If you don't want to use an anti-fog solution and decide to go with the old method. You cannot just spit into the mask, especially, if it is new. First, you dab some toothpaste on the lens (inside, not outside) then scrub the inside lens with an old toothbrush (removes any silicone runoff from the skirt of the mask) after you have scrubbed the inside with your toothpaste, then you rinse with water. This is better done, at home prior to going snorkeling. Now, when you need to use your mask, then you can spit in it, rub it on the glass, rinse with seawater, and you are ready for total fog free lenses for your dive. If you use your mask frequently to snorkel, rubbing toothpaste on the lens once will be enough. If you store the mask for more than a few months, just repeat the toothpaste method and you will be good to go.
I use baby shampoo..just a drop on each side..Rub it around the whole glass..and rinse just until the bubbles are gone..yeah toothpaste should only be uses when get new mask..the factory puts thin layer of silicone on it
Practice breathing with the tip of your tongue just behind your front teeth. This prevents any water inhalation as you snorkel. Water conditions are not always prime in the ocean. We teach beginners this little trick so they don't end up getting sick later from inhaling water. Your fins? Trying them on while next to the ocean is not the time for that. Too tight, and you will get leg cramps. When you shop for your fins, go in the afternoon. Your feet will swell to their max size so you will have true size when you try them on (the same reason you never buy shoes in the morning, too tight in the afternoon after all that walking) Myself, I prefer fins with the strap so you can adjust them. I also wear neoprene booties with them. Split fins? Everyone makes his choice. I prefer Scubapro Jet Fins (no split) here is my reason based upon experience: The ocean shore, depending on the tide and wave action, will be subject to rip tides (undertow). If you get caught in one of these, swimming perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) from the flow of the undertow, will get you out and safe. Never swim against a rip tide, you will lose. Split fins mean much more work to get yourself out of an emergency. Swimming in a pool? Use whatever you want. Swimming in the ocean can be fun, but it can also go bad on you in a heartbeat if you don't keep your wits about you at all times. Plan for anything when swimming in the ocean. Go with a buddy. If you dive down past the tolerance of your snorkel, do so, one at a time. One up, one down. Look up the definition of these terms please: Rip Tides, Shallow water blackout. Be safe and have fun!
Thank you for teaching the basic steps for snorkelling. I have no idea of snorkelling at all. After watching your video I'm quiet confident to give a try.
I even went snorkeling knowing nothing at all at the ocean. Experienced to drunk water, had bruised from the corals. But indeed it was fun and loving it.
Also, don't forget. "If you're a beginer snorkling in open waters don't do it alone. Have an experienced snorkler with you." "Keep aware of your surroundings and keep close to your colegues." "Don't do snorkling on bad weather or rough seas, principle if near ledges."
You should add use of an inflatable/deflatable snorkeling vest. It's a cheap but valuable safeguard for snorkeling in a new or unknown area or if you are not an especially strong swimmer. Better safe than sorry!
Thsnk You for Sharing Your Overall Expertise on Snorkeling, for both Beginners and the Experienced. I learned alot! You are A Great Teacher!!! Keep Up The Great Work while Enjoying Your Life😇😇😇😁😁😁
Another video said ti adjust the snorkel so that as you look straight down, the snorkel is straught up. Not as shown here. I’m looking to see how you dive if the snorkel is in the mouth and how to clear it which seems to ignore this in this video
What happens when water comes unexpectedly into the tube, and you got no more breath to blow out. Such causes one to panic and come right up...or a wave breaks and you blow, but cannot blow the water completey out?
I'm obviously not a great swimmer but I have a genuine question. How do you stay close enough at all times to the surface so the open end doesn't go underwater?
Our bodies have natural buoyancy. Laying flat on the surface with your face down aids this buoyancy. Your snorkel has a curvature to it, so when you are on the surface looking down, the snorkel will actually be above the surface.
I never try snorkel yet, thanks for the lesson. I always afraid to breath in with the water, oh and hate that water noise in my ears. Really want to try overcome my fears.
Dreamtowin15 good for you! I used to have those rmfears but now I am in the water every chance I get! I have even started my own video channel for it! Good luck, you can do it!
When you first want to dive, take a deep breath, dive down, as you start to come back up you can begin to blowout till you reach the point of when the snorkel is out of the water where you can then blow all the water out of the snorkel. There's two types of snorkel, be sure you're using the right one that allows you to blow out while coming back up. Otherwise hold your breath till you reach the surface then blowout sharply, this will remove the water from the snorkel. Hope that helps...

Generic Mexican, SCUBA is for completely breathing underwater. SCUBA stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. The air source for the snorkel is the human lung! Which only lasts so long before you have to inhale more air, of course. The advantage of having a snorkel versus nothing at all, is that the snorkel allows you to leave your head down, submerged/partially submerged, and keep your eyes on the scenery. That's what you're there for! : ) So, essentially, it's for convenience. It gets annoying to constantly have to come all the way up and out of the water to get more air. Then you just missed that beautiful sea turtle or Queen Angelfish or school of amazingly colorful Parrot Fish that just swam by. With the old fashioned snorkels, you have to clear the water out when you come back to the surface when you need to take your next breath. The newer dry snorkels never allow water in, so you can breathe through them the entire time without having to clear water out, but you will of course need to get more air at the surface, again, without having to come all the way out. Just the top portion of the snorkel tube needs to come out, then you can inhale more air and explore, dive for as long as that breath lasts.
whynottalklikeapirat why would he be joking. I occasionally go spearing and a simple j snorkel will definitely help you to observe more before you dive down
@@urb6857 I am talking about diving with a dry mask, I have no idea how what you are talking about relates to that ... but thanks for the advice, I'll pass it on to my open water students ...
AmursUzNaglas yes you need a mask that covers your nose. Othervise you can easily inhale water through your nose, which could potentially be dangerous depending on conditions you are in.
In step 6 you say take deep breath when water gets in snorkeling tube take a deep breath and expel the water, How do you breath when the water is tube?
It is explained poorly, but if you get water in your snorkel forcibly say the number 2 loudly twice through your snorkel, like you're sneezing it out "TWOTWO!" the force of the sound will force the water up and out of your snorkel top.
There is not hygiene issue with using spit, you just find it gross that's all. Spit is completely reliable and 100% effective. Who the fuck wants to be carrying around some extra bottle for a job you have to be able to perform out to sea if you have to? This defog business is just feeding off peoples feelings and insecurities and lack of proper mask handling, which is usually the real issue ...

Ari F Toothpaste is abrasive so it will rub the silicone off while not damaging the tempered glass.

La Herradura!! lol best place ever!!!

If I wear adjustable fins, is it compulsory (or necessary) for me to wear booties? Thanks
Not necessarily you could just wear fin socks
Only if your fins are uncomfortable or for extra warmth
I use short fins when snorkeling I hate long fins.
