But rather than singling out any factors, they’re famous because they got the whole package PLUS fan interaction. We promoted them because they treated us more than fans. This idol-fan relationship is beyond anything I’ve seen so ofc we would promote them everywhere like it was our JOB. The fandom KNEW they were under appreciated back then that’s why we worked so hard. Social media is a factor in this because obviously that’s where they would connect with us. Because of such fan labor they got a BBMA which exposes them to the general public. The gp public fell in love w BTS like we did and became part of the fandom because of BTS’s talent and being extremely relatable in their music, words, action, and showing us their vulnerable and true side. They got big because of Army sharing their talent. Social media is the only reason they are as big as they are now. We would not have heard of them without it. Don’t diminish a huge part of their story and struggle just to embellish their strides to fame. They would agree with me by the way. They credit us all the time and how they would have nothing without us sharing and shedding light on their passions. We break records for them and make sure the world knows who they are. Yes they are bloody hardworking and talented but I don't think there's something wrong with acknowledging the fact that it played a big role on their popularity and success. Went to their concert in Texas in September...the energy was so lit..ARMYs were so loud you can’t hear for days..the tickets sold out in less than 20minutes..we were on the ticket site one hour before..registered the day before ticket sale using a computer..iPad..a tablet and cell phone at the same time..no luck..bought 2tickets on resale site for 900 dollars...some fans paid that for one ticket..the concert was worth every penny..I have never been to a concert like that in my life and I have been to plenty..they actually sing..dance..play and interact with their fans for 2hours with no intermissions..the fan chats and Army bombs(those light things) they are not free..you buy them..the ARMYs were all ages.races..genders..religions.social status...we saw You Tube reactors there..and Matthew Machauhey..problem misspelled..but the actor..everybody was so friendly...you would never ever see a concert here in America like that..no female dancers..no special guest..no,lipsync..just them..ARMYs are in over 114 countries and the most powerful fan base in the world because we love BTS...they teach us to love ourselves and be tolerant of others....their songs are about beating depression...anxiety..abuse..bullying...self hate..women issues..and more...things no other artists want to sing about..that is why ARMYs are so protective and passionate about BTS..they are also down with the LGBT community..how many artists will own up to that..BTS is of the universe and the new generations of standing up for what’s right..😊💜👍🏽🇺🇸🦋

Their songs don’t contain English to appeal to English Speaking fans. The modern korean language is full of a lot of English words to the point that it’s almost impossible for a young korean person to speak without any English or “Konglish” words. So English in lyrics is not something out of the ordinary for them. This shows even before they had a big Western following, you can look back at their old lyrics as it has a lot of English words. I was a fan of J-Pop (Japanese Pop - which is definitely not as popular as K-Pop, meaning, they definitely aren't appealing to a Western market) since 2000 and they always had English words in their songs, same as K-Pop - WAY before the Western world was even seen as a viable market for them. This is simply because English is the dominant international language - and in Japan and Korea, kids are actually taught basic English in schools - it's in their curriculum. So most Japanese and Korean people actually know basic English words (they all read English A LOT better than you'd think - they just have trouble listening/speaking because of differing accents). They then incorporate their knowledge of English into their songs - because it just sounds/flows better, or, it's a form of "cheating" (eg., if a line doesn't sound that good in Korean, like the end word doesn't rhyme etc., they will make it an English line - because the average Japanese/Korean person can understand it, anyway). That's it. English is just a part of their world. It really isn't about appealing to the Western world - that's a very Western perspective you have there. ;)

A lot of English speakers especially Americans do not know that English is taught in every Country and in Europe in Germany it's the same we mix German and English all the time. We have to learn English and another Language for University. Germans are known for their good English. USA is one of the most Monolingual Country another is Australia but in Europe almost everyone is at least Bilingual. If your Parents are Foreigners like mine you learn that Language + German + English and another Language Spanish or French for University. The funny thing is that Germans say German is harder for them than English because German is hard even for Germans. Many People hold lectures in English because it's a International Language.
Their debut song No More Dream released in 2013 had English lyrics in it. East Asian countries often has English has the 2nd language after our mother tongue. Unlike America, multilingual educated Asians are the norm. I agree that some recent Kpop bands are using English to try to break into the US, but that is a very Western-centric mindset to believe that BTS are trying to appeal to westerners with English words.
Loved your reaction but a couple of things: 1. BTS stands for BangTan Sonyeondan/방탄소년단 or Bulletproof BoyScouts. Beyond the Scene was created by fans and caught on but officially it's Bulletproof BoyScouts. 2. They may look like they have a lot of energy, but these boys work themselves to the point of exhaustion. Watch backstage stuff or fancams and you'll see some members collapsing backstage or having to be carried by stage crew. It almost breaks your heart seeing the smiles they put on on stage only to be physically and mentally exhausted. They even admitted that they almost disbanded last year due to the stress and pressures. Thank goodness they didn't, but these boys need a break. 3. Idol is all Korean clothes, dances, and chants with the exception of the one dance move: gwara gwara. They have been heavily criticized for becoming too westernized and for forgetting their Korean heritage. So what did BTS do? Release a song with ancient war chants (ursoo jota/얼쑤 좋다 and jiwaja jota/지화자 좋다), dress up in traditional Korean clothes (Hanbok/한복), include their traditional Lion/Dragon dance, and so traditional Korean dance moves like the hat spinning dance. 4. It's been said in the comments before but social media didn't have anything to do with them gaining popularity or fans. It helped spread awareness about them, sure..... but it's their hard work, dedication, communication with the fans, their absolute heart melting love for us fans (ARMY), their complete transparency, and their sheer talent that gained them fans. We Stan hardworking, loving boys! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 And you friend on the left was totally right about them all getting time in the spot light. The members themselves tell fans to love all 7. There's 7 members and BTS could not be without even one of them. 😊

Beyond the Scene was created by the management..it was their English name..they made that bcoz they are famous worldwide and they keep asking what BTS stands for..and they can't understand the Bangtan Sonyeondan..and Beyond the Scene fits them really well if you compare how successful they are right now...

The others were live. In english BTS means bulletproof boys in korean its pronounced as Bangtan Soyeondan, Beyond The Scene is just a subsidiary.

I think people mistake what someone means when they say that BTS made it big because of social media. Obviously BTS works hard and has crazy talent, but they've been showcasing that since their debut. Social media was the main reason how they blew up. *It's how they became known* not the full reason why they're popular. There's a slight difference if you get what I mean. You can work hard, but if no one knows you then your hard work essentially does nothing.
Was searching through the comments wondering if I was gonna have to be the one to write it..but you said it :) It confuses me when people get so defensive and argue that it wasn't social media but just hard work and talent. Every trainee, every idol spends years putting in hard work and they are all talented (yes, to different degrees, but all put in hard work and have talent)...social media and their way of putting out so much content directly to the fans is definitely a major factor in how they blew up - like you said

Very true. I've always wondered why BTS was so much more popular even though their talents and such were similar to other groups. I think social media spread BTS's popularity across America (and of course other countries), which means they become a lot of people's first ever kpop group. Once people get to know BTS' messages and how cool they are, they become more popular over the internet leading them to strive a lot more and be a lit more known than other groups. That's my guess.

I have met fans well into their 60's 🙂 Oh, and good luck on being given tickets. They sell faster than you can turn around. And if you don't manage to get one when regular ticket sales starts, then prepare to empty your wallet if you really want to see them. My daughter and I travelled from Norway to London to see them. Let's just say we REALLY wanted to see them. So, 700$ for two tickets. I would do it again!! 💜

Let social media have its part in their story cause it deserves it.

Yes they are bloody hardworking and talented but I don't think there's something wrong with acknowledging the fact that it played a big role on their popularity and success. Went to their concert in Texas in September...the energy was so lit..ARMYs were so loud you can’t hear for days..the tickets sold out in less than 20minutes..we were on the ticket site one hour before..registered the day before ticket sale using a computer..iPad..a tablet and cell phone at the same time..no luck..bought 2tickets on resale site for 900 dollars...some fans paid that for one ticket..the concert was worth every penny..I have never been to a concert like that in my life and I have been to plenty..they actually sing..dance..play and interact with their fans for 2hours with no intermissions..the fan chats and Army bombs(those light things) they are not free..you buy them..the ARMYs were all ages.races..genders..religions.social status...we saw You Tube reactors there..and Matthew Machauhey..problem misspelled..but the actor..everybody was so friendly...you would never ever see a concert here in America like that..no female dancers..no special guest..no,lipsync..just them..ARMYs are in over 114 countries and the most powerful fan base in the world because we love BTS...they teach us to love ourselves and be tolerant of others....their songs are about beating depression...anxiety..abuse..bullying...self hate..women issues..and more...things no other artists want to sing about..that is why ARMYs are so protective and passionate about BTS..they are also down with the LGBT community..how many artists will own up to that..BTS is of the universe and the new generations of standing up for what’s right..😊💜👍🏽🇺🇸🦋

Their songs don’t contain English to appeal to English Speaking fans. The modern korean language is full of a lot of English words to the point that it’s almost impossible for a young korean person to speak without any English or “Konglish” words. So English in lyrics is not something out of the ordinary for them. This shows even before they had a big Western following, you can look back at their old lyrics as it has a lot of English words. *Edit** People are confusing Kpop appealing to Western audiences with Kpop using a few English lyrics to appeal to Western audiences. It’s no secret that some Kpop groups intend to break into the Western market and try to appeal to their audience. But using a few English words in their songs isn’t part of the process. As I’ve portrayed before, English is INTEGRATED into their language so saying Kpop groups using a few English words in their songs for the sole reason of appealing to the West is very ignorant. Yes, they appeal to western audiences, but they don’t do it by singing ‘save me, save me’ multiple times. If they thought those two words would attract the West, that would be stupid tbh.

I was a fan of J-Pop (Japanese Pop - which is definitely not as popular as K-Pop, meaning, they definitely aren't appealing to a Western market) since 2000 and they always had English words in their songs, same as K-Pop - WAY before the Western world was even seen as a viable market for them. This is simply because English is the dominant international language - and in Japan and Korea, kids are actually taught basic English in schools - it's in their curriculum. So most Japanese and Korean people actually know basic English words (they all read English A LOT better than you'd think - they just have trouble listening/speaking because of differing accents). They then incorporate their knowledge of English into their songs - because it just sounds/flows better, or, it's a form of "cheating" (eg., if a line doesn't sound that good in Korean, like the end word doesn't rhyme etc., they will make it an English line - because the average Japanese/Korean person can understand it, anyway). That's it. English is just a part of their world. It really isn't about appealing to the Western world - that's a very Western perspective you have there. ;)

A lot of English speakers especially Americans do not know that English is taught in every Country and in Europe in Germany it's the same we mix German and English all the time. We have to learn English and another Language for University. Germans are known for their good English. USA is one of the most Monolingual Country another is Australia but in Europe almost everyone is at least Bilingual. If your Parents are Foreigners like mine you learn that Language + German + English and another Language Spanish or French for University. The funny thing is that Germans say German is harder for them than English because German is hard even for Germans. Many People hold lectures in English because it's a International Language.
Their debut song No More Dream released in 2013 had English lyrics in it. East Asian countries often has English has the 2nd language after our mother tongue. Unlike America, multilingual educated Asians are the norm. I agree that some recent Kpop bands are using English to try to break into the US, but that is a very Western-centric mindset to believe that BTS are trying to appeal to westerners with English words.

Loved your reaction but a couple of things:
1. BTS stands for BangTan Sonyeondan/방탄소년단 or Bulletproof BoyScouts. Beyond the Scene was created by fans and caught on but officially it's Bulletproof BoyScouts.
2. They may look like they have a lot of energy, but these boys work themselves to the point of exhaustion. Watch backstage stuff or fancams and you'll see some members collapsing backstage or having to be carried by stage crew. It almost breaks your heart seeing the smiles they put on on stage only to be physically and mentally exhausted. They even admitted that they almost disbanded last year due to the stress and pressures. Thank goodness they didn't, but these boys need a break.
3. Idol is all Korean clothes, dances, and chants with the exception of the one dance move: gwara gwara. They have been heavily criticized for becoming too westernized and for forgetting their Korean heritage. So what did BTS do? Release a song with ancient war chants (ursoo jota/얼쑤 좋다 and jiwaja jota/지화자 좋다), dress up in traditional Korean clothes (Hanbok/한복), include their traditional Lion/Dragon dance, and so traditional Korean dance moves like the hat spinning dance.
4. It's been said in the comments before but social media didn't have anything to do with them gaining popularity or fans. It helped spread awareness about them, sure..... but it's their hard work, dedication, communication with the fans, their absolute heart melting love for us fans (ARMY), their complete transparency, and their sheer talent that gained them fans. We Stan hardworking, loving boys! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
And you friend on the left was totally right about them all getting time in the spot light. The members themselves tell fans to love all 7. There's 7 members and BTS could not be without even one of them. 😊

I think people mistake what someone means when they say that BTS made it big because of social media. Obviously BTS works hard and has crazy talent, but they've been showcasing that since their debut. Social media was the main reason how they blew up. *It's how they became known* not the full reason why they're popular. There's a slight difference if you get what I mean. You can work hard, but if no one knows you then your hard work essentially does nothing.
Was searching through the comments wondering if I was gonna have to be the one to write it..but you said it :) It confuses me when people get so defensive and argue that it wasn't social media but just hard work and talent. Very true. I've always wondered why BTS was so much more popular even though their talents and such were similar to other groups. I think social media spread BTS's popularity across America (and of course other countries), which means they become a lot of people's first ever kpop group. Once people get to know BTS' messages and how cool they are, they become more popular over the internet leading them to strive a lot more and be a lit more known than other groups.

I have met fans well into their 60's 🙂 Oh, and good luck on being given tickets. They sell faster than you can turn around. And if you don't manage to get one when regular ticket sales starts, then prepare to empty your wallet if you really want to see them. My daughter and I travelled from Norway to London to see them. Let's just say we REALLY wanted to see them. So, 700$ for two tickets. I would do it again!! 💜
