I would like to know more about Emperor Matheus's past. His megalomaniacal behavior and belief that absolute power is the only thing that keeps the world running can demonstrate some trauma related to a lack of control over events in his life and perhaps envy towards some people in his life. Another thing that I realized about the Emperor, is the reason for his belief that the human being is imperfect and evil to be absolute. He believes that the human being has lost love, because people like Leon preferred to value their ambitions over their loved ones, and although it benefited the Empire, as we saw through the "Emperor of Light" part, he is completely impartial regarding his judgment of the human race due to his eyes being constantly closed, so, whether we belonged to the Empire or the rebellion, in the end, we would be just another despicable and corrupt human, the difference is that belonging to the Empire, you would not be exterminated because you were needed as a soldier. Wait WHAT!? Final Fantasy 4 is set 17 years after Final Fantasy 2...yet you had everyone from 2 be Descended from 4. Shouldnt it be on the inverse. But I think your theory did make sense otherwise.
There's a big issue with this theory: In FF2, Kain is NOT the son of Ricard (Kain's father actually died before the events of FF2), while FF4 states Kain had a father called Ricard. This makes quite clear the games are completely unrelated (though I wish it would have been).

He kind of just... _did._ Either the thrones were empty, or we're to believe his genius was that great. Or it was all smoke and mirrors. I think there's a novelization that says Satan was in the mortal world when the Emperor died, but that only explains hell.
I'm still confused. Why did they refuse eternal life? There was no evil left in the Light Emperor. Nothing stopping them from watching over their world from heaven.
The Light Emperor actually was being sarcastic what he was saying and all the souls of Minwu's friends and family on Earth know it. As Minwu said, they died so that the people on Earth may live. Minwu's party had to look what was on the inside of the Light Emperor and it turns out that he was playing god all along.
So, if I'm understanding this right, they just refused in order to completely destroy Mateus's soul as opposed to risking a future attack from Arruboth. Am I close?
I know this is a year late but I think one of the reason why Minwu and the others refused Emperor's offer is because of his hypocrisy. It might not be obvious to some because you have to talk to the town people before you enter Arruboth to understand why. But basically the Emperor selfishly forces his "repentance" and plead forgiveness from victims by directing them to Raqia, and many did not make it because the pathway is filled with vicious monsters. What he did is to only satisfy his "guilt", never realized that what he did caused more suffering for the victims.
lol wut? Their living friends and family encouraged them not to be tricked plus the fact that there was an already existing heavenly palace /plus/ a hierarchy for angels to even fall from as well as attacking the party after they refuse (and promising them eternal suffering to boot) pretty clearly indicates that the Light Emperor is just as evil as his Dark Half and also killed God to take over Heaven to boot like how his Dark half killed Satan to take over hell. Either that or "Arruboth" is just another area of Pandamonium and he was tricking them.

What's with all the FF2 and FF4 theory in the comments. They are unrelated. Most likely references,Easter eggs or names borrowed from past games. Example is Garland from FFIX which is unrelated to FF1 Garland or shinra from X-2 implying that FFX is connected to FFVII but there are a lot of holes in that theory. Gilgamesh from FFXV is unrelated to the Gilgamesh we all know who travels and collecting weapons from other final fantasy worlds. Theorys are just theorys and most of them are all inaccurate.
Midian aka Jeremy I agree thy can’t be connected. Kain from FF4 was 21 years old meaning that if true this war would have been removed from the history books in about 15 years.

Yeah, yeah...everyone tries to make the Emperor look like a big deal. Well, nuts to that I say. He got killed by four guys that were already dead...that HE killed, to boot! Plus...why does killing him in the original game have any impact at all? He's already in Hell, so...wouldn't he just, like, respawn in the same spot?
I guess the crystals make them disappear. I don't believe they are immortal beings in the underworld. But yeah, I must admit the final fight was disappointing due to the fact you could kill the boss with 2 Ultima spells...
If memory serves me right, in the event before Jade Passage, the Underworld Mateus had become so powerful upon defeating the Underworld lord (it's mentioned in the novel, I think?) that he even came out of the Underworld, a feat very few in myths were capable of doing alone. But yeah, the game's evolution system kinda broke the boss fight.
@@lumineon. Ultima in FF2 is extremely redundant spell. To properly master Ultima, you have to master all weaponry and magic at high level, and when you achieve that, it would be a waste of MP to use Ultima.

After watching the latest "FF" today, I had to return here. And it is as I suspected. The thing is, "FF 2" and "FF: Tactics" were also based on "Game of Thrones" (or at least it was similar to the point the fandom makes constant comparisons between the show and the two "FFs"). This game doesn't feel right. It feels like a reboot/copy paste of sorts of both games. Olivier for example is an inferior copy of Emperor Matheus. Because the Emperor was actually a fascinating character to study. With Olivier, we only got a puppet to look at until Ultima shows up. Where's the fun in that ? And the political conflict ? "Tactics" handled it better. Dycedarg for example was a sick strayegist. Clive and Joshua's mother is simply a Karen like most people pointed out. Nothing special that makes her a fantasy level villain. I might as well have watched some soap opera if all she was gonna be was a toxic housewife/mother figure.
That's why square enix will not going to remake this game, they know they just recycle their story and remake it as new to their brainless fans People who realize mostly already move to other game brand including me Edit: I'm die hard ff fans from 17yo 2006 to 2017, rip this series future is just recycle the story of their old game
@@spy_balloon finally ! Someone who understands ! I swear to you, so far I keep finding every single excuse to justify this game: "Cut them some slack, it's hard to come up with games based on nothing." - Isn't the whole point of the entertainment industry try to innovate as much as possible, especially on a saga like "FF" ? The only positive thing I find about 16 is that it helped me give "Strange of Paradise" a second chance. To see it for the flawed yet fun and fascinating "FF" it was; "Wake up Junior, life isn't all rainbows." - Except the whole point of the saga is to balance the hope of fantasy with the cynicism of life, but this game feels too much like a revenge tale only. Like, everyone keeps losing everything, which wouldn't be a problem, if this was a saga about loss, when it isn't. Even "2 and Tactics" managed to find some hope amidst all those tragedies, because not everyone was seeking revenge, and not everyone kept losing one thing after another. Some sought to protect. Some sought justice. In short, the characters were VERY different from each other, and yet they were together in the same story. What were the excuses you heard ?

+Jose Osorio No bud, a descendant is someone who has descended from someone. XD He has the right terminology.
The only proof about that is maybe Kain
Timmy Menard Kain is Ricard's son. So you're 20% right..
There's a big issue with this theory:
In FF2, Kain is NOT the son of Ricard (Kain's father actually died before the events of FF2), while FF4 states Kain had a father called Ricard.
This makes quite clear the games are completely unrelated (though I wish it would have been).
Geez, I have to try this game again... I somewhat enjoyed grinding for eternity but when I got to SoR I had several difficulties, just because I haven't looked for Blood Sword.
What level would you suggest is good as a minimum? I came here to watch the ending because I don't really want to spend months grinding and NOT going through a long story as distraction just to get Lvl60 and be able to possibly beat this guy.
@@Roadent1241 There's no level system, so I'd recommend to give Blood Sword to Ricard in the main game. This way, you can easily defeat Ultima Weapon. After that you'll get an Ultima only Minwu can learn and doesn't need all weapons/spells to be at level 16.
@@Dennis-rc1fh There is a level system from what I'm seeing (GBA vers), and I'm not really willing to restart just to give Ricard a sword, but if I ever re-binge FF again I'll try and remember, I'm just moving onto III right now, thanks.

Buff spells are way stronger when used on single target, rather than the whole team. You can easily break the game if you focus on one or two powerhouses with the rest acting as support.
Does nobody else notice Kain? Like, are you sure that FF IV is not an indirect sequel to FF II? because friggen Kain
Kelyx614 I thought so too
No kidding

Deep philosophical stuff
If FFIV was an indirect sequel to FFII, then how was the Kingdom of Baron created? Where is Palamencia, did it disappeared?
Every main FF is set in a different world, the Kain of FF4 is a reference to the Kain of FF2, nothing more

Did they ever explain how Emperor Mateus took over both Heaven and Hell? xD
He kind of just... _did._ Either the thrones were empty, or we're to believe his genius was that great. Or it was all smoke and mirrors.

If Square remakes this game by making leveling system like FF7, that'd be wonderful. Story is good. Leveling system is garbage in FF2 .

The level system is great.
Wait Kain from FF4 is the son of Ricard? Dayum
should have indulged leon's fantasy of ruling the empire.
Am I close?
Yes. They wanted to destroy Mateus' soul completely as opposed to risking a future attack from Arruboth.
How come I never knew of this part of ff2? Probably need to so some searching.

Ff 9 has garland too
Midian aka Jeremy I agree thy can’t be connected. Kain from FF4 was 21 years old meaning that if true this war would have been removed from the history books in about 15 years.
They think this probably because IV came out as "Final Fantasy II" on US.
So that's what Ultima 16 looks like.
in some versions, you have hilda in your party
Wait what?
Bullshit
GBA version? PS1 version? Famicom original?
Yeah and in crash bandicoot 3 you can do cheat and you can fly around the world

This game might suck but the music is really nice.
Yeah but this ff2 is deep philosophy characters which mean I really like ff2, only I don't like ff3, ff4 and ff7 because bullshit power of friends nonsense
Opinion: I absolutely don't like ff7 for reasons such idiot plot hole nonsense, tifa and aerith make fanbase such thirsty coomer, fanbase also really like cloud, sephiroth and zack having gay heterosexual whatsoever
i gotta get this version....
Emperor is better than clown Kefka.
@@LOKBLUDOM3N and Exdeath is better than both of them
@@lumineon. Ultima in FF2 is extremely redundant spell. To properly master Ultima, you have to master all weaponry and magic at high level, and when you achieve that, it would be a waste of MP to use Ultima.

Worst spell of the game
That's why square enix will not going to remake this game, they know they just recycle their story and remake it as new to their brainless fans
People who realize mostly already move to other game brand including me
Edit: I'm die hard ff fans from 17yo 2006 to 2017, rip this series future is just recycle the story of their old game
@@spy_balloon finally ! Someone who understands ! I swear to you, so far I keep finding every single excuse to justify this game:
"Cut them some slack, it's hard to come up with games based on nothing." - Isn't the whole point of the entertainment industry try to innovate as much as possible, especially on a saga like "FF" ? The only positive thing I find about 16 is that it helped me give "Strange of Paradise" a second chance. To see it for the flawed yet fun and fascinating "FF" it was;
"Wake up Junior, life isn't all rainbows." - Except the whole point of the saga is to balance the hope of fantasy with the cynicism of life, but this game feels too much like a revenge tale only.

How in the hell did Starfall only do that lil amount of damage !!?? This game is too damn easy
Yeah but too hard if you don't played (like me)
1: the enemies are strong and you can only stand a chance later in the game ( in fynn you undestand)
2: enemies are super tankier if you know his weakness
3: boss early in the game is harder but after it becomes to easy
Because Starfall multi targets and is an enemy only spell. If you do a solo run and don't set up shell and such it does 2000+ damage
