2400 rpm, rated for 150hp constant use to 2000h tbo. Bike engines run at about 30hp when cruising and hit 10,000rpm. If you can the bike engine at 8,000+ rpm constantly its going to break well before 2000h. Plus for an aircraft add a gearbox to bring that 8,000rpm down to 2400 rpm where a prop is efficient and now you have another point of failure. A few People do put high rev engines though, search for yamaha superstol, there’s a guy that puts 300hp yamaha snowmobile engines on the superstol and has several takeoff and landing records. But he does a lot more maintenance then a standard engine.
@@purplepenguin43 Steve Henry is his name, Wild West Aircraft is his company, I believe he is a dealer for Just Aircraft, Highlander/Superstol. The engines are actually snowmobile engines, so they don't have the traditional motorcycle gearbox but they do have a gear reduction unit for the snowmobile drive clutch. I'm not positive, but I believe they eliminate that original one and install a deeper reduction one for the prop. Also, I thought Mr Henry said they were quite dependable. He is on you tube as well. I do get the ubiquity of a slow running, direct drive, big bore, engine though.
