Haha you announced this video on Pokemon red and blue first release date. (Green, instead of Blue in Japan.) They just announced two new Pokemon games this morning.
If you didn’t know already, ditto is another way of saying me too. When I learned the Japanese names of the legendary birds, I thought, “seriously?” But I suppose English was always the cool language in Japan.
ya know japanese and english charmander name isn’t actually that different. since “char” means to burn and “mander” is short for salamander (or lizard)- its just a “fancier” way of saying fire lizard lol
Bossgodora and Sazandora (Aggron and Hydreigon) are some of my favorite Japanese names. Aggron is also my favorite pokemon, so that's a bit of coincidence there. Also, because I am an incredibly mature person, Boober (Magmar) makes me giggle tremendously.
Gaming with Prince from what i got, i think he meant that the name Freezer was dumb bc when he learned of the English name, Articuno, it made Freezer sound uncreative.
I'm actually currently watching the Pkmn Sun & Moon anime, and I thought Litten's jp name "Nyabby" was very cute! I look foward to more videos like this 😊
I am learning so much from you! I appreciate with all that you teach in your videos! Also! *bows head to you when you greet your viewers at the beginning of the video*
The reason why it's called Pokemon over here is because at the time, there was another property called "Monster In My Pocket." In order to avoid any copyright issues, it was changed.
Knowing the story behind the names for Abra and Kadabra, is Alakazam's Japanese name also in reference to a psychic/prophet or is it in reference to something else entirely?
Alakazam's japanese name is Foodin (フーディン), which is a rough translation of Houdini, inspired by Harry Houdini, also if you are not aware, Uri Geller is known for his act of bending spoons, which is why kadraba and alakazam have spoons, and Uri Geller sued Game Freak because of kadabra.
Here a fun fact: Alakazam's name in German was "Simsala", which is only the first part of the magic word "Simsalabim". Just like Abrakadabra being split for the first two, there would be a final form called "Bim" to finish off the evolutionary line. If that were true then it would have 4 stages then.
Such a fun video! Thank you for sharing! :) I love a lot of the Japanese pokemon names though I think the English names are better than the ones that have straight forward names like Crab, Ghost, and Pigeon. It makes them feel more like monsters.
Hey by any chance have you ever react to meatcanyon? if you haven’t you should start with jawbreaker. (These video don’t have anything really to do with Japan, these are just video that are going viral in America.)
fun fact: Uri Geller found out about a pokemon named after him, and apparently was so offended he sued Nintendo over it in California, the lawsuit was thrown out in 2003, and apparently he is all this time later apologetic that he did that...AKA: he gave himself some seriously bad PR attacking Pokemon.
