    Chris which version of Lightburn do you use with this? I think I'm going to get one to engrave logos on stuff I make with my Shapeoko. Making a thin base for it like you had I could just set it on top of something like a cutting board and cut a hole in the base for the laser to shoot through. Thanks again for coming on the show too, it was good to meet you.

      Thanks it was really nice talking with you guys. I think the only options are one for grbl and one for something else. You want the one for grbl. That’s a good idea with the hole. That’s sort of how I did my enclosure.

    When I engrave wood such as Acacia. The engraving will look good and dark. But if I clean the surface, it will remove all the dark from the engraving and it will be almost the same color as the original wood. Is this normal? How can I fix this or do I just clear over the dark burnt area. I was wanting to engrave it as a usable cutting board but the engraving is barely noticeable after cleaning it. It is engraved deep but not dark. I hope you can understand my rambling. Thanks!

      @ChrisPowellFSD  2 роки тому

      Hmm maybe it’s the oil in the wood. You could try the borax mix some people do. I forget what the mixture is, but it gives a really nice, black finish.

    This machine looks nice, thanks for a great review. Question: I want to engrave a couple dozen anodized aluminum pieces. smaller than a business card. Can you advise how long it would take with the small 1.6 watt module that I believe comes with this model? Thanks!

      Bought a 10 watt, takes less than 2 minutes. Its somewhat versatile but for this project (0 sales) the cheaper one would have beena better choice.

    Thanks for the review. I have the laser with the LU2-2 SF module it comes with. I think I will also get the LU2-4 SF module per your recommendation. Two questions: (1) I noted that in the plywood you were engraving, you used prefinished plywood. Is that a requirement? And (2) Later in the video you showed a waffle cut base on which you were putting your workpiece. Is that advisable, and if so, where do you get it?

    Brand new to laser (I've got the general ideas from CNC routing, 3D printing etc). Having issues with LU2-2 engraving wood slices that show the tree's rings. Where the rings are in the wood it doesn't engrave, leaving me with dotted lines. Any suggestions?

    • @ChrisPowellFSD

      Those rings are probably denser. It might need multiple passes. It would probably just be best to use other wood.

    Hi Chris, as always great videos! I have been wanting to get a small laser to engrave logos and names on projects and cutting boards. Now that you have the Pro and the Aufero. What would you recommend? I doubt that I need to engrave 15" logos for the pro but I surmise the project piece needs to fit comfortably within the engraving area so the laser can focus. If the laser needs to be raised then it may be too far away from the piece?

    • @ChrisPowellFSD
      @ChrisPowellFSD  2 роки тому +2
