Did you notice the trap he set? He said someone called his show and he asked this person what's a policy position he likes of Trumps. The caller mentions the wall. Pakman then asks "so if he doesn't get that done, you would still vote for him?". The caller says "yes I still would" and pakman says "see, it's not about policy". The problem with pakmans argument is that specific caller never said that's the ONLY reason he would vote for him. But Pakman framed him as an idiot. You could just as easily do the same trap with democrats.

So a little context to that, the Germans were laughing at him for saying Germany was going to be mainly dependent on Russian oil and how the US shouldn’t keep footing the bill to NATO, when Germany is totally dependent on Russia. Well, that's how a debate works. If you object to an ASSERTION made by one side, you ask for evidence. DId Patrick provide any? No actually he immediately replied with 'there is no data' and then replied that he never said 'there is no data' because he thought his own response made him look bad. PBD has a long history of one sided discussion; he talks, we watch videos. It shows in how quickly he responds poorly, or how upset he clearly gets trying to make his points. He's a great resource for business advice, but a host/debater/political commentator he IS NOT. And it shows.

Asking questions that require data without warning the opponent the data is needed before, is a bad faith argument. They obviously have no chance to fairly represent the data. If you knew your points would address those topics, and you felt your points are strong you would tell your opponent before hand to prepare the data. Otherwise its just a weak gotcha...

In the past, I often disagreed with David Pakman, but I enjoyed listening to him because he was fairly principled and articulate. He’s now latched onto the woke narrative like so many others. Sad but predictable.
I used to watch Pakman back early Trump years and even then I couldn't understand why there was such vitriol specifically for Trump despite Obama being a 8 year disaster and that cracked my foundation and made me who I am today. Anyone still watching this guy has that room temp IQ no cap.

But just wanted to respectfully offer a different take. I've heard PBD be really patient and just listen to others on his podcast at times, and in this instance, I didn't feel like he did that. Seemed like he was looking for a "gotcha" moment. If his goal is to share ideas, then backing someone into a corner isn't the best way to do that, in the way that he did. I'm basically talking about how he said Pakman loses credibility b/c he doesn't remember every poll number or statistic. He also kept calling him an expert on polls which Pakman never said he was. Pakman was ready to discuss things based on looking up the stats or polls, but PBD wouldn't move off the fact that Pakman didn't know it off hand. And in my opinion that part of the discussion never moved forward. I would have like PBD to just look up the numbers and then discuss based on that. That would have been in better faith than the way he did it which is how he's usually done it with some other guests i've heard. Just my opinion. I'm not a leftist or Pakman follower.

Hate Trump if you want but to act as if he’s so different from other leaders is just naive. To pretend it’s all good and perfect on the left and nothing good has happened from the right shows you are delusional. All these presidents have more in common than not. This exchange is what I admire most of Patrick and his ability to organize his thinking without letting emotion get in the way and lose his train of thought. I wish I had that ability.
I will admit he has this wonderful ability to remain even keel while citing mostly anecdotes as evidence. However, as many studies have indicated, I realize that his audience leverages most of their decision making or assessment skills from their amygdala (as opposed to their ACC/PFC) so it clearly resonates with them. David is just data-driven which is never going to resonate with conservatives.
PBD has very little knowledge of how politics are performed internally and perceived externally. His entire position this whole conversation was mind numbingly frustrating. Knowledge is power, due diligence and research would've make this a much more productive conversation but PBD perpetual anecdotes and animosity made this an absurd watch.

if a host invites someone on their show to debate a specific subject, the host should know something about the subject being discussed. not just repeating things he's heard and how he feels.
You do know most conversations all they are is opinions the host invited somebody on their show about a certain subject to hear his side of the story to hear his opinion on it to hear his experience on it, and then the host will play devils advocate that’s the point to bring somebody want to learn to understand to throw curveballs. Anyone who studies data for a living can tell you that data can be shaped to represent anything you want, especially if you can define the acceptance criteria, and that there are intangibles that can't easily be measured. Also, when it comes to the POTUS, people like Pakman are looking for someone to engineer society a certain way, while other people are looking for alignment with the Constitution. There are people who would prefer a restrained President who restricts their actions to those authorized by Article 2. By Pakman's logic, that president would be a complete failure due to lack of activity, even though his acceptance criteria are completely different than those of other people.

Pakman then asks "so if he doesn't get that done, you would still vote for him?". The caller says "yes I still would" and pakman says "see, it's not about policy". The problem with pakmans argument is that specific caller never said that's the ONLY reason he would vote for him. But Pakman framed him as an idiot. You could just as easily do the same trap with democrats.

But just wanted to respectfully offer a different take. I've heard PBD be really patient and just listen to others on his podcast at times, and in this instance, I didn't feel like he did that. Seemed like he was looking for a "gotcha" moment. If his goal is to share ideas, then backing someone into a corner isn't the best way to do that, in the way that he did. I'm basically talking about how he said Pakman loses credibility b/c he doesn't remember every poll number or statistic. He also kept calling him an expert on polls which Pakman never said he was. Pakman was ready to discuss things based on looking up the stats or polls, but PBD wouldn't move off the fact that Pakman didn't know it off hand. And in my opinion that part of the discussion never moved forward. I would have like PBD to just look up the numbers and then discuss based on that. That would have been in better faith than the way he did it which is how he's usually done it with some other guests i've heard. Just my opinion. I'm not a leftist or Pakman follower.

However, as many studies have indicated, I realize that his audience leverages most of their decision making or assessment skills from their amygdala (as opposed to their ACC/PFC) so it clearly resonates with them. @@joeyr8018I'm not a PBD fanboy, but Pakman's assertion is that we should only speak about that which we can measure. Anyone who studies data for a living can tell you that data can be shaped to represent anything you want, especially if you can define the acceptance criteria, and that there are intangibles that can't easily be measured.
Also, when it comes to the POTUS, people like Pakman are looking for someone to engineer society a certain way, while other people are looking for alignment with the Constitution. There are people who would prefer a restrained President who restricts their actions to those authorized by Article 2. By Pakman's logic, that president would be a complete failure due to lack of activity, even though his acceptance criteria are completely different than those of other people.
