- I've always enjoyed the Co-axial Mark II. Though it is not everyone's flavor. You have to enjoy the large fit, retro styling, and bold accent elements. I particularly enjoy the radial case brushing, lumed tachymeter ring, checkered indexing, extendable clasp, and smooth column wheel chrono actuation. What do you think?

For me this is definitely the better Speedy out there! I just sold my classic Speedy Pro and now I feel this could have been the better choice years ago. Yes it's pretty thick but it's better in almost every way: Stop seconds, automatic movement, date, 100m WR, lumed tachymeter, way better bracelet as well as the co-axial escapement with it's amagnetic components... oh my. In addition, you would own a Speedy not everyone else has.
But I would go for the all black version as I like the monochromatic scheme more.
Owned this exact watch for a while. Just so impressed with the fit and finish of this piece. Stunningly well done for the money. If you like heft to your watch, this one has it. Heavy.
I had a Rio Olympic games edition, beautiful watch. The watch I regret most selling.
I like the orange. If I had unlimited funds, this is one of several Omegas I would own!

I love that watch! I love the colour highlighting and especially the bracelet and clasp. The case looks so retro, looks like it came straight out of a Bond movie from the early 1970s. Keep up the great work Bruce, 100K subs in 2021 😀
I’m a huge fan too Bruce. I love big chronographs like my vintage Seiko 6138s, Hamilton Pan Europ, etc. this very color scheme is on my list one day, either the more modern ones or vintage with the 861/1861 movements. Love your enthusiasm!
This piece is a favourite of mine, and now is ᴛʜᴇ time to pick one up... as everyone else is focussed on the 'new' Speedy.
Definitely not a 1st luxury watch though!, as cool as it is.
This is one to ᴀᴅᴅ to a larger collection.
I've always found it remarkable how much this piece shares with the original Explorer II ref. 1655! Never have 2 watches been so sɪᴍɪʟᴀʀ yet so ᴅɪғғᴇʀᴇɴᴛ!

Love the simple brushed bracelet and love the dial with the pop of orange and included date. Put this on a normal case and you have a huge winner that I would buy
I love it and just bought it on the secondary market. It's an icon and to me as an owner of the original model a must have. Like it much more than the Moon watch for its cleaner, more technical look and of course the colours that imply action. The Speedmaster Mk II Co-axial to me represent best from OMEGA (back in time it was ahead of Rolex!) and it deserves to become the Dytona from this brand because it's essentially the archetype of a chronometer born out of venture to reach out to space. Feel good after you video as we share the same feeling for this watch and the brand in general. Thanks!

Interesting design. I have a 2018 Seamaster 300 and I love the Speedmasters. This Mark 2 design is actually very stunning.
I have the 2 tone steel / sedna gold version. I have had around 5 years and still love the 70's style.
Great video Bruce on an unloved and under appreciated Speedmaster.

Love it, prefer the black dial without the orange tho...would take one over the classic moonwatch. Size wouldn't be a problem, my daily wear is a Khaki X Wind automatic chronograph.

The dial is attractive. I like the contrasting hand colors, makes sense. But it's way too thick.
I think it looks pretty balanced - at least on the bracelet.

Probably the better value propositions by the brand. And it’s a cool watch.
Wether you can handle such a tall watch is for you to decide.

This is my favourite racing chronograph... after my Heuer Autavia, that is! 😀 The Mark II was very highly regarded in my day, a worthy competitor to the iconic Autavia.

Love my ankle 2 the brushing on the case the AR coating with the distance between the flat sapphire and the dial gives a phenomenal depth and clarity that's not their on the Mk 1

Beautiful watch!! Definitely vintage flavor. It reminds me my loved LEMANIA A.M.I. (Aeronautica Militare Italiana) with caliber 5100. You would be surprised how much the OMEGA resambles the watch I'm talking about, including the bracelet!!. The LEMANIA was, during the 90's, the official Italian Air Force watch assigned to their pilots. As first Lt I received it in 1993. It is a SWISS MADE 40 mm case chronograph, 100 mt wr, screw down crown, hacking (of course), in house movement (mechanical-automatic winding) cal 5100 (48 hrs power reserve, 28.800 b/h, COSC certified), with blusted finish and sapphire glass: a real tool, a masterpiece!!

The Black dial version was and still is my first "proper" watch. I somehow dont get why this watch doesn't get the love it deserves. This is really the perfect steel chronograph in this price range. I love the 70s design language with the integrated Bracelet design. It is automatic, 10atm WR and still has an acceptable lug to lug width. Also the lumed tachymeter scale looks badass. Imo the most practical omega sports watch.

This is a cool watch. It’s a unique design, all the cool color pops. I’m still plenty happy with my 1861 Hesalite 😀.
Put my Omega Mark ii reissue with a racing dial on a notched (German made) black (velvety) buffalo style strap with fine white stitching - love it. Vertical clutch!
I own this same reference as well as several variants of the Speedmaster Professional running the 1861 movement. I find the 1861 to be very accurate to where I average about +2.5-3spd with them which is the same I get with the MKII. I will also say I don't get any rotor wobble as you mentioned.
I have a moon watch but I’d like this as well. Maybe one day

Had this mark ii in more traditional black and white, and while it is definitely chunky, I received many compliments on it from non-wis people. I think the large "stance" combined with the more subdued colorway worked well. I also prefer the dial details, texture, and layout better then the moonwatch. Only traded it for a 44.25mm speedy... And still miss the old mkii!
Excellent review Bruce! I feel like this was met with a lot of "Omega trying too hard" sentiments... But I think that's why I like Omega. They TRY and aren't afraid to miss.
Additional comment: as opposed to other much more vaunted brands that are an octagonal one-and-done
I love watching your reviews of Omega watches. I've been wanting to find in depth reviews of the 42mm Tag Heuer chronograph CBN2011.BA0642 but there aren't any good in depth reviews.

I love it too Bruce and I have now this design in the sinn 144 sa st from the 80’s (pvd black with the valjoux 7750) and I love it. I would prefer the MK40 version of the speedmaster now...

I love this watch and almost bought one a few years ago. Ultimately I passed on it. The watch has this incredible brushed finish on the case and all I could think about was how terrible I was going to feel when I scratched that finish and it didn’t look so good anymore
In fact the watch scratches super easily. But after a few years you get a really nice patina!
Mine's being serviced. Just 4 more weeks until reunification.
It's got a 70's feel in the case, and that colour combo is DAMN fine, but I'm bitter about the move upmarket that Omega is taking. It's a harder ask for sure.
Have it, love it. It's a bit too big in all directions. Would be interested in a metas version.
im semi Speedy obsessed, currently own 3 (hesalite, moonphase, regular darkside) and I used to HATE this watch…until i saw it in person and put it on my wrist. would love to get this AND the new speedmaster racing with the grey dial and Orange accents. like twins
I have thought about these a few times but never seen one in person (most ADs don’t seem to stock). I think I’d have a hard time the thickness, I’ve started to love the slim profile of my El Primero 42 too much. Cool watch though.

Nice review. I much prefer this design to the monochromatic moon watch which is iconic yet has never pressed my buttons. Fun and funky yet still sober in design. But the chunk and blockiness of the case would be prohibitive for me as I don’t go for heavy metal pieces.
Well I like it very much, I enjoy the feeling of the movement I understand it shouldn’t be present but it is and it’s well different!
Disappointed that there is no exhibition back, why why why do watch companies refuse to provide them on all cases? We pay for it , sometimes we buy the piece because of it but aren’t allowed to see it.....so frustrating.
Orange Chrono handset is great and should be copied by more brands. Does this baby come in the B I G box?
I am less sure about both the squared off lugs and lack of apex I guess need to wear it to see the actual effect. I hope it continues.

I think it's a great looking watch very cool & even better looking than the original. I've got a Seiko 6138 UFO & it has a very similar 1970s vibe!
I've always liked this watch. I would consider it perfect if not for the chrono minute hand... wish it were jumping instead of the sweeping type.

So 70’s. Cool! I prefer the model without the orange tho. Bet it feels like a couple of pounds on the wrist.
I’ve got the original Mk2, old rattletrap bracelet, it wears pretty well. You definitely know it’s there, but no porpoising or sliding. I can only imagine it’s better with a newer bracelet.
We can blame Omega for not pushing this watch more and more !

Love this omega as well...much more interesting than a MODERN speedy....you should check out the tissot heritage 1973 which is a more affordable version of this watch
I own a .005 Speedy, but I'd really love to own a Mk II someday (after I've managed to get a 2254.50!)
That orange detailing below the tachymeter scale and rehaut is just stunning! Great review, would prefer that one, even though the comparison to the moon watch seems unnecessary to me.

I love the dial and the bracelet, and the case shape is so cool looking but just way, way too thick. If it was like 10mm thick it would be an incredible watch.

The vintage MkII has more wearable dimensions and isn’t as much of a hockey puck. Plus it has the 861 movement.

Just another sign of the apocalypse, if you ask me. But with that said, I have a Rio Olympic 2016 version of the Mark II. It's a lump on the wrist, but I love it.
I wish that MK2 bracelet was on speedy pro. I wear my pro on a nato strap all the time.

Really love the watch but wish it was 40mm and 13-14mm thick. It's specs on paper aren't bad but man does it wear big. Beautiful watch.
I went with the Sinn 144. Looks similar with Valjoux based movement. 20 bar. Well finished and accurate.

It's a modified 7753 :) I'd put this against the Longines Spirit Chronograph which also has a 7753 modded with a column wheel and COSC certified chronometer.

The way the watch is so thick not just in the center, but all over--looks to me like I'd scratch it just from reaching for something.

I have both, the MKII wears larger, however the bracelet handles the heft very well.
SINN's 144St Sa and 144 St DIAPAL models are similar to this in design. Straight out of the '70s, these designs.

I tried on this watch years ago. The dial is really attractive but the case is too thick. Too top heavy.
I think it stood the test of time better than mark I.

Like the 70s vibe.To me a watch is foremost a timekeeper over a piece of jewellery. Still a quartz guy though.
