Should you visit Chisinau, Moldova's tourist-free capital city?

Should you visit Chisinau, capital of Moldova? Perhaps Europe's least visited country, Moldova - and Chisinau - notoriously got a scathing review from Bald and Bankrupt back in 2019. Today, it's challenges remain: and as well as a weak economy, it's now hosting tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees from the illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Welcome to antártica chilena 🇨🇱👍
I hope Orca didn't sponsor. I'd be devastated if you advertised my product by not being able to pump it up.
Haha, no they didn’t - to be fair, pumping is simple, it was the pump operator that was the problem!! A great board, still going strong.
This was such a great video, you definitely brought a lot of craic to this trip!!
Thanks Mairead, glad you enjoyed it and that the craic came across in the video, it really was great fun as well as awe-inspiring!

That’s great, with Refugee Support Europe, you can apply to volunteer at this link: www.refugeesupporteu.com/volunteer-with-us/ Best of luck, I hope you get to do it!
Amazing video! thank you for sharing your adventure! I have question, what kind of channels do they have on the TV in the room?
Thanks so much, delighted that you enjoyed watching! There’s no TV channels as such, but there is a good selection of movies and TV programmes to “stream” as it were - I was too busy and didn’t watch any, so can’t remember what they have, but I remember thinking it was a good selection. Within that, there are of course Antarctic-themed shows and movies too. However, the in-room screen is mainly focused on ship activities and excursions. They had a live feed from the Ambassador theatre so you could rest and watch lectures from your room. The daily schedule was there as was an updating map showing the ship’s position. You could also check your bill for onboard purchases on the screen, learn more about the ship, check out spa services, and read info about the expedition team.

I'm on deck 3 with a single share. Did you get upgraded to higher level. Really would like to be higher up
Hi Judy, no I booked the balcony twin share, so it wasn’t an upgrade, just that no other male booked the twin share, so I had it all to myself. I hope you have a great trip, when are you going?
Sorry mate, just seen video 2 and you have sorted it. Electric pump is a must have, first thing I invested in. Enjoy 😊
Isn’t it just! The manual pump was a great way to find out the limits of my fitness though… 🙈
Nice video, just one thing and you are probably aware now. Your paddle is the wrong way round 😊
I’ve seen quite a few vlogs and this blows the others out of the water. Brilliantly done! As a solo traveler meeting other like minded people is so important and I just hope when I book my adventure that I have as much fun as you all clearly did 😊
Thanks so much for such a generous comment, I really appreciate it! I hope you’ll get to book soon and meet some great people on your adventure.
This was such a joy to watch. I was smiling the whole time. Much respect for sharing your adventure. I will definitely be rewatching for research when I venture to Antarctica very soon.
Thanks so much Andres, that’s such a kind comment. Enjoy the research and your own Antarctic adventure!
Love your video of Antartica. Booking an expedition for January 2026 just trying To figure out which vessel. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thanks Teddy - I can certainly recommend Ultramarine, but there are so many great choices! Enjoy the planning: I was like you, I booked in April 2022 for a January 2024 trip.
@@BarryKenny planning in advance is the key.

Wow 🙀🙀
Fantastic video Barry. We were partway through our research looking at so many ships and tours and have now settled on the same trip on Ultramarine in part due to your video. Thank you for telling a great story of your journey.
Thanks so much, glad it was of help to you! I remember that myself, trying to decide which ship and weighing up all the options. Needless to say, very happy with my choice!! Best of luck with your own visit.

I'm coming as I finish teaching high school Zaza Napa California
Great to hear Zaza, I think you’ll find it an extraordinary experience.
Hi Barry, incredible video !! Loved it. Planning to book a trip with Ultramarine. May I know what were your cruise dates ? Thanks.
Thank you Atul! My dates were 5th to 14th January. It’s a special ship, I hope to be back on it some day, maybe in Greenland!
Hi, Barry, great video. I am looking to book a trip, so if I may ask... I have been told these Quark ships carry 100+ guests. So with 100 on board, you were all able to disembark at once for landings? If not, how did that work and how time consuming was the process? More importantly, how long were the landing trips? I mean how much time did you spend on land during each excursion? Thanks in advance!
Hi Chetan, thanks, I appreciate it! Our ship had a maximum of 199 passengers, and we had 196 on our trip. They planned activities very well so that when landings were happening, others were kayaking / paddleboarding, so everyone who wanted to disembark could do so. They also had us broken into four groups to coordinate numbers well. For a full landing, they were about 2 hours, and were combined with mini-zodiac cruises.
Thanks for the information and reply. Cheers.@@BarryKenny
You mentioned Deception Island: did you sail through Neptune's Bellows into the caldera? (my own trip was a reverse of yours - DI was my last stop in Antarctica and where I went for a little swim)
We did indeed, what an introduction to Antarctica it was!
'Riders to the Sea' brought me here... Truly fascinated. Thank you for the lovely footage.
Thanks, very kind of you!
you said using one for the first time, then 2 months later! So after pumping it up, you didn't attempt to stand up and use it for 2 months, and then got up the first time when you did?
Hi Michael, I got it just after Christmas so not unusual for Irish weather not to cooperate over a few weekends. And yes, I was surprised too how I took to it - I assumed it would be the clown show that my surfing efforts had been, but the one lesson I took from other YT videos was “stand either side of the handle”. The boards are sturdy, and it was very calm. Full disclosure, I had stood on a board on holidays about 5 years earlier, without instruction, and with fairly regular falls! And also had a “beginners” informal session a few months earlier, that was worth doing just to see if it was worth buying (again, quite a few falls). But that was my first use of that board, and assuredly as a novice!
Hi ! I would like to get a tour guide there . Any details from the woman on the video ? Thanks !
Hi Piensaya. Nastya is not doing tours right now, as she is will be a new mother very shortly. I will see if I can find any recommendations for tour guides from my friends still in Lviv, and let you know.
@@BarryKenny thankyou for your response, i will go there in 3 weeks, and i would like to do a few tours around the city. Very kind of you.

Hey Barry, just discovered your lovely Front Line Kitchen report as I was looking for volunteer information - I am planning to go and help in Lviv in March 2024! (Erik from The Netherlands).

Definitely caught our attention! 🫨 I’ll try with ice next time I’m there.
I like your SUP videos very much. On Saturday 09/09/23 I got my Goosehill board out of its box and pumped it up (with the valve in the wrong position of course). Third attempt, I did it correctly. Then down the beach, Ramsey, Isle of Man, to give myself a lesson. Having fallen in within 2 minutes of standing, I got back on in shallow water and paddled across the bay. As I got between the 2 concrete piers, the flow of the Sulby river, which empties there, caused me to lose it and in I went again. I then found out that remounting is a lot harder when you can't touch the bottom. As a poor swimmer, I was glad of my life jacket. After some breast stroke and a kind of back stroke, I was able to reach the shallows and get on and then spent about an hour building a bit of confidence on a mill pond sea, only falling once. Today, 11/09/23, I went out on a very slightly choppy sea with a light breeze and fell immediately on my 2 attempts to stand. I decided that I really need the water to be quite flat at this stage, so I gave up. I'm hoping to do better tomorrow. BTW, saw a clip on YT in which someone recommended a length of line with a "stirrup" on the end to aid remounting; this to be connected to the carrying handle.
Thanks John - I hope you keep trying, and get some calmer conditions!
Oh man , that large dangling carrot is pulling even harder ..😊😘
🥕 grab the carrot! 😝🇺🇦💪
I'm strongly considering to go and help already with rebuilding where needed, even if only for 3 weeks. And I won't be able to make an extremely big difference. But everything helps. Most likely everyone who cares about me will call me crazy and be worrying. But I think it's needed and worthwhile
Three weeks would be a fantastic contribution. One thing which is very humbling when there is the gratitude of Ukrainians towards foreign volunteers. Given the scale of the sacrifice and loss being experienced by Ukrainians, for the sake of the safety of the whole continent, to receive such thanks for short-term volunteering work speaks volumes of the character of the people. I think it’s the sense of solidarity they feel from foreign volunteers is what generates the response. Yes, people might worry, and while it is of course not as safe as most western countries, there are sensible steps one can take to protect yourself. I hope you get to go, and I think you’ll find it very rewarding, and you’ll be surprised how much you will be able to contribute.
Pour une première fois, c'est très bien 👍
Merci bien Rudy!

@@BarryKenny Good man Barry, an excellent video. I went to Inis Meain some 8 years ago. Loved it.
Good looking board. I have a blue fin carbon 10'8 board . Thanks for the video. Always put your board in the water back wards, its protects the fins. Turn the blade as you end your stroke and dont paddle past your feet as you are pushing the board down, reduces speed.! great video.
