The natural world of ours is filled to the brim with all sorts of wonders. And it is these wonders that inspire us to create equally wonderous beasts and creatures in the fictional worlds we weave.
The Monster Hunter Series is particularly great at this. So, if you would, join me, as we explore just one of it's fascinating inhabitants - The Deviljho!

Deviljho 3/ Savage deviljho: I’M EATING DEVILJHO 4!!!
I love how the guild treats instances of deviljho. "Well we need to cull their numbers, otherwise it'll just eat everything, but we cant hunt them TOO much because the dumb shits cannibalize their offspring" it's a delicate balance haha.
Also fun fact, they have indeterminate growth as seen in tri's event quest where you face a massive deviljho that was let to grow to insane proportions. Usually not an issue because they starve themselves after exhausting an environment. So it's a rare occurrence hence why it was a timed event.
I think it nests in arctic regions. In tri there was a secret area that was only accessible when a deviljho was limping and would crash through a wall. It makes sense because of its high metabolism and heat generated.
Awesome video! I love nerding out about monster Hunter.
Putting some thought into, if two Deviljho meet and they do indeed have a non-aggression pheromone, this is likely present because of the caloric cost of two Deviljho duking it out. It's a loss loss for both, as it'd take a lot of energy to succeed, and the reward is an equally drained Deviljho to feast upon, which already burns most of its calories by existing. The pheromone is a fail safe for the entire species.
If this is the new thing you're trying, then I'm on board
Damn, now I feel bad for Jho... never thought he'd be living a painful life ...
Well his hyper-accelerated metabolism means that he would be always growing bigger and hungrier after each meal.
Now i want to hunt them even more

Was not expecting this type of content but as someone with 500 hours on world, I love it and I'm looking forward to more episodes, keep up the great work man!
I gotten up to 700 hours
Update now i'm somewhere at 736 hours (and don't show off you gotten more than 900 hours)
Those are rookie numbers
Amateurs, you all don’t have 3000 hours? Do you even play Monster Hunter
Wth happened to my name those sound like the words of someone with less than 3000 hours on monster hunter
I'm glad someone else appreciates the actual world of monster hunter, great video!
Archie Mottershead Monster Hunter’s setting has a surprisingly large amount of lore given that the games rarely have much plot beyond “rookie hunter kills big monsters to make stuff to eventually kill biggest monster and maybe solve problem cause by Biggest Monster”.
I can't get enough of MH lore and am really excited to see more about the new world
Some additional note: Deviljho usually doesn’t have a long life span
But Savage Jho seems to be quite old compared to average Deviljhos
It could be that, after living so long, and so violently, the Deviljho's hunger completely eclipses it's ability to sate it. The natural end to a Deviljho's life isn't old age, it's an explosive self-destruction that tears everything down with it.
I love how its blood turns black. IMO It’s likely that before Shrade fell, Deviljho were pack hunters preying on Elder Dragons. But then Dragons were uncommon forcing the Deviljhos to be nomadic to sustain themselves. And the Pickle we know today is the result of that behavior. Which would explain why Jhos don’t usually kill on sight other Jhos.
Imagine hunting a group of deviljho.

But it would be nice to see them tear a nergigante apart.
You know i wonder how deviljho's act as parents. My theory is that its similar to Alligator and Crocodiles where once they make their nest the mother will defend it furiously probably for months even to the point of hunger and once the time is right she will leave before going savage.
Your probably right about that!
Actually I read on the wiki that when two deviljhos of opposite gender meet, they mate. The Male will leave immediately as to not hunt its sudden mate. The impregnated female will then lay the egg of her offspring and guard until it hatches. Once hatched it will guard the newborn deviljho but only for a small amount of time before leaving it behind so that it does not eat its offspring. This mating ritual makes it somewhat difficult for deviljhos to fully mature as it must fight and exist for itself while still not fully matured. This then explains why deviljhos while an apex predator are rare to see in most ecosystems.
@@jordanharris4339 hmmm interesting so almost very similar to today's gators abd crocs but not exactly.
Here's my theory two deviljho if different genders would duel it out first if the male defeats the female then he can have her but if he doesn't then she just straight up kills him now how they raise their young is also interesting but I think the male would leave as soon as he impregnated her then the mother will lay they eggs but to keep them safe she wouldn't have to bury them (which would explain why they have poor eyesight) and then once they hatch they juvenile is ready to set off it's new life but is defenseless against larger monsters so it hunts and kills the smaller ones but then as years go by it's fully matured and covered in the scars or its enemies thus creating the deviljho! this is my theory
@@battlebot2410 This.... it sounds more like a diablos thing.
Said it on twitter and will say it again. Would love to see a series like this monster hunter or not.
Fun fact; One of the very few creatures that can prey on the Deviljho is a flying wyvern known as Ukanlos. They do this with such proficiency that Deviljho will instinctually and fearfully avoid them.
This, is why i love the MH Community, this isnt just creative, its rather educational and a vastly different take on so many things other members of the MH community have done. I would adore seeing more of a series like this, and this seriously needs more exposure!

Aside from Jho being my favorite monster, this video was absolutely incredible. It just goes to show how grounded the monsters from this series are.
I need more of this, i don't care about wich monster to analyze just gimme more
That was, by far, the most impressive ecology video on a Monster Hunter monster I have ever watched. Not only did you establish the science behind the ecosystem, but you explained Deviljho perfectly. You, sir, have earned a fan.
I am interested to see how you explain Kushala Daora and it's unique respiratory system. I find it as the most interesting of the Elder Dragons (not my favorite, but the ecology is very interesting).
Okay, if Deviljho benefits from a positive feedback of increased aggression how does it NOT die of a heart attack or stroke?
It’s probably evolved to be resistant, or even immune, to such symptoms.
it doesnt need a heart, its blood pumps itself out of pure fear
The heart IS a muscle, so one can only assume a) An absolutely massive heart b) Lots of tiny hearts.
This is so great! I’ve wanted to do something similar to this for Rathalos for the longest time and I’m so ecstatic to see someone finally gave an in-depth, hypothetical ecology study of a Monster Hunter monster. I especially liked how you were able to derive theories about the nature of some of the creatures characteristics based off of real life phenomenons. Outstanding video man, especially for a monster that doesn’t really have many real life counter parts to compare it to. Hope to see more!
THIS CHANNEL IS JUST ABOUT ALL THE THINGS I LIKE
I'd like to see a video on Nergigante. A beast strong enough that it specifically hunts other Elder Dragon.
Nergi is MonHuns Godzilla. Gotta balance them ecosystems... XD
Krescentwolf Nergigante wouldn’t be the Monster hunters godzilla, He literally eats Elder dragons. I mean yeah, You got to eat, But you already see how he literally scares other elder dragons out of their habitat and make them evasive into habitats they aren’t suppose to be in
It would be cool if nergitante fight others elder dragon just because it want to show who is alpha in the ecosystem.... i dont want nergitante be so mean like eat others elder dragon just to fill it stomach...sorry for bad english i hope all of u understand

I did not know that about the devil Joe's muscles tearing through his body. That's some scary shit, props to this guy for the info
You could say the deviljho is ripped
@@maliquesmith2311 So ripped it hurts.
One little tidbit to contribute: Tyranosaurs' relatively small front arms have been found to be, in all likelihood, not at all "useless" as the popular misconception has been for ages.
Scientists theorize quite soundly that they were used for digging and moving foliage out of the way. Estimates based on measurements of musculature implied by fossil remains place each of a T-Rex's "feeble little stubby arms" at being able to curl around 400lbs each - plenty sufficient for ripping trees and shrubbery out of the animal's way and sufficing for all of its excavating needs (digging pits to sleep in, exhuming other animals and/or their stashed kills, all general 'getting into things the rest of its huge body normally can't' needs).
Deviljho being so clever it's far closer to a crow than "some dumb lizard," can surely get great use out of such appendages to score a lot of easy scavenged meals outside of just the fresh hunted-down kills that a sizable majority of predators are limited to. Tyranosaurs may well have owed the extent of their dominance as it was to wielding this additional proficiency.
Meanwhile Rajang gang: ook ook angery monkey r totes stronker cuz Dragonball Z, anime saying emotion > all, and wtf even is logic and biology
Deviljho does have dragon breath that could be used to clear out debris and deviljho's jaw is strong enough to dig through the dirt so if the arms of deviljho were elongated it might lead to more resistance while traveling underground but I understand what you mean.
@@defcdfxddvz9609 Certainly Deviljho does have the raw power to brute force his way through most obstructions, but the key point is how easy the arms make getting munchies on the side - the beast doesn't have to work nearly as hard and burn nearly as much energy for them. From a calorie intake perspective, they're a huge quality-of-life boon pushing the equation just that much more in the animal's favor, if it can just pick up exertion-free snacks along its way while seeking out bigger meals.
This is just an educated guess but I figure Tyranosaurs' forelimbs were really all they ever needed to get the job done; there was some size variation between different species, but the overall trend appears to point to that they found the sweet spot between effectiveness and efficiency for them.
@@you1027 maybe deviljho's short arms are more based on his aggression that in his multiple fights the limbs are more likely to be taken off so the body started to put less effort into something that is only there for a few days
I like this change of pace. To is vastly difrent from the other content on the channel jet it does not feel out of place.
I just pictured a colony of ants breaking down a Deviljho carcass and turning into savage ants. Brr.
That’s more terrifying tbh
I believe dragon energy to be some sort of mix between white and red phosphorus. This would cause incredibly painful burns to anyone who came in contact with it and would would explain the why deviljhos breath attack causes so much damage.
Deviljho also has powerful enzymes in its saliva, so while drooling heavily (usually when exhausted) the monster’s bite becomes venomous.
Isnt it more acidic than venomous ? which is why you lose defense, cause its tearing through your armor
Its more acid than anything else. It breaks down even metals so that the Deviljho can eat it. That's right... If enough saliva is secreted, ol' Jhojho can eat your armor.
I freaking love this, a nature documentary of monster hunters monsters...sign me the hell up!
i heard they call deviljho a demon, i think ur gonna need a super gunlance
Ooo Monster Hunter content and good content at that, i like this change of pace
We could always use more Monster Hunter content
Thank you for making a video like this! I really like how you included a lot of bio concepts.
I always had a theory that savage deviljho suffered from a mutation that made it constantly in an "engaged" state. It would never live long because of its metabolic demands. But even with a short lifespan, hunters would have to deal with it immediately because of the destruction it can cause.
I would say Deviljo's teeth aren't razor sharp meant for slicing meat. I would say they are mostly meant for piercing/puncturing to grip on to prey with crushing power kind of like Tyrannosaurus or Crocodiles. Although you could argue that its teeth are razor sharp like a great white sharks because they share similarities in constantly replacing and growing teeth so who knows lol. Awesome video man!
Iirc, the book said Deviljho needs its acid saliva to dissolve Apceros shells. So maybe Deviljho doesn't have the best bite force.
I assume his teeth are more for making giant ripping wounds like a shark
This is a surprise, a great one. I'm always up for anything that involves Monster Hunter.
