Well, this is brilliant. For 8 years I've been dealing with a self-swinging door that annoyed me on a daily basis. After watching this video, my problem was solved in 3 minutes. Thank you, David.
Clear and concise and not dragged out for 10 minutes. Thank you David! I’ve dealt with this stupid door opening for 6 months in my new apartment and it’s driving me crazy lol
Kind sir, you have my utmost respect and appreciation. I used this video to fix our door. Didn't work initially, but the pin did not have much of a bend. Went back to the garage, a few more hammerings, and now, the best non closing door on its own we have. THANK YOU
So glad to hear that, Patricia! Thanks for letting us all know, and I sure hope the folks who find this video so helpful will share it around so others can learn it also.
When I saw this I was like 'no way'. But it worked like a charm! Thank you sir! Just a note to those who try it. You have to bend it enough to actually see the bend pretty easily.
@@vwald I couldn't bend the pin with my everyday hammer either. So I got an iron mallet out and gave the pin a couple thumps with that, and it bent pretty easily to exactly the right curve. Try that!
10 years of 2 doors closing and I was told the same about taking out frame, shims, yada yada.... today both doors are fixed!! YES!!! Thank you so so much!
I’m glad I found you! Im going to try this . My daughter’s door recently started opening and closing whenever a breeze comes in when her window is open. I told my hubby about it, but we’re tired of waiting on him 😂 Plus, he’s working on a pretty big ‘Honey Do’ list for me as it is. I’m sure I can do this without bothering him. Thanks so much!
Hope it works as well for you as it has for me and for some others here in the comment section! If the breeze keeps moving the door, you might need to do more than one hinge pin, or figure something else out.
Same as last reviewer, watched a door swing shut for 6 years, Sat down, watched the video and had it fixed in 5 minutes, this is the kind of thing that is valuable on youtube. Very simple clear instructions.
Thank you David, you just turned what I thought would be a whole day job into 5 minutes. Worked great - your sharing of knowledge and tips is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for this excellent video, and for saving me lots of time and aggravation. I watched some other videos that entailed shimming the lower hinge to keep my door from swinging shut, and after trying to no avail for a few minutes, I adopted your approach, which worked great!
Unbelievable. I was putting up with a swinging door for 13 years. It wasn't annoying enough to look into at 27. At 40, different story lol. Fixed and thank you :)
Ha ha ha, and I know what you mean! Thanks for the report, and if you don't mind, how about sending this video on to others? It would help them and of course, my channel. Grin! Glad you got your door fixed. Stay healthy.
You are a genius! Thank you! I liked how simple and to the point your instructions are 😀 Awesome personality! I subscribed to your channel now. Thank you!!!!
Thanks so much for this, Sunil Jain. It seems more and more people are finding this little tip useful. Maybe if people could share it more, then UA-cam would recommend it more, and even more people could solve their door problems.
You might be thinking to yourself "I am being trolled by a grandpa on the internet to ruin my door", but this actually worked. Thanks David! Sincerely, lost college students.
You're welcome, Hunter. Just wanting to pass on some cool things I learned from old people when I was your age. Lots of wisdom in the experience of years.
I love old timers and their no nonsense fixes. My bathroom door started closing on it's own after oiling the hinges. I even adjusted the top hinge to make the door close perfectly. My problem still persisted, watched this video, bent the hinge, door now works as it should. Thank you David!
Genius...i was working on a door for 45 minutes and couldn't get it to stay open .i decided to go to UA-cam to see if anyone had a better idea and this was the first video to pop up.Wow! Repaired it 3 minutes ! Thank you !!
Concise and to the point. This is how to get views. Many of these videos want to jabber on for 10 minutes or more to give 3 minutes of information. I usually pass them up.
I'm right there with you. I saw a "um" and "ah" poking around video yesterday that was painful to watch. I try hard to not inflict that pain on viewers of MY vids. Take care.
Unbelievable! Bought my first house in November and we had two doors that did this. One closed itself and another opened. Fixed both in under 10 minutes and most of that time was spent finding my hammer.
Two doors, two fixes, thanks to you. Two minutes each. All my family who have been dealing with these doors for years thanks you! Posted video on Facebook. Hope you make a million dollars.
Big laugh of delight! Thanks so much for sharing this, and I must say I agree with your hope that I make a million bucks. But I'm not holding my breath. Grin! HOWEVER, more than making a million bucks, I'm even happier helping people solve a few problems or issues. Take care.
Thank you so much. Such a simple fix for such a frustrating issue! Next I’m going to search through your videos to see if you have a fox for a sticking door. Thank you!! Liked, subscribed and notifications on!
Hi, Mistieroze, and thanks for your comment. I don't have a video up yet about a sticking door, but I have fixed them in the past using a "Surform" plane, as on this page: amzn.to/3MNX1Ie Good luck.
Outstanding idea. For 12 years I have had a door that has done this. Did exactly as the video and gosh dang problem gone. Outstanding idea and demo. Wow !! Wife is happy and I look like a genius.
I wasn’t looking for this but yours is the 2nd video in as many days that randomly popped up in my suggested showing how to fix this problem. Decided I’d give it a try with the nursery door that has had this issue since we moved into our house 3 1/2 years ago and hey, what do you know, no more ghost door. Thank you! Meanwhile, I still have to trim the door so it stops hitting the head jamb, but that’s a project for another day. How in the world did the original owners of this 1974 built house not fix these issues themselves?!?!
I know what you mean, Nathan. Sometimes I wonder why *I* haven't already repaired some of the things I finally get to. But I'm glad this helped you fix THAT item. Now, as for the door that binds in the head jamb, I fixed my similar problem using a rasp-plane. like one on this Amazon page: amzn.to/3aJyUcv. I simply dismounted the door by pulling the hinge pins, then planed down the door where it was binding. It took two sessions to get it right, but it hasn't been a problem since. (This was before I started this channel, or I could have made a video of THAT! 🤣)Take care.
My husband who has done finished carpentry in the past said this would not work. Well I did it by myself and it worked. So easy!!! Thanks so much for the tip and showing my husband, you can always learn something new :-)
Thanks for the video. I was about to look online to shop items to fix it, and your method did the trick. I had to bend the first two hinge pins for it to stay open. I think I'll do the bottom one for good measure as well.
Unbelievable!!!! It was opening by itself for years. Watched this video. Worked in two minutes on the first try. Don’t bend it too far. Just a little ! Thank You Sir !!!
I had accomplished a few things around the house today but this was the most satisfying job of the day. Your method fixed 2 doors, one self opening & one closing. Thank you!
Unbelievably easy fix! I asked a carpenter how to fix this when we had some construction done on our home and he said it’s a lot of trouble and didn’t offer to make an attempt. Maybe I’ll show him if I see him again…
Excellent. Just did this exact thing due to an attic door not fully closing. The wood expanded during the Summer and forced the door latch rearward. Two small pilot holes approximately 1mm left and boom💥 All fixed. 👊🏽
Wow....it really works. Took me about 10 minutes to adjust two doors that had been swinging open half way all these years. My wife was very impressed. Thank you so much David.
David thank you very much for your brilliant solution! I was dealing with self-closing door for at least a couple of years. It took me 3 minutes to fix my annoying door closing.
Worked like a charm! I didn't have a piece of wood, I used a small buick instead and hammered it four to five times. Finally got that frustration out of my head!
I replaced the existing old door and jamb but because the walls were so out of plumb the door had a mind of it's own.... Stumbled on your video and now after your tweak it is perfect. Many thanks, Subscribed.
It works!! had a 'GHOST DOOR' that closed by itself. Drove me nuts. After watching this video, I did what David said, and VOILA, it worked! Easy peasy! Thank you, David!!
Had found your video a while back; never tried it. Finally decided to try this out on two doors today hoping to fix the very same issue. Well, I'll be dam***!!! Fixed. Thank you!!!!
Incredible. As a first-time homeowner I was getting sick and tired of my pantry door hitting me in the butt or enveloping me in complete darkness. I was a little nervous that bending/damaging the pin would give me more problems - but I was certainly wrong!
5 years of a door closing... watched 2 minute video, fixed in under 4 minutes. Subscribed.
Hoooray! And thanks!
Mr. Woodward, I got you beat by 22 years. I thought I'd have to re-frame the thing.
Thanks to David's Tutorials. Subscribed.
Haha, mine was similar in time. I also subscribed!
Lol
Thats so. Funny
Praise God
Dude - yes! I did the same. Great video.
I have massive respect for that opening shot with the door opening. Very nice.
Thanks! I wanted an opening shot that demonstrated the problem.
Agreed! Super clever!
yeah as soon as it was opening i thought 'niiiiice'
That was sick.
16 years and my 2 doors are now fixed. Thank you.
Well, this is brilliant. For 8 years I've been dealing with a self-swinging door that annoyed me on a daily basis. After watching this video, my problem was solved in 3 minutes. Thank you, David.
Glad it fixed your problem, Scott!
Clear and concise and not dragged out for 10 minutes. Thank you David!
I’ve dealt with this stupid door opening for 6 months in my new apartment and it’s driving me crazy lol
Great to hear, Soul xDD! Hopefully, it's not driving you bonkers any more.
Kind sir, you have my utmost respect and appreciation. I used this video to fix our door. Didn't work initially, but the pin did not have much of a bend. Went back to the garage, a few more hammerings, and now, the best non closing door on its own we have. THANK YOU

Thanks, Ballistic. And obviously you are a person of excellent taste and discernment. (Grin!)

great idea, but removing the center pin is easier 2:18
I fixed my door in less than 2 minutes after 2 years of it closing. This was an awesome vidoe that helped out perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Follow his directions to a Tee.. I tried other things than wood.. an it wouldn't bend
.. :)
@@vwald I couldn't bend the pin with my everyday hammer either. So I got an iron mallet out and gave the pin a couple thumps with that, and it bent pretty easily to exactly the right curve. Try that!
Thanks Jimmy Carter. Good Video.

Hi, Elle, and I'm SO GLAD this worked for you! Thank you for sharing this video with others.
Simple yet effective fix, very clearly explained and demonstrated, short and to the point. How all DIYs should be! Well done.
Thanks so much, Spencer!
Fantastic David!. Took 2 pins but works like a charm now.

That's great to hear, Jonathan. I'm glad it worked well for you. Take care.
This was actually a well-edited video with a good content.
I appreciate that you noticed, Manly Tears. Many people don't understand how much work goes into making a "quick tip" video.
Thanks! This helps. I kept passing on tutorials that required a piece of wood, thinking I had to do some sort of woodwork. But this was easy.
Happy to help!
It also fixes doors that want to close. This was so easy that even I could do it!
Grin! Glad it helped!
THANK YOU! Two years of using door stops and it's fixed in 5 minutes. You're the best
Thanks for your comment. I'm just passing on what I learned from someone else. Take care.
Unbelievable. I was putting up with a swinging door for 13 years. It wasn't annoying enough to look into at 27. At 40, different story lol. Fixed and thank you :)

Glad I could help, Anthony! Take care.
Amazing tip, sad that I didn’t try this sooner!!
I know what you mean. When I learned it myself, I was wishing I'd known it sooner too.
Brilliant fix! Never would have guessed to do this! Thanks!

Who would ever think they were being trolled. This guy looks like he wrote the book on DIY!
actually lol. I half wondered that.
I love old timers and their no nonsense fixes. My bathroom door started closing on it's own after oiling the hinges. I even adjusted the top hinge to make the door close perfectly. My problem still persisted, watched this video, bent the hinge, door now works as it should. Thank you David!

Was looking for a video to show me how to re-plumb a door frame.

I did something like this a month ago with plans from Woodglut.
Glad you found that. GMTA!

Thanks for your report, Kelly! This has worked so well for me - many times - I just had to share it.
What a beautifully simple solution. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
So simple but i would have never thought of it
I didn't think of it, either. The man who told me didn't think of it either, but someone else told him. I think that's cool.
Amazing. I've lived with a swinging door for 4 years and it's now fixed. Thank you for posting this video.
Happy to help! Take care!
worked perfectly - I had two doors that I had adjusted hinges, to no avail. Watched Dave - all fixed five mins later.
Thanks for sharing that, SneakyStabbalot! It is always nice to know when something I've posted helps folks
2 minutes and door is fixed. Thank you. 26 years of using a stopper!!
It worked! I saw someone do it when we bought a new house eons ago, but didn't know why h was doing it! Thanks for the very easy fix!
Happy to help! Take care.
So simple, even a caveman can do it! And I did it. Thank you sir.
Hey, Buzz! Glad it helped, and at least your thumbnail pic doesn't LOOK like a caveman!
Two doors, two fixes, thanks to you. Two minutes each. All my family who have been dealing with these doors for years thanks you! Posted video on Facebook. Hope you make a million dollars.

There was a time when a man had to fix everything with a hammer and a screwdriver
Yes, and it's truly amazing what ingenious fixes our ancestors came up with. Especially with no power tools.
Thank you so much. Such a simple fix for such a frustrating issue! Next I’m going to search through your videos to see if you have a fox for a sticking door. Thank you!! Liked, subscribed and notifications on!
Hi, Mistieroze, and thanks for your comment. I don't have a video up yet about a sticking door, but I have fixed them in the past using a "Surform" plane, as on this page: amzn.to/3MNX1Ie
Good luck.
Instructions unclear. I clogged the toilet.
HA HA HA HA! Good one!
Outstanding idea. For 12 years I have had a door that has done this. Did exactly as the video and gosh dang problem gone. Outstanding idea and demo. Wow !! Wife is happy and I look like a genius.
Ha ha ha! YES! Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your genius status!
You're telling me I've been wasting money on exorcists??
😆😂🤣😂👍👍👍
Such an easy fix to such an annoying problem! Thank you sir!
Thanks, Johan! I used this again myself about three days ago!
If the door keeps opening after bending 3 hinges, time to burn some sage and call an old priest and a young priest, because your house is haunted.
Just got done doing this trick and 1 hinge and done! Thanks for the great tip!
Ha ha ha about being haunted! But I'm glad it worked for you.
You are brilliant! Love the hack - can't wait to use it for my "unfriendly" front door that slams shut. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. So how did it work?
Me here thinking that my house was haunted

You're the man. Clear and concise instructions
Thanks, Nicholas! Glad it helped.
