    That spongebob movie is the whole reason why ocean man is a meme, if people could put that aside then they would realize that ocean man is an actually good song

      IKR!!!!!!!!! I love that song, and people always ruin it for me, it might be the best ween song aside from exactly where I'm at and trandermal celebration, so it really sucks that it just so happened to be used in spongbob and only remembered as a meme, and when I say thats my favorite ween song, people call me a fake fan, our world these days....

      M8 meme or not people love the song, if something is a 'meme' doesn't mean that people don't take it serious, there are a lot of 'meme¿ songs thata are actually good music, don't take everything so serious

    Fun fact: Gene Ween sang every song on this album, except The Blarney Stone which is Dean Ween (and also parts of I’m Dancing in the Show Tonight), he has a ton of different singing voices for different styles, and gets different sounds also from pitch shifting. I think he’s really underrated not only when it comes to songwriting but also in terms of vocal abilities

    Try out 'California' by Mr. Bungle. If you enjoy Ween's unpredictable musical style, you might enjoy Mr. Bungle's music as well. I'd say that they are a *bit* more unpredictable than Ween on 'California' as well. If you want something more extreme, check out 'Disco Volante'.

    • @heatnationwpb
      @heatnationwpb 6 років тому +2

      As much as I wanted to like Disco, I find it completely un-listenable to this day. I'm a HUGE fan of the first Bungle album - that crazy record dug its way into my brainmeat in my late teens & just wouldn't let go for years. I still put it in my top-5 all-time albums. From the epic time changes to the Lynch samples to the circus themes to the lyrics to the artwork to the violence to the pure genius of it all - it seriously f'd up my consciousness in the best ways possible. Seriously, I was obsessed. In my 45yrs very few albums have grabbed me quite like that one. So when Disco Volante came out I bought it on day 1 & rushed home to smoke one & take it all in. Of course, being a huge Patton & FnM fan, I expected it to be a bit different from the self-titled lp, but I wasn't prepared for the noisy, unstructured insanity of DV at all.
      I do enjoy California very much, as well as the Fantomas stuff, so a few years ago (around the time of the Peeping Tom release) I decided to go back & give Disco Volante another listen, thinking that maybe without all of the self-imposed "sophomore-album" expectations, that I might enjoy & appreciate it like so many Bungle fans have. I mean, I'm much older now & tastes evolve, right? NOPE! haha Man, I still find it to be beyond terrible - to the point of being completely un-listenable.
      Disco Volante eludes me like a great joke that I'm not in on.

    The guitarist is Michael Melchiondo, the vocalist is Aaron Freeman, the two founders of Ween. This was technically their first album where they had a proper band in the studio with them recording; had drummer for Choc & Cheese. This album I always considered their swan song for what had been their psychedelic/experimental sound up to this point. Once they got a band of musicians together to record with, there sound changed by the next album White Pepper. It was still Ween, but more "grown up", if that makes sense. 😀

    I got into Ween when I was introduced to the album The Pod back when I was a nerdy stoner in high school and I’ve thoroughly loved most of their work ever since. The Mollusk came out during my senior year and it was definitely the soundtrack to many weekend evening reefer sessions while parked on some desolate country road staring up at the stars.

    Great reaction. I love seeing other people fall in love with Ween. They’ve been my favorite band ever since my buddy turned me on to them 20 years ago. Do some more reactions of their albums!
    BTW, I’m surprised you didn’t talk more on the album cover. The album art was created by Storm Thorgerson, the same guy who created Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

    I grew up on this album (we always skipped tracks 6 and 11! lol) and it’s great to see your reaction like this because I’m so numb to how good it is that it’s hard to be surprised by it anymore- but seeing you react to it is like hearing it for the first time and then the next time I go back and listen to it, it sounds new again. Love it.

    fun fact, the mollusk was allegedly inspired by an acid trip on the beach lol. i wish i could listen to ween for the first time all over again. every album is fucking magic in its own way and then you find out they have as many unreleased/b sides/rarities as they have released tracks. they are a band that defies genre and expectations. you expect a joke band but you get one thats simple on the surface but deceptively subtle. gener is a brilliant lyricist with a vocal range that just doesnt make any sense and deaner is IMO one of the greatest guitarists alive

    Thank you for making this reaction. I am a first time viewer of your content and I am glad to say that I will definitely check out more of your content, this was great! Also, I am a super big Ween fan and this was the album that got me into them. Seeing you enjoy this album so much gave me extreme amounts of joy. I love it when new people discover Ween and realize that they aren't just the meme band that "made the Ocean Man song".
