when I see someone on the street with a speedy I think "alright, mainstream but whatever" when I see someone with this watch I think "thats one cool motherf****r". Great purchase, a real gem.

I have this exact watch. Received it from my father when he passed. He was the original owner and I have the box, paperwork, and original receipt. Love it. Thinking of sending to Omega to have the seals replaced due to the age.

I have always been a fan of the Speedmaster in all its incarnations. I prefer it (GASP!) to the Rolex Daytona and GMTs. You have a beautiful example and I fully agree with the maintenance that you have applied to it.

The aspect of this reveiw I apreciate most is the detailed description of the problems a vintage buyer would encounter in trying to obtain a stock watch! I reccomend you listen to this very carefully before tou attempt to purchase a totally original vintage watch! 😢

Outstanding review of an iconic watch. I used to know a pilot that wore one every day and knew I admired it. One will make it into my collection someday....if a 4.5 doesn’t beat it first

Beautiful congratulations. I love the Flightmasters. Had set my heart on both the 1971 Cal 910 with leaf-green 9oclock 24-hour Hand st145013 And the 1974 Cal 911 st145036. Both of which I was lucky to acquire from a pilot friend. Cyrus

I was gifted my father in laws Mark III years ago. Same as yours but with the original bracelet. It was whooped though and had to go to Omega for service. If I could do it over, I would've requested they leave the hands and chapter ring original. However, not knowing any better, they were replaced so now I have a mix of tritium and SuperLuminova like you do. Oh well. We live and learn. At least they sent back all the old parts with the refreshed watch. And it was glorious when it came back. 3 months it was gone but totally worth the wait. It really is a unique and fun Speedy. Actually wearing right now :-) . Congrats on the new addition.

Nice watch. I like the later speed master models as I think the case is too much for my preference. It does look good on your wrist. I would imagine it would be quite heavy on a bracelet and the strap should lighten it up. I think it would work well with a one piece nato/Zulu strap too. My favorite speed master is the 376.0822 from the late 80s. I would not consider an analog chronograph without a central minutes hand as I already have one with the small subdial for minutes and it is harder to read and can be annoying at a glance compared to a central minutes or digital chronograph which are actually useful.

No particular favourite Speedmaster, but you’ve a great looking one there!
I note your comment regarding the excellent timekeeping of your watch after its service. I had a service done on a preowned 50 year old, time only, Geneve Dynamic - brilliant timekeeping also! (Believe it’s a 601 calibre.)
Another wonderful history lesson Armand, thank you. I see your thumb is healing nicely.

+Jim Begin: You're quite right about older models being capable of really remarkable timekeeping. As you say, my thumb has healed now!

Congratulations Armand on the new piece. I think I feel the same way as I used to feel about the Ploprof. Real hate at first until I felt at ease with its insane proportions and knew its history, then I started coming around and now although I still don't love it, I do kinda like it a lot more.
It's a bit like seeing the Fiat Multipla for the first time, laughable ugliness turned into beauty! I take my hat off to you (if I wore one) for having the guts to wear something so unusual and interesting. Excellent stuff.

I love this unique case style. Not sure if you are aware but Seiko has a similar looking case in one of their 6139 chronograph models. It has the nickname Helmet. Anyway congratulations on your Omega. I have a very good example of the Mark II with racing dial. And I agree with what you say about trying to keep these as original as you can. It can be difficult. Thanks,

Why an X-15 intro ??? That hypersonic research program ended in October 1968 and test pilots wore the Bulova Accutron and the Rolex GMT-Master !
However Omega Mark III was seen on the wrist of cosmonauts on Soyuz 15 (1974), Soyuz 24 (1977) and Soyuz 33 (1979)

As someone else said, I love Omega and I love Speedmasters, I own 2 of them. I love the technology, the watch face and bezel design are gorgeous. However, I am not a fan of the case. I’d really like to see Omega bring that movement back to market in a modern speedmaster instead of using the modified ETA 7750 it uses in the speedmaster racing for example. Just a thought. And as always a great video.

I noticed you replied someone you watch has a 22mm lug width. I've just got myself one, a blue dial unpolished all original with syringe had but it has a 20mm lug width! Did earlier or later models change the shape case? I saw in another site (Hodinkee), both specs available for sale, 20mm & 22mm. Just curious

Nice X-15 footage as intro, however the hypersonic X-15 flight research program had nothing to do with Omega watches. At least seven of the twelve X-15 pilots wore the Accutron Astronaut tuning fork watch and William Pete Knight even wore his personal Rolex GMT-master on X-15 flights 188 and 190 in 1967 #MoonwatchUniverse

Hi there, excellent review - I’ve been watching / reading as much as I can on the Mk 3 as I plan to buy one. Are you able to pass on any tips for the novice? Or perhaps you offer a watching finding service?

Another great vid - I have been after a mark 111 for a few years with a silver dial. Found one at a watch fair recently but did not pull the trigger in the end for a few reasons. Be very interested in discussing this further and sharing thoughts if your interested?

Hi: what are the dimensions on this watch? Diameter with and without crown? Lug to lug distance? Band width? Height? Seems pretty tall... I'd never seen one of these- might need to start a patient and thorough search. Thank you!

    • @ArmandTheWatchGuy
      @ArmandTheWatchGuy  6 років тому

+substrate001: The dimensions are pretty large by contrast to an original Speedmaster but is actually both thinner and narrower than a co-axial Speedmaster. It is 41mm wide, 51.6mm from lug to lug, 15.9mm thick and 22mm between the lugs.

Nicely done review of a very cool mk. I love these but with a skinny wrist I don't think would work for me. I have a vintage mk2 which I truly love wearing. If I have a favourite mk it's probably the TV dial Mk4, really hope to buy one some day.

Thanks for a worthy addition to my knowledge base. Cool and interesting looking watch, definitely an interesting twist on a standard Seamaster. You're rocking the brown strap which amps up the uniqueness factor, but was it originally with a standard Speedmaster bracelet or did Omega give that the early Star Trek workover as well?

Its a bit to tall for me, but its lovely in its own way. You have the bracelet as well?

Interesting watch. I was switched back in time. That generation of Omegas included the big Blue Seamaster and the Flightmaster sharing the same case. I own a Flightmaster and the big issue is resistance to water... puchers and crowns (3) has been changed many times with original parts by local watchmakers. Oyster cases from Rolex are more reliable. It would be nice to hear a report regarding Seamaster automatic chronograh big blue 120.

Congratulations nice watch, not for me though. It sits way too high, I'm not a Speedmaster fan, for that matter not a chronograph fan. I have 2 chronographs , a Sandoz and a RGM and although they are both ok, I don't think I'll ever buy another, the small seconds are not for me, and just running the chronograph for no reason, not a good idea of what the ,I've been told. As always, great content and I learned a lot about how to source a new piece.

50 years old, fresh movement, new look dial, nice hands, COSC standard and finally with any scratches. You bought it so everything must be perfect. Finally I can't assume how someone wears such a piece of chunky metal on his wrist. Sorry but it is totally ridiculous.
