- Should you go to Lviv, Ukraine? I travelled to volunteer with Frontline Kitchen, who prepare food for the defenders of Ukraine on the frontline, 14 months into Russia’s full-scale invasion.

How safe is it to visit? What is life like in Lviv today? What is volunteering with Frontline Kitchen like? What else can I do in Lviv to volunteer?
From the fun and camaraderie of the kitchen, to the devastating Lychakiv Cemetery, where the defenders of Ukraine from Lviv who have died in this war are buried. From the music and hidden bars of the city, to a city tour with @nastyaverba.ukraine which takes in historic figures who have kept the flame of Ukrainian identity and independence alive.
Filmed: GoPro Hero 10, GoPro Hero 7, iPhone XR, Insta360 OneX
Edited: LumaFusion for iPad
Music: Welcome to Ukraine, JKLN; Dramatic Tension for the Story, Jeff Hanley (Storyblocks).

Hey Barry, just discovered your lovely Front Line Kitchen report as I was looking for volunteer information - I am planning to go and help in Lviv in March 2024!
(Erik from The Netherlands).
That’s so great to hear Erik! I was back again in late October / early November and there are more opportunities than ever to help (I will put up a short video soon). Your visit will be hugely appreciated by Ukrainians and all the international volunteers too, well done. If you’ve any questions, let me know, I’d be happy to help.
👍😎
I'm strongly considering to go and help already with rebuilding where needed, even if only for 3 weeks. And I won't be able to make an extremely big difference. But everything helps. Most likely everyone who cares about me will call me crazy and be worrying. But I think it's needed and worthwhile
Three weeks would be a fantastic contribution. One thing which is very humbling when there is the gratitude of Ukrainians towards foreign volunteers. Given the scale of the sacrifice and loss being experienced by Ukrainians, for the sake of the safety of the whole continent, to receive such thanks for short-term volunteering work speaks volumes of the character of the people. I think it’s the sense of solidarity they feel from foreign volunteers is what generates the response.
Yes, people might worry, and while it is of course not as safe as most western countries, there are sensible steps one can take to protect yourself. I hope you get to go, and I think you’ll find it very rewarding, and you’ll be surprised how much you will be able to contribute.
I'm coming as I finish teaching high school Zaza Napa California
Great to hear Zaza, I think you’ll find it an extraordinary experience.
I was there 2 weeks ago. Meet Richard from @Frontlinekit
Awesome report. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, much appreciated!

Hi ! I would like to get a tour guide there . Any details from the woman on the video ? Thanks !
Hi Piensaya. Nastya is not doing tours right now, as she is will be a new mother very shortly. I will see if I can find any recommendations for tour guides from my friends still in Lviv, and let you know.
@@BarryKenny thankyou for your response, i will go there in 3 weeks, and i would like to do a few tours around the city. Very kind of you.
Sorry for the delay, Yurii Tsybukh was recommended to me - you can find out about his tours, dates and times on his Telegram channel t.me/Tsybukh_tours
😢😢😢😢😢😢💔😭
Wow berry. How u know about my home city lviv?
Hi Jerry, I had for many years wanted to visit Lviv, as it is very beautiful. I did not expect to visit for the first time during a war, but I was glad I did. I plan to return later in the year. 💪 🇺🇦
@@BarryKenny cool please do more vedios in lviv.
Where can you stay while you are volunteering at the frontline kitchen
Hi Robert, there are actually a lot of options, on both booking.com and on AirBnb. As I was there a relatively short time, I booked a hotel - Best Western - bang in the centre for about €50 a night. I know some people on long stays were spending less than €10 a night on apartments a little outside the centre.
Looks pretty easy to get into Ukraine by train from Poland.
Yes, border control at station in Poland and on board for Ukraine so quite straightforward.

Where did you buy the ticket from Przemyśl to Lviv?
I bought it directly on the Ukrainian Railways website. Tickets come available to buy about 20 days before travel.
I always got an error when trying to buy using my card directly, but when I used Apple Pay, it went through. Don’t ask me why this is!!
@@BarryKenny Thanks. I got an error, sadly. Do you know if you can buy them on the train or in Przemsyl?
@@BarryKenny everything worked now! Thanks for your help :)
Great! Are you going to the kitchen or travelling for something else?
@Barry Kenny I want to volunteer at the kitchen and the animal shelter. Are there any things in Lviv and around that you would recommend?
