If you just want the demos:
    1:26 Example 1
    4:09 Example 2
    5:47 Example 3
    8:15 Example 4
    10:40 Example 5
    13:10 Example 6
    14:43 Example 7
    17:58 Example 8
[EDIT] I referred to USB MSC mode as "machine mode" when I meant mass storage class. I also muddled a few other bits of technical information which is what happens when I speak off the cuff without a script. Apologies.

Yes. It can do _that_ sound, but it's anything but a copy. They basically asked what you'd want an instrument like this to do and then made it.

This is the only one drum machine that was dropped straight to the floor, then Brad turned it on again and it kept working 👌 a strong tank made to last, an advanced high end piece build and inspired to bring back the organic sound through the simplest workflow ever known, thanks to drum machines like sp-12 and the sp 1200 but including a bunch of new features that makes it greater.
    However...
Is not what we have, is about what we do with it.
I'm still awaiting for mine, when I get it I will take some time to post a good review about the S2400.
Much love for Isla Instruments and its hard working team ¡ 🍻🇨🇴🧡

Those old mixers (they were branded as 'Realistic' here in the UK) were built like tanks too, I had a four channel one that had a master graphic EQ and I would route the headphone output back into a channel and you'd get tuneable feedback by tweaking the graphic EQ and some proper grunge with a drum machine running through another channel. Been trying to get hold of another for years!

This is very similar to the Yamaha SU700 I used to have in the 90's. Same idea. Back in the day they called these phrase samplers. This looks like it carries the same type of frustrations when it comes to versatility.

    • @shaft9000

I am feeling more and more like this sort of retro-fied gear is , in the end, just a (space-hoggin' in this case) replacement for gear that had to use a zip or disk drive.
If any of these companies were half as 'enviro-conscious' as they'd like us to believe, then they'd be offering to retrofit and recap their existing products instead of planned-obsolescence-ing 90% of them into eventual landfill.

    • @adrianmccombe625
      @adrianmccombe625 3 роки тому

@@shaft9000 quite true. The fact that they keep bring out new soundcards that do exactly what they did 15 years ago except have a new connection(usb/FireWire/usb C) is a great example.
Hardware is addictive though and can be a really creative tool. I got bored shitless with computer sequencers years ago. I still use them but they are really boring.

I’m so glad that this was brought out to us by a ‘boutique’ sort of small operation, and not some gargantuan behemoth corporation such as Behringer. Although big corporations can bring this sort of gear to us at really great prices, i wouldn’t want to think that ‘throwbacks to the classics’ of hardware could only be made by a few privileged companies. This instrument’s designer really put his all into this one, and the labors of his endeavors really show. The look and aesthetic of the Emu sp-12 / 1200 are well preserved with the cheeks and all, and it looks hardy and rugged. I’m not expecting to see very many of these, but I think it’s more likely that this is gonna find its way next to my turntables quicker than an old Emu SP would. Paying quite so much for a sampling groove box that only yields like ten seconds of sampling 12 bits @ 26 kHz, and then waiting for an antique mechanical floppy drive to save my work onto a handful of floppies seems a bit like self torture, no offense intended Alex. Wait?! OMG, does this thing have the old hinged front panel, like my old Ensoniq KS32?! It’s been awhile since I’ve needed to change it’s battery so I nearly forgot the ease of access of those hinged hoods. Dammit! The more I’m thinking about this, the angrier the look I’m getting from my MV8800. Thanks again Alex! Good to see a piece of BOTH lesser known AND NEW gear make it’s way under your radar!!

      @AlexBallMusic  4 роки тому

Cheers. The down-sampling was covered in the last tutorial video (video 7 / tutorial #6). The steps are:
      1) Use line inputs 1&2 or phono 1
      2) Sample at 26KHz
      3) Pitch down after sampling
      4) Use the classic audio engine
      5) Engage the output filters
Clocking will covered in tutorial #8 with all the midi and USB stuff.

@ hiya it’s really difficult to compare the 2 because their workflow is so different; if you’re new to sequencing and samples digitakt2 is great place to start, can’t go wrong; I just found the s2400 made me think and compose differently. If you’re a veteran samplist then having both will suit different writing styles, if I was to generalise, I’d use digitakt for EDM/pop, and S2400 for RnB, rap stuff, but that’s just my opinion! Was this endorsed or licensed by Dave Rossum (E-Mu)? I've had long chats with him about the relaunch of the SP12 over the past few years. The last time we spoke he was undecided whether he would make a mini version, or a full size with a hoarde of extra new features. That was at Superbooth '19, I was hoping to see him at Superbooth 20 with the view to discussing a modular drum kit for his updated machine using my hand built gear. Sadly Superbooth 20 never went ahead.
Seems he either sold the idea on to ISLA or they used the out of copyright designs & kits. Rossum did mention quietly in my ear that he didn't want the Behringer boys getting word of this, so it's odd that it surfaced under another company.

It's all well & good until you need tech support, I remember buying their first product the "Kordbot" & tried to get support on it & it was a nightmare they seemed too busy working on new gear to respond, now they're trying to sell a premium product, better hope it doesn't run into any glitches & then you end up with a $2000 dead box like I did with mine. One thing about buying gear from smaller companies is its a risk but the good ones always have great support, Even back in the early days of Dave Smith Instruments when they first released the Evolver is they had great support from day one. HARD pass on any ISLA products bc if you're not an influencer their support sucks, keep up the great videos Alex.

THIS is how I will use mine. Sampling old drum machines and then throw in a few ambient samples which I grab from my synths or the real world.. Most of what I hear from other users is Boom Bap, Hip Hop, and sampling other peoples loops or vinyl. WHICH IS GREAT, but not my personal goal.. I plan on it being a bit more Portishead. I'll throw in some jazz acoustic kits and some ambient keys. But also filling it up with every vintage DMX, LINN, CR78, etc...Thanks Alex. I learned so much....2400 arrival still pending.

It has a song mode! Digitakt tries pretty hard not to be compatible with a song-mode approach to making music, so it's a pain to make things on it when doing horizontal-first composition (sequence a single part for the length of a song, then go back to add other parts, then adjust mixing and voicing and such).

So you didn't listen to the A/B comparisons then? The plot thins.

The word is "clickbait" and I'm not sure how a machine can be clickbait, but I assume you're saying that the nod to the SP is deliberate, which nobody is questioning.
_"your just another steamer chasing the clout"_
"Your" refers to possession like "your cat, your dog, your house". If you want to say "you are" then the contraction of "you" and "are" is "you're". That'll help you avoid undermining your own points in future. You're welcome.
      _"Sorry I could Careless"_
The saying is "I couldn't care less". Careless is a separate word that means "not giving sufficient attention or thought to avoiding harm or errors" which is actually beautifully ironic here. Also, if you _could_ care less then that means that you care, but then judging by your comments and attitude, perhaps that is actually more fitting. ;)

As a fellow budget-limited musician, If you're looking for something more affordable, and that is also a polyphonic sampler (you can sample your VSTs or classic synths note-by-note, and with some searching you can find many synths multi-sampled online for free in community groups), also with some decent plugins built-in, check out the Akai Force. It is arguably the best "standalone" sequencer/sampler on the market, even if it isn't perfect yet, and it is much more affordable. It even has a large touch screen interface and an 8x8 pad grid with a "note" mode so an extra keyboard isn't a necessity.
I'm sure this ISLA machine can beat it in many regards, but for the price the Force can't be beat right now. It is one of the most under-appreciated pieces of gear on the market because until the recent 3.0.5 and 3.0.6 updates, it was really lacking. But now it has come into it's own, and hopefully the next updates will improve on some of the minor missing feature implementations.
