Espetacular!
10 years of hard work! To preserve great music. Respect. Mr. Cardin I salute you, sir.
This is most important thing, has happened on UA-cam for me!
Because almost all of Weiss Music was removed from UA-cam.
I am just speechless!
Unbelievable, Silvius is there again!
I will never forget it!
Thank you Brilliant Classic for sharing this Music on UA-cam. 🌹🌹🌹🇮🇷🌹🌹🌹
when and why was it removed....thanks for reply
@@rsjmd Robert Barto and other Lute Player have also played this Music and there were on UA-cam. Ten years ago there were more than ten CD'S on UA-cam. I don't know, why are they deleted. Now there is just one CD from Barto and some Single Songs, but this is a very fine Job from Michel Cardin to record this Music. I think he played it better, because he played the Gigues and Fugues basically slower than others.
Barto was masterful. ☆
Du hast mich so oft abgeholt.
Silvius Leopold Weiss was a baroque composer and interpreter of lute music. He was a contemporary of JS Bach and they knew each other. According to wikipedia they even played together. Weiss was respected as the most renowned lute player in Germany but he did not publish his compositions in printed form. The present recording is the recollection of Weiss manuscript lute music. He was known and respected by the Scarlatti (Alessandro and Domenico, who probably taught Weiss composition and keyboard music. Thanks Brilliant Classics for this important uploading.
Weiss was the court lutenist to the King of Saxony, and he actually sought J.S. Bach out after reading some of Bach's scores. He traveled to meet him, bearing a letter of introduction from one of Bach's cousins. I did not know of Weiss's connection to Scarlatti.
@@jimmydonlon6762 Thanks for your comment. I may have been wrong in naming Domenico Scarlatti, but I was right in mentioning Alessandro Scarlatti. From 1708 to 1714 there is evidence that Weiss spent this period in Rome and met Alessandro Scarlatti, who according to chronicles "convinced Weiss to convert from Protestantism to catholicism". There is also mention that Weiss studied new composition techniques while in Rome. Being Weiss a very famous musician, it is reasonable to assume they shared musical experiences. I could not find the source I used first, it could have been Gardiner's book Bach by I am not sure. The sources I used now were basically arrived at using Google. There is also convincing evidence of the friendship that developed between Bach and Weiss and their mutual musical influence.
@@mycatsregalones ;Many thanks for these informed responses. Weiss was an important musician and deserves being better known.
Absolutely beautiful!

MICHEL CARDIN,
and BRILLIANT CLASSICS
thanks for sharing...
How beautiful! The music of Weiss is exquisite, ethereal and deep at the same time, and Michel Cardin is an outstanding interpreter. Thank you!
💕Brilliant classics 💕
Weiss is a giant composer. That's all...!...Thanks for uploading.
Thank you Brilliant Classics🙏🏽
Excellent playing on a hopelessly difficult instrument, balanced interpretation of absolute music (not Segovia flamenco style) time-less and the characteristically long music lines of Weiss, flawlessly counterpointed, unexpected turns (not predictable like Bach). What can I say?
His suite n°2 in D major, played in baroque tuning, is the quintessence of "serene" music. I could listen to this indefinitely whilst laying in a hamac surrounded by cicadas in the Alpilles... (small mountains near Avignon, France)
I'll bring the drinks.
Silvius Leopold Weiss: * 12. Oktober 1687 in Grottkau; † 16. Oktober 1750 in Dresden
I am glad that passion for music is still intact in this self centered world. Amazing work and thanks for this thankless job!
We will keep working hard at it as long as people enjot listening to it!
Amazing! The first part of a collection involving more than 12 hours of Weiss' works. Essential for any lute or baroque aficionado. I look forward to the next parts! As the saying goes: "Es soll nur Sylvius die Laute spielen"
Exactly!

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

i fuly agree!
Many thanks, Weiss is sooooooo good.
I Love this music,now, ist's Brilliant.
Thank you Brilliant Classics & Michel Cardin for these beautiful recordings. Highly appreciated.
Je l'écoute en boucle et je ne m'en lasse pas. Parfait pour travailler, se détendre, se concentrer! Excellentes vibrations, douces, calmes, et équilibrées! A ne pas rater!
This girl is actually not drawn alone!!!! A cheerful young man in a tailcoat is sitting nearby.
Which painting is it? I.e. what's its name and who's the artist?
Just when I thought I knew every Classical Composer , you come up with one more for me to enjoy. What outstanding Music, Thank you once again.
I have heard a few recordings of these works, and this one strikes me as being the most expressive. The performer plays a phenomenal instrument, and the recording has just the right amount of ambience. Thank you!
This is beautifull, listening has given me a new interst in the lute
What a beauty! I love the music, the interpretation and the sound of the particular instrument chosen by Michel Cardin, so rich, juicy and full. Just charming, a pure æsthetic pleasure. Thank you so much Brilliant Classics!
Giuseppe Maria Crespi (Italian (Bolognese), 1665-1747) - Woman Tuning a Lute.
an absolute Perfection...
Hearing this transcendent (almost ethereal) kind of music is truly a Gift from Providence reminding us that (with all due respect to Aristotle) Man is a lot more than just a (sonetimses) "Rational Animal.." Furthermore, it is likely to be as close to Perfection that we will get as long as each of us is encased in what The Bard referred to as our "mortal coil, tethered to this Big Rock in Space that we call Earth.
To my out-of-fashion way of thinking, composers such as Silvius Weiss, Johann Sebastian Bach, Alessandro Scarlatti, Dietrich Buxtehude, Purcell, Palestrina, Monteverdi and a few others had an uncredited co-writer when they composed this heavenly music, namely, The Holy Spirit.
Amazing!
didn´t know about Weiss....happy to dive into his beauty!
Excellent music....i liked it so much. Thanks for uploading.
¡Cuánta exquisitez y belleza! Indescriptible poder calificar algo tan bonito.
Lovely, Thank you!
Good music.
Absolute gorgeousity!

thanks~

Thanks, BC! But strange that the Sarabande and Menuets I & 2 of the Sonata (Suite) No. 3 are not there... They are on the original CD by Michel Cardin (SNE-596-CD). Are they on the actual («physical») CD? I would want to know before buying the box set...

COOL
I would have loved more without the ancient guitar, which renders a choked sound.
It is not a guitar, it is a lute.
@@elinathanferlay1013 you 're right and lute has even a choker sound. Mc Grath play it on 13strings guitar and it is another dimension.
