It’s truly an honor to be amongst like-minded people that hear what I hear. I don’t have any personal friends to share this with. Dave Brubeck’s solo is priceless. He is swinging like mad. I also love what Eugene Wright is doing during his solo. It sounds so modern. Joe Morello is extremely innovative as well. And then there’s the obvious, Paul Desmond sounding like a dry martini on alto saxophone. This is an amazing performance. We are extremely fortunate to have this documented for all time.
Very eloquently put, and absolutely right. I don't mind it if there aren't personal friend to share certain things with. It's OK with me if they don't hear what I hear and feel. Can't change that, and there's no use trying to fight what can't be changed. It would be more fun if one can share it of course, but whatever we do, we always have to remain true to what we really like. People who love things because that makes them more popular, leads to more "friends" don't have a spine. So, if I'm the only sheep on the hill, enjoying the view, fine with me. If there are other sheep, even better. But I'll always aim for the hills with a view, come what may come ! Keep on making great discoveries. The friends still might show up, you never can tell, to quote another fine musician, Chuck Berry. Greetings from Belgium

It's been about two hours since I accidentally stumbled on this video (thank you, UA-cam algorithm, it was very generous of you!) . Since then, I watched it - hypnotized - about 10 times. I am still recovering. I don't think I will ever be quite the same again. This is ART of the whole different plateau and order of magnitude. And why is Dave Brubeck not mentioned in the same breath as Bud Powell, Sonny Clark, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans or Herbie Hancock? Can we have this monstrous historical injustice corrected, PLEASE?
I have to admit that, although I have long been a jazz fan, I was never particularly into Brubeck, but many of his pieces like Blue Rondo, Rising Sun, Bluette, Kathy’s Waltz, Far More Blue, Pickup Sticks and this are finally putting the hook in me. By the way the audio/visual quality here is astounding. Really great camera work. And the music was so great - it transported me to the Far East!

Jazz had always been something i imagined I'd "really get into" later in life. Well, in my mid 50s, I heard and saw this specific performance and the time had finally come. This one track just hit some sweet spot deep inside. I keep coming back to it and it feels like an old friend everytime I hear it - but somehow totally new as well? I guess that's the power and subtlety of the form, it's a living thing that finds you where you are at any given moment. I've since gone deep and wide with other seminal musicians and am thrilled by all the new discoveries.
I was lucky that my parents had Brubeck's Take Five LP, and public radio in my area ran jazz all day. I was rebelling against my brother's need to listen to hair bands and heavy metal at top volume. Luckily, some things age well and some don't. May you continue to enjoy jazz for the rest of your life. It can be wonderfully energetic, deeply tranquil and always has a unique spirit. Four decades on, it just doesn't get old.
How can you not be swept up by such solid structure, and fantastic improvisations on top of such a Heavy groove? If you can dig where that’s coming from.
I agree with all of the commentary but I am mesmerized by simple yet beautifully recorded piano. As someone who has design audio for a living, I can attest to how difficult it is to capture the essence and intricacy of the piano. Even through you tubes compression, it is obvious the piano is recorded excellently.
I'm barely getting into jazz, for some reason I feel so much in just a few seconds as soon as the music picks up , I think the older you get the more helpless life can feel and it's expectations, but knowing the feeling is mutual helps and alot of jazz I hear tends to have a somber darker tone, I love it

Why can't society as a whole be as inclusive as musicians, especially jazz musicians, have traditionally been? Race? HUMAN

@@jonasw3945 that could be right because Kotos are tuned to the Hirajoshi scale. Thanks!
