This is not a contest !! Jeff is probably the best player alive on a good night, Jennifer is freakin' awsome too, it doesn't matter what sex she is, she plays the sh*t out of that axe period.
Whenever I see Jeff play, I'm always struck by how much he owns his guitar. He doesn't play it, he controls it. Nice to see Jennifer Batten get a little solo time too.
That just blew me away ! Just when Jennifer Batten had my jaw dropping to the ground, Jeff comes back with a solo that knocked me clean off my feet. Bloody amazing stuff !
She came to my college once. She played for us and gave us some first account information about the life of a world class musician. She was jaw-dropping, to say the least. My college proffessors of music were in awe. A really wise woman.
All the previous comments, the futile contradictions and utter craziness is respectfully noted, but Jeff Beck is the best guitarist in the whole world. And he plays with his fingers, sans a guitar pick. Using his thumb nail and knuckle in a way nobody can replicate. Keep on strömmin' ATL
... I don't really like this kind of battles normally, but it is really nice to see both JBs in relaxed conversation and a Jennifer that doesn't proof it too much (as she ususally seems to..) Thanx!
It is good to meet someone who has good taste in music. I have liked everything Mr.Beck has done. I have been an avid jazz fan for a long time, Dimeola, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stanley Jorden! I could go on and on ! My best to you and your family on this day.
Je connaissais jeff beck depuis des annees et là je découvre Jennifer batten ...Grand morceau et des musiciens de grande classe!Comme le disait si bien Zappa!" Shut up and play your guitar".Come on...
i think it works both ways. jennifer's playing is so clearly inspired by jeff, it is no wonder they go so well together. still, it seems jeff's playing really jumped back up to the very top around the time they got together. still, without her now, it has continued to rise... who'd've thought it possible???
You cannot take anything away from Batton, she is a great player, Jeff is really picky he does not play with just anybody, only the best. Notice how he does not try to upstage her.
The sounds that Mr Beck gets by using his thumb, nail, fingers, who hand and arm..... overload of cool stuff. Unique to say the least. The guy is an artist who paints witha guitar as his brush. Yo have to be aware of Jeff's long career to appreciate what he does now. By the way, Jen is really great too.
Beck only hired the best & Jenn said: "please introduce me to Jeff!",maybe a JB stalker yeh but she can play hard & throwing out interesting stuff..Jennifer Batten is still with us,learned a lot from Jeff & still playing-love her!
Jennifer Batten is extremely talented and her work with MJ was beautiful. Orianthi on her own is hot on her heels. As a guitar player and a huge fan of Jeff beck, he is my all-time favorite. He freely claims Les Paul as his big inspiration, but Jeff's sound and style are 100% original. So many so-called "monsters" of the 80's and 90's were heralded as the next (you all know who they are) but all they did was copy Jeff in a different key.
Hiring Jennifer was one of the best things Jeff did. She was flawless when I saw them both tours. I cant listen to her own stuff. she is top shelf guitar player the person you want doing your studio sessions, she can get the job done
Samrock I agree with you about Slash but not Eddie. I'd never heard of her before today and I'm impressed. The world does need more non singing, non bass playing women. More guitars, and drums please, and it's always a pleasure to hear Jeff.
The groove is there, man, U just can't get it from the "arena" sound recording. Bad sound, that's all... Awesome song and performance. I have been a Beck fan for 30 years.
Jeff is a legend, a little respect is due. Check out the live at Ronnie Scott's DVD, eat your words. Stupid thing with the whammy bar???? Watch the DVD and see some real technique of HD quality. Jeff is unique, no one like him, which is more than one can say for a 16 yr old punk.
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Beck at the Capital Music hall several years ago when he was doing the There & back album ! He is a great musican. Jeff doesn't forget where he came from! Batton is Excellent !! CarvinTone, have you tryed any Al Di Meola ?
@dgswilson: Jen is a fabulous guitar player; I think one of the very best. But you are correct. Beck isn't just a guitar player, not just a great guitar player; he is perhaps music itself. At the very least, an instrument from the heavens.
I saw Clapton, Page, and Beck years back during the ARMS benefit tour. Despite my deep admiration for all of the them. After watching Jeff, I just could not believe how good he really was. Some of these clips are really poor quality with really bad mixes. The Ronnie Scott DVD is amazing quality, front seat views of some great cuts throughout Jeff's career. I like a lot of players but Jeff made me love heavy fusion. and instrumentals long before Satriani and Vai came along.
love the little michael jackson bits...you are aware that Jeff Beck views Brian May as better than himself, actullya thinks more of May than most other players...you can hear Jeff on Brian's solo track...the guv'nor
@ReallyBigFatLarry Well, of course she haves her style and maybe we don't understand some thing or another she's saying. Do you really think Jeff would play with someone who doesn't say?
One little problem: music theory is the basis to play all music and to take it to a more creative level. Once you know music theory, you can play anything! The problem for musicians is getting trapped within those scales and handicapping creativity (that is my problem). Trained and creative: John Schoefield has been doing stuff with the melodic scale no one else did before him. His education did not hurt him to bad. After that many best guitar player in jazz, ..............
WOW! beck and batten are great together. he needs to get her back and combine her with that awesome new bassist so he can have the sexiest/most talented band on earth! i reckon jennifer is just too good to be second fiddle for too long.
you have it backwards jennifer has the technical down, but where's the originality beck is in a class by himself, just ask Eric if anyone knows he does, Jeff is a guitarist's guitar player..
Believe me Jennifer is a great player......Jeff would not be on stage with her if she wasn't......Like i've said before.....Jeff is the best, every time he steps onstage he re-invents the guitar......Jimmy Page says pretty much the same thing
@zeppelinrising High enough to kick ass with a hand position that doesn't create wrist and hand problems. If you want low slung guitars, watch some basic players like the Ramones or Stones; if you want baddass players, watch this, but use your ears more than your eyes.
+hhhgfffh ff I've only heard him live. Except for Truth. If your mind cannot be blown, what's the point of having one? -- Franklin Joseph Dwyer 4-2 -2016
never thought I'd say this but this is crap. I went to see Steve Alexander on drums in New York and instead I got the guy from the Spice Girls who did not do one single fill for the whole show he was horrible plus he had a wig on and he kept adjusting it to the show it was really annoying and his giant drum kit was pointless you could tell that Jeff was annoyed and so is Jennifer the drummer was absolutely useless that always has the best drummers I don't know why Steve Alexander quit on the store he was amazing check out the Tokyo gigs same show but different drummer the guy who played on the record Steve Alexander absolutely as good as Simon Phillips brrr... and don't get me wrong I love Beck but what a disappointment...
No, this is the same band from Jeff's 1999 "Who Else!" tour (Randy Hope Taylor on bass, Jennifer Batton on guitar and Steve Alexander on drums) except on the 2001 tour (and in this clip), it's Andy Gangadeen on drums instead of Steve Alexander.
At 1:16 you get shivers down the spine as Jennifer Batten kicks it in..... AWESOME!
Its not about who is better ! Its about the music my friends !!!!
This is not a contest !! Jeff is probably the best player alive
on a good night, Jennifer is freakin' awsome too, it doesn't matter
what sex she is, she plays the sh*t out of that axe period.

Nice to see Jennifer Batten get a little solo time too.
That just blew me away !
Just when Jennifer Batten had my jaw dropping to the ground, Jeff comes back with a solo that knocked me clean off my feet.
Bloody amazing stuff !
what a tone meister jeff beck is. i had never seen this woman play before. she is amazing too.
Killer vid, Jeff is so generous, lets Jen loose and patiently waits to uncoil like a snake. Amazing.
She came to my college once. She played for us and gave us some first account information about the life of a world class musician. She was jaw-dropping, to say the least. My college proffessors of music were in awe. A really wise woman.
I saw them together in concert at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh some years back - devastating!
Not only is the music superlative; there's also a distinct lack of ego tripping.
Agreed, she rocks. I saw Beck and Batten on this tour. It was the best show I've ever seen , bar none. Beck is THE legend.
Wow Batten really rocked this one out! Beck is amazing like always.
Jennifer Batten is fantastic, especially next to the Master! Would love to have seen that tour...
GREAT to see Jennifer get some air time. Not often, when backing Jeff, does she get the spotlight. Thanks !!!!!
It takes balls to get up there with Jeff Beck ( or Stevie Ray for the matter ). But Batten just killed here!! Man. . . .
All the previous comments, the futile contradictions and utter craziness is respectfully noted, but Jeff Beck is the best guitarist in the whole world. And he plays with his fingers, sans a guitar pick. Using his thumb nail and knuckle in a way nobody can replicate.
Keep on strömmin'
ATL
Completely bad ass. Jennifer too.
... I don't really like this kind of battles normally, but it is really nice to see both JBs in relaxed conversation and a Jennifer that doesn't proof it too much (as she ususally seems to..) Thanx!

Effing great, I saw this tour. Amazingness

i never get tired of watching this
Man she's got some chops.
IT'S ALL JEFF'S FAULT!
NONE BETTER.
You cannot take anything away from Batton, she is a great player, Jeff is really picky he does not play with just anybody, only the best. Notice how he does not try to upstage her.

she just have a diferent way to play guitar...a diferente felling...
for me she is awesome ;D
Drummer is stinkin' up the joint. Beck and Batten are great though, and I guess that's all we need!! hehe
me too. i love his style
jeff and eric are great mates and i think that they are as good as each other
in thier way
Thanks to the uploader for the great vid. Jeff Beck doesn't get destroyed by anyone though, LOL
There are only three 'shredders' I can listen to... Buckethead, Eric Johnson and Jennifer Batten. This is an awesome video.
jeff rules!!!!!!!!
Beck only hired the best & Jenn said: "please introduce me to Jeff!",maybe a JB stalker yeh but she can play hard & throwing out interesting stuff..Jennifer Batten is still with us,learned a lot from Jeff & still playing-love her!

...anyway, wow, what a classic tune from great musicians. I really enjoyed that. Thanks for posting, you've made me happy : )
For those in 'the know' Jeff Beck is the JACK KIRBY of rock'n'roll. ;-)!!!!!!!
Hiring Jennifer was one of the best things Jeff did. She was flawless when I saw them both tours. I cant listen to her own stuff. she is top shelf guitar player the person you want doing your studio sessions, she can get the job done
Muito bom!!
He's the Miles Davis of the electric guitar.
Nice Duo!
Samrock I agree with you about Slash but not Eddie. I'd never heard of her before today and I'm impressed. The world does need more non singing, non bass playing women. More guitars, and drums please, and it's always a pleasure to hear Jeff.
Jeff is a Guitar.
Exactly!!
Playing next to Jeff ..she just knows not to even try !
Yeah!
The groove is there, man, U just can't get it from the "arena" sound recording. Bad sound, that's all... Awesome song and performance. I have been a Beck fan for 30 years.
whoe.Jeff....what can you say man!!
She is in another league. Beck may have the licks and technical skills but Jennifer outshines him.
@CarvinTone
Good job my friend ! Somepeople just need to grow up and The realerob is one of these people ! Jeff is THE MAN !
Jeff is a legend, a little respect is due. Check out the live at Ronnie Scott's DVD, eat your words. Stupid thing with the whammy bar???? Watch the DVD and see some real technique of HD quality. Jeff is unique, no one like him, which is more than one can say for a 16 yr old punk.
turn the camera around to Jennifer when she plays fer crissakes!
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Beck at the Capital Music hall several years ago when he was doing the There & back album ! He is a great musican. Jeff doesn't forget where he came from! Batton is Excellent !! CarvinTone, have you tryed any Al Di Meola ?
she's also former michael jackson's guitarist. Thats Jennifer Batten for your info...
She may be technically better in ways but I think Jeff still has more soul in his playing that she does.
it was even til about 4:33 or so when BECK UNLEASHES!!!!!
@dgswilson: Jen is a fabulous guitar player; I think one of the very best. But you are correct. Beck isn't just a guitar player, not just a great guitar player; he is perhaps music itself. At the very least, an instrument from the heavens.
Jenn can sure play..Should be more girls shredding....
Yep, no pick...been a fan of his for years. For this style ya don't need a pick at all..cool vid...
where is the song from them callled something like once upon a time in the west or something ??
I saw Clapton, Page, and Beck years back during the ARMS benefit tour. Despite my deep admiration for all of the them. After watching Jeff, I just could not believe how good he really was.

@ljooni Exactly right !!!
They can be called: Double JB
She#s a dream. But Jeffs Backing guitar was so loud that most of the time she was hardly audible.
@dgswilson I love that comment! So true, that!
listen to the original recording it sounds exactly the same. so maybe thats how it was recorded.
I like Jeff but the best version I've ever heard of this song is what did Richie Kotzen and Greg Howe... Check it if you dont know
hi the main figure is in 4/4 and the b section is 7/4 hope this helps
これ撮ったやるはエラい!でもよい子のみんなは真似しちゃいけないぞ!
@ReallyBigFatLarry Well, of course she haves her style and maybe we don't understand some thing or another she's saying. Do you really think Jeff would play with someone who doesn't say?

O Cara toca Muito fais Parte dos Dinosauro da Guitarra
So, Jennifer plays Jeff's G-String...LOL
you have it backwards jennifer has the technical down, but where's the originality
beck is in a class by himself, just ask Eric
if anyone knows he does, Jeff is a guitarist's guitar player..
After 4: 30-- WHOA!!! Nice try Jennifer, thank you for playing, but you've been BURNED.
Believe me Jennifer is a great player......Jeff would not be on stage with her if she wasn't......Like i've said before.....Jeff is the best, every time he steps onstage he re-invents the guitar......Jimmy Page says pretty much the same thing
joe shmoe and Clapton!
thats the problem with young "guitar heroes" restraint & respect for the melody not yet learned
Jennifer Badassen actually...
batten and beck are a ridiculous combo...but what the hell? The original version had SO much more groove in the rhythm section...
@zeppelinrising High enough to kick ass with a hand position that doesn't create wrist and hand problems. If you want low slung guitars, watch some basic players like the Ramones or Stones; if you want baddass players, watch this, but use your ears more than your eyes.
Vai is an impressive (although eccentric) writer. . . Gilbert and Satch are fine too. but of course, I greatly prefer Beck to the three :)
JB and JB are great. Isn't that Terry Bozio on drums? Looks like his set.
That's Simon Phillips on drums..
No, it's Andy Gangadeen on drums.
Guys are just being jelous here LOL
better tone is more likely to come out using thick strings.
Ok.....they complement each other.superior? i don't think so she's good ......Jeff's Great.
thiz ideo should be burned ..or banned..sickening sound compared to studio which i loVE
She starts off great but then falls into the trap of thinking that playing 4 million notes is the thing to do.
dude obviously cant play live
studio great tho wired!
+hhhgfffh ff I've only heard him live. Except for Truth. If your mind cannot be blown, what's the point of having one? -- Franklin Joseph Dwyer 4-2 -2016
she is a little off...not feeling she is quite on the same page.
splewis1 same with Jeff!
never thought I'd say this but this is crap. this drumming absolute disgraces narada michael walden's original track.
Simon Phillips is his drummer on this one...
