You can clearly hear SpongeBob and Patrick in the opening song. It’s like they’re talking back and forth. You can also hear SpongeBob in the chorus of Mutilated Lips. You can also hear Mr. Krabs in the Blarney Stone. When Stephen Hillenburg was trying to make a cartoon show that was “looney tunes under water” he coincidentally heard this record and it inspired the show. He got ahold of the band and one of the things they discussed was how the characters would sound. The influence form this record is all through SpongeBob. They even finished the first SpongeBob movie with “ocean man” which is when the show was originally supposed to stop. Just beautiful
I find it fascinating that you have been introduced with The Mollusk. Regardless, it's a great album to get to experience your first taste of Dean and Gene. Give The Pod a run, Interested to hear your thoughts on that masterpiece!
Ween is such a damn ride. If you guys are considering more Ween in the future, Quebec is probably the most solid and mature record they've ever put out. Great album that still maintains that Ween weirdness. P.S: Suggesting that "Ween" is a euphemism for "Penis" is very much on brand for Ween. Not at all an off-base suggestion
Quebec is my favourite Ween album, but it's an album that is best listened to alone. Mollusk is a more social album. Also, Storm Thorgerson did all the artwork for the Mollusk.
A weirdly specific refrence, but the second song sounds like the old SNES game Claymates, when you are walking around as the blue ball to get from level to level.
Just when I thought UA-cam was safe, my husband's favorite band appears. Lol... He loves their music so much. He's proud that I sat through this whole reaction. I'm gonna give them a second chamce.💜
This is so fun to watch! As a longtime ween fan it's awesome to witness people discovering them for the first time. And for anybody that does like to partake in the psychedelics lol, you owe it to yourself to listen to this album for your next trip. It can be pretty intense though haha
They are such an underrated band, a band by music lovers for music lovers. They got me to into listening to a lot of the alternative stuff, and while I’ve made some great discoveries, none come close to Ween. I was already gonna subscribe, and I saw you guys did a reaction to another one of my fav bands and the first that got me to start listening to albums as a whole, the Beatles. Gonna go check the one out now, great reactions guys!
It's almost like they heard Ringo's song Octopus' Garden and thought that the Beatles left a lot of meat on that bone so they made a full album based on it.
Moog Synthansizers are awesome, they're one of the original synths, and were used by pioneers like Wendy Carlos and Kraftwerk(pretty sure feel free to fact check me). There are some great documentaries on Moog synths.
Came here for your Dead reactions and noticed you guys have a bunch of Ween reactions, too. I grew up 10 miles from Ween. Used to go to their hometown shows at John & Peters in New Hope. Stellar band, one of the best. I'll be sure to check out your other Ween reactions, too.
My favorite Ween album for sure, possibly my favorite album of all time. I really enjoyed listening and watching you guys experience it for the first time. Looking forward to seeing you do other Ween albums.
By far their best album (in my opinion) I absolutely LOVE this album, and it brings me back to such a great time in my life, and it still holds up. The thing that’s wonderful about Ween is that you can put their discography on shuffle, and you could think you were listening to 5 different bands.
Commenting before watching the whole video The guy who created Spongebob was in college and this album mixed with some hallucinogenics gave him the idea and inspiration for the show.
I used to play this album at work and my manager became obsessed with Pink Eye (on my leg) he loved it so much. We didn't always agree on music but it was nice to see him so happy.
The album that inspired SpongeBob! So good. Even in Mutilated Lips it almost sounds like SpongeBob's voice in the second repeat of the chorus lmao. Loved the REACTION!!!!!
I would do anything to go back and experience Ween for the first time again. I love seeing these videos whether the person loves Ween as much as me or not.
Oh boy, here we go. Ween is one of the best bands ever, all their albums are different, so don't judge then based on just this. They are incredibly talented and take not taking themselves seriously, seriously. Their lyrics rarely make a lot of sense but they flow like poetry - Mutilated Lips is a great example of that. I would also listen to Chocolate and Cheese, Quebec, and White Pepper for starters. Glad you listened to this album though, it's awesome.
Ween is quite a ride. They can be crude and NSFW, but their lyrics are genius level stuff. They cannot be pigeonholed or kept in any one category. Great live band, but 12 Golden Greats is another studio album to run through...
I used to play Piss Up A Rope on the jukebox at the bars when I was in my twenties, and just sit back and enjoy watching everyone’s reaction. lol. That, and My Own Bare Hands.
BTW, while the songs do sound different there is a nautical theme running throughout the entire record. Many songs are also in 3/4, or "waltz" time and that is characteristic of sea shanties and old folk songs. The Blarney Stone is supposed to sound like an irish drinking song, which also connects to the nautical theme
When i heard Ween for the first time i went through 3 stages 1) this is some weird stuff 2) its still weird but I like it 3) omg its not weird anymore, its just good.
Ween is one of the greatest bands I have ever heard. Their range and diversity is second to none. They literally sound like 50 different bands. The mollusk is easily one of the greatest albums I've ever heard and it gets better with each listen. Check out the chocolate and cheese album, white pepper, and quebec album too
The MOOG SYNTHESISER was made famous on Beatles' Abbey Road record. It had just been invented. Used on the following tracks: Maxells Silver Hammer, I want you (she's so heavy, Here Comes the Sun, and Because.
I was fond of Wendy Carlos's use of the Moog. He (she) really showed the moog could be used for things beyond poppy music. The soundtrack to The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and Tron is full of the moog sound.
havnt seen phish since 99 and hope I dont have to put up with their shitty fans at ween shows anytime soon. Ween shows are still full of cool heads. I'd say that Ween is one of the greatest bands of the last 30 years. They contain such contradictions: they refuse to take anything seriously and yet they're capable of heartbreaking pathos. They are deliberately slapdash and yet their songs can be immaculate, polished gems. They love really stupid humor and yet they are one of the most intelligent bands out there. They work extremely hard at their songwriting craft and their musicianship and yet they portray themselves as stoner goofballs writing novelty songs. Overall, I'd say they lack pretension. They want to cut through the bullshit of life and laugh at the ridiculousness of everything. They're two fishing buddies from New Hope, PA who somehow made some of the best albums ever.
poka dot tail is soooooo psychedelic live. when your rollin face and that pause comes with the help me and the guitar solo with the vibrato effect it is well..... all you heads understand Im sure. Hard to put psych experiences into words.

In my opinion they started out as a bizarre comedic experiment but evolved into a brilliant trippy band performing steadily at "jam band" level of complexity. But still funny as hell to me. Stellar weird band
How cool is that. I have to be honest, and find earlier Ween sometimes a bit too much/too strange, this was - I think - their first album on a big label. It's such a great album. I think you would enjoy their album 'Quebec' (which has slight prog influences), or the more easy on the ear 'White Pepper'. Ween were so non-PC (and actually extremely talented musicians), I wonder if they would stand a chance these days - probably would not get signed by a major label. BTW - they are not brothers and unfortunately split up several years ago.
Part of the beauty of this album is the flow between the songs. I know it’s a reaction video and you need to comment on each song but when you do that (or listen to an album like this on UA-cam where it inserts ads in between) you lose the impact of the flow of the songs and how they actually all blend together in a cohesive masterpiece. The way it pulls you emotionally and sonically is the magic of it. Here is my recommendation on the order of Ween albums to give a newb to break them into Ween. Once they get through the first 5, they will be immune to the first two albums (God Ween Satan & The Pod) that will turn off most people who don’t understand the genius at work in the raw early days. 1. Chocolate & Cheese 2. White Pepper 3. Pure Guava 4. 12 Golden Country Greats 5. The Mollusk Now they are ready for anything from Homo Rainbow to Deez Nutz, the 30 minute live version of Vallejo, Slow Down Boy, Spirit Walker, LMLYP and so on... they will be fully converted.
Of course. I just mean that people will hear about this album and go to UA-cam and they won’t get the full experience. The CD or full digital download/stream is the only way to fly.
You're into music, and you don't know who Bob Moog is? Wow. And it's not radio shack they're handmade and their tens of thousands of dollars. This might be my favorite album. Was a chocolate and cheese guy for a long time. They are all incredible. First got into them when we were listening to the pod back in the day...
A masterful record, maybe their best, and a common gateway into the world of Ween. The earlier records are the weirder, low-fi ones. Personally I think "The Mollusk" the song captures the feel of Yellow Sub-era Beatles better than anybody else. Also very Pink Floyd as well
The fact you compared it to phish based on the cover is outrageously Hilarious my friends you are in for the best surprise.. yes, a mollusk is a real thing, by the way.
The Mollusk was my first introduction to Ween. Specifically (It’s Gonna Be) Alright, and I was immediately hooked. I think I went to Chocolate and Cheese after that.

I think one of their aims was to Confound the uninitiated listener! Do you agree? Like they're just fuggin' wit us. I find them hilarious because they are so weird and profane. And they seem to find rock music hilarious which makes sense.
Its fun watch people trying to guess what to expect with Ween.

lol moog as a radioshack thing, moog is the standard
Great reaction!!! Literally any Ween album is amazing. You should check out their country album 12 Golden Country Greats!!!
We reacted to their live in Toronto album, which drew from that. -Ryan
@@WelpHereWeAreOnUA-cam Awesome!!! That's a great live show!
This is one of the great bands of today
All of my love cover by WEEN, live hit it.
I loved the visible confusion of listening to dancing in the show tonight
Oh and cold blows the wind is from a female perspective because it's their cover of an old folk song :)
FEAR THE BOOGNISH
GOD/WEEN/SATAN
Put Ween's live Chicago concert in your queue.
I think one of their aims was to Confound the uninitiated listener! Do you agree? Like they're just fuggin' wit us. I find them hilarious because they are so weird and profane. And they seem to find rock music hilarious which makes sense.
Makes sense to us
Ween are the Brass Eye of music. Musical satire at its finest.
moog? radio shack?? bloodly blarNey stone!!!
"I think the lyrics are gonna mean something in this album" Oh no, they've made a grievous error.
Maybe. But we had fun
Ween.
