You were very close to Diamond Missouri where the U.S. Parks service maintains the boyhood home of George Washington Carver one of the greatest scientist and man of God this country has ever been blessed with.
Every time I mention that park, I can't say anything other than.... George Washington Carver National Park. I haven't been there for awhile (2005), but I do know they had built a new building and added quite a lot. We went once around Halloween, but it was too cold to do the scheduled walk. They told ghost stories and surprisingly enough, not only did I scream at one point, but my dad did too. :)
As a former travel nurse, there were times where thanks to road construction I had to take a detour and drive through many of these small towns that you go through on your videos. There's nothing like seeing a small town and seeing parts of America that normally go unseen. Brings back a lot of memories to watch your videos! Keep up the great content!
Oh, you missed the marker in Southwest City, Missouri where you would have been standing in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma at the same time. If you ever go back through Joplin, Missouri... look up a marker that's near, I believe, Downstream Casino... that one, you'll be standing in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas at the same time.
It’s right on the side of a road, very easy access! It’s one of those monuments where people keep putting the old monument on top of a newer bigger one so you get a wedding cake effect. :-)
I live just south of Cassville in Barry County, Missouri, just East of McDonald County where these towns are located. Thank you for taking everyone on an adventure!
You actually drove by a house I use to live in, over 15 years ago. The prices of land in McDonald County is getting expensive and I'm shocked at what they want for some of the places. Thank you for sharing... 💗😇🙏🏻
Me and my husband eloped almost 35 years ago and we ended up in Noel, Missouri. We ended up getting married in Noel and lived there for about 4 months. My husband worked in Southwest City, Missouri at the chicken plant. There was a theater in Anderson that we went to but I'm not sure if it is still there. We went back to Noel a couple of years ago. I forgot how scary those roads down to Noel can be. There are also caves that you can tour down there, beautiful area.
This county is growing because it boarders Benton County Arkansas, Walmart Headquarters I grew up in Jacket. Our fence was the McDonald County line and yes we were considered poor. We had a house, not much of one, but down the road was a large family that lived in a big army tent.
Yes it is cheaper to live in SW Missouri. Finding a house under $250K in NW Arkansas is becoming. impossible anymore. The natives there are being priced out of their own towns.
We live in Mo, we moved here a year ago, we live in the country in a very small town near the lake with woods all around our home. We love it here! Where we live reminds me of where I’m grew up in NC. We moved from Hays Kansas, I never liked Kansas, I’m so blessed to be here. I am originally from the blue ridge Mountain areas of NC where my family still lives. Thank you for your beautiful videos!
I knew someone who lived in Hays a spell. Brutally cold in the winter and out in the middle of nowhere for a town that size. All of Kansas is tornado prone.
Went to college in Hays. Loved it. General George Armstrong Custer was stationed at Fort Hays for a while. Town has thousands of residents with Volga German ancestry. One of my favorite towns.
They grow because of North West Arkansas demand for labor. Tyson also likes cheaper labor so these towns grow. I was in SW City yesterday . I can only imagine what this place looked like before urban sprawl. Brigham Young claimed the garden of Eden was right here so who knows. I bet it was beautiful. Thanks for the video.
Hi it's Saturday morning about 11a and I'm watching your show, you are in the s.w.part of Missouri. I lived in that area for over 20 years. I have a couple of questions for you, 1.when you were in Anderson why didn't you go on to Pineville county seat of Mcdonald co.2. When you were in Anderson if you made a couple of turns you would have found some really beautiful homes. 3.If you would have pulled into the parking lot of the post office, there is memorial for the man that played the minister in Little House on the Prarie. 4. Big Tyson chicken plant in Noel. Sorry I guess I made more comments than questions. Thank you.

There's almost always some variety of comments in the vein if "Why didn't you cover/see X, Y, and Z!" on the Joe & Nic's videos, but in-depth coverage of every attraction and bit of history isn't the point of their videos, and you can't expect everyone to know the special areas and historical trivia. Covering three towns in 18 minutes is necessarily going to be cursory.
I love your videos, it feels like I am sitting in the passenger seat with a friend who drives through these great and sometimes not so great places and gives me history and information about them. I feel a nice sense of calm and peace watching these, I love small town America, even though I am sitting here in Ireland! Great when you add the old photos as well.

Noel was an okay little town two years ago, revitalizing the downtown a bit, had a chain grocery store etc. Then the chicken plant which was the steady source of employment outside of summer river float trip organizers, bnb's and camping spots, folded up and left. The town is now barely a shadow of its former self. Those stats are outdated, the Harp's Grocery, the bank, the gas station, the arcade you passed, they all closed, and many people packed up to seek jobs elsewhere. Southwest City, on the other hand, is thriving, they have active community events, a food truck park, bank, market, gas station, city park, large feed store, meat processing place etc.
I’ve been to Noel and pineville a couple times before and it’s sad to see how much drug use is in the area, especially if you go into town at night, very sad to see the conditions people are living in.
Im from K.C in the Kansas side and love goin down there in Noel Missouri(13 mins south of Anderson) for family float trip in the elk river. It’s always packed with other floaters enjoying the river
NW Arkansas resident here. Took a day trip with my son to do some geocaching on New Years Day through these same three towns. Also stopped by those very same tracks in Anderson to take a video of a train going through town, and even visited the tri-state marker in Southwest City.
I live 15 miles south in AR of Noel. Noel has been hurt badly by loss of poultry company. SW City is small but better town due to a poultry processing plant going well. All the old KCS depots are gone, or used as museums and or public buildings. Like so many places 120+ years ago a lot of timber had been cut and today has regrown. Noel was a tourist town, small cabins, etc. Not so much now but does have camping and swimming in the river.
This was a very interesting video for me guys. I was born in Springfield many years ago, but knew little about this corner of the State. Presently living in S. Kansas City and will surely make a Sunday drive south soon! Love the motorcycle riding cat 😂
I've been feeling down all this week. Seeing a new video by you just made my day. Thank you so much for all you have shared with us over the years. Much appreciated.
Happy Caturday!!! So interesting how the first two towns are growing in population. (I either missed or it was not included about the population for South West.) And one-way streets in a small town??!! What could possibly be the reason? It's great to visit and get a glimpse of life in areas that one would seldom think of visiting. Hope you had a wonderful holiday season and got to take time off to enjoy being with your family and friends.
I lived in Anderson in 1993 for about eight months but most of the years I lived in northwest Arkansas until 2016. Looks like Anderson has not changed. It used to be all US 71 traffic had to pass thru Anderson until it was bypassed some years ago by I-49. Many who work in northwest Arkansas live in SW Missouri as it's much cheaper or costs less to build a home. Noel has seen much better days as its Tyson poultry plant closed last year. In 1989 its bank was robbed and its manager, Dan Short was murdered (the case was profiled on Forensic Files) Summer tourism keeps it afloat with canoe rentals. There are some nicer homes in Southwest City which also has a poultry plant that keeps many working but I don't think any make more than about $25K a year.
Thanks for an interesting video. I grew up in south central Missouri (live in Columbia MO now)...but confess I've rarely driven around this part of the state.
Thanks, Joe. I’ve lived in this area for several years…it holds many historic and mountainous stories for the locals. Much of a younger population is likely linked to the job opportunities, largely, the poultry industry and processing plants. With the major recreational attractions being nearby of primarily, Branson, MO the fishing and sporting lakes and all around beautiful scenery, I predict the population and real estate prices and lower COL, are a great growth opportunity and draw for a future of younger residents.
The places you go are giving me a chance to see where my ancestors have lived. Pierce City and Monolith MO. are all listed in the " the 12 pioneer families " of my family history.
Wow those overhanging mountainsides looked scary! 😅 Happy new year to both of you. Excited to see what you will show us in 2025. I love the smalltowns that are still doing well.
We moved to Anderson two years ago to homestead on 20 acres west of downtown. Benton County in NW Arkansas has exploded both in population and the price of real estate, so people are starting to buy affordable homes and land here. It' just 45 minutes drive to the airport and downtown Bentonville (Walmart HQ).
I've watched many of your videos in the last few years. So interesting to see America at it's best and worst but always a critically honest and factual review. Thanks and Happy new year to you both!
To have at least two of the three towns covered with their current peak population , lower crime rate and a younger population there must be an employer in the area that offers good jobs . This I recall was quite different than the vid Joe did in the boot ( southeast corner of MO ] a couple of years ago where there was abandoned river farm land . Happy Trails ! Keep the good stuff coming .
The average pay of people in Missouri is $15.00 an hour. Meat processing and a couple of large corporations supply jobs to the areas. Although as a quality of life index, Missouri ranks very low except for air quality. I don't know what social factors give it such a low quality of life.
The higher percentage of islander population I believe are folks from the Marshall Islands. In the latest census, the highest concentration of people from that area reside in NW Arkansas...assuming some are in SW Missouri as well.

Wow those overhanging mountainsides looked scary! 😅 Happy new year to both of you. Excited to see what you will show us in 2025. I love the smalltowns that are still doing well.
It is a real ride to drive a big truck down that road. 13"6" trailer makes you hold your breath. But it is 13'11".
Thanks, Mark!!
Joe, I am a fan of your videos., its like sitting in my home here in the suburbs of Atlanta and driving to the rural routes of America by myself.,
I would love to visit South West City!
Nice, just made myself a tea and sat down to chill. This is perfect for that👍❤
So did I 😊
Your Steady Cam work is amazing! good job.
Thanks!
Noel! I liked Noel. Hat tip for knowing how to pronounce it. Thanks for that.
Air quality does make an enormous difference though. I spent some time Delhi and you couldn't pay me enough
Southwest Missouri has had an explosion of growth from California the past few years. A California home sale could finance a lot of stuff here.
Great video! Really interesting towns! I love the old photos, and the cat on the motorcycle is so cute! Thank you, Joe and Nic, and Happy New Year!🎉💚
Thank you, CL!
Dude....Tyson closed in Noel some time ago....devastated the Town
Ótimo video...
Happy New year everybody Joey keep on doing the great work even on 2025🎉🎉✨🎇
The higher percentage of islander population I believe are folks from the Marshall Islands. In the latest census, the highest concentration of people from that area reside in NW Arkansas...assuming some are in SW Missouri as well.
Because of chicken plants
It's a pleasure to see the state of Missouri, these places are all beautiful. It's there in Missouri that I heard about a town called Sikdmore
