@@libail7081 It’s my friends truck. He bought a whole new part. But some people on here have had success with buying a bushing repair kit that just replaces the bushing and not the whole part.
Running or not chick the wheels. I was ran over by my own truck when it was parked in my driveway key wasn’t even in the ignition. I reached up to see if it was the shift shaft seal and my hand bumped the lever and it rolled down the driveway and used my shoulder as a wheel chock for about a foot while it dragged me before it popped over my shoulder and down my arm. Hell I jumped up and grabbed the front bumper to try and stop it from rolling into the side of our van themat was parked behind it sideways at the end of the driveway. I was barefoot and so my feet got kinda messed up too. Probably the dumbest thing I have ever done. This was close to 20 years ago and I don’t ever get under a car with out wheel chocks and jackstands if I am jacking it up. Safety first cause I never want to go through that kind of pain again. I’d post pics of the scars where my elbow bone was hanging out of the skin but can’t post pics here. Crazy part was I had no broken/fractured bones. Dr was really surprised. The road rash on my back from where the truck dragged me the foot or so down the driveway actually hurt the worst.

Oh my gosh, this was hilarious. I have totally been there and had my truck catch on fire in the middle of the jack in the box drive thru... luckily, there were some nice guys that helped me put it out before I finished picking up my order! Glad you got it fixed right then and there!
Hello, i never comment on things but i just have to now. I just want to thank you for this video. I had just got off work and went to put gas, once finished I couldn’t start the truck. I was so scared to ask someone for a jump because I’ve been told no in rude ways before in the past while I was stuck with my son, but got the courage to ask only for that not to work. When the roadside assistance asked me if I can put it in neutral I then realized it said I was in D but I put it in park, and the truck wouldn’t start so I explained that over the phone and was told I have more then a two hour wait for a tow truck. I went to Google and shortly came across your video, so right there at pump 8 in my Olaf scrub top and crocs I managed to get under this big ass truck only to find that exactly what you video showed is what was wrong, it took me a moment to realize I needed to pull the little lever thing and it eventually went on and I was able to drive home and it popped off while driving because I couldn’t put it in park at home but I was safely home and now is my husband time to shine cause I’m not doing that shit again 😅 From the bottoms of this exhausted mom’s heart, thank you for posting this video that after waiting an hour stuck I made it home safely to my children. Let me tell you that you are awesome. Thanks for posting this issue. It happened to us while we were at the bank. All of the sudden my husband couldn't shift to reverse. No gears would work. I quickly went to UA-cam and your video popped up. He checked and looked for the cable, and he saw what you referenced. He put in place and reversed. But then he was stuck in reverse as cable popped out again. He put emergency brake on, found a clip in the truck, and pinned the cable, and then he was able to drive us home and then to the shop. Thanks again!!
Part is Dorman 14104 hanging on the shelf at Autozone as a “Shift Cable Bushing kit” $18.99 fix, snaps in. I borrowed some pliers, rubbery plastic bushing is a bit tough to completely snap through. Could have done it by hand but would have taken more patience

You’re welcome 👍 The cable that came off goes on the transmission. The cable is a part that’s called a transmission shift cable aka transmission control lever cable... If it’s damaged you can have the whole cable replaced but you can also get a transmission shift cable bushing kit if you don’t want to replace the whole cable. My daughter and I got in my truck after shopping at Ikea. The shift handle on my 2012 Silverado was fllopping around and wouldn't lock in any gear😕(wtf). This video was the first one that I looked at thank goodness. I crawled under the car and sure enough, the rod was disconnected. I put it back together,and held it together with some vise grips. I made it home but the vise grips were gone😅. Thank you for the Video. (My daughter was on her phone the whole time. Had no idea what was going on.😆)

Because of your video I had the same thing happened to me and it was the plastic piece that keeps the shifter to the transmission. Why the heck they use plastic for that connection, is assinine. I had this happen to me and a temporary fix I did so I could still drive was to take off the bushing and stick the cable back on and used a small zip tie to connect around the nipple to keep the cable in place. Then I ordered a transmission shift cable bushing repair kit and was good to go.
You can get a replacement for the yellow piece and the part that it connects to at most autoparts stores in the "help" section. one of the easiest repairs you can do on any transmission is this one.

You’re welcome 👍 The cable that came off goes on the transmission. The cable is a part that’s called a transmission shift cable aka transmission control lever cable... If it’s damaged you can have the whole cable replaced but you can also get a transmission shift cable bushing kit if you don’t want to replace the whole cable. A lot of people on here have reported success just replacing the bushings. Hope that helps 👍

My daughter and I got in my truck after shopping at Ikea. The shift handle on my 2012 Silverado was fllopping around and wouldn't lock in any gear😕(wtf).
This video was the first one that I looked at thank goodness.
I crawled under the car and sure enough, the rod was disconnected.
I put it back together,and held it together with some vise grips.
I made it home but the vise grips were gone😅.

Dude, your video was a great help. I Was sitting in a parking lot, put my truck in gear and it stopped at reverse. Was I tripping with a laugh, like, no way did this just happened. Because of your video I had the same thing happened to me and it was the plastic piece that keeps the shifter to the transmission. Why the heck they use plastic for that connection, is assinine. Thanks again for your video.

I had this happen to me and a temporary fix I did so I could still drive was to take off the bushing and stick the cable back on and used a small zip tie to connect around the nipple to keep the cable in place. Then I ordered a transmission shift cable bushing repair kit and was good to go.

You can get a replacement for the yellow piece and the part that it connects to at most autoparts stores in the "help" section. one of the easiest repairs you can do on any transmission is this one.
