Nice Video. I find it so odd why there are not more videos of their products. I have ordered the "Flourish ceiling light" from the uk website. could not see a single picture or video online of it anywhere except on the official website. Getting an electrician in on Friday to hook it up to the ceiling.
Yes, totally agree. Some of their products have a lot of videos but some are just non existent. Never heard of the Flourish ceiling light but just had a look and it does look very cool. We've got this one in a bedroom and it's incredible - amzn.to/2ZiTLdo - although it's not full colour, but incredibly bright.
Thanks for the video. How did you find the brightness at night? Hard to tell from the video. Trying to decide how high I should mount it (under eaves of house (2 storey) or eaves of single storey garage)
I can indeed! It's not super bright. It's definitely not 'security light' bright, but we've got it above our deck and hot tub and it seems to light things up enough for us when we need it. To be perfectly honest and transparent, we're contemplating putting in a security light in addition to this Hue light for better visibility for our cameras just in case someone came into our garden. If you're using it (as we do) mainly for seeing where you're walking late at night it's perfect, but you couldn't read a book with it. Hope this helps?
@@littlesmarthome disappointing that it doesn't sound to be very bright. Seems a wasteful to have to have both this and need to install an additional "security light" for actually lighting up a space.
I'll see about putting something up, but it's definitely not a flood light in the traditional sense. It's bright enough to see things but not as bright as the traditional 'burn your eyes' flood lights. I personally would call it outdoor mood lighting. Having said that, our garden's quite small, it's a new build property so gardens aren't big whatsoever. It's bright enough for us, and doesn't annoy the neighbours as much as the old one!
Yes you do if you want it connected to Hue. If you just want it as an on/off (without dimming or colours) then no you don't have to have a hub, but it'd be cheaper to buy a traditional outdoor light.
I really like the look of these but chose against it and went down the hue fugato route. Unfortunately when the led on the hue lamps and floodlights eventually die, the lights are toast as they don’t have changeable globes. The hue fugato lights on the other hand can take any GU10 globes.
We honestly haven't had to, the battery is already in the unit, just pull a plastic tab out to turn it on for the first time. I'd imagine though it's the single screw on the back to remove the old battery and replace it. Hope this helps!
Apparently there's a lab for it here: labs.meethue.com/formulas/huelabs/temperature-monitor I can't speak from experience as don't have a need to turn it on, but maybe have a go? Would be awesome to know if it works. Thanks!
@@littlesmarthome Yeah must be, the one I have is wide open on the mount box, so it requires silicone sealing to be applied all around the base. It also had the worst mount design I have ever seen. Your version must have been created from the negative feedback of the original mount for sure.
@@HarveyTAS Sounds like it! Mind you, the mount on mine was tapered, so it's narrower on the top than the bottom, I originally put it up so the horizontal line was straight, not even thinking about whether it was a perfect square. Needless to say I was a little annoyed when I realised.
@@GBMark90 It probably could, but you'd have to drill a new hole in the mount. Let me know how you get on with it, but obviously be careful you don't have any extra holes for rain/water to get in.
Not a standard dimmer. Hue lights need to have full AC power when they're on. But you can use a Hue dimmer, or even a remote to cycle through color options as well as dim.
Good question. Honestly I'm not sure. We've got a hub so didn't even explore it. I'm fairly sure that the lights without a hub are a new thing, so you probably need a hub but maybe someone else knows a better answer? Sorry I couldn't be more help though 😔
Yes, you do need a bridge. Quite often you'll find deals on them either in a store or online though. Most of the time they are cheaper in a bundle with a couple of bulbs.
@@littlesmarthome Do I still need the bridge if I have no intention of getting any more Hue lights ? I only want the colour floodlight thats it !! I want a floodlight that changes colour and is dimmable.
Wish the floodlight was motorized controllable through the app, so we don't need to grab our ladder in our garage every time we want to change the light angles.
Sorry, yes, I agree. When we put it up it was a 30 minute break in about 3 weeks of rain and our garden was a complete mess as we were waiting for our turf to arrive. We rushed to install it. Definitely should've had a night view.
You probably know this already, but I'm in the UK and our power is 240v, whereas the US is 120v. Mine isn't compatible with US voltage. However, there's a version of this light in the US which Philips say is 100-120v. Here's the link to the US one on the Hue site: www2.meethue.com/en-us/p/hue-white-and-color-ambiance-discover-outdoor-floodlight/1743530V7 Hope this helps you out!
It's rather strange. The box is about 1/2 inch narrower than the bottom, so if you line the box up with a vertical 90 degree, it'll be slightly off. You're right though, mine was off a bit, I since loosened my box and straightened it up.
In a world where we care more about looks than what it actually does. If you review a spotlight, show us ...the spotlight working. Other than that you where looking good
Might have already mentioned this to other comments, but yes, you're right, would be nice at night, but it wasn't possible. I wouldn't class this as a spotlight either. It's more of a 'soft light'. Definitely not bright enough to be called a spot light, or even a floodlight. Gives enough light to see stuff, that's about it.
Beware: My lamp is using an excessively high Standby Power of 7W when the lamp is off or brightness is at 0%. That's at today's rates more than 30 EUR per year to have no light!
This is a fairly decent amount of stand-by power. Might hook up a monitor to check it. I know it's rated at 15w and has an efficiency score of 'G', but if it is 7w on standby, that's 168w a day, 61,320w a year (or 61.32kw). That's £20.87 a year in the UK right now.
@@bigseano8 It absolutely can be. Although, unless you're comfortable with electrical and understand how things work, I'd suggest getting an electrician to do it.

Would have been great to see how bright it is at night 👍🏻
Everyone comes here to see what the light is like at night….. it’s like he’s teasing us all… tragic. Thumbs down
Yup, this feller is not the brightest.
Is the only reason I came here, skipped through all the intro and unboxing to see a bulb change colour during the day 😂
Exactly
Thanks so much for showing this during the day.... that's exactly what I'm looking for in a light review.
Haha
😂😂😂😂
It's exactly what I want in an external light.
Ok but how we never got to see it at night or see the sensor work
Loved it, keep them coming!
Think I’m doing the same for my backyard... looks good.
The sensor looks smaller than I thought it would. But that’s good and will help when I install it!
It's quite a bit bigger than the indoor sensor, but not too big.
Thanks for your tutorial! Its been helpful for my electrician!! 🌞
Glad it was helpful!

Is the light motion adjustable side to side? Or is it fixed on one position?
It's fully adjustable, side to side and up and down. Hope this helps!
"get on with it", he says but he keep droning on!!! Cut to the chase Pam!
Do i really need a hue bridge to set it up? Especially the small one

Curios if this can be converted to work via PoE connected to a switch?
I've not opened it up, but that would be pretty cool. I imagine a fair amount of hacking around would be needed, which would worry me a bit
Hi, is just a security light or does it have an ‘always on’ setting?
By default it's just a normal light. You turn it on or off. For the security aspect you'd need the outdoor motion sensor.

On the back of the sensor there's a plate that screws onto your wall. The screw just holds the sensor against the plate.
I love my hue bulbs but I always thought the packaging is cheap.
I agree entirely, except for the newer (and more expensive) actual light panels or whole units. Those seem to be very nicely packaged
Would it work if it was linked to a dimmer switch indoors?
