I’m so glad you covered this topic. I don’t think it’s realistic to ask people to completely let go of fashion. However, we can encourage thrifting and finding new ways to wear old clothes. I buy my second hand clothes from Instagram thrift stores and apps like poshmark. Most of the clothes I show in my channel are thrifted and I’m not ashamed of it ❤️

I am not discouraging but the fact is people (not all but almost all) are self centred and wish to enjoy (???) the life at any cost. A day will come when everyone will understand the importance of minimisation but it will be too late. Its an alarming situation. Immediate action is needed that too on a war foot basis.
At least start at individual level.
Thanks for covering such an important topic. Many people in India refuse to wear second hand clothes. But here in France, the number of thrift stores is skyrocketing. I personally haven't bought any new clothes in 2 years. Only second hand when I really needed to buy smthg

Donation is also a problem. After the second hand sellers can't sell something they usually transport it to Ghana or some other undeveloped countries.

In India renting clothes for events like marriage is a dream come true for many families. My elder brother got married recently and when I put forth the idea of renting the clothes all I got was taunts and looks of anger. My mom even said what will people think.
I think that to overcome the problem you can buy a cloth and then let people from within the family to wear it.

I wear my Tshirts (and other dresses) for at least 3 yrs.. Then by the condition of the garment➡ it either goes out for sale to Steel Utensils wala OR becomes cleaning towel for home. _I am 26 year old Young Woman and an Environmentalist_

Thank you for making this video and making those people comfortable who genuinely believes in comfortable and durable wearing..People face these kind of issues that why they are wearing clothes in repeat.. This is actually creating constant pressure among youth..
Since childhood I've always given my old clothes to orphanage , I personally have never faced this situation or problem , because what I have seen in most of the indian families is that until and unless any thing is not at all fit for anyone to use it's being reused , clothes are used generations after generation, my brothers and sisters have grown up wearing my clothes ,when I grew up I started wearing my mothers clothes, and not only in our family but in most of the families I have seen the same thing happening, now talking about those dresses which can be used only once or are hardly used by us like lehenga , after using it once it's kept in the almirah for years , but what I did was that I gave it to my younger sister my sibling she was so happy to wear it, and those who dont have siblings can try giving their old clothes to orphans or to their maids children what feels outdated and old fashioned to us might fill someone's heart with joy.

Good will india is such an organization we found good in pune... They don't collect from your door step they have their own center's in the city but at least we feel good.. That someone can use those things specially small children clothes or toys we buy it with so much love but they can't be used for long and still they are as good as new.

Traditional Indian clothes are unstitched . Easily can be styled or used by others. Like saree and dhoti/vesti . Drape it in multiple style for different occasions.
The problem is also low quality of clothes to ensure more consumption. We also need to spread awareness to buy good quality products only.

Why there is no recycling or chemical recycling for textile industry ?! Also what to do with torn and worn out dresses ? It's eating my conscience to even throw them out in dust bin as it will reach landfills
A lot of clothes go to Ghana and Chile where only 10% is used and rest goes on landfills creating self-combusting piles some go to Bulgaria and Ukraine where poor people burn it to keep their houses warm. As most clothes are made out of plastic (acrylic, poliester, poliamid, elastane are all plastics even fabrics advertised as natural like modal, tencel and viscose are in fact bioplastics that biodegrade on compost but also generate microplastics when washed and relase toxines when burned.
Why? It is cheaper
if this is so...then why not for electronics and plastic things?
