The wife and I just bought a muse 3d laser a couple months ago. Crazy that a lot of blacksmith/ bladesmiths I've seen get 1 this year. Fun to play with for sure. Looking forward to see the leather stuff
I anticipated it would be useful for leather sheaths, but didn't think it would handle steel. Very surprised to see how effective it was on 1095, and that suggests to me that this may be an excellent tool for touchmarks, especially ones with images. Thanks!
You’ve sent me down a rabbit hole with this lol It seems they have an air assist option that may make it easier to cleanly cut materials. So you could probably cut out sheaths and engrave them at the same time. I am getting this laser pretty damn soon now.
You are 100% correct. They sent me the air assist, I just jave to keep the videos close to 10 minutes long. So much more to show with this! You hit the nail on the head with the sheath ideas
Good question I don't have enough time on it to be conclusive yet. I think either of the 20 watt modules would work but I haven't tried the long focal length Laser on steel yet
@@Aleeknives I'd love to see another video of engraving a makers mark on hardened steel once you've had time to play with it more. I've been looking for a laser to mark my knives that won't break the bank, most I've seen a 6k+ and that's just too much for a hobbyist like myself
I think for how cheap it is, defiantly works well, for something a bit more permanent in the workshop you could get a sheet of something like FR4 pcb material or aluminium to mount it down to so it doesn't wiggle as much. Then just drape a piece of welding curtain over it, after 15 years in a past life working with high powered telco lasers they're not something to take chances with and fairly much the same as arc welders for eye damage. With your leather working skills I can see this being a huge help, plus just for engraving a signature onto a knife its a heck of a lot better than stamps, etching or messing around with other methods
Wow! 239 is not a bad price point! It's been awhile but I think I paid somewhere around 1800 for my 3D printer. I do wonder about locking in a knife for very fine work. Definitely something to look into though. Thanks for the unbox vid!
When you are trying to engrave metal and avoid refections and loose of power, you should try masking the area with a black marker. Thanks for the video.
Um the fact that this will engrave 1095 is awesome!! Would love to see if it would engrave hardened steel, and how far (deep) you could go🤘love your channel man, have a merry Xmas!
I had another viewer bring up a really good idea. He said to paint the surface with nail polish and use the engraver to engrave through the nail polish and then use an etching machine to etch the Maker's Mark. The possibilities are endless
@@Aleeknives oh that’s a cool idea… I’d getting one tomorrow if I knew it could engrave hardened steel deep enough to then use a steel blackener to create contrast
Awesome. I just got one last week too. Did you do dither at 80% 100mm for the logo on 1095? I tried cutting g10 and it caught on fire and smelled like you shouldn’t breath is🤣.
Now that a little time has passed, can we get an update on using it for hardened steel? Really want to pull the trigger on one but I want to see someone do that first. I know it will mark hardened steel but will it engrave it?
A bit bougee for your channels aesthetic isn't it? A D&G branded kiln next maybe, lol... It did do a reasonably precise job. Thanks for showing it to us.
Друг привет. Подскажи настройки по металлу. У меня такой-же аппарат. Я пробовал на ножницах - 100 мм/мин 95% на 20 прогонов (20 минут) результат видно но очень тонкий слой Перед процессом делал спичкой нагар.
I don't think there's any right or wrong with lasers. If it looks good then you're doing it right. Safety first. Yes the fumes can be toxic. You might want to put a fan in there or something. It all depends on what you're burning. Even chromium sometimes found in steel is probably not too healthful to breathe it. Or just wear a mask. Pretty much same rules as when working with epoxy. You have to be careful with your eyes. Do Wear your glasses. It's always possible you can get a laser reflection especially off metal. If you're running the laser unattended, make sure there's nothing flammable anywhere near it. If you want to run the pattern multiple times on the same piece of material, then consider locking the material down using a clamp. It looks like you're really having a lot of fun. I enjoy watching the videos.
@@jackspradt1562 Who said hide under the bed? If you don't believe in safety there's some neat games you can play. I can think of one involving paper clips and wall outlets.

You won't be disappointed
I'm just as excited as you to see what you can do
Very cool. I have been lasering through mail polish then electroetching.
This is genius, I would love to see how this works if you have anything on social media
The fact that it will cut the outline of leather sheath templates is worth the price alone.
Finally ordered one and will have it in by Monday! I'm excited to see what I can do with it.
I bet you will love it!
Man oh man.....leather sheath options abound .... Really want one.
You just wait dude!

Also watch tyrell knifeworks review on the Xtool laser. I think this one is the winner hands down but that is my opinion
