3 days before filming this landscape photography video, it was 20ºc & sunny so I was sceptical when the weather report showed sub-zero temperatures & blizzard conditions, especially in Spring time. Setting off in my van, well before sunrise, I was certain that I would be disappointed. How wrong I was.

Look out for scammers in the comments. They pose as me, using my profile pic, and ask you to message them on Telegram. I have blocked the accounts, yet somehow they are still getting through. Good one, UA-cam. Besides, if i'm going to spam something, it will be my Landscape Photography Book ;) This, I promise, is not a scam: thomasheaton.co.uk/product/my-book/
Haha, just got one in this thread 🥳
Thanks I was not sure how to contact you about the scam message.
been so many...
Just got one scam comment. Reported Sir!
Try to email UA-cam telling about spammer who is using your name and give them that channel's link They might respond to creator asap
I would love to see how one of the most consistent photographer youtubers goes about the workflow behind making a video every week. Shot planning, ingesting video, picking clips, editing, color, sound all that stuff. Your consistency is just amazing
I second this
I third that. And those generous B-rolls
Yeah would be interesting
Yes please!
I went to a speaking event that Thomas spoke at 4 years ago maybe, still got the filter case with his signature on it! I think he said that he blocks out a number of days every now and then a shoots in bulk, edits all the footage to release ahead os]f schedule. But I am sure this may have changed, since the channel is much bigger, probably has more things that require management etc
In the Netherlands we have the saying "April does what it wants"
We in the US got to stop complaining about how much we have to dish out paying for GAS (Petrol). Keep plugging, that's the only way to pay for it! You pay triple on petrol. Great Images! It has been a pleasure watching you grow as a photographer.
Dear Thomas, the quick Lightroom edit via the iPad is a perfect addition to your videos. I like it, and can't wait to learn more from you in your next videos.
Cheers from Germany!
Z
Impressive to see the images you created in the course of an impromptu drive about, and inspiring. We too had winter return in April. 9 April I was conducting a smartphone wildflower photography workshop for the local native plant society at our place in the Columbia River Gorge in shirtsleeves spring weather. 11 April the flowers were buried under half a foot of snow. It was quite a winter we had this spring.
Hey! "That is the spice of life" Thomas Heaton 👌
Anyone else feel anxious when Tom doesn’t shoot at f11?
Love the images this week
I have the book. What an excellent book related to photography. I am so glad still that I bought it. Thanks, Thomas.
Loved that image you edited last. I do like that style. My favourite thing is driving around, usually on an errand, seeing a photo and pulling over to shoot it, usually to the disgust of my passenger.
The iPad review was really relevant as it built on the artistic endeavour in the actual shots. Great on set as well! Not seen this before so quite original.
absolutely love the winter images.
that first image... exquisit!
Just LOVE those last couple of minimalst images of the trees without much manipulation. Great vlog again.
*_For the 2% who read this, I wish you for a total success in your next project_*
What a cool surprise! Always fun to experience a weird weather swing like that. You never know what to take with you! Thanks for sharing.
I love that as you turn your head at roughly 8:00 we can see the snow on the back of your head :P
An absolutely most enjoyable video - great images, some great instruction and an upbeat Thomas Heaton - an insight into what makes you among the very best !!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the insights into your workflow and the peak behind the curtain into your creating such amazing images !!! Let’s hope that you keep this a feature. Cheers !!!!!
That last image is amazing
An excellent film Thomas. Taking of photographs, processing, a bit of art history and great images to boot.
just amazing !
In London for a few days from the States. It couldn’t go without my weekly fix . Fine effort.
I love the two pole shots. Can’t decide which I prefer: the wall looks obviously adds some foreground interest but the minimalism of the shot without the wall… *chef’s kiss*
Uh, I like that you are doing a bit of editing on the run. More of that please 😊
I love this.
Wonderful. And just from the road! BTW ........ I prefer the pole without the wall.
Really enjoyed the video and pictures today. Enjoyed seeing some of the processing and the way you go about it. Always looking forward to your next video!
Fantastic images, as usual. I really love that first minimalist shot of just the electrical pole. But the larger tree was incredible, great job!
Seems like winter is getting an extension everywhere, here on the Canadian prairies everything had mostly melted and then we got another solid 20cms of snow...I thought I wouldn't want it, but...it was so beautiful I couldn't help but love it.
Thank you. 👍📷😎
so beautiful!
cool weather for April!
Lovely session out in that blizzard, makes me want to move back to England even more. I'm watching from my camp site this afternoon on my photography road trip in Australia, certainly love what you're doing Thomas! Please don't change what you do as this is unique and why I like watching your content over most other photographers on here.
Hope the hat was tasty as from what I could see, every image had snow in it. Very nice selection of images Thomas and as you said the UK weather certainly offers variety almost on a daily basis
It’s alway nice to see your thought process behind the images… even when is done in the iPad… thanks for sharing!
Bye, for now!
I cannot get enough of trees either. Your snow shots are awesome! I continue to love the simplicity and minimalism. Thank you
Great stuff Thomas, loved the processing piece as it just adds a nice all round finish to the video. I also thought the little snips of the service station was a nice touch too, makes the viewer feel more included.
Telegraph pole... tic tic.. tic tic tic.. Beautiful shots!!
Love’em
Absolutely loved the view into your simple edits. You should do that in every episode!
Once again a great video from start to finish!!!! Good job!!!!
Another great video
Yay, new video 🙂
Tom, Some wonderful snowy images and another excellent vided. Really loved that 7:20 image! Thanks!
Well I’d call that a very successful morning’s photography , love all of those Tom
Brilliant video mate and such great pictures. Love you showing us your workflow also look forward to seeing this more 👌
Great teaching with the editing
Awesome video! (As usual)
Your photographs and process are amazing but aside from that, your videos are always so calming in this mad world.
Love the image at 7:25. Havent seen any snow this winter - the 'joy' of living down south
Great photos! I too love snowy photo shoots despite how much I grumble about it. I also had a chuckle when I noticed your winter coat is as dirty as mine.
love your wooden mug. And your photography.
Great shots. In van editing on location - brilliant 🤩
Nice one Tom.
hey tom, its nice to see you added basic lightroom editing to your content.your always amazing.👍
Another good day outside making happy images. :)
We were cycling Swale Dale that day.... Those snow pellets hurt. Great video!
When I first saw that snow-covered rock wall I thought you have to include it in the image, but after seeing the pole by itself with no wall, I find I like it much better. Nice video.
I think that hat will go nice with a nice salad and a baked potato young man 😊😊👍great video as always
Beautiful photos as always, Tom!
The iPad chat was good 👍🏻
I love the last photo. ❤️👍🏻 I am a big fan of your photography. I own the book.
I really enjoyed this video! I like the iPad analysis to hear how you examine the photo after the shoot. My favorite part of the video is when you turn your head and the back of your hat is _covered_ in snow: I could feel the weather. My favorite pic is the bigger tree in the snow at 07:16. Not sure why. Snow in April though, today one year ago (4/20/2021) it was snowing like that in St. Louis, Mo. Today, I live in Las Vegas. Can't say I enjoy seasons changing day-to-day, but you certainly have made the most of the British weather! Thanks.
Nice work
Interesting change to be editing in the van!
The standard you set is amazing, every video you produce is to such a high standard, and the images superb, the Fuji is a great camera.
Second last image is my favourite ❤️📷
We don't get snow where I live. I'd have to travel 6hrs to get to the closest mountains that are high enough for regular snow😟... so whenever I do see snow, I'm like a kid in a candy store.
Love the trees - they were indeed a painting rather than photograph. The other two in blowing snow were equally great; Van Gogh shall I say :)
The simple telegraph pole in the field with and without the wall was genius. It proves you dont have to go to the lake district etc if the conditions are right.
Really enjoyed that film Thomas, the impressionist type rendering really suited the images and left something to the viewers imagination, great stuff as usual. Respect for your continued efforts and getting up and out there when many would just press the sleep button, lol. Cheers Buddy.
Great video as always, you're getting better at the titles and way that you put the video together
Quite possibly my favourite pictures I have seen you take. I am talking about the 2 'White' images with the trees, to me they almost look like pencil sketches from a Wainwright guide Absolutely beautiful.
always believe the weather forecasts :-) :-) stunning shots Pal, loved the driving snow for sure it made that shot !! enjoyed the post processing in the field part oo
Thanks, Darren. I was very happy to be caught in that blizzard. it made all the difference.
I've seen a lot of your videos, so I finally decided to get the book. Looking forward to reading through it. Btw, keep up the great work!
hmmm I swear there was a solid 5 inches of snow in that field you took those beautiful painterly shots in. I thought there would be a hat snack to accompany the great tutorial on editing!! Thanks Tom!
Large tree does it for me Tom, certainly worth the early morning rise. Thanks for the weekly fix.
Great stuff. This is probably your most engaging video for a while. Its all about being out in the field, but i miss your office videos.
Maybe it's just me (living in Southern California), but I love the unexpected spring snow storms. Stunning images! The one at 7:11 looks like it could've been from the depths of winter in December.
0:02 Good moooooorning Mr Heeeaaaton, goood mooooooorning everyooooone
Really enjoyed the video and the images!
Amazing video again. Wednesday is the best day of the week.
A productive morning, and I love the final image. We had some of that "interesting" weather up here in Aberdeenshire a week or two ago, which I assume is when this was shot. I remember one Saturday morning I listened to a skylark in the early morning sun, drove through a blizzard, did my shopping in the sunshine, then drove through another blizzard on the way home... all before 9.30 :D
Nice vlog Tom, liked the IPad chat at the end. Loving the clean minimal shots
We did have a bit of a cold spell. Its just sea fret on the coast for a few days (Saltburn that is) Great video2x👍
Cold here today. It's 61 degrees! :-) * I like the contrast between the stark, sharp stone wall and the soft clouds. That struck me right away.
Big fan here 🙌🏻 really well done.. as usual. I love your content. Carry on 👍🏻
The Northeast US was hit by a nor'easter two days ago. Some areas of New York State got 18" of snow...in mid-April! I almost wish I lived a couple hundred miles north. Almost. At this point of my life, winter is my least favorite season and I'm glad to see the back of it. Funny how you've morphed from Grand Vista Man to Mr. Minimal in the last year or so. But I love your results.
I sort of hate this but the first shot of the wire post and field is one of my favorites you have ever done. Most likely because it's something I can actually replicate around me where it's completely flat for hundreds of miles.
Speaking of "simplistic", "simply brilliant".
Big lover of trees, that was photography food for the soul.
I'll bet that hat didn't make for good eating 👍🏾
I just wanted to say thank you for all your inspiring videos. You have inspired me so much that today I’m booking my first overseas flight for a photo holiday. Lookout Iceland i’m coming in September 😎 , it may sound like a nice little trip for you guys up north , but for a guy in Sydney Australia that’s a massive 40 to 45 hour flight time and a extreme change in weather 🤣
Thanks again Love your work.
I really enjoyed this video. Your excitement showed through to great effect! Interesting to see your thoughts during post-processing on the iPad. The photos were great, too! I liked every single one. If you put them in next year’s calendar, you have a sale!
This ipad is a great addition, editing in the van just after the shoot is great
Hope you used the Ridgemonkey to toast your hat :-) ....Cracking video
All good photographs. But the one with the trees and wall. ( You cropped the cut off limb and post) I think that's a great shot. Also I like how you've kept the image very cool toned. Great. Regards
nice video like always love the one with the trees, by the way (how did the hat taste!!!!!), can wait for the video always have fun and stay safe....
Liked the quick edits :)
Great to see you again Thomas.
Would you like fries with the hat ?
Ha my state just had a 3 day blizzard of the century dropped 23in in my town and 48in the town north of me it was dangerous to go out and shoot in it since the winds were 60 miles n hour so I didn't get any great photos from it. Suppose to get rain and show this weekend so I'll see if I can get something with this one. Great video!
高洁丝~
Thomas, watching your video's is a highlight each week so thanks for that. This week the trees shot was favored but really like the others. Nice add with the ipad!. Interesting what you say about your weather. We say the same here in Calgary. We have had a number of 20+ degree days but we just got hit with 22 cm's. We may get more snow than you but you have way higher gas prices...about 70% higher.....yikes. The big question however, did you eat your hat!
Great video Thomas
