At least prequels and Order 66 case gave a lot better explanation why Republic and Jedi Order lost Clone Wars, because as I remember aside of first Thrawn trilogy and "Dark Empire" there was practically no info about Clone Wars in Legends EU.
Thrawn even mentioned that Clones turned on Jedi Generals because of so called "Clone Madness" syndrome caused by rapid enchanced grow of the clone which put it in to "desynchronised absorbtion" of the Force which at the end drove them mad, and because of this he started to use Isalamiri lizards in his own clone facility in order to cut growing up clones from the Force*.

Which new one? It hasn't started yet, the Rebels are just doing guerrilla/terrorist tactics until they're strong enough to actually face the Empire *head on.* So far, this show is all about growth and sabotage, there's still no GRAND war between the Rebels and the Empire, otherwise the Star Destroyers would annihilate the Rebel Fleet to quickly. Where's a show with no Rebels? (though I guess that's about to change soon, if last episode was anything to go by) ;)

    • @MrDibara
      @MrDibara 7 років тому +2

I don't knowif they're strong and unified enough. I don't think the conflicts they spur can be described as "war," unless it's a "war against terrorism" kind of thing, because that's the most these cells have accomplished thus far. Terrorist attacks. They're nowhere near to becoming a full faction capable of going head on against the Empire, so the Galaxy is still pretty much "unified" under the Empire.
I'll start believing there's a war once the Ghost crew and company manage to gather enough forces and resources and actually start taking on the Empire head on, which I have a feeling won't be happening for a while.
This show is called "Rebels", after all, and their tactics were always mostly infiltration, spying, sabotage, hit and run, basically avoid ingdirect conflict as much as possible because they *can't* fight a full lengh war yet like what happened in the prievious show, "The Clone *Wars"* with its MASSIVE ammount of soldiers and battleships.
The Rebels are just not ready for that kind of heat yet, so until they are, I'm not really up to calling this a straight up "war", if you know what I mean.

They typically do. The whole thing was that on the Death Star I the Stormtroopers had orders not to kill the intruders so they could be interrogated. The plan was that they'd funnel them towards Vader and he'd disarm and capture them. The other films just parodied that and turned it into a franchise-wide joke, but outside the big and small screens, the Stormtroopers are actually pretty formidable. It's just they were trained individually and don't have much synchronicity in a squad, unless they're friends with the others.

I know. It makes me dislike Rebels even more by comparison. Rebels paints Rex and the other clones as hollow shells of who they once were, when that's exactly the opposite of how they would end up after the war. The Rex we know and love would be out there fighting the empire from day one, not hiding out in a walker like a depressed old man. It would be hard to swallow the reality they were fighting a pointless war, but that would only make Rex more resolved to fight the empire that's trying to destroy everything the Republic built. He doesn't need Teenage Space Aladin to come give him a pep talk. Rex would have already moved on. He's a soldier with a duty to the Republic who lost the jedi he called friends to the empire that betrayed him and all his clone brothers. He'd be fighting back, not hiding in depression. If the Republic is being threatened by the empire's rule, then it's time to take out the empire! He wouldn't stand by and let them crush the very Republic he served and cared about his entire life. Rebels is an insult to Rex's character.

What I remember about the rise of the Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word.

No. By the time of Rebels, most clones were circulated out and replaced with regular humans. The clones didn't "turn to the dark side". The Empire made sure to get rid of clones as quickly as possible because even Palpatine knew their undying loyalty could theoretically be used against him. The Empire decided to focus on numbers instead of training, which is why Stormtroopers are inferior in every way.

@@ryanconner6364 I admit I liked Kanan and Hera in the Bad Batch. They were well written and fun to watch in the Bad Batch. Their art style and animation were a lot better in Bad Batch, and they were integrated into the Bad Batch's story well in ways that contributed to the tragedy of the jedi purge and the takeover of the empire on worlds like Ryloth. I also enjoyed seeing Cham Syndulla and Hera's mother, and was glad they stuck with Cham's Clone Wars depiction instead of the one from Rebels.
Yes, I understand a lot of people like Rebels, and that among the main cast, Kanan is better liked than most of them. If Rebels was only about Hera and Kanan, that would have made the show a thousand times better. But anytime Hera and Kanan have a chance to shine, Ezra and the others interrupt them every time and ruin any chemistry between the two. Even people who like Rebels often complain that Ezra is annoying and a bad role model for kids watching the show. Ezra is the worst character of the show. Chopper is at least useful, while Zeb is just there to be the muscular comic relief character (though I did like the episode where Zeb and Agent Callus have to work together to survive). And Sabine is the angsty artistic mandalorian who doesn't deserve the darksaber. Pre Vizsla was awesome with the darksaber, and Maul's victory against him to earn the darksaber was brilliant. But Sabine? After Maul's gone, she just picks up the darksaber and is like 'guess this is mine now' and walks off with it. She didn't defeat Maul and earn it. She just picked it up and claimed it. You could say I am biased given that I love Maul as a character, but it really bothers me the writers of the show just handed it over to Sabine, who is far inferior to the those who wielded the darksaber before her. I actually breathed a sigh of relief when Moff Gideon ended up with the darksaber in the Mandalorian. And that's sad. I'd rather the Empire have the darksaber than Sabine Wren any day. And technically it doesn't belong to Bo-katan either despite her claims. Sabine gave it to her, but Bo-katan didn't defeat Maul and earn it for herself either. So even though I like Bo-katan, she doesn't really deserve the darksaber either. I also greatly dislike how Sabine is the key to retaking Mandalore from the Empire. I hope another season of the Mandalorian rewrites this or at least decreases Sabine's role in it. Din Jarrin and Bo-katan would make for a far better story to retake Mandalore than Sabine's in Rebels.
I was glad Sabine was not in The Mandalorian. And I hope we don't see Ezra return in anything. Especially not in Ahsoka's live action show. If there's a show about Sabine and Ezra finding each other again or something like that, fine, but it better not drag Ahsoka or any Clone Wars characters into it. However, like in the Bad Batch, where they actually do a good job with Kanan and Hera for once, I remain open to other shows that have the Rebels characters as long as they do it right this time. As long as Sabine doesn't end up with the darksaber and doesn't become the focus of a new mandalorian season, I might be okay with her being a part of the fight to retake Mandalore. Or if Hera shows up again, that's fine as long as she's written well. I remain cautiously optimistic. But Ezra? I never want to see him again. In anything. I dislike his character that much.
Rebels is basically a retcon of The Force Unleashed videogame, said videogame being far better than Rebels in every way. Ezra is just a watered down annoying version of Starkiller, and even adopts the same buzzcut hairstyle like Starkiller. Both also have their own taste of the darkside and are apprentices who end up mentored by a blind jedi. Kanan looks just like a younger version of Rahm Kota from the Force Unleashed, from the hair bun in the back to the military-like gear they wear. Rahm Kota is blinded by a lightsaber to the eyes, just like Kanan is blinded by a lightsaber to the eyes. Hera and Juno are both female pilots named after the same goddess from different mythologies. Even their ships have similar designs, the Rogue Shadow and the Ghost. Both have the female pilot in love with the force-sensitive guy on the ship. And Ahsoka holds her new lightsabers in a reverse, back-angled grip exactly like Starkiller does from The Force Unleashed 2. In the Force Unleashed, Starkiller brings the rebel leaders together to officially form the Rebel Alliance, and his family crest is the iconic three-pronged symbol we see as the symbol of the Alliance. And in Rebels, they do the same thing, but worse. They bring the leaders together to form the rebellion, and instead of the Marek crest in honor of Starkiller's sacrifice as the symbol of the rebellion, it's a random artwork Sabine does of a Phoenix, distorting the original concept from the original trilogy. And the best they could do with Ezra was space whales that travel through space with Thrawn as a finale. When we could have had Starkiller facing off against Darth Sidious lightning vs lightning and sacrificing himself to save the rebel leaders. When I first saw the advertisement on TV about a 3D animated Rebels show, I was excited because I thought we were going to see the story of The Force Unleashed brought to television, or something with the Clone Wars characters, or something completely on its own that didn't drag Clone Wars into it. And then Rebels came and ruined it. Rebels has some interesting concepts and ideas, but they could have been executed better and utilized in a show that didn't restrict itself to kiddy-land. Rebels felt like scooby-do in space, and the empire doesn't even feel threatening anymore. And they had to water down all the Clone Wars characters and drag them through the mud by forcing them to go along with the Ghost crew's characters all the time.
I have nothing against those that like Rebels. Honestly, more power to them for being able to enjoy something others don't. But compared to Clone Wars, the Bad Batch, and The Mandalorian, Rebels is pretty disappointing. It could have easily been replaced by the Bad Batch and The Force Unleashed, which are far better stories. I like Kanan and Hera in Bad Batch because they were actually written well, had better animation and character design, and were actually portrayed well. But in Rebels they're done a disservice. If the Rebels characters return in other StarWars stuff, I just hope they're done a lot better than they were in Rebels. Bad Batch made me like Kanan and Hera for the first time, when an entire series of Rebels couldn't accomplish this. Two episodes of Bad Batch made me like them. But I still don't like them in Rebels. I only like the Bad Batch versions of them so far.

@@ryanconner6364 Both Ezra and Ahsoka learn to become jedi, yes, but Ahsoka was done a lot better, and had a fully trained jedi knight as her mentor. Kanan was a padawan when the purge began, and even he admits in the show that he might not be the best teacher because of it. A lot of people disliked Ahsoka at first because they felt she was an annoying character that stole the spotlight from Anakin, but Ahsoka became a fan favorite because she made terrible mistakes, learned from them, admitted openly where she went wrong, and was stronger going forward. All her negative traits slowly disappear as she learns to heed the wisdom and advice of her master, the other jedi, and others she encounters. And the evidence of lasting change for her character is made clear as the series continues. Her conflicts were more diverse than Ezra's as well. Ezra's main conflict is 'should I be good, or should I be bad?' And he struggles to discern good from bad many times. Ahsoka was a teenager like Ezra, but she was already mature enough to figure this out, and never asked herself 'is this a good thing or a bad thing?' Where Ezra was annoying, Ahsoka was naïve and overconfident. As the Clone Wars continued, Ahsoka overcame that naivety and overconfidence, and adopted patience, caution, and a realization that not everything is so black and white. Ezra makes mistakes, but he doesn't appear to learn from them in subsequent episodes, and when he has a plan or says something stupid, the rest of the characters take his immaturity seriously and address it as if it has weight to it. They actually listen to the terrible plans he comes up with, and they always let him get away with everything. They tell Ezra he can't go with Sabine on this mission, and Ezra insists to Hera that he go, and she gives in and lets him go along as backup anyway. He always gets his way even if the other characters lecture him or don't like it. Whereas Ahsoka's punishments always felt more serious, and she always learned something from them in the end. Ahsoka learned humility. Whereas if Ezra gets punished, he's always so annoyed with the others and still thinks they're the problem instead of him. He doesn't show a lot of remorse, and when he does, it doesn't last very long before he's back to getting his way again.
Yes, I did not like that line in the Vader vs Ahsoka episode either. It's supposed to be an intense scene, and then Ezra butts in with an annoying line to ruin the whole scene. He interrupts Ahsoka and Vader's story just to be sarcastic, and it's obnoxious.
I would not say Ezra is well trained. His training is limited because Kanan was never fully trained, and while his lightsaber being a hybrid lightsaber and blaster is a unique concept, he never does anything interesting with it that rivals the lightsaber duels we see in the Clone Wars or the prequels. And because the villains such as inquisitors and Vader are watered down so much, they look pathetic when Ezra and Kanan actually stand a chance against them. If you've played Jedi Fallen Order you'd see how deadly inquisitors are. There's no way Ezra or Kanan would stand a chance against one of them. And in Jedi Fallen Order, Cal Kestis, a jedi knight, can't even fight Vader because he's so powerful. Jedi run in the presence of Vader. And in the Force Unleashed 2 even force lightning from Starkiller doesn't phase him. Yet you're telling me Ezra can actually prevent Vader from killing him with his own lightsaber? And that Kanan can even stand two seconds against him? Vader would kill both of them in an instant. It's ridiculous that they have to bring Vader so low in Rebels that he can't swat down two jedi padawans in a minute. Ezra and Kanan would be running from him, not turning to face him. And the inquisitors were trained personally by Vader, and were once jedi themselves. So Ezra and Kanan don't stand a chance as they are right now.
Sabine is a Mary Sue. She can do almost anything she sets her mind to in most episodes. She's also an artist, the princess of the mandalorians, and gets the darksaber (which she never earned). Sure, she struggles to wield the darksaber against Kanan, but that's because she's never used a sword-like melee weapon before. Yet she manages to beat Kanan in a fit of rage, which doesn't say much about Sabine as a person, and realistically she shouldn't have been able to defeat Kanan that soon, since Kanan has been trained for years as a padawan how to wield a lightsaber. Despite his incomplete training, he still has a lot more experience with it than Sabine. No matter how caring or brave Ezra/Sabine are portrayed as, it doesn't mean they're skilled or make good leaders. Yes, Sabine understood she wasn't meant to lead Mandalore and gave the darksaber to Bo-katan, which was a relief, but she shouldn't have had it in the first place.
I liked Agent Kallus. I wish he was more competent against the Ghost crew when he was their enemy, but his redemption arc was cool. He was one of the few Rebels characters I actually liked, and I liked the episode where he and Zeb have to work together to survive. I'm a sucker for redeemed villains, and his redemption arc was done pretty well.
I disagree when it comes to the Clone Wars characters, though. The Ghost crew characters take away from the episodes featuring Ahsoka, Vader, Maul, Hondo, etc. Part of why Clone Wars was so successful was because it didn't restrict itself to one group of characters. Every few episodes would revolve around a different conflict in the war and focus on different sets of characters. One arc might be about the bounty hunters. Another about the clones. Another about Anakin and Padme. Another about Obiwan and Satine. Another about R2D2 and C3PO. One about politics in the senate. One about a battle for a planet. The show didn't revolve around Anakin and Obiwan the entire show, nor did it solely focus on just the battles in the war. We got to see a wide range of stories that were kept separate from each other on purpose to allow each set of characters to have their own time to shine without all the other characters needing to be there to steal a piece of the action. The opposite is true of Rebels. Whenever Ahsoka, Maul, Obiwan, etc. have an arc in Rebels, Ezra and the Ghost crew have to be a part of it. Why can't the show take a break from the Ghost crew and just let the episode be about Vader and Ahsoka, or Obiwan and Maul? Why does Ezra have to be there? Why does Kanan have to be there? Why does Sabine have to be there? None of them should be interfering with moments like this. But because Rebels has decided that everything has to include the Ghost crew cast, we can't go one episode without one of them being there like helicopter parents casting a shadow over the Clone Wars characters at all times. If the writers of Rebels really wanted to honor the Clone Wars characters, they should have left them out of Rebels entirely. And yes, I've heard the rumors about the Ahsoka show starring Ezra and Sabine, and yes, it's possible I might like them in that show, but I'm not looking forward to seeing them again due to the bad experience I had with them in Rebels. If they steal the focus from Ahsoka or are written to be as annoying as they were in Rebels, I'm not interested.
I haven't watched StarWars Resistance, but I've heard it ain't great. However, it doesn't drag down the Clone Wars characters, and remains separate from both Rebels and CW, whereas Rebels tried to be a sequel to Clone Wars. So while Resistance might be disliked or considered worse than Rebels, I'm fine with it because it doesn't mess with the stories of the Clone Wars characters, which could have been animated and written better if Rebels wasn't involved.

@@ryanconner6364 I can agree that Ezra cares for his friends and the people of the galaxy, but that doesn't mean he's a great character. Some say he was annoying because he was a teenager, but that is an unfair stereotype of teenagers in general, and Ahsoka was a teenager for the entire Clone Wars series. But she wasn't considered annoying, just naïve and overconfident. Both she and Ezra had good intentions, but only Ahsoka was competent from the start, had good ideas/plans from the beginning, and didn't argue when others pointed out her faults. Ezra was incompetent, most of his plans were badly thought out (and something always goes wrong with them), and he defends his faults and tries to self-justify his actions to anyone who tries to make him see where he went wrong. He also starts off selfish, only caring about himself on Lothal, and is always morally unsure of everything like a child. Ahsoka never had to question if what she was doing was right or wrong. She just knew. And if she was proven wrong, she admitted it and humbled herself. Ezra seems to show remorse at times, but it only lasts a few episodes before we see him make a similar mistake a few episodes later. He never truly learns his lesson, whereas you can tell Ahsoka took such lessons to heart because it shows for the rest of the series. We hardly recognize the Ahsoka from the beginning of the show to the end of the show. Yes, Ezra does develop to be more selfless and wants to help others, but his intentions are rarely supported by a competent plan of action, and he's still annoying by the end of the show. Ezra stands in the way of the other characters' development, always taking the sole focus off the Clone Wars characters who we all want to see instead, and even interrupts potentially dramatic scenes between other members of the Ghost crew like Hera and Kanan.
Kanan is not a 'great jedi.' He never rose above the rank of padawan, and he's pretty weak compared to most jedi. Having to train a brat like Ezra held his character back by sticking him with a troublesome teenager to look out for. When we could be watching his relationship with Hera develop, and explore his rejection of the jedi's 'no attachments and romance' policy, as well as his life after the purge, how he met Hera, etc. Kanan's best moments in the show occur when Ezra is not around. I also dislike how he was able to evade Maul after Maul blinded him with his lightsaber. Maul is far stronger than Kanan, both with the force and lightsaber combat. Maul defeated at least ten jedi from padawans to masters, yet he gets thrown off a cliff by a blind ex-jedi padawan? I don't buy it. That's ridiculous. Maul would have killed him easily. Maul has to be watered down in Rebels so that Kanan can survive, and that's bad writing. I got excited when Maul whipped around and blinded Kanan. I thought it was the end of him, that perhaps Kanan's death would finally make the rest of the Ghost crew step it up a notch for once and learn from the tragedy. But no. Kanan gets a lucky shot at Maul, and it's disgusting. And just because Kanan trained Ezra and Sabine doesn't make him a great jedi. He did the best he could with his limited training of his own. That is all. And he ended up defeated by Sabine who had far less experience than him, which is both unfair to Kanan and doesn't really say much about him.
Yes, I am open to Rebels characters appearing in the Ahsoka show, and because the show is about Ahsoka, I'd like to assume they'll keep the spotlight primarily on Ahsoka, but given my experience with the Rebels characters always having a stake in Ahsoka's story in Rebels, I don't have any good confidence that Disney will keep Sabine and Ezra's roles to a minimum. I remain cautiously optimistic, but my standards are set pretty low in case it ends up a disappointment. I hope the Ahsoka show is good, just like I hope the Obiwan show is good, and the Boba Fett show, and so on, but because Disney has made some bad stuff like Solo and the sequel trilogy before, I can never trust that all future StarWars stuff will automatically be great despite the recent success with The Bad Batch, Clone Wars: Season 7, and The Mandalorian.
I'm not trying to prove you wrong either, and none of this is a personal attack. I believe it is important to understand differing opinions on the show, and to analyze the content itself. It's good to hear a different perspective, and again, more power to you for being able to enjoy the show. I still don't like Rebels overall despite enjoying a small fraction of it here and there, but I respect your opinion.
And yes, Clone Wars is my all-time favorite TV show ever. The only other show that rivals it is Avatar: The Last Airbender.

@@ryanconner6364 I never asked you to delete your replies for my sake or anyone else's. You're not deleting them 'for me' as you claim. Because why would I even want that? It's not like I wanted you to delete your comments. You have asked me not to question why you have deleted your comments. I won't ask why you deleted your comments, so don't worry about that, but know I appreciated your comments anyway, and I was never trying to discourage you from further comments. It will look strange with so many replies to someone whose comments are no longer there in this chain of reply comments from me, as if I were replying to a ghost, but that doesn't mean I'm going to remove my comments just because you requested I do so. It took me at least an hour to write each of those comments, and everyone else will remain free to see them even if they may never know the context your comments once provided. It may seem silly to some that I take so long to reply to someone, especially about a fictional show about StarWars that doesn't really affect anything in the grand scheme of things in reality, but I take the time to write out my comments with as accurate wording as possible because I take the topic of discussion seriously, and I take the person I am replying to seriously. By the time others read this, you may have deleted the comment you just made asking me to delete my comments in this chain. But I will not be deleting my comments just because you deleted yours. This is not some polite gesture you've made that somehow obligates me to do the same. If you delete your comments, I have no problem with it, but I have no rational or logical reason to do the same. You also asked me not to reply to your latest comment, and yes, I have not complied with your request. My comments will remain as a testament that I have never personally attacked you in past comments, and no offense was ever intended towards you as a person. So asking me not to reply to you this time doesn't seem to be a result of you perceiving my comments as somehow provocative against you. I won't ask you to explain why you didn't want me to reply to this, but consider this; you tell me to delete my comments, you tell me not to ask why, and yet you expect me not to reply to you? If you don't give someone a reason you're asking them to delete their comments, and then ask them to just accept it and do what you say with zero explanation why, it's only natural the other person isn't going to comply with your request. Because you haven't given them a reason to. It's not fair to ask someone to do something without giving them a reason of any kind, and if you can't provide a reason, don't want to provide a reason, or your reasons are very sensitive or personal in nature and cannot be disclosed, then you at least have to explain why you can't even give a reason.
A lot of people will probably shake their heads at this argument. If this seems petty in any way I apologize for any perception of immaturity others may now have regarding me.
However, due to the deletion of Ryan Connor's previous comments in this chain of comments, I feel it is only necessary I add context this time to how this specific comment came about. Hence the context provided below. I include this not to offend Ryan Connor, but to add necessary context to others who may come across this in passing.
