- Welcme back to another episode of the Rock Fantasy Files as Stephen Keeler returns as your co host with Denis Barthe to chat on Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. As we present part two of The Rock Fantasy Files mini series on the two greats . Tonight we discuss and compare 'Screaming For Vengeance" , "The Number Of The Beast" , "Stained Class" & "Piece Of Mind" . We also ask the question ? Who has the better guitar duo. and who do like better Bruce or Rob on vocals .
I lucked out. After hearing both albums in summer '82 I got to see both at Madison Square Garden in October of '82.
In '82 I had Number ahead of Screaming. Today it is reversed. These 2 albums were my intro into metal in summer of '82. Both are so damn good, glad I was there to witness it in real time.
Anyone who doesn’t like “Fever” I don’t take their musical opinions seriously. That song rules! And Stained Class is one of my all time favorite albums so that wins for sure.

The parents of those 2 kids need to have the song who's to blame by sacred reich played over and over till the understand the meaning of their lyrics

Hard choice. I love the bass and drums on Beast, but I love the overall sound on Vengeance. There's a few songs like Fever that I think are weak, and don't hold up to anything on Beast.
Judas Priest for me, all the way. The first 5 Maiden albums are great, but after that they just started getting a little too commercial sounding for me. Priest continued to be a great metal band, although they did have a few serious clunkers (Turbo, Nostradamus, Point of Entry). The last 2 Priest albums are bad ass, but Iron Maiden is boring, old man rock now.
Maiden is greater there is no debate, they are a much bigger band ...ans bruce stood up to Darth Hideous and Ozzy

Priest '78-'82 can't really be topped. Maiden was better in the 80's though.

it is easily toppped their best stuff came after that, and 80's Maiden is better
Judas Priest worst stuff came out after '82....much worse stuff.
Bruce Dickinson by a mile, The Number of the Beast over Screaming for Vengeance and Stained Class over Piece of Mind for me.

I’m a bit biased as Maiden is my favorite band, but Number of the Beast and Screaming for Vengeance are very close.
Piece of Mind is miles better than Stained Class however. I’ve always felt that Stained Class is criminally overrated. The guitars, drums, and even Halford’s voice are very thin and weak sounding. Song wise, I only really like Exciter and Beyond the Realms of Death. I never understood the praise for that album. 80s Priest destroys 70s Priest for me.
Piece of Mind is the correct answer, and Bruce is greater than Rob
Stained Class just sounds weak. Exciter starts out hard..then the smooth gentle jazz drums kick in with Rob's theatrical soprano voice.

OMFG...Maiden versus Priest ? Are we in war.? You cannot compare bands, singers etc.....thats such an needless crap...there is no "BETTER"..The Best...grow up, kids.
I love Maiden since 1985...and i like Priest.....have a nice one..... METAL UP YOUR ASS & UP THE IRONS 666
