Great video! There's a lot more to falling with a weapon and getting back up. So many civilians manage to impale themselves accidentally with pointy objects, when they fall.
In Yanagi Hara Ryu (offshoot of Shidare Yanagi Ryu) we practiced ukemi by turning the katana perpendicular to our bodies. Picture rolling over the sword.
Excellent video! As a stick/staff fighter, the use of the hilt (kashira) as a fulcrum was a revelation to me. I could see how using the butt end of the staff as a fulcrum could surprise my opponent as I roll differently than expected. Many thanks for Seki-sensei's insights and tips.
I never thought I could learn so much from three minutes. Thank you. This was great. The roll is great. The stance down is great. Coming up is also great. But the best part was still when sensei showed what happens if you just try to roll far away from opponent without thinking much. My appreciation for this video is hard to put into words.
Another great Video on Asayamaichiden-Ryu. A heartfull thank you for sharing..Dear Seki Sensei. I will join this online lessons by now❤😊 and my respectfull greetings to all Asayamaichiden-Ryu Sensei and Members.
Respectfully, your channel is one of the main reasons that I’m more motivated to pursue a good job and profession in life, so I can learn a martial art in classes. I’ve been massively unmotivated for the last three years, but each day that passes, I want to learn one of these martial arts moreso. I’m already working on procuring the funds for an iaito, and soon enough, a high end sword custom made for me. Much appreciation your way. A little motivation goes a long way.
I just noticed this but here 2:13 you can see the Buckler and probably even the (rapier?) from previous episodes Glad to see Seki Sensei welcome them into his Dojo! Truly a teacher who loves to learn!!
Thank you a lot for this insight, I was one of the people asking for it, very informative thank you again =) I'd have a follow up question though, do you have any specialized techniques on how to fall when you have your sword already drawn?
These videos are always so interesting, I really enjoy the videos of Seki Sensei using European swords. I would love to see Seki Sensei react to the responses to the video from other youtubers.
Great stuff. Most grappling arts do not teach how to fall with something in your hands or on your waist, so I always wondered how it worked. What do you do for an ukemi if your sword has already been drawn?
I found a reaction to your "How Would a Samurai Master Fight with a Longsword?" Video by Skallagrim He shows some uses of using the Longsword himself. Would be very cool if you and Seki Sensei could react to it 😄
Thank you for sharing so much. Much apriciated. May I ask if you think there can be a benefit in striking from just under the surface of water to make it harder for opponent to judge distance and position of the striking blade? Assume the ground below water is very stable and flat and assume the water does not move much, neither at surface or below. Choose depth freely. Both you and your oppents is in the same water. Assume the oppent is also skilled in fighting with the same kind of blade.
i figured that the blade need to be close under the surface, just under it, so the hindering of the water is kept to a minimum. Also some movements appears worse and some better while having the blade under water at the start of the strike (probably stabbing?). It will probably be very hard for opponent to not look down in the water.
I have been asked "why water?". I think it is possible that you cross water, like a smaller river, at the point where it is safest to cross. Meaning best ground and smallest force of the water. While crossing water you tend to be easily seen and can be attacked. With many river crossings, it seems feasible to understand fighting while standing in water. Also, perhaps less likely, if you go ashore on a beach from a small boat, a fight may start while in the water and before reaching land. If the opponent is unskilled, you probably can be very straightforward and simple, but meeting a trained and experience fighter, perhaps a special stance may help you? Judging and keeping the right distance is important is it not and it seems harder to judge if the blade is hidden at first.
I am curious even though this has nothing to do with the video. What length of wakizashi should I get? I've heard it depends on the school so I don't know what to get.
Anybody else find the way their posture remains almost completely normal even when they’re flat on the ground to be pretty funny? It’s like they got hit by the Paralyze spell in Skyrim.

The opening is delightful guys
Great video!

So many civilians manage to impale themselves accidentally with pointy objects, when they fall.
Even in Pro Wrestling the first thing you learn is how to "bump" safely fall in the ring.
@@Mindstangle I mean, he's right. Lol
@@Mindstangle i actually trained in Pro Wrestling, not fun.

受け身の動画は初めてで、とても勉強になりました、ありがとうございました。
Wow, that was a wonderful demonstration! Extremely useful, as I imagine getting knocked to the ground would be common on the battlefield.
Wearing an armor would change the situation a lot though not even to mention the muddy ground that was common on battlefields.

心の底から感謝しております。
thank you for the information!!
I really like to see Sensei's reaction to some of Shugon's scenes. 😊
I wondered about what happens when the battle gets on the ground, and this answered it quite nicely. Thanks!
I'm always thankful for these lessons. Much respect and gratitude, Seki-Sensei. Thank you Shogo for the translation as well.

You guys have come so far, and your videos are becoming so professional! I'm super impressed!
Thank you for your videos.
thank you very much, THIS is really a useful lesson, would be pleased to learn more about safety, rolls and falls
Thank you.
Bravo Just wonderful! This is very useful.
An excellent and straightforward method for moving! ❤

Even the longsword’s there!! Sugoi!
I always thought Ukemi was just practice with not only with aikido and judo but with Ninjustsu. You learn something new everyday. Great pose❤
I never thought about rolling with a katana. But it makes sense. I will try that in the dojo next time.

Interesting parallels with grappling, passing the legs is like passing the guard in BJJ
I was wondering if you were also making a video about the winding?
We’ve already filmed it! Will be editing it soon!
It’s interesting that many of original forms from Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu were derived from the sword.
Is there a reason you would not attack your fallen opponent's legs and feet; they appear very vulnerable.
Thank you for sharing so much. Much apriciated.

You should try a greek sword and shield
Rolling too far away might difficult getting into attack position at the floor.
In a video, can you talk about iaijutsu? please.
Hi Shogo, great video. But, what happens if the other guy aims for the legs of the one who is in the floor?
Hi, I will travel soon to Japan. In what city are you located ? I will love to visit you!
