  • For episode #133 of the Flatirons Podcast, Jon sits down with Harvey from The Boostcreep and Zek from In Boost Performance to talk about Tuning a car and making power Post-Greenspeed.
In April of 2022, Cobb Tuning announced that they were making a fundamental change to the way their Tuning software worked with the Cobb AccessPort. Their goal was to move to get CARB E.O.'s for as many parts that they could, but in doing so, they also had to dramatically reduce the access that Tuners had to re-map the ECU when tuning a car.
Now that we are nearly a year and a half on from that change, there are almost more questions now about what works and what the Tuning options are now with the AccessPort. The biggest question that most people have is, Can you make Power Post-Greenspeed?
The good news is that many options are becoming available again, and Tuners like Harvey from the Boostcreep and shops like In Boost Performance have been working to find those answers, and they give us a lot of good information in the conversation.
If you have any other questions that weren't covered here be sure to leave them in the comments below.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!

I am so grateful for Cobb and their Carb sticker products. I hope it pushes more companies to do the same. Great episode. Keep it up

FWIW, I have a 2018 STI w/ a 3” Inlet Blouch 1.5 XTR with the Killer B hard inlet with stock TGVs and fuel lines. It definitely fits but is very tight.
Also using a GEN2 GESI cat PN: 50230 (350-500HP) and the rear catalyst and heater go into ready state.
I very recently recall seeing someone making over 700WHP while being green speed compliant as well using the larger GEN2 Cat (PN: 85230).

I give Cobb serious respect for what they did. Emissions legal to avoid any sort of hassle. Not really a downside for a street car.

I'm in California, so nothing changed for me. Unfortunately, a lot of the emissions equipment on the the 02 wrx is problematic to the life of the engine, such as the cat in the downpipe, which had already exploded, destroying the turbo when I bought the car. It's also unfortunate that regulators, particularly here in California, end up just making arbitrary regulations, which just ends up with people just getting a hot smog, rather than sensible regulations, and working hand and hand with us. For instance, it's illegal to tune your car, even thought you could probably make emissions better, while making more power, or they've banned JDM engine blocks. Stupid rules produce stupid outcomes.

My setup in California. I still had it dirty smog but I’m sure it would pass.

Quick question, I want to run a recirculated external wastegate. Is this something I can do or should with the stock downpipe?

    • @FlatironsTuning
      @FlatironsTuning  5 місяців тому +1

I'd say that even a recirculated external gate could pose issues. I'd recommend looking at a stock fitment downpipe and see what results you get before considering that option.

Emissions regulation is why there is no longer an STI and why almost every Subaru has a CVT I really wish people would come together and draw a line in the sand enough is enough.

if cobb was smart they would have a daughter company develop and release software outside of the USA and therefore outside the grasp of the EPA. The EPA jurisdiction is only limited to that of the USA

On the idea though of having subaru make a truck, I do not agree with the idea that it should be on the fa24 platform. If we are going to see the return of the baja, then it would make sense to at least make it a 6 cylinder and with a real transmission. If they did do that at least they could use the same engine for the return of the STI, put it in some of the larger vehicles like the ascent, or offer it in the BRZ.
On another note for future video topics is to go over the manifolds available for the EJ. I mentioned it before in a previous video but I will gladly offer it again.
Thank you for another episode of the podcast and I can't wait to order more parts from you guys

ive dreamt of this and even entertained the idea of an EZ30 swap in so many different cars and pickups ! I really hope they create a bulletproof 6 cylinder engine.

Thanks for watching. Subaru absolutely has to sort out something like an 8-Speed Automatic transmission that they can use in place of the CVT, and ideally, one with a Hi-Lo range too. If they had that in the Ascent and Outback Wilderness, I think it would be a game changer.
For the engine, the FA24DIT makes more torque at 2000 rpm than the old 3.6 liter engine. I think that 4-cylinders are likely going to be here to stay for a bit, which I think is okay as long as they are attached to a good transmission option.

Right now im tuned on just an intake and it works. But i would like to get more power and get retuned. My issue is a downpipe, seems like 19+ STIs are more touchy with GESI downpipe options. Seems like one would need to buy a gen2 GESi cat or two and get a custom downpipe made. I would like to do a true full bolt on greenspeed build but no downpipe options is my biggest concern.

Thanks for the question. For the most part, it stalled out in Congress. There was a similar bill that was working through the House I believe.
It is called the CARS act, and I think it got sent to the Senate.
“Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act” (H.R. 4468)
I don't think that is as significant as the RPM Act, but it may be a start at lease.

    ***Disclaimer***
This episode has big "my wifes boyfriend lets me watch" energy...
Cobb did what it had to, but dont congratulate them for cornering a market to the point where there aren't plugnplay standalone options available/then dropp the support with a 2 week notice. My engine was in que at the machine shop when greenspeed hit. I'll never forgive cobb untill they have true flex fuel available for the GD chassis. However it sounds like they are coming closer to that day.

Made 400 on a dyno dynamics, I want to see how she does it on corn, along with the increased timing. I'll wait on that haltech standalone for now.

It is disgusting that many car enthusiasts are seemingly okay with overbearing emissions regulations and equipment. We are seeing the hobby, industry and businesses getting destroyed in real time by this.
