My love for exploring abandoned high schools is never ending. Thanks for the support friends. Make sure you connect with me on social media and let me know your thoughts... Enjoy!
What I love about your videos is the background you give before exploring. A lot of the urban ‘explorers’ just wander around saying ‘whoa’ and ‘wow’ without any context for the place like you give.
I graduated in 05 it's heartbreaking to see my school like that. Driving past it is hard enough, but seeing inside... You walked by my old locker. 🥺 So many memories!
I cry everytime I come across this video. I remember exploring this school 2 years after closing and just crying. I graduated class of 2010 🙌 miss My high-school!
This was my high school! Sooooo many memories. I graduated 2006. This video gave me chills to see it this way. They recently tore the whole school down. So sad. Thank you for this video.
I attended Southwestern in the mid 90’s and graduated from here. I have to say it’s disheartening to see this school in this condition. I read someone’s comment and I wondered if we went to the same school. This school was a great and I have many found memories of the students and staff and when I was there, yes we utilized the Pool area because we had a swim team. It’s funny because as you explore and narrate through the hallways of what you’re now seeing as a disaster, I can still see all the good memories. Thanks for your exploration video!
That was a huge school. My heart hurts. I was born and raised in Detroit and it hurts to see the decay and decline. I graduated from Henry Ford High in 75. I left because I didn't want to raise my kids there with no opportunities and sub standard schools. My sibs are still there and their kids have fled for other states too. Detroit was a great city until the auto industry decided to abandon it. Then all the other factories that were auto related left too taking thousands of jobs. I remember either Firestone or Goodyear was downtown for years near Belle Isle. The smell from the rubber stayed in the grounds and buildings for years long after they had closed down. I never knew anyone from Southwestern since I lived far north near Northland Mall which has closed down too. So sad.
Crazy how abandoned place in Detroit can be closed of 5-10 yrs and look like it's been abandoned for 20-30 yrs. You got building here in NC been closed for 30-40 yrs and still looks more kept then these places.
I grew up in Detroit. Graduated in 92 from Denby HS. I had no idea Kettering was gone. This was a really good documentary. Thank you for doing this. I found your comment about Cosmetology interesting. Did you disagree with the school offering it as a study? I think that was very relevant and a bit forward thinking of the school to offer students that subject. It helps them with skills and maybe entrepreneurship. Thanks for the channel and doing this!
You are the best in urban exploration! Love your content. Spent 7 years traveling all over Detroit as an Army recruiter during my 25 years in Army. I always have a special fondness for Detroit.
The clock that hung up there didn't even work half of the time.🤣 All the memories popping up in my head watching this video I have to find your video from Phoenix multicultural Academy I graduated from there in 2006.
I cannot believe he leaves no stone uncovered...LOL. He certainly do not want to miss anything nor fail to miss opening a door or climbing up or down a staircase. Yet, we watch patiently hoping no pest jumps out at him. Thank you, you're doing a great job. Kettering here.

Always check out the boiler area and the furnace area never know what you will find just like that covered stairwell were did that go to. Also the maintenance room if you can find it.
So many memories there I remember the whole building like yesterday the building never been in great shape and in the morning it was a foul smell that used to come from the pool area that was off limits to students...
They did, I was there when he donated the floor. It looked really awesome - don't have any pictures of it. He also donated the computer lab that was across from the main office.
Subbed, really interesting video, thanks for presenting information about the school so well at the start then following it up with the awesome footage, well made man!
That library had a lot of nice wood bookcases....I was able to walk through the school just before the actual auction... A friend of mine bought a bunch of stuff from there.....
Those dim yellow lights in the first hallway is just creepy and scarry to look at. But very astheticaly pleasing for an abandoned school. Always get dreams of hallways with those colored lights in a narrow hallway

Thanks for your videos Man , Love your positive view of OUR CITY , I like getting downtown and enjoying its energy that you show in your videos and rooting for it to continue to grow and thrive , but at the end of the day sure like coming home to my own neighborhood of GREEN ACRES . Not sure if you are familiar with this part of town in northwest Detroit that's wedged in between sherwood Forest and Palmer woods but with smaller more maintainable property's and just a GOOD CHOICE for those of us that perfer living in single family homes within the city limits .BEST OF LUCK with the restaurant that I heard you speak of in your videos
I used to live in that area... Livernois and 7 mile. Many of my relatives stay in Sherwood Forest. I went to U of D Jesuit on 7 mile at one point also. So I know exactly what you’re talking about. There are great things happening along the avenue of fashion 😉
Fascinating video thanks for posting! Im from Jersey there's a few abandoned casinos down in Atlantic City, I think we need to send you in to get some footage. Always struck curiousity with me. Stay safe out there.
What is not mentioned that from 1968 through 1976, had the awards winning concert , jazz, and marching band. Had one of the baddest marching band in the state, it was show time for us, one band , one Style, one sounds, Who the best in the west the Big SO,
Great shots... I've always wanted to see the inside of this school. My dad attended there, star player on the basketball team... He came out in 1981, he died in 1985. I sure wish you could've gotten glimpse of the gym.... Thanks much for the tour!
The gym was redone in 2009 2010 By a basketball player that graduated from Southwestern high school. It was beautiful We had blue Seats that pushed into the wall and pulled out to make this a bigger gym Between the gym and the library those were the 2 biggest parts of the school. The floor had yellow and blue with the prospect around it and it had a few different names of people who donated to to help build the new gym. I graduated in 2010 I missed the school so much it was a beautiful school with tons of history behind it 22 separate 3rd floors that we were not allowed to enter. There's so much more history on this building it's just terrible the way that they let the school go and all those who went to Southwestern and decided to go in and just destroy it it's terrible it's a part of history shame.
Wow millions spent to build pool ... twice ! ... Sounds like whoever run this project cut corners, twice and filled their own pockets ! Very sad ... and whoever is in charge of this building now, doesn’t know what they’re doing ... or do they ? Who has being paying the electricity ? Thanks for the video, look forward to watching the rest ... subscribed 🤔
Anton , As always great explore !! And yes you have steel gonads without question going into these places solo !!! Was it the gymnasium that you missed when you said, I feel like I'm missing something ???
That’s absolutely correct... but there was a couple issues. 1st, they may have actually torn the gym down. 2nd, I seen security looking for me outside the windows 😂
I went to Southeastern High School but my family moved away in1986 to the south little did i know at that time in the next 25 years millions of families would leave
@@AntonDaniels nba star Jalen rose went there they were one Michigan best basketball teams ever besides magic Johnson high school in Michigan. That school was great for basketball because of it's high school alumni few celebrities went there the computer room was named after nba star and espn reporter Jalen rose from the fab 5 Michigan wolverines
I love how you explore my city. I'm in Oak park just north of Detroit and drive with Lyft. I pass by them abandoned places nearly everyday and wonder the stories behind them and what they look or looked like inside. One cool spot is the abandoned Belle Isle Zoo. I went by there and it brought back memories when I was a kid that went there on a class field trip in 1st grade before abandonment. I like the abandoned schools, parks, factories, warehouses, offices, restaurants, and bowling allies. There are some interesting abandoned buildings right in Hazel Park and Warren and several in Pontiac. And the Summit Place Mall that is now torn down. Neat looking forward to more videos.
Yea all the Murray students went to Southwestern because the closer of Murray. Kids from the Jeffery projects went there those kids were dangerous westside kids
Way cleaner than when my husband and I went in there. We both graduated in 01. Never had use of the pool while we were there. They closed it down at periods of time. The football field hadn't gotten updated yet. You did walk around the gym lol. The gym was horrible when we were in there. Now I'm wondering what was on the fourth floor again. I've always wondered why no one was allowed up there and where the staircase was for it. We also just walked right in but we got caught by the cops. They let us go bc I was very pregnant and we were just looking. Lol
It was used for storage but no one was allowed to have classes up there and we weren't allowed to go up there because there was no windows so due to air flow we weren't allowed up there but there was really nothing up there a few classrooms like I said no windows and a bunch of seats desks. I'm glad they let you go! I went in 2 years after it closed And ran into company A few randoms just trying to stay warm sure that's scared the The begeebers out of me! So we left.
@@bossyaf5993 I was more worried about running into other people, too. The cops were nice. My husband is a big Samoan-looking guy. They actually let him go back for some stuff and then escorted us out, but super nice.
@bossyaf5993 someone said in the comment section of a different video of this high school that that fourth floor was originally a lounge for the seniors but was closed in the 1970s for some reason.

A detroit building is usually ruined 6 months after its vacant due to scrappers.
@oh no exactly, which is why detroit is still doomed. They havent even slowed down the scrapping and looting in large parts of the city

What is not mentioned that from 1968 through 1976, had the awards winning concert , jazz, and marching band. Had one of the baddest marching band in the state, it was show time for us, one band , one Style, one sounds,
Who the best in the west the Big SO,
good job
I love the library at Cooley Has a cool Stair case in it.
Stay out of there 😂
Anton Daniels lol!!
Great shots... I've always wanted to see the inside of this school. My dad attended there, star player on the basketball team... He came out in 1981, he died in 1985. I sure wish you could've gotten glimpse of the gym.... Thanks much for the tour!
Thank you for the feedback
I’d be scared to walk through there; I’d think I’d be animals or death in there air lol
Nice, Interesting video. Thank you.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it
Thanks for doing this. This is really cool
That auditorium looks like Kino Der Toten from Black Ops 1 zombies
😂
Wow it’s really been cleaned out since We were in there 2 years ago. Great video!
Thank you
they should make these into like a community center or big paintball gun range activity center for kids on streets
Graduated in 08 sad to see this place in that condition
It should be torn down soon.
@@AntonDaniels yup
Another great video keep them coming
Thanks bro, you know I will
That's Jalen Rose Alma Mater!
sweet tour anton
Thank you friend
7:30 likely the office/counselor area. It's So tore up, everything looks the same LOL
😂
It's the main office 🙌🙌
I love and miss this school!
Minus the lights being on, I'd swear you were walking through a building in Chernobyl. What a difference a 100 years makes.
It will probably come all the way down soon.
Man that pool was the sh*t 13 feet deep sad to see it closed
Good Video
Thank you
Anton , As always great explore !!
I didn’t get a notification for this video and didn’t find it till now thanks UA-cam
😂😂😂
I was going through some of my moms stuff and found her report card from 1937 Detroit Southwestern High School.
Wow! That’s insane. What are you going to do with it?
@@AntonDaniels It"s a keepsake. She was a A and B student. I can count on one hand how many times I saw grades like that on my report cards.
Thanks... I’ve explored the Belle Isle Zoo also
Fascinated with Detroit school building myself. one thing about Detroit never tried to save none of they high School.
The 08 crash decimated everything. It was about survival then... no one was focused on anything outside of that.
I'm from Harlem they want to buy my apartment. If so I would love to invest the money and buy a house in Detroit and a great neighborhood
@ Anton Daniels
Good tour buddy
Thanks my friend
Good video, new to this, I like it
Thanks 🙏🏾
My dad went to this high school... pretty cool
What year did he graduate?
Anton Daniels I think 1986 or 1987
I went to the sister high school western lots of memories but my love was for Murry Wright where I went to my freshman to junior year
Yea all the Murray students went to Southwestern because the closer of Murray. Kids from the Jeffery projects went there those kids were dangerous westside kids
@@slash4real872u a b####h bro
Will you be dropping any abandoned videos again ?
Way cleaner than when my husband and I went in there. We both graduated in 01. Never had use of the pool while we were there. They closed it down at periods of time. The football field hadn't gotten updated yet. You did walk around the gym lol. The gym was horrible when we were in there. Now I'm wondering what was on the fourth floor again. I've always wondered why no one was allowed up there and where the staircase was for it. We also just walked right in but we got caught by the cops. They let us go bc I was very pregnant and we were just looking. Lol
😂 I’ve never gotten “caught”
They used it for storage, I remember a teacher taking our class down the stairwell as a short cut
