Witcher 2 improved on numerous things but it did lose something too. In terms of atmosphere and presentation Witcher 3 is much more reminiscent of Witcher 1 than 2, which in retrospect is probably the biggest advantage of the first game over the second. And even when we dissect things a bit further, a lot of themes and complexity present in Witcher 3 has already in Witcher 1, just under the (even then) aged graphics and mechanics. Witcher 2's presentation feels way more like generic, modern fantasy.
