100% want to see the standard online version Avoda irons tested. One of the very few companies that offer LA Golf and Axiom shafts as options. Also, wondering if you could compare these irons to something more mainstream. Are they similar to a T150 or T100? Great content, thanks!
@marcopugliese5946 They're a cavity back iron that there are zero comparisons of, no workability metrics, no ideas of what to compare it too so why not cover the whole spectrum of Cavity Back irons too it?
Back when I first retired, I was all about traveling and splurging on things like this. But as inflation hit harder, I had to cut back. Even with some adjustments, those early withdrawals are tough to recover from. Now, I’m more focused on stretching my savings, and being more mindful about money even down to my gear upgrades, definitely a challenge I didn’t fully see coming
I’m nearing retirement myself, and I had similar concerns. I started investing later than most, and just relying on ETF compounding wasn’t cutting it for me. After working with a financial advisor, I managed to restructure my investments and am now on track to retire with around $6 million. If I hadn’t sought advice, I doubt I’d be as confident in my plan right now
I usually steer clear of recommending specific people because financial needs are so personal. But I can say that working with Emily Ava Milligan has made a world of difference for me. I noticed her strategies are tailored to fit personal goals and make sense for different needs. It might be worth exploring to see if her approach resonates with you.
I have a set of old "Controller Irons." Same concept. Roll & bulge technology. Everyone called them a gimmick, except my golf buddies that used to pay me three times a week.
Really interesting video. A few years back, when I was getting back into golf, I got a set of single length irons to help me get going on the course. What I found was that the wedges just felt SUPER long and I didn't have enough club speed to get any gapping on the low-loft end of the set. I ended up switching in some standard wedges and cut down some hybrids to get decent gapping. I ended up with a decent bag, but I think I defeated the whole concept of single length. Avoda seems to have thought about that with it's combo set, as the longer clubs are, well, longer. I'd be interested to see how that set tests.
I'd like to have seen you have that iron head with a shaft and grip with the right swingweight for you to feel comfortable and hit better. I think they could make a slightly less bulged set of irons for quite a lot of people
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like there is a bit of a difference in body composition between Bryson "Bull Moose" DeChambeau and The Equipment Junkie. Could that explain Bryson's ability to swing the heavy 5 iron? Just speculating here 🙂 I once played a round with a baseball player who had played in the College World Series. That dude was so strong. He couldn't hit driver to save his life but he could just smoke a 3 wood. Strength matters. But the cool thing about golf is that there are so many aspects of the game that people of all shapes and sizes can find a way to get it done.
I’m starting to lean into the idea of one length irons, I’ve just been struggling with consistency recently going from 5 iron to PW. Bryson has definitely helped revolutionize the game as far as beginning to normalize one length irons and other crazy gear changes
Problem with the one length irons is it will be specialty as well. Maybe soon there will be a set commercialized, but I recently went to get my grips redone and I asked about making my irons equal length, they said my irons were designed with a head weigh at that specific length. I'd be better off getting specifically designed irons at equal lengths.
With the lofts/specs, you have to consider that Bryson has a combination of some of the highest speed and least shaft lean amongst elite players. Recipe for high launch numbers and crazy spin
For us mere mortals, those mods probably don't make that much of a difference. For super humans like Bryson though, that's where the mods begin to manifest their differences.
PLEASE do a video on the retail version! Super interested in the handicap range you think they fit. The company told me they're more forgiving than you would expect from the appearances.
I’ve demo’d my buddies as mine are in the way. Actually super forgiving for the design. I hit them better than my apex pros off center. They also flight really easy.
So his grips are 120g? Would this be any different if his clubs were all same length? I hit x100s 130g x stiff and have high speed and am wondering if the jumbo heavy grips would benefit me the same with non same length irons? Can I get your 2 cents
His 275 gram heads compensate the swing weight. Putting 120 gram grips on a standard set of irons would massively throw of swing weight, you would likely have no clue where your clubhead is during the swing.
What would happen if you swung Bryson's irons faster than him? Would the gear effect change to produce worse results? Mostly asking for if a set of iron bulges were designed for someone at a slower speed but then they learned how to swing faster, would those irons become more detrimental and to what degree?
I think Avoda's regular one-length set is a more accurate labeling system with a 9 iron at 40 deg, 8 iron at 35 deg, 7 iron at 30 deg, 6 iron at 26 deg, 5 iron at 22 deg, and 4 iron at 18 deg Bryson is just being silly when he calls it a "40 deg wedge." It's not, it's just a 9 iron and so on after that but he insists on the numbering system as iron # x 1,000 rpm - 1,000. Again, it is mostly just a weird numbering system he uses for his clubs and not actually juicing his irons
That small clip of him showing his crank driver near the start of the vid was his own what’s in his bag . He didn’t show one avoda club. Lots of ping , LA golf putter his crank driver but no avoda . So I’m confused.
@@kodutta7 Hey thanks for the update. I’ve been looking into those clubs because a review I saw . When I went to the site it had available “ Bryson” one length. And at that stage I thought cobra only had them . I am really wanting to try the whole one length idea . The Avodas look top notch. With lots of different options to choose over the cobra sets . Like plus or minus a bit of length, lie and loft adjustments as well as choices of shaft and grips .
Manufacturers were doing a lot of marketing years ago, but today it is off the chain. Oh but technology, ok yeah, but mostly the balls. Bottom line, you can’t go into a pro shop and buy a game. That is the illusion that manufacturers present to the public constantly. I don’t buy the hype. Your money is better spent practicing. Home technology is a big advancement because you can visually pick your swing apart. Beyond all of that, spend a boatload of time on and around a putting green because that is better than 60% of your game. Oh yeah, you don’t need a $1000 putter either.
Early in the video, you said you'd provide a code to obtain a "bit of discount" on the purchase of the retail Avoda irons. You didn't provide the code!
I don’t understand when people say Bryson cannot play a PW at 45 because he would get too much spin and the ball would get too high. Like he plays his PW at 40 BUT he still has a 45 degree club?? Does his 45 still have too much spin and go too high? He is just a world class high speed and spin player. I absolutely love Bryson and try to model my swing after him. I also watch all his UA-cam videos. I feel like a better explanation would be that he front loads the lower lofted clubs in his bag to give less variance in distance while playing longer courses on the tour. Can anyone try to explain this or agree with my thoughts?
Really it just boils down to "he likes it better that way". He expects a specific spin number which will produce a specific ball flight which he wants to see when he's hitting a specific club number. It's just personal preference, really.
The number on the club is really irrelevant. The important thing is to get launch and spin in the right window. Watch Matt Blois' (Liberty Golf) with Drew Cooper where they demonstrate what happens when you have that much speed with traditionally lofted irons. The launch and spin get out of control quickly making it impossible to control height, spin, carry distance.
@@jamesprestontx But that still doesn't change the fact that they will still have clubs with more than 40° of loft. They just very rarely hit full shots with those clubs. Kyle Berkshire has pretty standard lofts for player's distance irons and is swinging it quicker than Bryson or Drew. In the end it only boils down to preference, in the end you will still have to have high lofted clubs.
@@edge21str I think you are both right about it being just a #° of loft but it also being about center of gravity (CoG) of the club face. I swing fast at ~100 mph for a traditional 34° 7 iron, but it goes sky high sometimes at 150+ ft in the air with horrible ball flight destroyed by any wind. I either have to bend all my current club strong to decrease height, or try something like the Avodas. I'm going to buy a set of one-length Avodas later this year and give it a shot because I am dying at the moment. I truly have no idea how Kyle Berkshire does it but I know he has said he has to swing weird to avoid hitting irons to high. I'm just not that skilled
Nonsense. His gw is the same length as a pw so just labeling it somethitng different doesnt change what the ball is doing. So saying a pw at 45 "spins to much" but then labeling it a gw and saying now it spins fine when the ball is literally flying the exact same way is just ludicrous.
Yeah, he's just being a goob on that for some reason. He doesn't get enough credit for innovation on one-length irons, especially when it come to peak height but his 5 iron should absolutely be labeled a 4 iron to any reasonable person lol
There's no rule that says a 4-iron has to have a certain loft. The number on the bottom of the club is mostly just for organization. If you wanted to have seven irons in your bag with traditional lofts but all stamped with a "4" so they're all 4-irons, you could do that. It would just be stupid, cause it would be a pain in the ass. "I have 170 yards to go, which of my seven 4-irons is my 170 yard 4-iron?"
i dont know who's idea it was to continuously read a crap ton of numbers but you jus ruined your own video. put it on the screen or change camera angle like damn bro u failed
Shout out to Brysons caddie having to lug the equivalent of 3 sets of clubs around every week. What a beast.
Love the vid. 1 recommendation: putting up the numbers you call out loud with labels after you hit. Keep it up!

That's what I'm working on doing is testing the retail availability Avoda irons vs like the T150, Callaway ai smoke, some mizunos, and such.

instead of talking about gram weight of the heads... talk about swing weight. D4? D6?
the amount of times he said bulge was crazy
Irons back in the day were bulged. Go look at old irons. This was because balls spun more.
