea! We are going to be moving to the opposite side of the country soon and this would be a whole new way to learn all the local wild bird types! Those were some cute Chestnut-backed Chickadees! Hi Blueberry! You are super cute too! Lol
I ❤your channel. I'm in Sydney, Australia. I saved an umbrella cocky a few months back. It was sitting under a huge rubber tree in my local park along Sydney harbour. I picked it up in my hoodie,it didn't bite or try and fly. I walked it to the vets, they said it was a baby probably trying to fly and fell. Cause the park is full of killer umbrellas lol. It was 2 metres near the bissy main road and totally in shock I think. Watching your channel gave me the courage to pick it up,even though I was shaking at the time.😂
Great timing! I was going to get one of these for my mom for her birthday, now I can save a bit. Plus, I am prepared for the weirdness of the instructions ^_^
We have Corellas, Lorikeets, Galahs, Noisey Minors, Indian Minors and Butcherbirds as well as Ravens and Crows in the very large tree outside my window. We would have bird wars repeatedly. It’s bad enough as it is. The Lorikeets would end up inside my house demanding food and nipping us when we didn’t comply. I was repeatedly nipped once at the New South Wales Art Gallery when I was trying to drink a cup of coffee so thank but no thank you. 😂😂😂😂 Edit: Umbrella Cockatoos come from Indonesia. I would be careful in the placement of the feeder with cockatoos as they could rip your house apart.
I would love this! I love birds and have a special love for Robin's after rescuing one my neighbor almost killed . I named him Tyson(because he was a fighter) I called several places and ended up talking to a lady who rescues wildlife and she told me how to treat him. Long story short Tyson & I became very attached. He would fly away for hours at a time and always came back right when sun was going down and I'd just walk on my porch and call him and he would come to me. He would walk around the garden eating the worms when I was out there digging up weeds etc. I've rescued 2 robins in my life(the other ones name was MJ for Michael Jordan cause he could jump high)and they bond to you like a dog does. ❤
Follow up reply as I'm replying as I'm watching this, I LOVE the Wifi network names. LOL! And you know which one I'm talking about specifically. I have FBI Surveillance Van on my network.
@@pasplatt116 I’m a pet sitter and as I search for Wi-Fi in the various houses and neighborhoods, “FBI Surveillance Van” has already come up as a network name in two different locations! Too funny!
I had a Bullock’s Oriole on my antique cider apple, it has larger, pinker flowers, and it was going from flower to flower..super gorgeous with almost reddish color..
Thank you for the gift idea. If you have a large tree in the backyard, you want to hang a birdfeeder by rope/cable, but you want to have about a - 2' x 2' piece of sheet metal placed above the birdfeeder. The sheet metal will provide some shade for our feather friends and provide entertainment of watching the squirrels slide off the sheet metal when they attempt to jump from another branch on to it or come down the rope. Occasionally, they will make it; mostly they will get dumped on the ground. Was worried about the squirrels falling prey to the feral cats when they got dumped, but the cats didn't bother with them.
Bird cams are great security! I got one to use for my indoor birds, but ended up aiming it at my downtown San Francisco front window to see who was pooping under our window. Turns out it wasn’t who I thought it was! It was also a deterrent for crime, and I could lay in bed to see the crazy stuff going on outside. I caught all kinds of crazy stuff on that camera. So I highly recommend bird cams!
Awesome video! 😄Love the feeder footage at the end. --You may have to start adding a notice at the beginning of some videos "Portions of this video are rated r, viewer discretion is advised" 🤭😄
It depends how many squirrels you have in your area. One place I lived had a ton of beautiful wild birds but once the squirrels found it they were constantly in it and gave very little opportunity for the birds to come. And if you have quite a few gray squirrels they take the seeds like 5x faster than just the birds because they end up making stashes of seed. I had sunflower plants sprouting up in all my outdoor potted plants because they were taking those seeds and burying them everywhere. lol I ended up trying to scare off all the squirrels except the one red squirrel as he would not come as frequently as the grays. But even when you scare them off they’re back in 10 minutes.
Add cayenne pepper to the birdseed. Squirrels will avoid it while birds don’t even notice it. Edit: Here’s hilarious proof that birds are impervious to hot peppers: ua-cam.com/video/pVLKNNudT28/v-deo.html
That is cool. I love in an apartment building, so I couldn't really use one, but I'd love it, if it was no trouble, to see some of the footage from time to time that you guys get
It’s always the men who can’t stand seeing squirrels at the feeder! Dave should watch Mark Rober’s videos on the squirrel “assault courses” he’s set up for the most determined squirrels to get a treat. He’ll be inspired to build his own.
This is funny! I would never buy this ding dong machine but I love that you did that! The multi use of this funny thing as your security cam is so clever good job Dave! Are you going upload some pictures to your UA-cam shorts? And also, wouldn’t it be better to use your DIY seed mix instead the commercial stuff? Since wild birds are not going to forage for these seeds I bet human grade organic feed is going to be better quality and nutrition feed. Yes I know this wild birds are so active it might not be that important for them to have some commercial seed, so I might be kinda dumb thinking that will make a big of a difference or not.
If a phone ding drove you nuts, a squirrel siren is gonna be fun. UA-camr, Mark Rober is an engineer who designs items/systems to handle pests. Think porch pirates and ....squirrels. Check out his squirrelympics to see what you are up against when it comes to protecting your bird seed. I look forward to seeing how your system handles the problem!
They can be incredibly destructive as well though and nest in your home if you let them burrow into areas of the roof so just gotta be mindful. They have plenty of natural food sources!
When will the freeze dried seasonal feeding system be back in stock? I’ve bough the seasonal feeding system cookbook series and my birds are loving it so far but I’d really love to try the freeze dried!
I need the squirrels too if I bird feed her they're cute too but I leave out stuff for the opossums and even the raccoons. I tend to feed the opossums and raccoons away from the house though cuz they can be pesty. If you feed him near your back door they might come in through the pet door. I mean I like them I just don't want an opossum or a raccoon especially in the house
OK, at first I thought this was just an expensive bird feeder for no reason. But by the end of the video I was kind of intrigued. Does it actually identify the species of bird coming to the feeder? I might have to save up my money for one of these.
I have another question I hope you can answer. I paid a LOT of money for our screened in porch. I want to let my budgie out when the weather gets better of course. Will he make marks in the screen or do they stay away? It’s a normal screen not super thick or anything
Do you have any leftover screen material? If you don’t, you probably could get a free sample at your local hardware store. You could attach it to the inside of your bird’s enclosure to see if it gets claw and beak damage.
Check on screen composition - stainless steel is OK, but zinc coatings or constituents, other metals may be toxic if ingested (chewed, or by licking and cleaning nails).
Any parrot would make quick work of regular window screen mesh. It would be about as reliable as trying to contain a bird in cardboard. Definitely not to be trusted to leave them in unattended. You would need to reinforce it somehow.
Careful with outdoor birds and bird feeders. Avian flu is currently going around, and you wouldn’t want any of your pet birds to catch that. There’s legal things that require your bird to be euthanized if they catch avian flu because that strain of flu is transmissible to humans. Also be careful of regularly putting out bird seed for outdoor birds. Try to sporadically and randomly feed birds rather than filling the feeder everyday at the same time because birds can get dependent on your feeder and as generations pass, may not learn how to actually forage and find food on their own. This will lead to a bunch of birds dying of starvation the second you stop feeding them just cus you for whatever reason couldn’t refill the feeder for the outdoor birds.
This'll make a great gift! Thanks for the laughs and gift idea!
Awe! Thank you! ❤

I dont understand why people hate squirrels. I have 3 red squirrels in my back yard and I want them to come to the feeder. They are so funny!
They just dump the feeder and make a mess. So far the Netvue one is holding strong though!
It depends how many squirrels you have in your area. Also red squirrels are a lot smaller so they just don’t take as much and are less intimidating to the birds.
I put my wild bird seed on the ground and the squirrels and bunnies and birds all eat together, it’s so cute to see.
Add cayenne pepper to the birdseed. Squirrels will avoid it while birds don’t even notice it.

Love that it has an arsenal against squirrels. Their fluffy tails are hiding the real nature of the beast: cannibalistic evil pest.
Larger sd cards are a problem for many appliances that don't have a laptop-sized processor. They need to read the whole thing and it takes too long.
