Info for first time bike engine buyers: check this gear before installing on the bike! Many times, it will be wobbly or out of square and you can make it better (less vibration and wear) by backing the screw out and straightening that gear up. You can tell whether or not it needs adjusting by eyeballing it as you spin the crankshaft. A few of mine have had a bit of run out or wobble and a couple have required an extra washer to get the screw to bear down onto the gear enough to keep it straight.
Well informed, but what I would like to know is how did you manage the press that gear all the way back in? You see, I had a tooth break on me while I was riding, snd when I tried to switch the gears out, I can't seem to push the crank gear all the way back in like how you did... So in addition to my first question, do I need to tap the gear with something, or do I just need to push it in as hard as possible?
does anyone know if motors from zeda motorsports come with a different sized threading on the small bevel gear? my tool worked with my old ebay motor but the zeda motors threads seem too big for the tool.
I can NOT get my flat head screw off to realign the gears w my puller, I've jammed them so they won't move, but can't even budge the flat head.help me please if u can
How do you get that little screw out? (The one that you replaced) I had the same thing happen and i was going to take the screw from a non running motor so i dont have to wait a week for shipping. But i cant get that screw off
a couple suggestions: many other vids suggest using a plain washer, or penny to "jam the teeth" to lock the gears when turning fasteners on the drive gear, or clutch plate. i'm of the opinion that gears made of "chineseum alloy" probably aren't well suited to such hard materials being used (modern pennies are zinc, which is actually pretty hard). a copper washer, aluminum washer, small piece of thin sheet of either material, or even short length of 18 to 14 gauge solid copper (or aluminum) wire is far softer, and will jam the teeth quite well. tying a little "leash" of wire to either washer will aid retrieval if you "lose it" under the clutch accidentally. once you loosen the screw, and have it out, use "white out" to mark the location of the woodruff key on the gear teeth (dot, line, arrow, whatever). that enables you to see its position with the puller tool installed, which allows you to "clock it" to the position least likely for it to fall out as the puller works, preventing it from disappearing behind the clutch, or into the grass under your feet, the crack in the concrete slab you're working on, etc.. a "telescoping magnet pick-up tool" allows a much easier retrieval of the key if it does manage to escape (a hint i attribute to "Bicycle Motorsports", an excellent youtube channel run by a very talented young man, check it out). having said all that, excellent vid! well shot, well narrated, to the point, clear and informative! liked, and subscribed
thx Alex I needed that, could not find this tuturial anywhere else. my little gear got chewed to the Bone gunna replace it and adjust the clutch so it won't happen next time.
What happens if the threads are stripped then what ? I have the tool aswell but it seems to pop right out ? When pressure is applied. And also only reason I'm needing to get that gear off is the crank got bent on mag side to where it was hitting on 1 side but space on other side but wanting to keep the engine cases due to motor mount bolts snapped off front and back on other engine block cases but the internals are all perfect.
Say where do I get the gear puller? and if I dont have one is there another way because I think the threads are all chewed up from using a vice grip to try and yank it off. I had it off once already but put it back on minus the key after watching video just to see how it works while I wait for new gear in mail now its stuck . Please help also screw head on big gear is kinda stripped scared to mess with it ...bought bike already built so I'm learning to rebuild. I like the videos too btw!
My woodruff key pops out. I put it in and it will stay for 5 minutes or days or weeks. I've used loctite. I've tried new keys. It's been a problem since the day I started riding it. I notice that my bevel doesn't sit flush with the big gear. I haven't used an impact driver yet. Does it make that big of a difference?
+Holly Crocker yeah it sounds like your woodruff key is hanging out the back of the bevel gear. I would say try using an impact driver to get the bevel gear screw in all the way. You will have to hold the crankshaft to keep all the gears from moving while you're tightening. This can be done easier by taking off the cylinder.
but then again one would have to fully rebuild the engine if is going to split the case, I it possible for these seals to damage with fuel leaking from carb drowning the engine? i want to make sure i didnt lose compression nor have air leak, but im not motivated in spliting everything. Once my engine was covered in fuel from Nt leak or forgeting fuel valve open, to a point i needed to change clutch pads, that were damaged, dunno if fuel ever touched it though? maybe from outside in clutch ccase gasket...
I’m trying to figure out how to take the little devil out my dailies just shot out on me after a year and a half of riding and that little flat head screw that holds it in place won’t budge
You're going to have to get it off somehow. I've had to stand them off and then get a new plate and screw. My last resort is always an impact hammer driver
fired my bike for the 1st time today...was trying to break it in...my primary drive gear teeth woreout or striped out compleatly...what would cause that...motor was runing fine and the clutch seem to be working fine...then i was just coasting...???motor is not seized up
Needs to be properly greased at all times. one little slip or skip will just chew them up. also make sure the gear is pushed back all the way to increase surface area between the two gears teeth.
I just purchased some Zeda motors balanced crank engines. Waay better than any i found 8mm mount studs 40mm wide front mount upgraded roller bearings. I will make a review vid and link on where to get them. DONT BUY EBAY MOTORS!! spend the extra money and get one that will last 10,000+ miles!
Your video was the most detailed I've seen on removing the drive gear I appreciate your information
3:07 im having the same problem my new gear is a lil snug wat did you do to get it on did you bang it on with a hammer ?

brian noel Here to help!
Hey bro great video! Thanks for making it. Just pucking up a wc 80 and the drive gear ⚙️ is wobbling. It's tight but it's off.

Did u ever figure out how to get gear back on? trying to research before I take mine apart and cant find the answer anywhere

I had the same thing happen and i was going to take the screw from a non running motor so i dont have to wait a week for shipping. But i cant get that screw off
I locked the motor up and used a manual impact driver. (Kind you hit with a hammer)
You can also get a paddle bit for wood working and gut grind off the tip. Works great.

My 80cc 2 stroke engine small bevel gear is not grabbing the crank. Do you have any ideas
How did you get the gear to go back down
what type/size washer was on the screw? mine back out so much it grinded it to pieces and cant tell. it also drilled whole through my crank case
+Dakota Petrey its a star washer. Put red locktite on it next time. That thing will disintegrate if it comes loose
thanks for making this video just had mine come loose going down the road
My screw that holds my crankshaft drive gear in place is extremely stripped, and I cannot remove it

I wanted to see how you got the gear flush?!?!?! Did you use a rubber malet?
Thank you for putting the screw it into description of where to get one because mine got completely stripped
I cannot for the life of me get the bolt TAHT holds the the bevel gear on off. Any advice?
Hey man I opened my clutch gear cover and the small bevel gear sticks out 2-3 mm is this normal Or does it need tighting ? Can I leave it this way?
goo.gl/images/eshSYJ
This is not mine but on mine the screw sits flush with the small gear but the small gear is raised up a few 2-3 mm higher than the big gear
+GEORGEVASS GAMING ad long as the wooduff key is in place. Ive seen them stick out a tiny bit. Depends on thr engine
Motored Life ok thnaks
Right on I just blew my gear, got a new one need to put it on, thanks
What size is the gear puller?
Very helpful 😊
I need a video of how to replace the crank on a 80 cc thanks
Mines just did the same thing I didn’t see the screw that holds the gear on I think it got ate up because the drive gear is cracked in half
Good vid this will help me.
Figured Id show how to do it and where to get the stuff.
Motored Life Thank you so much!

Motored Life I'm having a acceleration problem with my pk80 OK I will share it too my channel and put your info under title?

Hello, if I overtighten that bolt with the long cut, the bike hardly turns over. It's very hard to move the wheel.
Make sure the seal behind it is in the right place
@@MotoredLife It was. It's all fixed. Runs like a champ now!
U can stick a penny in the gears it is softer then the steel gears it should keep it from spinning have not broke a gear but do at owe risk
What happened if I don't use Round Column Bolt for the small bevel gear you think my clutch start slipping
Thanks Alex, useful as always...
How to remove and replace the crackshaft seal that is behind this gear?
TulioTheGreenWizard its easier to do that of the whole case is split
but then again one would have to fully rebuild the engine if is going to split the case, I it possible for these seals to damage with fuel leaking from carb drowning the engine? i want to make sure i didnt lose compression nor have air leak, but im not motivated in spliting everything. TulioTheGreenWizard I mean sometimes. Take a larger socket and try to tap it back in.
thats for putting it back right? but how to remove? without split?
TulioTheGreenWizard honestly every time I have tried I ruined the small metal spring that keeps it sealed. I wish I had a better answer.
My clutch is shot along with the bevel gear. Too much metal on metal grinding

The big screw won't come out....how do I get it out?
You may need to pull the clutch arm in the break it loose
Think bicycle crank arm puller. Grease grease grease! Grease the threads, grease the puller pin threads too. Ask any classically trained bicycle mechanic.
fired my bike for the 1st time today...was trying to break it in...my primary drive gear teeth woreout or striped out compleatly...what would cause that...motor was runing fine and the clutch seem to be working fine...then i was just coasting...???motor is not seized up
same here
i don't mind haven to replace it...but don't know why or what made the gear strip out...is it going to happen again
Dennis Skindzier my worries to, I can't find any answers on Google as to how it got chewed
Needs to be properly greased at all times. one little slip or skip will just chew them up. also make sure the gear is pushed back all the way to increase surface area between the two gears teeth.
I have a gas leak, would that fuel get passed the gasket
Thanks...just stripped mine on the way to work...at the bottom of a hill. Yee haw.
I wish I could show a picture. it's really bad splinters of metal all over
my step dad said my motor chains to tight and that's were the stress went, do you guys agree?
had the motor a day
i took mine out for the 1st time today....ran it maby 5 miles total
I just purchased some Zeda motors balanced crank engines. Waay better than any i found 8mm mount studs 40mm wide front mount upgraded roller bearings.

Phantom v2 clutch and bezel gear sucks.
Magna... WHY
It's a cheap frame
@@MotoredLife YES..... Very Cheap
