My sister worked with Dale’s wife. His wife looked for him on vacation time every year. She even saw a shaman/medicine man who told her he suffered something to his head (head injury or stroke) and that he would be found off the regular trail. He has been found but no cause of death could be determined. Im glad she found him for her closure.

*Update.* Sadly, not too long after you posted this video, Dave Stehling’s remains were found 4.2 miles from where he was last seen. The police got an anonymous tip that a body was found in a remote, off-limits section of park. Due to the state of the remains, they couldn’t determine a cause of death. A bizarre ending to a bizarre disappearance.

you might think so, but the human brain is very good at hearing what it expects to hear. wind and water can make all sorts of human like sounds that your brain will interpret as whatever you are listening out for. They could well have combed every corner of that cave and found nothing. it is also possible they didn't look hard enough (and for some reason he stopped calling out while they looked for him down there?), but no reason to assume negligence. In all honesty I legitimately can't imagine any grown adult getting lost at Mesa Verde or deciding not to carry a bottle of water with them at all times in that kind of environment. Everyone in this story except the girl who decided not to go looking for him by herself is at fault.

They do stuff like that and will keep doing stuff like that until the mental illness is diagnosed by a doctor. If they dont take their medicine they will have another mental break. Sometimes it's hard to get them back to normal. It's not unusual for someone like that to just jump in their car and just drive off somewhere without any thought of where their going. Or why. We deal with that kind of stuff all the time.

It reminds me of that one case where that guy was walking in his field (I think it was in like the early 1900s) and his wife is on the porch and his wife literally saw him disappear before her eyes. And she went out to where he was and she could barely hear him yelling for help and it sounded like it was underground. And so she called his brothers. And they could hear him calling for help too so they called in the police and volunteers and everyone started digging in that whole area where they heard him and after like 10 ft they hit bedrock. And he kept calling for help for days until he stopped.

Many years ago my very close friend and I hiked and camped on this very same area on the same creek. This was years before this young lady had gone missing. As we hiked in we kind of marveled at the fact there was ZERO wildlife. In the dense woods of N.W. Washington state its not uncommon to get into patches of woods where this is true, but this was for miles. The entire hike in we were both creeped out, speaking to one another often about it. Finally we came to a nice wide, flat spot along the creek and set up camp. My Buddy had a fire going and was in pretty good spirits, I how ever was still uneasy. That night we were both sleeping very fitful. I woke up to what sounded like a large animal running down the trail next to our tent, what was especially creepy was the breathing of the animal, it sounded like it was breathing very heavily, like I could hear panic in its breath. I have spent TONS of time deep in the woods of Washington around elk, deer and black bear, I’ve never heard an animal sound like that. The next morning we quickly packed up and headed back to the car, both of us looking over our shoulders. To this day we still talk about how weird that experience was.

Animals hunt one another in the night. They run away sometimes, that's probably what you heard and you should be happy they got away from the predator. If you factor in the effects of the permanent drought going on, you will realize native wildlife isn't finding enough food--they are literally starving in the forest. Invasive plants and insects don't help, they kill a lot of their trusted plant/animal sources as well.

Wow! I live in England & love going to parks & woods but they're not on your scale. First there's no predators like bears or wolves. They were hunted to extinction long ago. Then there's the false widow spider ( i'm so glad we don't have the real ones), which bite but survivable. Same with snakes, there are a few native to us but only one is venemous, the adder, which hasn't killed anyone since the 70s. I can't imagine putting the tent up & listening to breathing & movement all night. I would just 💩. Even with my husband & 2 big dogs beside me! Safe travels 🇬🇧🇺🇸

If it's a small opening, maybe along the side of a boulder with brush covering it, then it's understandable how they could hear but not actually find him. He's probably still down in that hole, and he's probably not the only one. That hole is probably awaiting more victims. Scarier than getting hit by lightning.

I use to go camping around Index, WA all the time when I was a kid. To say the least, that area is very unsettling. The woods were always very quiet. And it always felt like someone was watching.

I've grown up in Washington since middle school and can confirm that some of the woods here is odd. There was a woodsy area I hiked in when I was in high school just to walk around by myself. It wasn't too big of a wood area. Suddenly the noise just cuts out. There were no animal sounds at all. When I realized it, I stopped and looked around. I didn't think much of it until I took a couple steps and suddenly had an overwhelming feeling that I needed to get out of there and I was being watched. I was NOT welcome. So I left as quickly as I could and never went that deep in there again.

The trance angle needs to be researched. My 13 year old son almost disappeared on a trip we made to Mexico. We were staying in a hotel on the ground floor. My wife and I both woke up at the same moment in the middle of the night, that was strange in itself, and we were both noticing our two sons in the next bed. My eldest was sitting up. My wife called his name. He acted as if he didn't hear her. Then he stood up, walked to the sliding door, opened it, climbed over the railing on the patio and walked out onto the lawn alongside the pool. We called his name again and no response. He walked about 50 yards to the edge of the pool, stopped and stood for a full minute, then turned, walked back to the room, shut the door and laid back down. His movements throughout were robotic and trance-like, and his eyes were wide-open. The next morning we all woke up and asked him what he was doing. He had no recollection of the event whatsoever. We still have no explanation. This was beyond sleep-walking. And even if it wasn't, maybe what we call sleep walking is connected to some strange force that is trying to manipulate minds when they are in a low-alert, sleep-state. So many of these stories make me think of my son. I think, had we not awakened and seen the whole thing, with the ability to catch him before he could have gotten much further, I fear we would have lost him that night.

    • @GhostRanger5060
      @GhostRanger5060 4 роки тому +9

@@andrewbecker9062 I agree with you. But my point is, we really don't know "the why" behind sleepwalking. Your examples only confirm my point, that it is possible something can use this human weakness to lead people away... or if it's a brain issue like schizophrenia (which is caused by a chemical imbalance), then perhaps it explains why things like this happen to certain people. I have heard of people who "came to their senses" someplace after a long hike when not thinking about their surroundings or paying attention and suddenly realizing they were lost. Same concept.

One officer described a personal experience of making a two hour drive to another city in AZ for training -- I know what those roads in Northern AZ and New Mexico can be like -- mind-numbing. Anyway, he remembers making a turn on a bend in the road and then his mind went blank and when he "woke up" he was at his destination. The weird part wasn't just the "zoning out" but the fact that he also arrived 45 mins early. He says to this day he still can't account for the time difference or remember what happened at the moment he "zoned out." I had a similar experience when I lived in Hawaii. I clearly remember a strange man, a short Pacific Islander, walking up to me and saying something at the moment it happened. I lost 10 mins of time after that. Hahaha, I remember because I was sure I had been hypnotized and robbed because I was standing in front of a bank machine. But no, I still had all my money and credit cards. It was also reported and investigated the day previous to his disappearance. Possibly it was just a trick of the wind, a mischief maker or someone/thing more sinister.

@Makko Senpai people over 40 or so were taught foul language displays no class by their parents. It actually takes away from the story for them. Parents were more conservative back then and taught their kids manners. Whether you like it or not it’s written in their DNA and can’t be easily changed in their minds. Not to mention these stories are appropriate for some of the younger audience and we as parents appreciate a clean story.

About the first case, people tend to forget that sometimes humans just... snap. I've heard so many stories of regular people who just became erratic suddenly, doing weird things and going weird places. When these situations happen and there's people around they can usually get help, but if the person is alone there's a huge probability that they will get lost and/or hurt. People are fascinating.

For the story with Dale -- I have heard of natural places where sound gets funnelled strangely, and echoes can seem to be coming from a different direction than the source. I wonder if folks were hearing an echo of Dale calling for help and he was actually somewhere else.

Check out "The Disappearance of Charles Ashmore" by Ambrose Bierce. It deals with that very idea. (It's fictional, but other people believed it was real, and versions of the myth still turn up in books on paranormal phenomena from time to time.)

Good call. Our house does this. Sounds as if a neighbour is to one side of the house but it's just sound bouncing around. It's a really weird effect as we have no neighbour on the side where the voices seem to be coming from.

I used to live and work off of Highway 2 in Washington. And solo backpacked a lot out there. The geography out there is some of the most dense I've experienced and it's a miracle that she even had the wherewithal to sustain herself with Huckleberry and stream water. Even more impressive she didn't succumb to hypothermia. Stoked to hear of a good ending.
