Thank you for another awesome adventure! I really enjoy catching up with what you guys are doing! I love getting to see all these great places that I may or may not get a chance to visit. Thanks again.
Jordan, Dessiree, Isabella, and Oso, I’m not sure if I can put into words what I’m feeling after watching this episode. I’ve been following y’all since the end of Aticus I. You guys have shown me and your audience parts of this world I will probably never visit, and you’ve done it in style, with great storytelling, history lessons, and excellent video production. Plus, you’ve allowed us to witness your love of family and presented us with a positive view of everyone you’ve interacted with. Good luck with your adventures and finding a beautiful home for your family. God bless.
WV native here. It is a beautiful state! We left in 2000 for economic reasons and I definitely miss parts of it. Just a note, I know you've likely made a decision and offer on land... if not be sure to know what you are buying. Be aware of who owns the mineral and gas rights under the land. I have extended family members own rights under land that was sold decades ago. I'm not saying not to purchase land that doesn't include these rights.... just saying it's good to have knowledge of what you are buying so there are no surprises in the future.
I understand that it's economic challenges are considerable, but seriously, I just don't understand how one wouldn't fall in love with West Virginia. I'm so glad that you are willing to check it out! Oh, & CONGRATULATIONS, GIO!!! 👶🍼🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Jordon, truly amazing footage. We visit West Virginia on our way south during our cold winters and love their vistas. The people and activity's are a great way for us to relax on these visits. Good luck with your decision, should be epic.
This brought back memories of my great grandparents working in the coal mines. They moved from Kentucky to southern Indiana, where I grew up. We moved to Florida in 2009 and boy do I miss that rural life style. 1000 people move to Florida every day. I'm ready to move back home. Seems everywhere I go now, there are cars in front of me, behind me and to each side - running red lights and ready to run you over if you hesitate at a stop sign. I've been enjoying watching you since Atticus I, but this has got to be my favorite episode. Move now, don't wait another minute. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us.
Good job, personally NW Gerogia looked inviting and is closer to your family. The exception being to purchase the water-wheel mill in West Virginia, turning it into a stunning AirBnB.
New River Gorge is one of my favorite places. It's a "short" drive from my home in Charlottesville, VA and my friends and I have spent a lot of time kayaking, white water rafting, hiking and most of all climbing there. Bridge Day is especially fun.
Welcome back Jordan. We have you cleared to come and visit us at Fort Bragg, North Carolina to see how our green berets train are 12 man special forces teams, train, and Medicine communications weapon survival and all the cool things I think he would enjoy very few or get this opportunity, but we have watched your videos for years and our top people find you and Desiree a fascinating couple.
I've visited Fayetteville many, many times for white water rafting and Bridge Day. In the Fall, it is exceptionally beautiful! Hope you all find what you're looking for.
I went to the scout jamboree at summit bechtel reserve. It is a beautiful area. West Virginia is wonderful, but you will need to homeschool your kids, and hope your utilities work…
You guy’s should check into a “Grist Mill” or any kind of water mill, there should be a lot of them around there and they make great homes or airBNB’s. They’re probably cheaper than a “Brick & Stick’s “ home, and they’re very stout & sturdy, plus they’re warm in the Winter and Cool in the Summer. People love to stay in them too. I’m excited see what you guys end up buying, I ended up “settling” myself, but it’s going to be a fun project and I’ll try again in a couple of years.--
Born, raised, and live in WV. We live an hour and a half from Fayetteville. It’s a very laid back place. If you’re looking for excitement it’s not for you. Prices very economical
That reason is coal country. The southern half of the state resembles a third world country in some spots, while other parts are doing just fine. The parts that aren't, however, drag down rankings, statistics, etc, for the entire state.
By now I guess CONGRATULATIONS is in order for the family addition! I hope all went well and mom and baby are doing well! I went to Virginia Tech and spent a lot of time in WV since it was so close and my friends and I spent a lot of time hiking the mountains of Va and WV. You are certainly looking at a lot of cool places in the South East! I hope you find the perfect place!😊
What a lovely region. I hope there's enough range of commercial activity in the area to support yoursleves. Also, I wonder if the distance from population centres, provides enough tourism and consistent demand for Airbnb's. I'm sure it gets busy in the summer, but a business needs demand in the winter and the shoulder months, like November and February. That bridge walk was scary, while the rock climbing looked good.
The cathedral cafe was the first place I visited In Fayetteville driving back to charleston from our 1st wedding anniversary in 1998. We took the scenic route from Lewisburg to Charleston. It was owned by the founders of pies and pints at the time.
West Virginia has some of the highest utility costs in the country, gasoline prices are higher and food prices are astronomical… the cost of living is higher than anywhere else we’ve lived. The primary reason is that nothing we purchase is made or grown here. All of our goods are imported from out of state. The transportation costs to get goods into WV increases costs beyond belief. The only financial savings for us is property taxes. Example from just this weekend. I flew our daughter to Columbus OH from Charleston. I ordered three pizzas from our favorite spot in Columbus. The cost for 3 large pizzas was $47. Here in Charleston, the same order would have been between $70-$80. Our gas bill in the winter hits $400/month. During the summer, $600 electric bills. Water is around $197/month. When we lived in Savannah, GA we had a very similarly home. We didn’t have gas, but our electric bill never exceeded $300, water never exceeded $100. My wife and I grew up in WV and, after being away for over 20 years, living in OH, NC and GA, we longed to return home. We’re 50 years old and this move has been the worse financial decision of our lives. We are waiting until April to hit the two year mark and LEAVE
Have you considered their education system West Virginia ranked near the bottom is a few categories that include: Math Test Scores (49th), Reading Test Scores (50th), and Median SAT score (T-49th).Jul 29, 2024
I'm originally from Hinton WV, the headway to the New River Gorge National Park, and i think opportunity for entrepreneurs exist there. The park has ignited tourism and relocation to the area.
Knock out video. Almost gave me vertigo, haha. No really, my wifes family came out of the town of New River by Golly. Ask around and find out if folks still use the term, "Minden Rig" to refer to anything that is a little sketchy or just casually cobbled together with bubble gum and bailing wire. By now i expect Desiree must have brought forth a new girl? Keep up the good work you guys.
Love West Virginia, been there, great land. You might want to also consider Angel Fire, NM (too far, I know, but awesome) or Middlesboro, KY (even closer than WV). I miss Atticus I. 😢
Been watching you guys for years! Fellow sailor from the best mountain state in the east…. Come check out the Red River Gorge in Eastern Kentucky!!! Best of luck finding a great new home! I love NRG
West Virginia is an up-and-coming state. Wild Wonderful Off-Grid is in WV on their homestead, doing well. There's a lot to like about the state. But I would wait until the economy improves with the new administration and interest rates go down, unless you find something you can't live without.
Don’t wait till interested rates come down, that is going to spur a buying frenzy from everyone waiting for rate drops! Buy now refinance when rates drop and you beat the massive price increases from mass demand!
I’m not sure the new administration will improve the economy of families like yours! I remember seeing bank mortgage rates at 11% when we were looking for a house for our new family.
Jordan, I’ll bet Xio (your Suegra) is excited about having two-more grandchildren coming up. Overall, I believe both you and Desiree may be more content moving to an area closer to both sides of grandparents. Yes, I believe you will find a place in Florida (my prediction).
Hope you guys are well. Love WVa but I would want to be closer to family. Thinking North GA or SW NC would be a better fit. Also you could draw off of the ATL for the Air B&B traffic. Or you could just save time and move to Florida and work on boats. BTW your background and history of the places you visit make your work special. Maybe live in FL close to family and do a travel channel????
WV is awesome as a vacation destination as I have lived very near the places that you highlighted. Problematic as a place to live and will likely require some adjustment to lifestyle and expectations. Access to basic services and the finer things in life, though available, generally require extra effort and time investment. I'm not advocating against, as it has a lot to offer for a certain portion of the population, just set and manage expectations appropriately.
I was born and raised in WV, left at 18 and still have family there. The state is beautiful but severely backward and lives off of government pork barrel spending. Low property taxes, but one of the last states I would relocate to, especially with a family. Depressing and can be dangerous and many people born there (just about everyone I knew there) get lung-related chronic diseases (asthma, allergies, COPD) due to the chemical industry. Great to visit, terrible to live. Check out Tennessee, Ohio, or Maine.
I'm a born and raised West Virginian. I"m the first of 4 or more generations that WASN'T a coal miner. I still have cousins who work in the mines. It's an amazing place. If you choose to raise your kids there you won't regret it. Fayetteville and the Beckley area is just big enough for convenience and your wilderness is still just around the corner. WV will never be much more than it is now. They have tried to transition away from coal for decades and there just isn't a lot of real estate to build anything substantial on. So it should stay like it is for the majority of your kids lives.
Suggestion. Hold your funds and wait for major price drops on a lot, so you don't need to get a loan on a lot. Find a lot in a township that will allow you to park your RV and stay in it while you build. Not all townships will allow this. Purchase a lot near a power line on your side of the property so you can have power trenched to your build site. I had my power terminated on an external 6x6 post with a outdoor 200amp panel/meter base with a 30amp plug for my RV. Trench power to house. House would have a 200Amp sub panel. In hind site, I wish I had put in a larger service > 200Amps.
Better option is to buy on the potential. Lot of money is sitting ready to get into the real estate. Interest rates are probably not going to move significantly in the coming years. 1 maybe 2 points. Refinance in the future. Water and Electric already established on the propery are key. Expensive and time consuming.
Yes, West Virginia . It's conservative and ready for a great awakening. The other plus your not close to the mega urban areas of the east coast. I live in the northern Appalachian mountains of New Hampshire and we are just hours to NYC AND BOSTON. Take this into consideration.
I just started using a GoPro. Can someone give me some recommendations of a video editing program i can use to splice my short videos together? Thanking you in advance. BTW, I live in WV. It's nice to see you promoting our state.
West Virginia is beautiful. It is a shame what has happened there. They are good hard working people. It is embarrassing how we have neglected these great Americans
If I were you, I would leave America and live in China, Vietnam, or Southeast Asia. Life is better, cheaper, and more relaxed there than it will ever be in the States.
I’ve been watching your videos for about a year, (and back episodes). Gonna tell you every place you are thinking of isn’t a good Air B&B place. Maybe as a tax write off, but money making? Probably not. Good luck..
Not trying to be political here but please consider the bodily autonomy your daughter will grow up with and the level of education and culture she will be exposed to. Also most Republican lead states tend to be the least caring about their citizens.
Native West Virginian here and I sadly say that you would have to be insane to move to this state. The reason WV is at the bottom in nearly every single matrix is because the people of WV consistently vote against their own best interests and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Yes this state is beautiful but the residents are quite possibly the worst people you will ever meet.
As a fellow West Virginian, I can say with near certainty that if you have a problem with the majority of the people here, then you are the problem the majority of the time. Your attitude clearly sucks.
Like most impoverished red states it has poor quality public schools and near zero opportunity for young professionals. They have a major opioid addiction problem with associated crime. It is a nice place to enjoy the outside. It may not be the best choice to raise a family.
Maybe you’re just trolling, but what you posted is simply incorrect. If anyone reading this wants to verify that the song is indeed about West Virginia, take 90 seconds and read the lyrics.
It was wonderful seeing Gio again. Congrats Gio! I think you will be an awesome mom! Thanks guys!

100%! Couldn't agree more. Very well stated!
Poor schools and abysmal medical services.

Always L❤V your history lessons. Truly better than any history class I was ever exposed to. History Teachers in the making perhaps?

We are from Harper's Ferry, WV and now live on our sail boat S/V Bogan. West Virgina is a great state to live, explore and create a homestead.

Jordan, be honest here - what percentage of your quiet time reverts to memories of sailing the world ?!?! My advice, live your dream, life is short.
U have the perfect video to bring tourists to your new venture.
Awesome! Cheers Gio!
Born, raised, and live in WV. We live an hour and a half from Fayetteville. It’s a very laid back place. If you’re looking for excitement it’s not for you. Prices very economical
It is a beautiful area for sure.
Someone said to me a long time ago, make sure you have a major airport within 2-3 hours drive.
The state is ranked near the bottom in all family related categories. Health care , schools, ext. there’s a reason it’s cheep
That reason is coal country. The southern half of the state resembles a third world country in some spots, while other parts are doing just fine. The parts that aren't, however, drag down rankings, statistics, etc, for the entire state.
I lived in WV for a few years. It’s an AMAZING place. All you need to enjoy it is to step outside. Also, SO CHEAP. SO SO CHEAP.
By now I guess CONGRATULATIONS is in order for the family addition! I hope all went well and mom and baby are doing well! That bridge walk was scary, while the rock climbing looked good.
I live in WV and it's phenomenal to live in.
Awesome video. Such beautiful country. Congrats to Gio.
Love it! Saw some people that worked as camp hosts all over that area for years..its a nice area.for exploring
John Denver called WV almost heaven in his "Take me Home Country Roads" hit .. hope this helps some 🙂
The cathedral cafe was the first place I visited In Fayetteville driving back to charleston from our 1st wedding anniversary in 1998. We took the scenic route from Lewisburg to Charleston. It was owned by the founders of pies and pints at the time.
No matter how cheap the real estate deal, WV is the worst place you could choose. The real estate is cheap for good reason. Be careful
Oh my gosh. That bridge walk would be a life experience. How beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

Check out Charlottesville and the outskirts like Crozet in Virginia, lots of breweries, vineyards, historical places like Thomas Jefferson’s home
Not to mention taxes… just saying.
Oso & cliff's!!!!..... doggo has😂 no concept of what happens if you fall off the edge. lol.
Have you considered their education system

Definately home school and be careful, there are a ton of deer ticks there that cause Lyme disease. ALOT.
Great video - Had already planed a CamperVan vacation to WV and now looking to it ev3n more 😮
Big ideas, short on funds, not sure how that's gonna work but good luck.
Awesome video. WV looks so beautiful. How did you manage to film the climb without totally destroying the One X3?
It is beautiful there. I live in Florida and have never been to West Virginia.
The restaurant at Hawks Nest observatory has the best view
Look at Scottsboro, AL. Jackson CO has lots of land Mountains and the TN river.
Also WV has TUDOR'S BISCUIT WORLD! It's an entire world of biscuits! 😆
Can’t wait for Baby Scarlett announcement 📢 ❤

I loved living in WV but car insurance is more expensive due to a lot of uninsured drivers.
WOW

Born and raised there. The locals don't like outsiders . Be careful where you move to. West Virginians want to keep it rural.

Even a tree was able to climb the "Bad Boy" but it could have taken a little longer to get up there.
Oxford, North Carolina. Beautiful southern town
I went to Hinton, West Virginia, Virginia for three weeks most beautiful little town that’s where you should go
Hope you guys are well. Love WVa but I would want to be closer to family. Thinking North GA or SW NC would be a better fit. Also you could draw off of the ATL for the Air B&B traffic. Almost Heaven 🩷
Buddies don't do that to buddies ...buddy😮..jokes congrats guys ..again!
Walton's mountain is a nice area
Jordan, as long as you stay away from Florida, everything else is cool. We are about to sink in traffic.
I would have clicked even faster if I had known I would see rock climbing too.

Major price drop?😮
Better option is to buy on the potential. Lot of money is sitting ready to get into the real estate. Interest rates are probably not going to move significantly in the coming years. 1 maybe 2 points.
Awesome video of our neighboring state. By now you’ve probably researched “Bridge Day” in Fayetteville annually in the fall. Check it out 👍.
If you don’t care about the air your kids breathe or the water they drink or the poor education they’ll get, then sure, it looks great.
Not every part of WV is coal country...
@@tyme5Do the air and water stay in “coal country”?
The answer is no. We're full.
Come back to the Bryson city area!!!!!!!!
Be very careful of the Appalachian Mountains cause there r lots of Feral People and there not good!!!
The Appalachian range runs from Alabama to New York. Bad people are everywhere including your area.
I have been surfing 55 years, my wife said it's OK to stop doing dangerous sports.
If you want inexpensive, this is the least expensive place you've visited, but........
you need to visit the western states.
West Virginia is beautiful. It is a shame what has happened there. They are good hard working people. It is embarrassing how we have neglected these great Americans
God's country...is that why Osso had the middle name of Jesus? ;). The views are so awesome! Imagine waking up looking at that every morning.
No, can't believe you're not going to live near or on the coast.
If I were you, I would leave America and live in China, Vietnam, or Southeast Asia. Life is better, cheaper, and more relaxed there than it will ever be in the States.

Are you getting any interest in Atticus 2.
I’ve been watching your videos for about a year, (and back episodes). Gonna tell you every place you are thinking of isn’t a good Air B&B place. Maybe as a tax write off, but money making? Probably not. Good luck..
Yeah, I knew a guy that started working in the coal mine he got out what a dangerous, problematic way to Make a living
No. Not WV. Utilities, food, too high. Unwelcoming people. I can hear the theme song from “Deliverance”. Alabama. S Carolina.
Probably not the best choice if you are interested in quality health care for your pregnant wife, or quality education for your children.
👍👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍
NOPE!
To scary for me to do
Not trying to be political here but please consider the bodily autonomy your daughter will grow up with and the level of education and culture she will be exposed to. Also most Republican lead states tend to be the least caring about their citizens.

Not a realtor..just followers of your family..we follow another family who farm and have a store in Romney.
You'd never fit in. You are educated, don't depend on Government assistance to eat, and most important, were NOT related BEFORE marriage.
