Super inspiring video and the beat at the end is a hugely satisfying payoff. I love your gear choices, especially mixing through that wonderful Portastudio. Man after my own heart.
It might be because they use the same exact sound chips. The old SP1200 used an older chip that they don't make anymore. And the new ones are in both machines. The guy at Isla asked Mr. Rossum for permission to replicate the S2400 and use the same chips. So you might not see /hear the difference !
The bass is actually in the sample.. but yeah, usually I am creating the bass in Ableton, because the s2400 only has 8 polyphony and I use it up really quickly by layering two snares and two hihats, so half of the polyphony is already gone haha
suggestions??You didn't need the second camera side view, and yes the lighting and sound could have been tighter. The beat was nice yet you didn't explain what you were doing for almost 10 minutes..The content is fine, and the delivery will get better..
Swing is swing. Don't be fooled by internet nerds talking about magic dust inside some old sequencers creating these incredible grooves. Swing/groove is just delaying every other note. Classic MPCs for example had steady clocks, which is why they were popular among professionals. Modern machines by default again have steady clocks. You can get the same swing on any DAW by just quantizing for the same amount. SP-1200 is 24 PPQ if I got it correctly, which means the fastest note on that machine is a 1/96. So on Logic, Cubase, Rearper or any DAW quantize to 1/96 - boom, "SP swing". Everything after that is sample starts, programming and having rhythm in terms of the actual timing separate of sounds and mix. Roger Linn himself has debunked any MPC swing myths multiple times. SP is no exception.
@@asbeluxt what’s your workflow out of the 2400 in to ableton, looks like you’re moving on hardware mixer first? Trying to work this out myself so interested 🙂
@@sinewaves1631 while I am working on a beat, I am using the EQs, reverb, panning and volume faders on my mixer to get a rough mix. As soon as the beat is finished, I record all 8 channels one after another into Ableton by soloing the individual channel, because my mixer only has a stereo output. But I want to have control over every single sound in Ableton, even though it's a bit more complicated than just using the USB out of the S2400. Also I really love the EQs on my tascam + my little microverb, it just makes my beats sound more analog.
@@asbeluxt thanks it’s what I’m trying to do with my hardware mixer. Two questions if you don’t mind: do you have problems with latency/jitter doing tracks individually in to ableton. Mine don’t line up..? And also you mention reverb. How do you bounce that in to ableton or don’t you?
@@sinewaves1631 I never had any latency problems and my tracks line up correctly... Maybe you need to push the individual tracks a bit to the left or right in Ableton? I always set the correct tempo in Ableton and let the loop run through the whole time on the S2400 while soloing the individual tracks to make sure they are in time with each other. I hope that made sense.. And I record my drums with the reverb enabled, so they get printed together
Super dope!!!
Tempted to get one. I've been rock the MPC for years.
Worked on an SP 1200 back in the 90's.
Dope beat!!!
great stuff dude, you seem to be finding your way around pretty quickly.
Yess the workflow is really intuitive! Thanks again for this beautiful sampler ❤️
You got tha flava bro...
Dope zhit bro 🔥🧨💥🤘
yo thats some 90s boom bap beat !!! nice one .

Dope beat. I am still trying to find the $2400 difference in the Isla S2400 & the Rossum SP-1200. I can't see nor hear a $2400 difference.

They sound identical to me.
That was dope how you freaked the best at 10:46💪🏾💯
Beat 🔥🔥🔥 what brand 8 track recorder is that?
Thanks man! It's a tascam portastudio 488 mk2
Im guessing you created the bass patterns in Ableton, i didnt see you play it out on the s2400. It's probably easier in DAW i assume

@@asbeluxt now it has 16 note polyphony 💪
@@LAOPECOM oh that's sooo sick, I didn't know about that until now.. gonna make the update right now, thanks for the tip! :D
Is that a Tascam 8 track cassette recorder you are using as the mixer?
yes it's a Tascam Portastudio 488 mkII to be exact :)
Nice one homie
🔥🔥🔥
Respekt ! Direkt wieder in den 90s
Nice one!
Nasty!!!
äußerst schmackhaft ❤️
Danke mein Lieber!
DOPE ! ! !
Dope
Dope track!
Still killin'
Great video man. A good tool for better audio would be the iRig Stream. Simple and effective.
Yea the Irig is the way to go! Good advice!
I already have an audio interface but thanks for the advice anyways :)
@@asbeluxt I meant to record the audio for the video.
Excellent👌🏼🔥
Nice!

schöner beat luca gerne mehr sowas! original audio wär noch sick
danke danke! du meinst dass ich einfach direkt über meine soundkarte aufnehmen soll, was aus der S2400 kommt?

You gotta be kidding me
Nice beat man! What do you think about the swing if we compare to the SP1200?
Unfortunately I never owned a SP1200 so I don't know.. but I do like the swing for sure!

im confused how did you make it sound good at the very end?
I mixed the beat in Ableton after I made it on the S2400 so you guys have a preview of the final sound
