    Excellent build using the newest addition to the Rotax line of engines. I was excited when the 914 (Andrew Morris corrected me and it was the 915 Is not the 914) came out and Trent Palmer installed his on the Freedom Fox. Sorry Trent but but you’re last years news. Love this Just STOL aircraft design, but I love what the Experimental Aircraft industry is bringing to the forefront and aircraft designs. Bryan with your Experimental Aircraft Channel you and Katie bring these new designs to us on a regular basis saving us the time of having to search for what’s new ?? Great job to you and Katie, so keep them coming and I’ll be here watching.

    It isn't "horizontally opposed". It's just an ordinary flat four. I know "opposed" sounds a lovely techy word much loved by those who have never studied engineering but opposed engines have pistons moving towards each other, in the same cylinder, forming the combustion chamber between the two crowns. Look up Napier Deltic and Fairbanks Morse, although there have been others.

    • @Mrsournotes
      @Mrsournotes 3 роки тому +2

      That’s interesting, wasn’t aware of that type of engine arrangement. My local FBO refers to horizontally opposed engines as related to all the common aircraft “flat” engines.

    • @mtiffee
      @mtiffee 3 роки тому +9

      “Horizontally opposed” is another way of saying flat engine. It’s so widely used interchangeably by pretty much everyone in the industry including Rotax that I’ve never known anyone to confuse them with “opposed piston” engines which you are describing.

    • @barrysnelson4404
      @barrysnelson4404 3 роки тому

      @@mtiffee Flat is already adequate to describe an engine that isn't in-line, "V", radial or rotary. " Horizontally opposed" has been used by many, as you say, but incorrectly and started with the likes of the peasants who presented "Top Gear" and similar channels who wanted to sound like they were really engineers. I am sure my words won't change things, as you say, but anyone who describes a simple flat engine as "horizontally opposed" is a self demonstrated know-nothing. No professionally qualified and chartered engineer would make the mistake. Garage mechanics might never have seen Deltic, or marine diesels so may be ignorant of what "opposition" means.
