- Lyrically amazing track....he flips verbs and nouns so well..... bars that flow without seam, transitioning from detailed description to elaborate story to elongated metaphor fluidly.
There's so much SOUL in this track.
The soul of many ancestors from many lands. Many indeed.
This is a hidden gem one of the best rap flows I’ve heard
Lupe is crazy inspirational and deep -- Jay Z said it best that he's "a breath of fresh air" to the hip hop industry.
This song is insane! I love Lupe.
"said what up to the reaper, hell met like ridell" who thinks of this...only lupe
If this isn’t one of the hardest tracks ever written I don’t wanna listen to music.
i really hope that by the time i'm a grandfather (in some 40 or so years) people will actually praise this mans genious and message. he really deserves to be awarded and appreciated by all of society and not just the few that choose to think above the bar and choose to see through all social, racial, and economic classes.
I or life lol lol I'll.oooo.o.p..op .oopoooioo.oiii.mooo.mpoioioiioooio
I or life lol lol I'll.oooo.o.p..op .oopoooioo.oiii.mooo.mpoioioiioooio
"i author/arthur like D.W bother, like hustler.
God place me ya armor,i prescribe no partners."
Brooooooooooooooo
In a world where most of everything we hear is derived from some generic societal "norm" it's nice to hear something different, eye opening and so well-done. Lupe's music is, in a way, a kind of "escape into reality" were he makes you think about the world, but doesnt feed you the worlds BS
The most underrated hip hop song ever. lyrically incredible...the beat is untouchable..perfect song right here.
cant lie this is my favorite lupe song ever, an my whole i-pod is filled with him, this song just brings out such emotion with me an makes me realize how special life is an how you only get one chance to do something positive an you can never have fear.
same here...i used to ride to it on repeat everyday to work...i learned the lyrics then and knew it was one of the illest tracks in hip hop all time b/c of all the double and triple entendres and the wordplay...this track was and still is amazing to me and gives me chills!!!!!
"tell em not to shiver just quiver like an archer"
damn it! lupe!
the quiver holds the arrows close together.==parable about "seven sons"==alternate meaning of quiver(shake) == opposite meaning of it's application in this verse
GENIUS!!!
"I do it for my hood like a parka" Parkas have hoods/hoodies. AHHHHHH! Lupe you beast.
How do you describe his genius? Literally I have never had my mouth drop in amazement at ANY artist in my life. My whole damn life. Think about that. Like his brain is just....I can't describe. I really can't.
God Lupe kills this song. Its just too insane. I can't believe that so many people can't respect Lupe for what he is. AN AMAZING RAPPER.
This song is magic. So short, so nice, and the flow is ridiculous. Should be considered a goat just on the merits of this song alone.
"Heart colder than Edi's..." Edi is a manufacturer of ice cream... HIP HOP AIN'T DEAD, LUPE ABSORBED IT!!!!
i absolutely get this song
and i shiver every time i hear it
my favourite lupe song, its just insane some of the lines he spits
One word that sums up Lupe....''Amzaing''
I gotta say gemstones did a good job on the voice over too
Correction: "Hallways walls full of RIPs, some some of us know"
Some of the RIPs (rest in peace) written on the wall are for people some of us know (him, his friends, the listeners) but none of us know the makers of the toast (guns)
I swear this guy makes me wanna quit rap man. I used to always wanna write to this bt I loaded up notepad and I just couldn't. This dude is TOO Amazing. Best Rapper of this time amazing, Pple shuda realised this by The cool at the latest. Even his single's, superstar and dumb it down, those songs were lyrically spectacular. They both went WAAY over the general publics heads man. WAAAY over! A lot people still don't understand why I think dumb it down is such a great song. Lu's MISUNDERSTOOD!!!!
"Here we are now, entertain us!"
Wow he threw in a line from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in this song (or maybe that's just a coincidence. i dunno)
either way, Lupe and his brain are complex and one-of-a-kind.
wow not really into rap, but I got here by UFO's Between the Walls, which is sampled for this track, must say this is really good!!!
Lupe's the best artist out there right now
bringin real hip hop back!
This whole time i thought he was saying "Know the weapons of the weak kill weakness in the heart" and correlated it to the verse "no weapon formed against me shall prosper". I still prefer my interpretation more
"God place me in yo armor I prescribe no partners" Ameen brother
Aye Arthur was the best kid show I ever watched when I was little and Food & Liquor went hard. And he did this album in a week when the first got leaked.
I do for the hood like a parka... -Lupe in 2006. cannot touch Wasalu Jaco
"Won't concede till I'm graffiti" hardest line in the whole song. Lupe is a beast
DIAMOND AND GOLD PLATED/ FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH- DIPPIN MY TOES IN IT
BOUNCE IN THE BOOTH- SPIT IT LIKE SKOAL IN IT- CUZ
I ONLY FEAR GOD/ KNOW THE WEAPONS OF THE WEAK
THE WEAKNESS OF THE HEART!!!!
FIRST EMCEE SINCE B.I.G. THAT MADE ME WANT TO MEMORIZE HIS LYRICS
FNF UP
BROOKLYN UP
one of the best lupes songs for sure
the greatest collection of words, melody, rhythm, and flow to have ever befallen my undeserving ears...
Lupe, its just not fair. At least make every other rapper think they have a chance...
"...and now, my insane brain, my thirty two teeth and two feet creep like its Elm Street cause, I only fear God..."
what do you say to that?
ufo sample between the walls used here..awesome!
GOOOD LORD ALMIGHTYYY!!!!!!!!! LUPE YOU BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm convinced man, if Lupe aint the best right now, then just wait untill Lasers. Many more people are going to agree
best lupe ever..... hmmmmmmm and the real video is simple but crazy
ONLY FEAR GOD
KNOW THE WEAPONS OF THE WEAK
THE WEAKNESS OF THE HARD
AND NEVER FALL ASLEEP
perfect lyrics + perfect beat = prefect song
**FAV LUPE FIASCO SONG!!**
YESSS LUPE IS FEATURING ON MY NEXT SONG!!
I WON THE JAM'N 94.5 CONTEST WITH MY TWO NEW SONGS ON MY

AND THEY ARE GETTING AIRED ON THE LAUNCHPAD SUNDAY NIGHTS!!!!!
How can I front with a song like this? No for real... how?
Opened up, *closed* after i entered.
amazing,
This is fire
@J11oNE What more can be said? He's the realest, and is lyrically one of the strongest rappers. Other rappers get it more than anyone else
@J11oNE this should encourage you that hip hop still lives
@hanaaB
my understanding of the lyric (not the arabic phrase) is that you are all you need.
as in, if i was placed in your armor, your vessel, your body, i wouldn't prescribe myself a partner or a team as in i wouldn't need any other external help to do what i need to get done
He is saying "know the weapons of the weak the weakness of the HARD"...meaning the weapons that weak people use are the same weapons that people who act hard use because those people are really weak...basically saying be true to yourself...The Emperors soundtrack the emperor has no clothes
That's what I'm sayin, people think Nas is the best, which he is one of them for sure, but Lupe's flow, delivery, wordplay, and lyrics are just simply too amazing for me to not consider him the absolute goat .
Damn u cant listen to this anymore.
Who spilled the beans!?
@jesseclifton Hey, the lyrics marvin billups are actually incorrect as Lupe says "Biden Bellows"
There is a guy called Biden who was forced to make a emergency helicopter Landing in afghan, therefore he's saying whaddup to the reaper (nearly met the reaper)
"Hell Met like ridell and high water hello...." - originated from the phrase between hell and high water, Lupe just uses the sentence about Ridell as its a great double meaning (NFL helmets etc)
hope this helps!
@D23 I dont believe he says "Biden Bellow". The Biden you are referring to is Joe Biden. I believe he actually says Saul Bellows. Bellows was an American and Canadian author that lived it Chicago for sometime; He died in 2005. Hints the "Saul Bellows said what up to the reaper". You're correct about the Hel-met / Hell met like ridell. But the rest of the quote I believe is with regards to a 1953 Novel by Bellow wrote called "The Adventures of Augie March", a politically rooted tale of a poor boy from Chicago. There was a bit of kick back on Bellows rendition of the American hero. In 1954 Fox release propaganda film called "Hell and High water" that reshaped the image of the Patriotic American Hero. So the entire quote "Saul Bellow said what up to the reaper, hell met like riddle, and high water, hello" makes sense to me.
@clueless301 I also love his other "hood" metaphor... "ya'll far from the hood like a limousine trunk".
amaaazing
EXACTLY !
no one seems to get that
im like yo listen to lupe hes fiyah and
everone just says they dont get what hes talking about
@DjTj29 I don't know about. Sounds like "weakness of the heart" to me. That makes sense since this song is basically talking about how there's no one to fear except God. Sounds like "Only fear God, not the weapons of the weak, weakness of the heart." That last line is referring to how humans are weak and we are drawn to evil things because our hearts are weak.
wow nice lyrics video i like it
"Won't concede til I'm graffiti". Hail to the King
as real as it gets, underdog to the top…
this song is just....i dont even know.i feel like im rambo with this song.
@PassiveLogic Same boat. It hurts sometimes but he's my fav rapper so it's ok.
Food & Liquor the illest Lu album... The Cool was nice too... Lasers straight tho..Lu was snappin but it was jus that production quality
@Bloomfire351 he can't quit because he's still under contract to release two more albums.
its lyrics colder than Edy's like the ice cream, not E.D.'s
@Bloomfire351 hes not quitting, FNL II is already half done and atlantic is not having a influence on it
hell ya lupes dope
@cisseusa123 he actually has something to say with his music, unlike many other rappers
Can someone do a breakdown of this song?
"Hell met, like Ridell. & high water, hello."
this is from food & liquor, i don't know if it was on a mixtape though
its not saved yet, but he can do it, and immortal technique
it means he won't stop fighting until his image is made legend in the streets via graffiti.
somebody please tell me if I got the talent to make this level of music that there is a audience for it?
be honest. I need to hear from true hip-hop fans who appreciate the craft.
may blessings fall apon all.
Anyone else get the Arthur reference, "Like DW brother." 2:00.
"won't concede til im graffitti "
like how you see graffitti pics of biggie and pac in all of the hoods
UFO - Between the Walls!
OMG freestyle GOD iz Lupe Fiasco
this is his best song besides the Japanese Cartoon songs
@harmonicsa no trust me ive listen to the song more than 100 times its I only fear god, the weapons of the weak, weakness to the hard and i will never sleep, In this verse hes basicly saying hes invincible to every thing except for god
Tech's got flow and mainstream appeal doesn't make the artist. He's been offered 3 major record deals, all of which he turned down so he could start his own record label. Platinum? You can't judge an artist with how many CD's he's sold, remember that. Anyone can get any CD from pirating. So therefore, record sales does not dictate the fam of an artist.
@hanaaB
its funny because when you say "all you need is God" it means the same thing to me as "all you need is You"
@UnTiLNxtYear
Because a lot of people nowadays don't want to think when they listen to hip-hop. They'd sooner listen to a loud beat with some simple similes mixed in and be content. Doesn't bother me though; it's their loss.
Na bro trust it, Tech has a lot more fans than Lupe, and I love em both. Just cause he's underground means nothing. Lupe's got the true touch of hip-hop and so does Tech, but Tech actually teaches you something.
Are you from England? NeighboUrhoods?
In the last verse, who said waddup to the reaper?
Would you do a video like this for my remix of it? Just wondering..haah
immortal technique is sick but he wont be the one to save hiphop. Lupe has the ability cause he has that main stream appeal but can still go harder then most mc's out there. lyrics, flow, delivery is all amazing.
@phabianx His mom is also his grandmother's daughter 0_o
this is a lupe song
@maazlim how are you comparing kid cudi and lupe? theyre different..
the dislike button shouldn't exist with lupe
shut up haters and restart here: 0:00
@waytoogangsta my mind is blown man hahaha
@Boneyslim88 A Parka Is A Coat With A Hood
*Know weapons of the weak*
Check out my "Ed Reed Highlights in 2009" video I did to this instrumental, he's a beast! As is Lupe Fiasco!
who else caught the Kalimah at 2:07?
I thought he said weakness of the heart
can someone explain the marvin billups said what up to the reaper, hell met like ridell, (i get that he's talkin about the football helmets) fuckin ill, just someone explain the relevance to the firrst bar
