Anyone else like combining Craver and Vodyanoi traits together? Specifically Arks and Depletion. Nothing's better than depleting planet and then flying away constantly, forced to the life of a space nomad, because you ruin all the lands you touch, and must keep moving. Always moving. To stop is to die, and war is always necessary, especially when your neighbors have good, undepleted lands to reap.

Therefore, endless growth is itself illogical. You need look no further than what is happening to our own planet for evidence of this. The true solution to this is using higher reasoning to maintain a sustainable existence. Higher reasoning is something the Cravers lack a real capacity for...that is why they are a plague of a race and why all the others try to wipe them out with extreme prejudice.
Bought Endless space 2 without really reading/watching a lot about it because I liked endless space 1. Setting up first game, who do i play as? hmm, the Vodyani look interesting. 20 minutes later I'm leeching life essence across the north-eastern spiral arm, filled with holy purpose and the sounds of the choir of the unstoppable church of the Virtual Endless. 10/10.

It's absolutely genius design on Amplitude's part since it doesn't feel forced, it feels completely natural to the player.

Yeah, besically, the leaders of both are reversed. For the broken lords, the king is "anti transformation", and seek a way too reverse it, while his political opponnent is a fanatic who claim that they are supperior to the others race, and that it's normal to prey on them. For the Vodyani, the fanatical guy is the leader (though his oponnent don't seems any better).
Now that this has been mentioned I’m pretty convinced the Vodyani are the Broken Lords, but after spending years (centuries?) like they did they finally embraced it instead of trying to fix it.

This game has one of the best game soundtrack ever. Period. This one is especially epic and transcending, making it the perfect theme for the Vodyani. Truely brilliant.

Proceeded to invade and steal their systems from under their arkships, leaving them to remain in the game but with no systems or fleets to control. 10/10 would send to purgatory again.
The AI has absolutely no clue how to play the Vodyani, that kind of playstyle requires a player's ability and judgment to function at all. The AI doesn't understand that the Vodyani are slow to develop but once they do, they're nigh unstoppable as they sweep across the galaxy in a crusade, conquering in the Virtuals' name.
GmodPlusWoW they were pretty much consumed by the Virtual Endless, while keeping some of their initial personification. It is like being possesed by a demon or something.

I love the visual and sound aesthetics of the Vodyani, but their actual lore is so hard to get behind. The writing does nothing to show what is it so powerful in that belief to ignite the zealotry and righteousness in the Vodyani.
Well, when life is turned into essence, and then again turned into a Vodyani, it doesn't really have a "personality" anymore. It's like blendering a bunch of brains and making a soup brain. The Cloth that keeps their form probably carries a large amount of influence over the Vodyani's actual though process and desicion making from that point. The pieces of backstory for the Vodyani heroes is what I base most of this on. The Vodyani formed after desperation in the start, they survived and it's kind of difficult to turn back afterwards.
So ill try playing them again... any who knows maybe ill even do it properly this time. XD I didnt get what this "Essence" was and why i could not build colony ships...
Now I'm interested if they convert those not of their species... like, if another group of aliens decides to follow their religion, would they also be converted to machine?

So I'm very confused as to what the Vodyani are exactly. Are they energy beings living inside suits designed to contain them? Are they an uploaded race? What are they?
Their art often depicts a single Cloth "Being" draining essence from hundreds of creatures at a time. I have a feeling their species initial transformation required this equivalent level essence conversion to fill even 1 suit at a time, meaning that the Cloth suits likely contain the collective consciousness and memories of hundreds of their original species forms. An amalgamated Dust/Essence monster whose consciousness is entirely alien to what was inputted, and whose to say that the Cloth Suits didn't still have vestiges of their previous occupants within. This likely (in my mind), explains the origin of the Heretic, probably a remnant concrete endless who was re-awoken by the sudden input of essence into its long since dormant body.
You have to focus on establishing your navy and your arks in the early game. You can make a fairly decent early combat vessel, using the scout ship's blueprint and fitting it up with weapons. Immediately in the first round, you should also edit the Ark blueprint, and fill up all the support modules with passive essence gain. It will replace some science points, but that can be returned on later. Make sure you keep the religious party on the lead of the senate, because of the base law, and other religion laws too. Pass the law for extra dust in exchange of less happiness. It may seem like a bad shot, but given the unqiue pop system, it will pay off more. It is also recommended that you develop a fleet of leechers and seek out a major civilization, and deain on their planets, which you can do freely, because of the religious base law, that allows you hostile incursion even when you are in cold war with the opposing civilization. Focus on colonizing amd food production techs and at least the first system improvement should be Redsang (flat +60 bonus food on the system), if possible. Also make sure to prioritize creating arks, rather than populace in the begining. This way is the best course, but it will still be somewhat difficult. Vodyani are not beginner-friendly at the least, but can get quite nice, if you learn the ropes
I am thinking of writing a story where there are two races of giants: one insectoid and technologically advanced, the other a race of shape shifting psychics. These races are ruled by a powerful empress who is a hybrid of the two races and is really a deity. Out of mercy, she decides that instead of outright destroying the Vodyani and the Cravers, they will be assimilated into either of the two races. That is possible because the two races have technology and magic to transfer souls into new bodies.
The Heretic is Isyander, founder of the Academy (place that all the heroes in-game come from). He wants to bring back the Lost, beings that the Endless met - and killed - using their remains to make Dust. In order to do this, all of the Dust in the galaxy must be collected for them to revive themselves - including the Dust that the Virtual and Vodyani are made of.
Repentance and atonement are his goal. Though the unfallen ask a interesting question of how much of the lost are lost given what they are/the heart is.

A little bit of both actually. They uploaded themselves into the dust, but it needs power to function so they drain said power from other lifeforms.

I like vodyani but it's too hard...
You have to focus on establishing your navy and your arks in the early game. You can make a fairly decent early combat vessel, using the scout ship's blueprint and fitting it up with weapons. Immediately in the first round, you should also edit the Ark blueprint, and fill up all the support modules with passive essence gain. It will replace some science points, but that can be returned on later. Make sure you keep the religious party on the lead of the senate, because of the base law, and other religion laws too. Pass the law for extra dust in exchange of less happiness. It may seem like a bad shot, but given the unqiue pop system, it will pay off more. It is also recommended that you develop a fleet of leechers and seek out a major civilization, and deain on their planets, which you can do freely, because of the religious base law, that allows you hostile incursion even when you are in cold war with the opposing civilization. Focus on colonizing amd food production techs and at least the first system improvement should be Redsang (flat +60 bonus food on the system), if possible. Also make sure to prioritize creating arks, rather than populace in the begining.
This way is the best course, but it will still be somewhat difficult. Vodyani are not beginner-friendly at the least, but can get quite nice, if you learn the ropes

I am thinking of writing a story where there are two races of giants: one insectoid and technologically advanced, the other a race of shape shifting psychics. These races are ruled by a powerful empress who is a hybrid of the two races and is really a deity. Out of mercy, she decides that instead of outright destroying the Vodyani and the Cravers, they will be assimilated into either of the two races. That is possible because the two races have technology and magic to transfer souls into new bodies.

The Heretic is Isyander, founder of the Academy (place that all the heroes in-game come from). He wants to bring back the Lost, beings that the Endless met - and killed - using their remains to make Dust. In order to do this, all of the Dust in the galaxy must be collected for them to revive themselves - including the Dust that the Virtual and Vodyani are made of.
Repentance and atonement are his goal. Though the unfallen ask a interesting question of how much of the lost are lost given what they are/the heart is.
