For the first time, I will show you what it's like to answer pages and the types of issues we encounter. My first priority has to be patient confidentiality, but I will try to share some stories with you today including a "code blue"!

You talk to your nurses so respectfully! For some reason, I always thought that doctors would be bossy or have that “I’m better than you” attitude towards their nurses since they’re the doctors.. but nurses are the backbone of the medical field. You seem like the sweetest doctor!! Also don’t understand how you look so good after your shift 😂

Yes!!! I love the in-hospital vlogs! Keep up the great work Doc!
Your vlogs are amazing!! So many doctors make youtube videos but I LOVE being able to see you vlog while on call! Defintely my favourite medical channel I’ve seen.😊
Thanks Carter I really appreciate it - it's been fun to make them!
Carter Sullivan Hello
I completely agree!
I’m a third year med student in Barcelona and I truly appreciate your effort to document your experience as a first year resident. I’m just thankful to see how things work there and be able to see the similarities and differences of both health systems. You’re doing a great job Siobhan! It’s always a pleasure to see your vlogs ☺️
Hi Anna - thank you so much for the thoughtful response!
Im 10 and this is my 1st time watching you and I have fell in love with this vlog... I want to be a doctor when I grow up
Tough schedule! Keep up the work doc!
Hey Precious! Thanks for watching - haha yeah it can be brutal at times, but luckily i'm really enjoying it!
Just came across your channel. These videos are so interesting. I am obsessed with Greys Anatomy (I know it’s nothing like the real world haha) so it’s really interesting to actually see the viewpoint of a real doctor!! Thank you for the time updates throughout the video, it helps the viewers understand what your day is like!
Hi Sarah - so glad you've been enjoying the videos! Also, I love how much energy you have in your videos!!
Did you think 🤔 about that ,, so you are crazy in my video hahah ,,

How do you look so good after such a long hospital shift... please tell me your secret lol
It's the soul.
@@ZDarabos I know right
I'm not even going into medicine, I'm going into law but I love your videos. Your voice is so soothing.
aw thanks Mackenzie!!
I’m a sophmore in high school and vlogs like this really help me decide what i’d like to school for next year when I take dual enrollment ! Thank you so much for all you do !!
You might wanna try making smoothies before your shift and keeping them in ice so you have an easy extra amount of calories on top of your meals which seem hard to get in throughout the shift!
Great idea - thanks!
Violin MD I like 3-4 bananas, some berries, a couple servings of oatmeal, and some ground flax seeds for omega 3s! c: oh and don’t forget straws, I hate leaving all that on teeth until I get home.
Thank you doctor. You shared something that make my eyes open how hardworking doctor routine. It seems simple but I don’t think so its simple. You deal with patients and disease to cure. Keep moving forward doctor♥️
I am 15 years old and I am planning on becoming a doctor and going to medical school. You are such an inspiration and I’m so glad that you’re giving us insight on how medical school and residency works so I’ll know what I’m getting myself into in the coming years if things don’t change. You are super nice and sweet, and when you have a lot to do and it gets stressful you stay calm and you handle it professionally. A lot of people think that it’s all fun and games and whatnot, but it’s not just all fun and games. It’s lives at our hands and can be emotionally, physically, and mentally challenging sometimes. But, enough with my rant. Thank you for these vlogs and videos and keep up the good work! 👍🏽
I didn't think you were going to be able to create an interesting vlog whilst protecting your patients' confidentiality (too much editing out of interesting information I assumed) however, I was so wrong. This was GREAT! Super duper interesting. I'm not even in medical school or premed or anything related. This was just entertaining to watch.
Thanks so much GKJ - so glad you enjoyed it!!
So busy! I have so much more patience when I’m in the ER or a waiting lobby now that I’m watching you starve to not keep patients waiting. You’re awesome! 💪🏼
You're so smart, bubbly, happy, energetic, caring, positive, passionate and everything most of us wish we were, and you are saving lives!!
You have so many amazing attributes that so many of us aspire for, thank you for sharing your journey with us and for using your talents to do good in the world!
Absolutely love your vlogs! I am a current nursing student, you’ve truly inspired me to go into medicine in a couple years! 😊
Love watching these vlogs. I was just thinking they should have a little lunch room for doctors and nurses with snacks etc you can just grab! Look after yourself
Oh that’s an excellent idea - I would love that!!
I find it interesting how doctors go on such little sleep and food lol its not very healthy for the body or mind lol kind of ironic haha great videos though ive always been so intrested in medicine!
Brittni Piercey Well, they do get good food, just later than they expect.
Im a nurse working in mental health. I just started watching your videos and I'm enjoying them. We rely so much on the on call doctors at nights and weekends!
Amazing vlog, would love to see more such vlogs in the hosp!
don't worry, more to come!
So this is why doctors take so long to come they are vlogging 😂😂😂 (I'm kidding I love these videos lol)
Ugh you're so amazing. Your attitude and how positive you are!! That smile never leaves your face even when you are exhausted!! You were made to be a doctor. That smile can reasurre anyone that is sick that they are in good hands xx
I Feel Exhausted Just Watching This 😩

Hi! I am a nursing student considering applying to med! I love watching your videos because they give me a peek into what it could be like to be a resident! Really inspiring 😊
Hi Jaden! Great to hear from you - let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
You work so hard! People like you deserve a lot of recognition, and you always seem so positive which inspires me ❤️
Thanks Tara!
Why do they let doctors work 24 hour shift? Isn't that dangerous just because you are tired etc. - why wouldn't they just have day shift and night shift? Just wondering :) love these vlogs!
Hey Zoe - you raise an excellent point and it's certainly something that is being discussed! Some places have changed how they do things... who knows maybe we will change at some point too!
Probably because it's not easy to become a doctor but there's a huge need for doctors. Probably some sort of supply and demand issue while the demand is rather serious
The doctor on shift learns the patients well enough to give a meaningful report to incoming teams. It also circumvents the tendency of shift work to encourage avoidance behaviors. If you know you can kick the can to the next shift because you get off soon you're less inclined to take responsibility for your shift. The long shifts encourage responsibility. It also gives the doctors that are at home more rest, study time, r&r, etc.
How does a surgeon going on 20+ hours with no sleep use a scalpel :/ ??
Subscribed! Please do more vlogging in the hospital. The insight of being in the hospital is one of the reasons why you're becoming my favourite MD vlogger. Thanks!
Hey Mikey - wow that's a huge complement, thank you so much! yep more to come 😊
I am completely obsessed with your channel! I LOVE the medical field but am not a part of it in my career so you fulfill a portion of me that I cannot lol! I love how accessible you make your videos by explaining key terms without making it feel strictly educationally or infantile. I love these videos and I hope you don't get to busy to keep filming 🤞😊
Thanks so much Jackie!!
I'm someone who loves watching grey's anatomy but I know working as a resident or attending isn't always that dramatic, so I love to see a real life experience of what it's like to work as a doctor! Keep up the amazing work you do and thank you for giving us a glimpse at how you guys do your job! It's so cool! Subscribed ❤️
I love the way you're always smiling. Your dimples are the cutest!!!
I'm not in the medical profession, but I've spent my fair share of time in the hospital. Its nice to see "the other side".
I love your mug in the beginning of the vlog I think that everyone should get to do something they love at least one time in their life
I enjoy your blogs a lot! Thanks so much ! I am an RN... formerly an ER nurse and then a jail nurse and now I am a mental health nurse. Keep up your good work, you can def tell you care about your patients ..., you bring positivity!
thank you for your hard work... we nurses love when doctors actually listen to us
I can't stop watching your vlogs lol
Absolutely loved this vlog! Please keep them coming.
I LOVE THESE KIND OF VLOGS.
Came across ur channel and can’t stop watching lol love your calm voice...!
Keep up the good work Doc
It's so incredible, hearing about how many things can happen during the day! You really never know what to expect. Hope you got a chance to do some groceries on your post-call day ;)
Hey Sahra!! hahah yessss the grocery store was my one and only objective for that post call day!!
Ok so your positivity is a medication on its own self... Can't quench my thirst of learning from you! Actually you are my dopamine
Oh goodness. I was watching a speed cleaning vlog and your video came up and now I’m binging! I’m so intrigued! My father was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure so we’ve been at the hospital 11 (!!!) times since his first heart attack in June and I thought I’ve learned so much about hospitals, but your view is so great to see! Cant wait to see more videos! You keep such a good attitude for being so sleep deprived, I wish I saw more doctors like that!
I love these type of videos!!
You give us hope!!
Respect, you guys are really awesome. May the blessings of Nature be upon you guys always.
I am a big fan of your channel because I really want to become a doctor and your teaching me how you do it 👍
It is soo interesting to see this! I am a clerk in the telecommunications departments at a Hospital and paging doctors for nurses is part of my job! So great to see what happens on "the other side" 🙊😊
i cant help but point out u have gorgeous teeth. keep up the great vids!
You literally make me want to try my best in life💕 Love your videos I’m so addicted xxx
Hi Tea - thank you so much, hearing that makes this whole youtube journey even more worthwhile!
As a nurse I really appreciate the honesty!! The TV shows are real accurate. Keep up the good work
I am going back and watching your videos and it’s crazy to hear you say 1st year medicine student to now a 4th year! So proud!
Can we take a moment to appreciate you to take part of your time to make and edit vlogs as well as pursuing a beautiful habit of playing the violin with a crazy schedule of you being a doctor!
I️ love your channel! You’re personally is so great and so nice to watch what your work days are like
Hey! A 3rd yr medical student here in Philippines. It's just refreshing how you're able to handle a busy day and still able to smile! Planning on taking internal medicine as my specialty when I'll have my residncy so I had fun watching your vlogs.
Thanks for sharing more details in this vlog. It's super interesting to hear about! You're awesome :)
Hi Calli - thank you!!
You are so positive! God bless you
Seriously these vlogs are better than Netflix 😍
Out of all the amazing things Doctors can do....having to wake up on call is the one thing that amazes me.
Question: what happens if a doctor falls asleep while on call? If it ever happens that is
Hi Yelisbet! haha yeah it can feel like a real shock sometimes! If you get a chance to sleep overnight it's definitely encouraged, but sometimes that's only for 20mins or so.... I haven't seen many people just fall asleep on a desk or anything 😂 but i'm sure it has happened! The pagers we have are so loud though, it definitely wakes you up!!
i`m a medical student so i really love your video. It help me have more motivation and improve my english everyday. thanks you so much
Thank God I finished my reaidency
I like your inhospital vlogs , they remind me of myself when I was a residant and was enthusiastic, interested, curious and just happy to do on calls and see all these interesting cases
love these videos! thanks for posting them siobhan

Starting on this residenct journey of yours from the very beginning. I am so inspired and motivated by your videos specially that I am about to start residency soon. Thanks for all your efforts documenting from your first year until now even in the midst of pandemic. God bless you Doc! Stay healthy and safe!
You have such a genuine demeanor
I LOVE THIS!!! So interesting
Thanks Libby!!
Libby Falcon hi
I absolutely love your videos!!! They are so educational, but are still really fun!!
Hi Violin, what would happen when two pagers go off at the same time? What would you do? Which pager would you prioritize first?
Thien Truong her name isnt violin
My apology, I watched so many of her videos but I don't even know her name haha. Even when she tells us her name right at the beginning of the video all the time.
Hi h
Her name is Siobhan
Im a doctor on the pager it tells us what priority its is if ist priority 1 we have to attend that first as it could be life threatening
Please do more of these vlogs!! I love them:)
Thanks Janet - so glad to hear you are enjoying them!! yes absolutely ☺️
you have excellent fluency in your English, I am watching this video to practice my English, it is because I am going to start translating calls from abroad
Absolutely Love your vlogs!!!!!!!!! You do an incredible job:)
I've been waiting for a channel like yours for what feels like my whole life. I've got 2 more years until my residency begins and I'm totally psyched for it. Thank you for posting this and keep 'em coming! :D
Edit: UA-cam's creator on the rise section got me here. For once, I'm not kicking myself for scavenging around for videos on the Trending page lol.
Your a huge inspiration to me💗 I just discovered your vlog this morning while getting ready for work. And I'm truly inspired to do something more, watching you makes me want to go back to school and finish my degree. Good luck and I will be following your journey.

What I'm thinking: Will I ever get through Bio 1
Sloane Wesloh I did bio 1 now this semester I’m doing bio 2. Just study study study and study some more. You’ll be fine the labs are always fun :). Thought I’m scared for chemistry 😩😩
hahah Sloane - you can do it! do you play the viola (in your picture?)
yes actually, just transferred to start my pre-med after playing the viola for 16 years and going to conservatory! decided to go for what I've secretly been wanting to do for a while. love your vlogs!!!
wow we have such a similar background (i did my undergrad in music and then applied to med school!) - awesome to meet other musician-to-be-doctors! keep it up and let me know if there's any way I can help :)
what!? that's awesome - I actually didn't know that, though I'm sure you probably talk about it on one of these vlogs. I'm glad to see that it is achievable - you are definitely an inspiration to me!
I just came across your channel, I love that you are always smiling and positive despite of crazy schedule. 😊
I love your violin skills
My mom hated being on call for her job. (computer programming). It messed up her sleep.
Yes I can totally understand that!
on call for computer programming?? why? heheh
Sal Schlacter my husband is a computer programmer and occasionally he has to be on call when they are doing major overnight software installation (or something like that, I am not sure of the exact correct term for it!)
Love your mug!!!! 💕🥰❤️👍😷🤓😍✌️
I am starting my dietetic internship clinical rotation Monday and i’ve been binge watching your videos to get refreshed on medical information, and also hospital job outfit inspo 😂
I’m a nursing student and it is so cool to see the other side of these long call shifts.
I am M.D Internal Medicine from Mumbai, India. Your Vlogs are really honest, and a pleasure to watch bcoz of the way you describe the events... you seem to be thoroughly enjoying your residency... keep it up
Love these vlogs!
You’re so inspirational
aw thank you Kristine!
Your channel showed up on UA-cam’s trending page. Glad I subscribed this morning before heading off to work. I found this very interesting!
Wow this was inspiring to watch. You go girl! That job looks difficult but you handle it with grace and a smile.
I'll be doing my GCSEs next year and I know for certain I want to be some kind of doctor. These types of videos are just making me even more motivated to go for this career path. Keep it up!! :)
i love these videos!! you’re positive attitude just makes me so happy.
Your videos keep me awake and smoking less

My father is a captain firefighter and has a similar schedule and hours as you. I have to say you are doing amazing and I could never deal with the amount of sleep you get on these call days lol. I wonder how my dad copes even though he gets way more sleep. Major props 🤗
