Please stop being so hard on yourself Lindsay. You are a fantastic artist whether you are drawing or painting everything looks great to me and probably 99.9% of your channel. There is always a grumpy soul out there lol. I look forward to every video you post.
I loved this painting through all the stages! The more media you added, the more detail it gained. It turned out beautifully, but if you had stopped prior to the gouche and pastel, I still would have liked it ❤
Lindsay… I know you are going through a rough time. I understand, I’ve been there… husband, three kids, husband loses job. It’s very scary. But please stop… just stop constantly second guessing yourself, putting so much pressure on yourself. This painting is lovely… it was lovely at several different stages! Sometimes you have to just let the painting speak its own mind… so what if it’s not exactly what’s in your head? Just let it evolve and stop pressuring yourself! We all love you! ❤🙏🏼
It's so relatable that you started out being inspired by something super loose -- and then you were suddenly adding every media possible and kinda trying to force it, yet without really having a vision of how you wanted it to come out. I watched a video of yours recently where you told your students to imagine they were being charged by the brush stroke and I thought that was brilliant. Also you'd have probably given yourself the advice to take a break. I also heard on one of your videos, never judge a painting with a brush in your hand! I do love that you show us your struggles, and I agree that "if you don't like it, keep going" is also very valuable advice. But so many times I should have just stopped sooner!
Thanks, it's a process! I was definitely feeling under pressure to produce because I'd had a few days where nothing was working. Ordinarily, I might have scrapped it and started over, but time was a luxury I didn't have. Today my paintings went well because the pressure was off. I just needed a win.
I have to say that this is a marvelous painting! Both the painting and the reference photo look so much like our road when my parents and little me moved to the country in late 1964. There were still a few pumpkins in the field and some cornstalks. Sixty years and I still remember how lovely it was, and the smell of the leaves on the ground.
Lindsay I know you're not all that cracked up about your painting, but I absolutely love it! It reminds me of the property my brother used to own in southern Tennessee. It was so beautiful there in the Fall, with the brilliant oranges, reds and yellows on a mountain top looking down into a valley...beautiful, just like your painting.
You’re always posting something that inspires me, Lindsay! I was struggling all week with this drawing for an art challenge. I was just about to give up and then you post this masterpiece! ❤ thank you
Not to invalidate your frustration, but I thought this was beautiful from the beginning. I loved the misty watercolor and the explosion of the powder. Each stage of this painting could have made it's own, beautiful, separate painting. Art is my therapy, but when it no longer works because I'm stressed out or seeking perfection, I let loose and just doodle/color, or seek pet therapy instead, or exercise etc. But know that you will get through this, too! Just don't let your frustrations turn yourself into your enemy. Give yourself a break once in a while. You don't need it, but you have my permission
Hi Lindsay, yes I can relate when you say that sometimes you don’t even have the time to breathe but have so much to do and so much on your mind! Quite honestly, the best way is to take a break and have a nap, you wake up usually feeling much more positive! Unfortunately we just don’t do that, but now and then I have and it really helps. I still love the end result of your painting and will watch it in real time! Thankyou for sharing, take care ❤❤🎄🎄
Lindsay, you could paint a garbage can & I’d still watch. I LOVE this painting, I think it’s AWESOME and agree with others that you’re far too HARD on yourself! Breathe, girlfriend, Breathe! I have recently found a tea, ( Bigelow’s Whispering Wildflowers with L- Theanine , 100% herbal ) at whole foods. It WORKS and I couldn’t live without it! Hope this helps you or someone else my Friend, Cheers & Hugs 🤗 😘
@ No Doubt! Holy smokes…what, with the news of the radio station closing, and the health problems that your Dad has recently experienced and then the sudden passing of Cinnamon, no wonder! I feel your pain, I really do & find getting out of a tailspin is easier if I keep remembering to be grateful for where I am & the people around me who love & support me always. I remember when hubby was laid off before and I’m sure it wasn’t easy, ( been there & done that ) yet, you both made it work! Now I know college tuition isn’t cheap BUT it’s only for a few more years ( think best case scenario) and it’s only a matter of time before your husband finds work again. Besides, it sounds like you have an AMAZING family that has your backs and won’t see you suffer❤️ Get yourself some of that tea, practice some deep breathing exercises and if all else fails, I find a hot bubble bath, a good book and an adult beverage (or 2 or 3☺️) does wonders for the soul! Give yourself some LINDSAY time honey, unwind and trust your instincts …. You GOT THIS Girlfriend, you & hubby did it before & you’ll do it again… trust this old lady when I say much better days are coming, so keep the faith and look after YOU because we can’t pour from an empty cup. Sending Love & Big Hugs my friend 🤗😘😘
I know you don’t like this piece, but I really, really do! That’s like when I feel that I look awful, and my mom says she thinks I look great, I know she means it and isn’t just saying it, but my mind just can’t get there! Anyway, I think this goes back to what you said about a week ago regarding how we sometimes lose the fun in the process of art because we’re focused on the end goal or getting it done. I have three more watercolor holiday cards that I’d like to paint, but I decided this morning that doing three more (for me a newbie) with 48 hours before I give them is just a recipe for stress, not fun! Tis the downside of this busy, wonderful, yet chaotic season!!! I commend you for not throwing in the towel completely when you missed one day!!! Bravo!!! Take the little wins! Hopefully the rest of the videos you post are easy for you!!! Last year, or maybe the year before, you did a fun candy cane with watercolor pencils!!! Perhaps something short and sweet like that again that allows you to feel festive but isn’t a huge undertaking! Long comment, sorry!😂
Thanks for that tip about Cad colors and spattering! Well it could be an oxide or cobalt too! I probably have done that before not thinking or being aware and so now I will be aware. I also appreciate that you walk through your struggles and also share with us. I feel more human! We just went through (last week) two days without power. The hardest part was no heat and it was cold for us on the coast of California. 39 degrees in the morning! Then my refrigerator was not working right and getting very hot on the outside. It just needed some maintenance and time to reset. I did have a technician come out. The dust was unbelievable inside the coils and compressor. It's fine now!
Oh Lindsay! I suspect (but I could be wrong) that your dissatisfaction with this painting is at least partly due to your anxiety with life and your increasing stress levels, b/c I think it is quite amazing! Are you able to articulate what it is exactly that you don’t like about it, or what you wanted to be different? On another note, this video is another triumph! Not only was it done even though you are having life issues, it was really instructive to see how you pushed through, so thank you for sharing your struggles with us!
OhL Lindsay you crack me up! When you ran out of bullets you threw the gun at it, LOL. I was a little concerned when your plan to deal with the stress in your life was to add the stress of making a video every day. You do what is best for you. I won't hold you to that commitment, but I am keeping my commitment to watch whatever you post.
This video overwhelmed me by the number of different mediums you used. I really like the painting. It seems I never think to use some of my other supplies to get what I have in my head and not on my paper. I really need to play more and try drawing a simple sketch on a couple of different pages and then putting out say 3 or 4 things on my table and see how I change the look of each one by trying new combos. So now I have a new challenge for myself. TY. And ...stop putting so much pressure on yourself.
If mood is not there to paint unicorns and happy, I know that feeling as pre holidays struggle of my own as you well know; just paint something gloomy, I did faux dipdye watercolor cards and thought i was gonna hate them, turnsout I love them and they're going to be a giftset lol. Just work with mood you have; if you force yourself into happy and its not there it wiil show; just adjust to the mood;life can't be all unicorns all the time.
If there is parts you do like use a viewer to scale that up for reference and cut up for cards, add some bling, you're on a mixed media train now anyways, might as well embrace it. Use it for gift tags, booklets or even a fun shaker background. Its your party :)
I am looking forward to trying this painting but I also think it’s beautiful Lindsay! I understand there has been a bunch of sadness and anxiety lately but I hope you can take a deep breath and enjoy the holidays with your family ❤️🙏
Sometimes we’re our worst critics 😅 I loved your painting and all the medias I sometimes feel like that too & throw everything on it 😅 sometimes I love it a while after, sometimes I don’t. But I hope the fact that this video was inspiring with others brings some solace. I hope that life is being kinder & you’re feeling better x
If you like the “Volcano Yellow,” you can get it (under the name Lemon Yellow Deep) from Winsor & Newton for $15, instead of paying Schmincke’s ridiculous “luxury brand” toll of $25 for the exact same pigment.
I just discovered that some of those pencils have sharpeners in the cap or end piece. I'm extremely critical of everything I do, we gotta stop that. Wonderful job!
Nice video! I love your landscapes. If you ever make a class about landscapes or landscape elements, I would be interested. I also understand if this isn’t something you want to do. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Lindsay, you need to go easier on your self. That painting is beautiful and those trees are life like. Please don't put so much pressure on yourself. I know that your husband is loosing his job but it is all going to be ok. You have been through tough times before and handled them well. Give some credit to yourself. XOXO
I have painted this reference photo twice. Once in watercolor, and once in acrylic. I should try again, since it is years later. I bet I could do a better job. I love how it turned out for you.
Please stop being so hard on yourself Lindsay. You are a fantastic artist whether you are drawing or painting everything looks great to me and probably 99.9% of your channel. There is always a grumpy soul out there lol. I look forward to every video you post.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it.
We do love and support you and the family!
The textures and colors are mesmerizing!
Ah, yes... "If you don't like it, you're not done." It's so valuable to watch somebody work through the process. Thank you, Lindsay! ❤😊

I'm so glad that this was helpful!
You post every day and then when you don't, I start to worry 🤣. I'm sure your "struggle" will be wonderful.
Thanks!
I love how this came out. You definitely achieved the rich bold colors. Thank you for the video.
I am glad you liked it!
I think your painting is fantastic! Thanks Lindsay 💕
I love this painting Lindsay! You’re way too hard on yourself. Sending you love! ❤️

What a great painting and tutorial!
I like the bark on the trees.
Thanks 😊

So true! I have never been able to nap tho, unless I am really ill.
It’s lovely Lindsay!❤❤❤
Beautiful!!
Well I think this turned out fabulous! You are way too hard on yourself! I would be proud to put this on a wall!
Very beautiful painting I like how you explain everything so well ty so much Lindsay and I appreciate everything you do here
You are so welcome!

I think it’s beautiful.

I love it!
Wow I think it looks fantastic!
Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Hello, Lindsay. Thank you so much for tutorial.
You are so welcome!
I love your "struggles"- they inspire me to keep trying!
I'm glad you can relate!
Love this piece - looked so easy!
Thanks so much, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely love it!
Thank you!!
I think this turned out beautifully. Wish my "fails" looked this good.

Lindsay thanks for this. It is a great lesson that you always learn and can solve an issue by going forward in a different direction,
Thanks so much, I appreciate that!

Merry Christmas!
I love it! Thanks for the video❤
I am glad you enjoyed it!
I am looking forward to trying this painting but I also think it’s beautiful Lindsay! I understand there has been a bunch of sadness and anxiety lately but I hope you can take a deep breath and enjoy the holidays with your family ❤️🙏

I hope that life is being kinder & you’re feeling better x
Thank you, I am feeling better today. ☺️
I think you should compare all your color burst brands
Good idea, I'm surprised I haven't alread.
If you like the “Volcano Yellow,” you can get it (under the name Lemon Yellow Deep) from Winsor & Newton for $15, instead of paying Schmincke’s ridiculous “luxury brand” toll of $25 for the exact same pigment.
You did great. I enjoyed the whole video!

I have a class on landscapes: watercolor landscape workshop at lindsayweirich.teachable.com
The paper is 600 gsm cold press. When Hahnemühle write "matt" they mean cold press.
Thanks!
Hi Lindsay, you need to go easier on your self. That painting is beautiful and those trees are life like. Please don't put so much pressure on yourself. Have you tried using a blending stump with your FC Matt pencils? I find they blend beautifully!!!
Hey Lindsay excellent video. Does the your drawing course on teachable ever go on sale?
Yes it does! Join my mailing list to learn of sales. I do a sale on my birthday every July if you can wait:)
I feel like pigment powders are better in theory than reality. Each time I use them, I am disappointed.
I have painted this reference photo twice. Once in watercolor, and once in acrylic. I should try again, since it is years later. I bet I could do a better job. I love how it turned out for you.
I hear ya! I can never seem to get them to behave!
Very not you but I like the style.
